What do we think? Has a lot of potential IMO, and the devs seem pretty cool. Pixelshit needed a good competitor for ages and it seems like we finally have it.

I've been looking at making a pokemon minecraft server with minimal additional mods for the past few weeks, this is good to see. It also has a Fabric version which lets me see how the other half lives.
Pixelmon is jarring as hell with the smooth models against the Minecraft aesthetic.
Pokecube is basically unmaintained

The technic pack is a good jumping off point since it's just Cobblemon with a bunch of vanilla tweaks (and bizarrely two versions of the fabric API). I just need to toss in some decoration mods, Farmer's Delight and its addons and maybe Create and another tech mod and I'm set.

I've played a good number of tech focused mod packs (Skyblocks, ATMs, etc) but I was itching for a good adventure focused pack. RLCraft seems a bit too much (way too many enemies / mods / grinding / chaos), but RAD2 seems more reasonable? It's hard to tell as I've never really gotten into these kinds of packs. Am I right or am I setting myself up for failure? Is there another pack I should consider?
>>
I miss how people used to make videos of them just having fun with actually at least decent modpacks instead instead of how most now seem to play ones that appeal to children. I want actually good content, not Poppy Playtime vs Friday Night Funkin Mod 100 days hardcore video #1092!

>>422575198
RLcraft is just a youtuber bait modpack. Really, it is a horrible pack if you actually want to play a pack that isn’t filled with complete bullshit mechanics such as enemy that could one hit kill you that spawns randomly when breaking trees.

>>
>>422577590
I don’t think so. I haven’t tried it out, but i took a look at the modlist and didn’t see any red flag mods, and the makers also made a few other nice modpacks, so I would assume RAD2 doesn’t have that problem. Also RLCraft is an extreme in a way since they even changed configs in mods to make stuff more bullshit like allow Ice and Fire mobs spawn near the world spawnpoint, allowed Dragons to spawn like an average hostile mob, increased lycanites mobs spawnrates drastically, and more. I have seen many cases where stuff like RLCraft was a person’s first modpack, and they assumed modded like this so when they played a normal modpack, they were so afraid of new stuff.

>Or did you actually be reasonable and turned some difficulty stuff down?
of course i fucking did
no temprature, keep inventory, lycanites redux, and i dont die from head/body shots
also a lot of the lycanites shit has been rebalanced so fire and lava arnt mob spewers but animals are much much harder to tame
i had to make an entire silex farm (little blue passive lapis fish that spawn from fishing) to get this bird and raptor
the banshees are still awful because i had a mineshaft right under my base so i just made a sky one
the Roc can be used to carry most creatures around so you can survive just fine up there
most events are ground enemies so they cant really touch me either and dragons fly too low
only mobspawns up here are dijins and pelicans which dont bother me

also picrel spawned out of a portal so lucky me

Is this salvagable? I'm not seeing a way to undo this and I don't have a backup for the server. I see a couple of places I guess I could flatten out but they're so far away from this airship I built. Plus 5 have already lots of space, and quick access to sand and clay. Not many trees in the area and a nice small mountain to build fort overlooking the settlement.

Took a while, but got nichrome coils on my EV blast furnace. However, I can't run it 24/7 because it eats my benzene buffer (although I moved my pyrolyse oven from MV to HV, so that may help).
Next goal is get a fluid drilling rig set up (my original oil pump is finally gone all into polyethylene), and then try to scrape just enough for a few IV circuits and start the space journey.
>>

Actually took a look at this and cobblemon’s descriptions because of this, and yeah, cobblemon’s description makes it sound like it is trying to fit well with usual modded in comparison to other pokemon mods.
>>
>>422604157
Pokecube's got some pretty heavy limitations though. The modded interaction is only because somebody cared enough to make a compat patch for Create, and Thutmose in his infinite wisdom decided to roll his own Baubles instead of just using the Curio API (adding the Curio API gives you a second set of slots... good times). He didn't bother to code in a six pokemon limitation either, so you need yet another mod to force that behavior.

Oh and he currently blames Create for a crash caused by pondering an empty blaze burner with Pokecube installed

I'm considering relocating my base, any input would be appreciated.
First, the current location. I'm going for a walled garden sort of look, the structure in the middle is a prototype for the modules that I'll end up spreading out across the area. This current one is appealing because of the steep hills, which could allow for some dramatic usage of height differences. However, it is otherwise rather cramped, and from what I can tell, create: astral requires a decent amount of space. It is also notably really close to my future train hub.

option 2 is this river with a scenic hill on one side and a small patch of land that forms a bay on the other In my head I'm picturing bridges running across the river to different modules, with my main base on the top of the hill. Maybe have some sort of lighthouse on that rock outcrop that's overlooking the ocean. More flat terrain than 1 while still retaining some height, however it also contains a j*ngle and the strip of land between the river and ocean is still not that big.

The final option is this lake with relatively flat terrain surrounding it. This one has by far the most easily usable terrain, and the lake in the center would be pretty to boot, however it also has the most biome blending of the three, which might look odd since there's gonna be a lot of grass inside my base. It also has a village, which could go either way.

>>422560676
It's kinda crazy how performant C:A is. I dunno what sorcery they pulled, but I can run it comfortably WITH shaders at 16 chunks using a 970 and an only slightly newer AMD chip and still get 100+ fps @1080p. I put on rethinking voxels at one point to mess around, and even with the moderate ray tracing it uses I was still getting ~40fps, which isn't much less than I'd have on a "vanilla" client with just sodium+iris.

>>
>>422616465

>>
>>422538159
No, wish I had the patience and skill for it but I don't. I'd like to play a mod that adds shadowy mirror dimensions that you slip into by performing obtuse and seemingly random rituals (walk past a dark oak tree X number of times to enter a seemingly endless dark forest, break a mob spawner with a certain enchanted pickaxe to shrink down and enter a mob spawner-like dimension, etc). Making it myself would probably destroy the allure of it even if I could.

I've been wondering recently how far you could get in mod development using chatgpt. There's a mod idea I've had floating around in my noggin for years that would be fun to bring to fruition like that.
>>
>>422621138
It's an aspect that I don't think has been explored much. Obviously a big inspiration is the Dimensional Doors mod I mentioned last thread, even Mystcraft to an extent. There's those low effort minecreator tier backrooms mods which are superficially, but it's always predictably "MAKK BAGRUBS PORDLE XDDD" or suffocate in sand. I forget the term for what I'm thinking of, but it's a concept I recall seeing on /x/ ages before the whole backrooms shit started, that certain locations you go or actions you take can teleport you to an alternate universe. It's probably a bitch to code though.

You fucking retard, you are LITERALLY the trannies of modding. All the most popular mods are still on Forge, many locked to Forge, many never coming over. You might get a few ported, you might get a few exclusives, but your library pales in comparison to what the Forge user has. You will never have the most amazing modpacks, you will never have the most legendary mods and versions, you are a fake modloader pretending to be a good one, pretending to be a popular one. All you've done is create a massive inconvenience for normal people, for people who play and enjoy modded minecraft as a hobby. YOU entered upon a community that did not belong to you and did EVERYTHING YOU COULD to make it about YOU and FUCK EVERYTHING UP, like the fucking rotting, diseased, axe-wound having transvestites you are. It will be a long time before this wound heals, much like it will be a long time before your rotting hole ever can close as it tries to heal, but in the end Fabric WILL be forgotten. It doesn't have the numbers, it doesn't have the mods, it can't rewind time, and it will NEVER be a real modloader.

Almost all of the good mods are on forge too.
Only things of note that I've seen are:

These have generally been copied over to Forge, usually under the name of another element.
I wish the devs would work natively on Forge, but for some reason they don't.

I mean a friend of mine dumped the code for Minecraft's inventory system and it spewed out a more refined version of it and made notes as to why it was changed.
You'd definitely need some experience in Java but if you make it output code in parts in a single session I can't say why not.

Speaking of Epic Fight, Dawncraft just came out. No idea how good or bad it is, but I did enjoy Mineshafts and monsters for a bit but stopped after seeing it's not very different to some other mod packs I've played.. Definitely oversold it given that most mod packs I've seen/played show only the best parts and the rest is mediocre. But hey it might be to >>422551728 's taste.
>>
>>422651127
Adding on to this, "a year of modding" my ass. M&M was incredibly unpolished so I expect Dawncraft to be as well, if not worse. Their Mod Packs are great in concept and ideas, but it's clear they barely have a clue on what they're doing and hope the quantity substitutes for the quality. Greedycraft had better performance than their Mod Packs.

Kek, obvious I know.
Also, the more I look into the mod pack the more shady, even the MC Eternal dev dug into the mod and pulled out some shit. Stuff like stealing music in its entirety, datapacks, shaders, might be misusing patreon money (no money really going into development yet), etc.

>>422650819
It was pretty funny, but to be fair it's just the inventory code. Would love to see it do other parts of the game, like mobs.

I was talking about the high difficulty of getting desired API hooks added to Forge (apparently a lot of DragonAPI's ASM is because of this) and the coremodding and NOVA drama, not the average modmaker tech support "16-year-old-brats armed with the java compiler".
Also, he's just too much of an ass, which causes problems.
Sure, maybe the first people to leave are not worth having, but inevitably some good devs will leave due to a bad interaction, or after hearing a story from someone else.
Devs who make quality code aren't obliged to share your stance on how thick of skin should be expected.
Lex also seems dogmatic about not breaking vanilla compatibility, even though we know it's shitcode and mods moving minecraft versions need significant changes anyway.

Still pretty stuttery but neat. You should consider using an extendable piston setup, it can extend pretty far by default eliminating the stop and start of block placement and I think you can change the config to have it extend further. If you're worried about it taking up space underneath, you could probably have another contraption that deploys it and retracts it.

what was so wrong with forge that a bunch of trannies decided to make their own forge with blackjack and hookers anyway?
>>
>>422681926
The QRD is basically that Fabric has better documentation and is technically easier to work with in general, however a big part of this is because Fabric is missing a ton of functionality and basic API that was built into Forge (this is a claim to fame btw, saying they cut out bloat), among a few other things being that slow development and slow updates of Forge to latest_version.jar made some entitled brats mad and also that Forge people are sometimes mean frowny face ):
That is literally, unironically the full story of Fabric, you are now up to speed.
>>
>>422681926
>>422682126
P.S. Their "bloat" removal meant nothing by the way, if you find a mod that is both on Forge and Fabric, you will see the Forge version have no requirements (except possibly the modder's library) whereas the Fabric version will require the "Fabric API," adding back in all the functionality that was gutted to begin with. Basically every mod that isn't some very minute detail mod will require this fucking API, obviously. It's all just a publicity stunt because some thin-skinned newfaggot zoomie retards got mad at Forge because Lex or someone else called them gay or something.

>>
>>422682654
>Retarded tranny in-fighting
I think so. I'm not up to date entirely on the Quilt lore because while I already say "who the fuck even uses Fabric," I can even more literally say "who the fuck is actually using Quilt?" Quilt's way too small to even appear on radar, the fact that people develop for that over Fabric even surprises me. Don't quote me on this, but I think Quilt is some actual tranny shit, troons got mad at Fabric team and split off because of some literal LGBT bs and went to make Quilt to epic btfo Fabric, but I could be 100% wrong on this.
>>
>>422682654
>>422682863

>>422683809
So, I had been throwing around "troon" a lot when in reference to Fabric as I hate Fabric, but I should clarify some things.
Forge team openly supports Troon shit, right? We all know that. Fabric team, however, doesn't, as far as I am aware and have been informed. HOWEVER, these things are not mutually exclusive, as Forge being longstanding mod loader now for many years is used by a wide array of normal human beings, so while Lex is sucking tranny cock, his community doesn't share the sentiment. On the flip side, however, due to Fabric's functionality and ease of access, Fabric is primarily used to be coder-wannabe troons, so Fabric community is full of literal trannies because its just simple enough that they can pretend to be coders and thus get attention and validation through making subpar mods for a subpar modloader.
TL;DR Forge pro-troon but used by anti-troons, Fabric anti-troon but used by pro-troons
Quilt is the result, if I am recalling correctly, of Fabric not being pro-troon enough (or at all, rather), but again don't quote, my memory on Quilt shit is hazy.

My friends are really good builders, but where I fail at making things pretty I make up for it in my ability to play games, so I am good at combat and resource collection and management. Which the latter is definitely handy before an ME system is up, I have shelves I built with stairs and slabs that hold 3 sets of double-wide chests each. I'm a RimWorld gamer...

Forge multiblocks were actually great, I agree with you. Chisels and bits is a joke of an imitation.
I believe that the change was because the mod either needed to be a base part of forge (which they didn't want) or all mods would need lots of compatibility work for it - that is a lot more effort than back in the day, when there were ~4 major mods.

I can do a bit of Immersive Engineering on my own, but Create is new to me and my brain is mush. Don't worry though, despite how much I hate it with every fiber of my being I can do Botania all by myself smile (:
Jokes aside though, do I need individual pumps and pipes to increase water in-take, or is what I am doing in picrel okay? And how do I increase the rpms on the pumps? More heat for the boilers or find some way to make my water wheel not shit? I take it the fact that EVERYTHING is connected on one large cogwheel system probably isn't fucking helping.

You are an actual fucking baboon retard. I was never even arguing to begin with why I think Create is good, but I was arguing that, if anything here is shallow, its you as a human being. People don't need to conform to your spasticated belief system that makes no fucking sense. Create is popular, be it of spectacle or of content, people like it for whatever their reasons may be and your sole fucking reason for hating it is because its popular and you have a personal issue with it, so for some God forsaken reason in your hollow skull this means you need to take to /mmcg/ like the little keyboard warrior you are and start harassing people about it while writing a dissertation on why its a bad mod, but then to further somehow prove your autistic point you enter some tirade that fun is bad because its not your flavor of fun because not everyone has the turbo autism you have. Your entire point from the beginning made no fucking sense because the only way to fucking validate your own point was to invalidate the entire fucking concept of personal enjoyment and then make some weird apples-to-oranges comparison about fucking gambling. Nigger, I am building with wooden cogwheels and pipes that I don't entirely understand and I'm having a good time, I don't need to write a fucking thesis paper on why that fucking sends the proper synapses through my neurons to give me a fucking smile on my face. Counterpoint: Then don't play on those versions
See, this is why people think your gay sperg outs are annoying. They make no fucking sense. New versions, mods for those versions, trannies on those versions... It does not affect you. You are inherently immune by the mere fact you dislike these versions. There is no tranny in your room, holding a gun to your head, telling you to load up 1.19.2 Fabric and play Create. You are not beholden to these versions, so these mods... The mods for the versions you enjoy have long since been completed, most abandoned, your versions are pretty much set in stone, you have very little to worry about, no outside influence can take away your 1.7.10 and 1.12.2 mods, you already have them, you already play with them. You are free to stay there, free to enjoy them. The fact you FIXATE on THINGS YOU DO NOT USE leads me to believe instead you have a deep seated envy and are just pissy mods you personally like haven't been updated to latest versions. That is the only explicable reason for your strange fixation on what OTHER PEOPLE DO in VERSIONS YOU DON'T PLAY with MODS YOU DON'T USE.

1.19 runs better than 1.7 with both at stock or with all relevant performance mods for the respective version. 1.19 mods also adhere more to the artstyle of the game. As much as I fucking loathe that Anon, I do agree with later versions are pretty bad, but unlike him I can actually articulate WHY. (Please notice how I asked him to articulate how these things were problems and all he did was say they were problems again)
Performance is honestly subjective and modern computers run on a form of esoteric mysticism I can't even begin to hope to understand anymore, but the recent versions of Minecraft have instilled an incredibly lazy design philosophy which causes the game to get bloated with garbage that doesn't need to be there, which is a problem because it begins to make a mess of things and can make the UI, the World, and other things rather unsightly. Most updates, even ones touted as major updates and advertised with custom art and banners, usually don't actually add much, such as The Nether Update, which with a title like that would have believe that there was a huge rework and overhaul coming to the Nether, but that wasn't the case. Only a handful of things were added, most are things that general and casual players probably won't even interact with, such as Striders, or the new biomes introducing the big ol' Mushroom trees (which, I will say, I do quite enjoy thoroughly.) It's not all bad, credit where credit is due, Caves and Cliffs WAS a good update, the y-level based biomes was a good implementation, the deeper world and higher build limit, very nice changes, shame it just took them SEVERAL UPDATES to get it all working, and the bugged ore gen didn't help. The later updates are all really pointless and a waste of time and are actually an issue to modding, especially for people who want to keep up to date with the later versions because they're usually so minute and pointless that they happen incredibly often for very small things, which causes mods to need to have to update constantly and try to keep up.

He's not just mad mods he uses haven't updated, he's mad that other mods he wants to use haven't stayed behind on 1.7 so he can use them with the mods that got abandoned/stayed back. It's a totally retarded position to take because most modders are going to support the version that most people are playing on, which isn't 1.7. One can certainly be unhappy about it but it's pointless to seethe and throw insults at them, especially because they work for free, and you could learn java and port the mod yourself if it makes you that assblasted.
>>
>>422699352
The caves are objectively bad. They're too big to be actually usable, too cluttered to be visually appealing, and ruin the entire surface by adding huge ugly fucking holes in the ground. They also necessitated a change in how the entire game generates the world, so the unusable surface terrain can also be blamed on their stupid fucking cave update.

Mojang and microshart are lazy and shit companies no question, and most of the stuff they add is bad and lower quality than what modders do. The problem is, you're always going to have some kind of split that makes people seethe about either missing features from a newer version or a missing mod from an old version. There's no pleasing everyone and no concensus will be reached, so what's the point? Like I said in another post, if people want a feature that bad they can learn Java and implement it for the version they want themselves, or keep crying about it because they're too dumb/lazy. Expecting other people to kowtow to what you want for free is retarded.

this is how they would be as 1 command
>>
>>422703681
sorry the time snippet in the first is wrong but I think you get the idea now. both timings have to be the same (-ss 00:00:03.000 -to 00:00:46.000 in both lines for example)

anon you're being baited
>>
>>422703841
I'm sorry to hassle you but you might have said said this can be combined into a single command? What IS that single command?
It takes me a few tries fiddling with the bitrate to get the webm the right size.
>>422703948
>What purpose does that hatch actually serve?

ffmpeg -i input.mkv -ss 00:00:00.000 -to 00:00:30.000 -c:v libvpx-vp9 -b:v 0.75M -maxrate 1M -bufsize 2M -vf scale=1080:-1 -row-mt 1 -lag-in-frames 25 -quality good -speed 0 -pass 2 -an test.webm

This is the full command, you can paste this into your terminal and it'll run the first line and then the second and produce the final webm. The reason is because of the &&, which tells bash (your terminal shell) to run the command that comes directly after it, but only if the first one succeeds.
If you need to change the bitrate you have to change it in both lines, and likewise with the time. So the bitrate in the above commands is 0.75M, but if you wanted the file to be smaller you could change that value to be 0.5M, or for larger you could do 1M or 2M

New versions are highly underrated around these parts. 1.18-19 have a solid mod scene to them and the performance issues are downright false. I have a decently old machine and can get 100+ fps easily in beefy packs using the fabric performance suite. People here are just autistic and want to play gtnh until the heat death of the universe so naturally they are of the new = bad mindset.

I want to make a tech progression pack, mostly for me and my buddies but if I manage to muster enough motivation to make a proper questbook then I'll upload it on jewforge too. Yes, it will be kinda like those other 9999 expert progression packs, except mine will be non-retarded and fun to play. These are the rules that I will abide
1) Only one instance of any material, ever. None of that four different unstackable versions of copper ingot bullshit. None of that lead has a completely different color in every mod bullshit. Total 100% consistency
2) Gating makes sense. Recipes should be believable, no unrealistic impossible recipes just for the sake of gating or grind
3) No resource printers of any kind. I've noticed the game gets boring and stale when you no longer have any need to get out of your base
4) Mods should be interweaved with each other, rather than complete one mod and move on to the next mod approach
And this last one is where I need your help. What mods do you think would make for a great progression curve? I don't care if it's overused and/or have been done before, I'm no tech mc veteran and my buddies are even bigger newfags than me.
Since you probably have at least a couple mods to suggest, how do you propose I should deal with duplicating functionality (every mod has a furnace and a macerator, for example)? My solution to the macerator problem: the magic block one (like in TE for example) only works with smaller items, the large stuff (such as tree logs) goes into the IE crusher, and finally mekanism's one is a very precise machine capable of salvaging finer dists that others would waste, therefore all machines have a use and neither is obsoleted by the other
Any ideas, suggestions, advice? No I won't just play the four consonants instead so don't bother with that

I've had similar issues where some random inconsequential mod--oddly enough it seems to always be some audio or sound-based mod--would prevent my instances in GDLauncher from starting, but launching the mods + forge manually through the normal MC launcher seems to work fine...? It was cute when End Cities came out, but now its incredibly fucking annoying and how am I supposed to enjoy or let alone try the elaborately crafted parkour in the goddamn towers when I'm just levitated through the entire fucking thing? Like I'd take anything else, Poison me, Wither me, do heavier damage, just please stop fucking levitating me every 5 fucking seconds. Those god damn sparks they shoot chase you to the ends of the fucking Earth, the amount of times I Elytra'd away or ran off or went into some room and like 60 seconds later I see a fucking orb waltz its fucking ass in to tickle me... absolute tourist here so excuse my insolence
most other games i play have mod collections that are intended as a kind of vanilla+ experience, so there's more content but you can barely even tell it's modded
i've been looking at minecraft mods for like an hour now, and all i can find are various intricate technical or magical mods, and a few modpacks based around some hardcore survival experience

is there a modpack that just makes the vanilla game a little richer like that?

>modpack that just makes the vanilla game a little richer
Crucial
Or you can just search "vanilla+" in curseforge. Do you at least know which launcher you should be using?
>>
>>422785117
Actually that's a dildonics reactor explosion
>>
>>422826168
Minecraft is kind of a janky game, its main strength is that it's block-based and you have an entire world to play around with. So most "major" mods tend to go wild with using the base game as an engine and adding tons of new mechanics, making it into a magic adventure game, or a high tech factory building experience, or whatever.
At the same time many of the vanilla mechanics are dogshit, combat especially, so there really isn't much of a focus on just better vanilla without adding tons of new stuff. Some mods do exist to revamp those aspects, e.g. new combat systems, but they generally stray so far away from the vanilla mechanics as to barely count as "vanilla+".

That being said vanilla+ packs definitely exist, it's just that they mods tend to be smaller and a lot less popular than the big overhauls. It's a bit niche, because the people who really do just want vanilla tend to play straight vanilla, whereas those who want to play modded typically enjoy all the vast amounts of different kinds of content that mods add.
>>
>>422830010
Serious question: is dildonics a magic mod or a tech mod?
>>
>>422831078
Is Avaritia?
>>
>>422831491

>>
>>422831078

>>
>>422831078

>>
>>422834945
so does a tinkers' construct crossbow, but that also doesn't require you to kill a hundred dragons and fly out 10k blocks for the world's most tedious boss fight (excepting cheesing it with astral sorcery).
>>
>>422826168
>is there a modpack that just makes the vanilla game a little richer like that?
Eh. Part of the issue with doing that in Minecraft is that the base game is both shallow and pretty shit unless you have a severe form of the 'tism or are a literal child and pretty much every modpack is guaranteed to have something you don't like so it's better to roll your own. Most launchers will allow you to search, download and install individual mods right in the launcher so it's easy enough. As far as making Minecraft into something worth playing is concerned I would recommend the following plus their dependencies. Most of them will say what dependencies they need right on the page but when you launch the game without having some it will crash and yell at you and tell you exactly what you need so that's easy enough anyway.

I would argue that Thermal and Jetpacks is very much beyond vanilla+. Thermal is a full-blown tech mod, it completely breaks both the atmosphere (medieval-ish bizzaro fantasy) and the aesthetics of vanilla. Jetpacks is a bit less egregious, but it's still obviously tech that doesn't fit into vanilla, and renders completely redundant things like the elytra which is a pretty important part of vanilla.

Unironically Create fits the aesthetics of vanilla better. Maybe with something like RedPower if you want modded redstone (though, in my personal opinion, vanilla+ should retain vanilla-like redstone, else there's little point in remaining vanilla).

TiC is also very eh in my opinion. It does "feel" like vanilla in some ways, but it's a HUGE ball of autism that basically really centralises the game around itself in many ways. In vanilla, you try to get diamond tools, then you go to the end, build an enderman XP farm and try to get good enchants, then you've got your gear set and go do whatever it is vanilla players do (building projects, redstone autism, etc.). With TiC, instead, you bumrush the materials to make good tools, the materials to put good modifiers on them, then spend an hour reading the book and alt-tabbing to a spreadsheet to decide on your weapon build, then maybe hunt for some more final materials and then you're set. But, while it's probably superior to vanilla enchants, it still takes way more time than vanilla, while at the same time integrating way less into vanilla - e.g. you don't even need to go to the End.
>>
don't want to mass reply but thanks very much to everyone who replied
>>
>>422847075
It’s actually quite simple but the creator is clearly esl so the manual isn’t that helpful, I think you need specific water or ingredients before it fires up
>>
>>422849606
What's the best "just add more enchants" mod? Apotheosis?
>>
>>422849606
Yeah, Thermal falls a bit outside of vanilla+. I mostly put it in there because it's good as babby's first industrial mod but Create is good as well. Tinkers is more vanilla-adjacent than you're giving it credit for IMO; if you don't have some sort of industrial resource gathering capacity then you can quite happily manage an entire game without even a smeltery and you don't need to break out a spreadsheet to get some fun tools out of it; just pick what's interesting and go. I also like the fact that it mostly makes enchanting optional to get good weapons because frankly I've always found enchanting to be a bit of a slog and prefer hunting down good materials instead.

Jetpacks also falls a bit outside of vanilla but jetpacks are also absolutely fucking rad so eh. I guess my list is a bit biased in terms of the overworld and the nether.
>>
>>422857847
>specific water or ingredients before it fires up
What water? And am I supposed to put all ingredients inside and then ignite it?
>>
>>422849606
How is this
>try to get diamond tools
>try to get good enchants
conceptually different from this
>bumrush the materials to make good tools
>materials to put good modifiers on them
?
Stinker not only greatly expands the good materials part, but also allows you to bypass both the vanilla enchanting AND the need for mob farms, which is just an immense win IMO.
>spend an hour reading the book and alt-tabbing to a spreadsheet to decide on your weapon
First, you don't have to minmax like that, and second, consider the fact that tinkers at least gives you the ability to choose and decide. Vanilla doesn't, netherite is the only superior option, it's a very linear progression.
Oh, plus the smeltery, probably the greatest tool for handling fluids
>>
>>422864150
Because Tinkers has so many options that, like I said, it feels centralising. In a modpack with tons of content, Tinker's is just one more mod. But in vanilla? The amount of stuff to do feels like it'd overshadow half the game.
Vanilla is a game about building and exploration. Or designing hyper-autistic mechanisms and farms using redstone and slimestone. The actual gear-crafting aspect is very very minor. Tinker's reverses that completely, now crafting and customising your tools (and armors, if you go that route) is gonna be a major aspect of your gameplay for a lot longer than in vanilla.
Or in amount of items: in vanilla, you have like five variants of ~six tools or so. Which is similar autism to most other aspects of the game. Tinker's, again, expands that vastly by adding a couple dozen different tools and weapons, and often easily a hundred or more individual parts that you can combine. It's just way more content for this one area - toolcrafting - than any other aspect of the game.
As a consequence it also shifts balance widely. Its ranged weapons can be vastly superior to bows if made right: why aim an arcing arrow projectile when you can just hold down right-click on a Reinforced V shuriken to delete everything under your cursor? Its progression is just wildly different from vanilla.

>handling fluids
Vanilla has no fluids in the first place. It adds a great way to handle fluids while also being the one to add fluids in the first place.

I'm not gonna lie in that tinker's is definitely very vanilla-friendly in terms of feel and aesthetic. "Lore-friendly" if you will. Nothing like throwing thermal into vanilla, or anything. But it's just a big enough mod, with big enough changes to a big aspect of vanilla progression and a big enough balance shift, that playing with it is no longer something I'd call "vanilla+", but rather "vanilla+ with TiC".

Just set up an exp farm, enchant a bunch of books, then throw them all in the library. There's no work involved, especially if you have access to mob grinding utils or foregoing crushers. What bookcase you have literally doesn't matter since apotheosis spawners shits out so much mobs that exp is never a problem. Obviously you have to design your base properly to actually make it functional. For some reason I got it in my head to do this when I was just coming down with a flu, so I spent the entire day feeling terrible with a headache and eyeache and generally feeling ill, and I spent like four or five hours in that state getting a starting setup going and then just breeding and mutating bees all day long.

That burned me out on that world so I kinda just dropped it, but it also managed to deeply associate bee breeding with the utterly shitty feeling of the onset of a flu so whenever I consider playing with bees it makes me nauseous to this day.

Terralith does a lot to the worldgen with just vanilla blocks. Yung's mods and repurposed structures do the same to vanilla structures. Most of the biomes are pretty good and if you see any you don't like you can just disable them. If you want mods that add building blocks there are a million different ones for various aesthetics. Chipped, architects palette, lotta blocks, decorative blocks, etc. For bigger inventories just use one of the dozen or so backpack mods out there. Inmis + Inmis addon is a nice simple one.

Not all of it is shown here but this is my setup for automation yeast from pneumaticcraft. Basically it reads the fill level of a fluid hopper, and if it falls below 2 buckets, it'll retract the piston and start dropping sugar into the yeast that's there, which allows new yeast to form in the water source that forms where the piston retracted from.

>>
>>422958792
There are basic drones that can't be programmed that only do one specific task (farming, logistics, gathering, guarding) that you can get very early, essentially as soon as you have gold, iron, redstone, and a pressure chamber. The ones you can program require plastic to craft and to program, which requires you to have either biodiesel or regular diesel. Not super hard to get, and all the drones can be purchased from the Pneumaticcraft villagers too

So I literally haven't played any minecraft version more recent than 1.7.10. I wanted to try one of the newer versions, post-world height limit change, which I think are 1.18 and 1.19. However, everything I've seen of vanilla looks like absolute cancer, so I'd like to do modded. There's not much information on modpacks of the most recent versions though, so to tl;dr it:

>nothing too crazy in terms of magic or industry
Anyone know a decent pack like this?

See that's the problem. The mod itself isn't paywalled, at least not fully.
Basically there's some clashing between Fabric and Patrix' custom entity models (such as sheep), making the textures display all wrong (and turning the custom models off doesn't work either). For some reason not even installing the CEM addon for Fabric seems to fix this. Now Patrix is a greedy cunt and has a temp fix on his Discord channel...which you can only access if you link it to your Patreon account. So yeah.

Nothing fancy; Advanced Finders didn't come with a .cfg for the ores added by Thermal so I made a .cfg for it and added the blocks. I also tinkered with the cfg for the finders to ping on deposits of one ore so that I don't miss any tiny little hidden debris or cobalt in the nether.

Advanced Finders is a neat little mod; it's very vanilla-friendly and if you're into exploration and resource-hunting it's very fun.

As it happens, they now register the fish as forge:raw_fishes and the knives as forge:tools/knives so that's 90% of the compatibility needed off the bat. Just need to drop in some KubeJS

ServerEvents.recipes(event => {
event.custom({
type: 'farmersdelight:cutting',
ingredients: [
Ingredient.of('aquaculture:atlantic_cod').toJson()
],
tool: {
tag: 'forge:tools/knives'
},
result: [
Item.of('farmersdelight:cod_slice', 6).toJson(),
Item.of('minecraft:bone_meal').toJson()
]
})
event.custom({
type: 'farmersdelight:cutting',
ingredients: [
Ingredient.of('aquaculture:pink_salmon').toJson()
],
tool: {
tag: 'forge:tools/knives'
},
result: [
Item.of('farmersdelight:salmon_slice', 2).toJson(),
Item.of('minecraft:bone_meal').toJson()
]
})
event.custom({
type: 'farmersdelight:cooking',
recipe_book_tab: 'meals',
ingredients: [
Ingredient.of('#aquaculture:turtle').toJson()
],
result: Item.of('aquaculture:turtle_soup').toJson(),
container: Item.of('minecraft:bowl').toJson(),
experience: 0.35,
cookingtime: 100
})
})

ServerEvents.tags('item', event => {
event.add('forge:raw_fishes', 'aquaculture:fish_fillet_raw')
event.add('forge:cooked_fishes', 'aquaculture:fish_fillet_cooked')
event.add('forge:raw_fishes/cod', 'aquaculture:atlantic_cod')
event.add('forge:raw_fishes/salmon', 'aquaculture:pink_salmon')
})

and voila, Aquaculture 2 is now compatible with Farmer's Delight (and mods that use Farmer's Delight recipes, like Create Slice and Dice). Took me a bit more trial-and-error than I was expecting but eh, I figure it comes with the territory

True, but this was more directed some anons in this thread that said that every update beyond 1.8 is shit. I mean, Yung cancelled his cave mod because he said he couldnt do it better than vanilla anymore.

>people who can code often don't have social skills to coordinate
>modders are possessive of THEIR PRECIOUS, thus often won't let someone else make updates for it
>even if they would give permission, people drop off the face of the earth sometimes, either because they went off-grid, forgot about their mods, died, or who-knows-what
>>
>>423037915
>other things
like what?
the numerical->word ID that happened would count, but that was years ago
but how often does backend stuff get changed?

is that why the nuversions updates are getting slower, because microsoft has to go through every system and change it slightly to break all possible mods?
>>
>>423037757
Off the top of my head, between 1.12 and 1.19, Mojang has basically entirely rewritten:
- rendering
- texture mapping
- data generation
- (natively implemented) the ore dictionary
- item/block associated data
- terrain generation, multiple times, for two dimensions
If your mod touches any of those things (which it does, because the scope of what you can do without using at least one of those systems is limited), you now have a non-trivial amount of work required to port it.

>explain to me rationally why...are supposedly bad updates
It's not that they are inherently bad, as other anons have mentioned, but they are rather shallow. They're often very small and change very little despite some being touted as major updates with custom artworks and names. Because of this they are able to push them out with a relatively high-frequency, including smaller patches. So you'll have some major update that adds maybe like 4 or 5 things, and then 2 or 3 sub-patches that add or change 1 thing. Which, by itself, isn't bad (maybe just disappointing) but when you take in for account game modding, then it becomes a bigger issue, as other anons have already mentioned. It's not a huge issue for games like Minecraft which sort of have pre-defined versions to play on, as there are popular versions for modding, but it can still be annoying for people who wanna keep their mods up to day and not fall behind--after all, no one is clairvoyant, so you never know which version may become a major modding version. Don't wanna be caught lacking.

I'm trying Dawncraft. well only tried just a bit
You start the game without the dodging skills, enemy spawns in daylight, you cannot fight them, you cannot outrun them, and any enemy will kill you unless you cheese them. if you choose to cheese them, the hollow armors drop steel, therefore you get a set better than iron right off the start.
you need to activate the fight mode with R, but nowhere do they tell you, so you bash against mobs pointlessly until you figure out or quit
There is some mod that introduces animals, some crow has devoured half of my crop field, which means you cannot make easy food with crops, but without healing items you can't walk for long because enmeies crush you.
now you can keep dying until you luck out and reach a village, but if you start dying after you set a spawnpoint it became a very stupid game of corpse run.
in short, is an RLcraft but more unfair which is a feat to achieve

then you're a fucking idiot. there is nothing fun about trying to build something efficient and failing. you should always just copy other people's stuff.
>>
>>423109467
>nothing fun about trying...and failing.
Not that anon, but get fucked, faggot. Tiktok zoomer instant gratification ass bullshit.
>>
>>423110384
yea i bet you walk everywhere on your arms to avoid that "instant gratification" you little poser. fuck off.
>>
>>423109467
But this build works
>>
>>423109467
Fuck off chang.
>>
>>423100563
you can but it's kind of a pain in the ass (on purpose). there's also a mod to disable it hosted on kiwi farms
you should still just do what >>423100298 said though, there's no point installing all the bloat that quark brings if you just want the food blocks

Minecraft modding hasn't been good since 2012.

Correction: Minecraft was never good. It had potential to be good, but lazy devs and low expectations killed any potential. Member fortress mode? Member adventure mode? Member red dragons? Member pigmen?
>>
>>423109467
why would i copy people's stuff when the fun part of gtnh is figuring shit out? do you open a steam guide when you play puzzle games as well?
>>
>>423117094
theres nothing to figure out past HV you just put interfaces on machines and play with the pattern terminal
>>
anyone else crashing on startup in permafrost?
>>
>>423109467
What exactly is the point of playing if you're just gonna follow pre-designed schematics?
Just grab a world download then, even easier

>it's time to organise my fucking shitshack of a base
>got AE2 up and running and everything so want to plan for the long term
>everything literally built out of cobble and dirt so far, want to pick a proper "block palette" and actually try to build aesthetic
>open game, intend to work on figuring out how I want to build
>stare at it
>close the game
Well.
It appears I have finished all the accessible content in this pack.

lower your standards and build literally anything that resembles a building.
Since you've got a Matter Energy system set up, it is trivial to disassemble and reassemble buildings as many times as you want.
>>
>>423124184
post a picture of your base
i just played it by ear in rl craft (mine in the big spruce tin can in the sky) and i feel proud of it
>>
>>423124741
>lower your standards and build literally anything that resembles a building.
hm yea not him but i think that's the strat when you suck and don't know what to build. you can always revise shit later anyway.
>>
>>423124741
>lower your standards and build literally anything that resembles a building.
I hate that, I'm gonna hate it eventually but I'm gonna be too lazy to move any of my machines or spend time rebuilding it so I'll just hate being in my base, I'll lose interest and abandon the world.
>Since you've got a Matter Energy system set up, it is trivial to disassemble and reassemble buildings as many times as you want.
You mean with like their spacial blueprints and stuff? I've never used it but I feel like that'd still be a hassle.

>>423124863
I have no base (yet). It's literally just cobblestone. A giant floating plane of cobblestone with machines laid out in a couple of rows along it.
>>
>>423125026
add some wood paths where you usually walk and come back that might just give you some inspiration
>>
>>423125026
>You mean with like their spacial blueprints and stuff?
No, the most boring part of destroying anything is having to organize the items in categorized chests. AE removes that.
>>
>>423038719
Every major update huge chunks of the game get rewritten, and modders need to start from scratch with all code touching those areas. As of recently, minor updates are prone to this same shit too
Ironically, it's shit updates like the stupid bee shit that fuck up modders the most. Versions loaded with content usually feature very minor internal rewrites
>>
>installs Epic Fight
>it's not even kind of fun
What compelled autists to add dark souls combat to minecraft?
>>
>>423127620
Modding mindset. “I’ll take this feature the developers never really cared about and surely I, an amateur unpaid programmer can fix it!”.

Move once done.

pretty much this desu, it's not like the combat is already shit anyway and old combat is just spam click.
the problem was picking fucking dark souls of all action games to port in it, got mogged by better combat for that reason alone since minecraft players refuse to eat shit in the same level that from software players can.
