Gravity has nothing to do with it, dumbass. You go faster at higher altitudes because the air up there is thinner so there's less drag.
>>
my genuine AC8 wishlist:
- set before 2005
- grounded and cool superweapon (no forcefields)
- strangereal but minimal mention of muh belka, muh osea
- a decent story that isn't 5 or 7 tier
- a return to features from earlier titles (squad/ wingman plane selection etc)
- no shoehorned progressive garbage

that's all I'm asking
>>
>>394841016
Return to base to refuel and rearm.
Or if you live ten years in the future, get fuel from a tanker and get one of those rearming drones that slides new missiles onto your weapon pylons.

What's the difference between normal and hard in ac7? Is it just more damage taken and hp bloat for enemies?
>>

I don't know about more damage but in both hard and normal enemies require two missiles to kill (some planes three). I believe the AI is slightly better. the score limits are also heightened (you have to kill more in the same time)

>>394844964
Hard pass. One of the primary draws of Ace Combat is that it has a very grounded and functional aesthetics. Even when it's pulling bullshit like massive air battleships or railgun emplacements they usually design them with a down-to-earth appearance. It's based on that idea that, sure, the pentagon isn't likely to draw up a design for a giant autonomous propeller-driven airborne drone carrier, but what would it look like if they did? That thing you got there doesn't fit at all into that paradigm.

Of course, even Ace Combat tends to stretch the limits of the above mindset sometimes. Looking at you, ADF series.

I think aceg thinks of mechs immediately as gundams, which I agree is too anime and fantasy for AC. But I'm pretty sure PA can make a mech that fits AC style and make it awesome with like 20 railguns shooting everywhere.
>>
>>394848130
Yes. Terrible anime story, but one of the best AC games in terms of gameplay. Big missions and cool bossfights where enemies aren't protacted by seven layers of plot armor and scripts like in AC7
>>
I kinda wish Brave Arms didn't die in the concept phase ngl.
>>394848062
The first two can be handled with terrain masking, I hope. The fact that it has shields that can absorb energy to power the shields is a bigger issue. If it bleeds (in so as far as much a fuckhuge tank piloted by an AI can bleed) it can die, but the if in this case is big.
>>
>>394848323
Weird I bought 7 deluxe and it says I should have gotten 6 for free, but I haven't. Oh well
>>
>>394848356
Exactly my point. I'm not asking for gundams in AC, that's retarded and doesn't fit the style. But mechwarrior less humanoid mechs? They would fit right in with everything, along with land battleships and smaller airships that aren't scripted immune to damage.
>>
>>394848356
I just don't like bipedal walking machines in modernish warfare. I only think "why don't they just shoot the knees with AT weaponry"?
>>
>>394848356
AC3 already has walker tanks so fully fledged mecha aren't much of a stretch. As long as they can make it fit in with the rest of the series.
>>
>>394845384
Honestly I don't know about you but these things seem way, way more far fetched than anything in the series, the Arsenal Bird might be massive but it feels believable in AC's setting, this >>394844964 does not, atleast in my opinion.
>>
>>394848613
>why don't they just shoot the knees with AT weaponry
Because that wouldn't disable the legs, just like with your plane not exploding from a proximty-based missile or from being grazed by a machinegun of another plane.
Let's not mention the fact we're dogfighting in modern jets either, instead of fighting 10-20 clicks away from eachother and firing missiles.
AC has never been "grounded", it's an arcade game about anime aces fighting superjets, wiping entire airforces by themselves and giant superweapons.

>>
>>394848970
I get your point that Ace Combat has never been grounded, especially considering Air Combat's flying fortress but I still disagree.
The tactics and way of fighting presented in the games may utterly differ from the reality, due to discrepancies in scale, range and ammo capacity but I find it no different from depictions of combat in basically any video game that takes place after gunpowder was widely adopted on the battlefield.
Also you totally can die in with very few hits taken on Ace in the PS2 games.
Also also, THE KNEES
>>
>>394847862
The thing about mechs, I suppose, is that there isn't really a niche for them to operate in when it comes to AC. They ain't gonna fly, and they sure as shit aren't gonna be much of a threat to the ever-present air force on the ground.
>>
>>394848970
>AC has never been "grounded"
I disagree. It has always been about conventional armies clashing with each other, with superweapons and ridiculous air support mixed in. I already found the arsenal bird and alicorn force fields way too futuristic, it would haven been much better if they had some sort of very fast laser turrets that destroy incoming ordnance, at least in my opinion (megalith kind of has these but they don't shoot at you).
I don't think mechs would be a good fit, or a least not in a setting that is close to our current year. In a future setting closer to electrosphere they would be a better fit. even then, what's the point? If they're humanoid you can't make them too big before it becomes completely ridiculous, and if they're the size of a tank there really isn't too much of a difference.
>>
File: antlion.png (580 KB, 783x777)
580 KB
580 KB PNG
For me not wanting mechs in Ace Combat is just a matter of aesthetics, I just do not like how they look, even the "less" over the top mechwarriors. The antlions in AC3 I can accept since the setting is considerably more futurustic and so I can excuse some of the more out there designs, that said I do think it looks weird, manly because there is so little detail that I wouldn't even know what the hell it was supposed to be if I just saw it without previously knowing about it.

But the most jarring design in 3 in my opinion is the Sphyrna, it's supposed to be this very advanced futuristic flying command center but all I'm seeing is just a weird blimp.
>>
>>394848970
The other anon is right, in the PS2 games you died in one missile or a few machinegun hits if you played in the highest difficulties, in that regard AC was more or less realistic.
>>
>>394847862

Which of the AC planes would irl Air Forces be most interested in?

XFA-33 Fenrir gets my vote for it's stealth capabilities. To destroy a target without even being detected eliminates the dangers of risky attacks. And there's great possibility for close up recon. Extreme maneuverability might win dogfights but the way fighter development has been going it seems the tactical and strategic value of stealth is greater.
The active stealth admittedly requires an external power source, in X that's ground based but I could see it being implemented on carriers or larger support aircraft. And even without that just looking at it the shape of it Fenrir is clearly a stealthy plane, it literally has a low profile.

>>394897579
If we assume most of the downsides of the superplanes are present and scale up the potential costs from Strangereal to IRL, I'd honestly go with the ADF-11's, since they were extremely effective at their roles, was stated in-canon that it could be mass-produced (which I will assume means a country like the U.S. could eventually field them in numbers similar to the Raptor), and their autonomous capabilities were the best we've seen so far pre-electrosphere.
Most other superplanes seemed to have been shelved in-canon because their costs were likely too great in-spite of their capabilities, and if this was the case in Strangereal, its doubtful even the U.S. would be able to field them in any meaningful numbers.

>Supman2 + Flap Actuators
Pitch authority is essential.
>Airbrakes+Large Flap
They let you decelerate faster, and thus get a much smaller turn radius. It can pull moves that can surprise even superplanes.
>Blisk
More acceleration, I also used to put VCE on but I had to sacrifice it for Large Flap.
>lock-on speed for HCAAs
This way, I always get the shot off first in head-ons. The guide shows the best angles to shoot your missiles.

Alright to add onto what I put here
>Variable Cycle Engine
Energy fighters, particularly ones like the MiG-29, have almost a push-pull gameplay loop to them. You're going to be going in and out of high-G turns, building and burning energy a lot, so you want something that allows you to regain energy quickly once you expend it. The acceleration bonus is the main thing here, the top speed's can also help out but isn't the primary purpose of this part, at least in this build.
>Flap Actuators and Superior Maneuverability
As >>394914759 mentions, the main direction your plane's gonna be turning into is (relative to your plane) up. Having a boon to your pitch allows you to pull some really tight turns, and the MiG-29 is really nimble from the get-go, so this allows it to punch up in turnfights against Ameristani or Sukhoi jets. Against the European line, you're gonna have to get creative because they'll always manage to outpace you in a turnfight; that's what the Typhoon and Rafale are all about.
>Bulletproof Fuel Tank
I'll be frank; it's a cop-out part. But it serves its purpose well; I managed to tank a fellow MiG-29's shots during a joust in today's shootout thanks to it, and it allows me to not get melted instantly by the buddies here who are much more skilled with the MG than I am.
>SPW parts
The MiG-29 is a HPAA boat in its entirety, which means you want to adjust for the HPAA's downsides. Propellant and Steering Device don't entirely eliminate the necessity of positioning in it's usage, but it gives you more flexibility in where and when you can launch your shots. Weight Augmentation is there because the MiG-29 is (by the tree) a low-tier plane, so it doesn't get much baseline ammo. Proximity Fuse allows you to land guaranteed OHKOs against even X-02s and A-10s, as long as they aren't running full BFTs.

>>394914759
I'm wholeheartedly convinced it's sheer luck at this point, with how surprising the HPAA can be in making turns you wouldn't anticipate.
>>
If I forget to bring an air-to-ground weapon to Roca Roja, is it okay if I fire my standards unguided?
>>
>>394918237

I don't know how or why, but QAAMs felt way more effective than normal when I played online the other day. That, or I was going against players who actually knew how to abuse QAAM's massive lock angle.

>>394878523
Since I've started playing on PC, I've been using the TGM Hornet, and actually learning how to PSM, but I still dislike it. Either you don't use it, and PSM players spend the entire match with a massive angle advantage, forcing you to play defensively against them (which means they'll get you eventually unless you just run away the whole match), or you do use PSM, and you both get third partied by multilocks or BVR spam. Against some of the weaker PSM players, I can get away with just energy fighting, thanks to Blisk and Airbrakes, but the chain PSM stuff just highlights the game needs proper matchmaking so 500 hour vets can't go around smoking nuggets that don't know any better.
>>
>>394916894
Why VCE over Blisk?
>>
>>394934401
for a niche videogame like AC7 you will only ever go up against 500 hour vets or people who've apparently never even heard of the concept of pitch and yaw. better matchmaking isnt going to solve the inherent issue with ace combat MP, which is that its never going to have the playerbase to have a wide range of match experiences.
>>
>>394934401
my mentality is to use PSM only when i really think i need it. my planefu has full PSM versatility, and it's a nice edge to have at times. i try to use it to complement my energy fighting, rather than just making my entire way of flying built upon PSMing
gets me the best results, i think

I honest feel like a lot of players are self regulating. Not necessarily as a conscious choice, but out of desire for worthy opponents. High rank players seem to naturally clump together in lobbies almost organically. In the second shootout room we had three or four very good, non-/aceg/ players that hung around for forever. Presumably because they wanted to play with other good players.
>>
>>394897417
>>394946130
AC is Gundam with a silent protagonist, and a bigger emphasis on combat, so you cut out a lot of the character drama. This is a positive or a negative, depending on what you want out of your fiction, and the actual Gundam series in question.
Out of the few series I have seen, the closest Gundam gets to AC is Char's Counterattack (the film version, not the novel version); Amuro isn't silent, but the majority of the drama happens around him, rather than involving him directly. The crux of the whole conflict is a one sided rivalry spurred on entirely by the antagonist, and Amuro mainly just shows up to kick the shit out of everyone.

The Gundam series that are traditional war dramas (0079, arguably Seed and Destiny before Jesus Yamato BS kicks into full gear), yeah, if you make exceptions for the tech gap. The more oddball stuff like G or anything Build related, or even stuff like Wing or 00, definitely not.
That being said, now that I think about it, war dramas make up an every shrinking portion of the Gundam franchise. Maybe the similarities will pop up again when daddy Bamco inevitably forces both franchises to make an idol focused spinoff.

Would be kinda hard to coordinate and would require a lot of trust between the buddies here. Also no matter how strong the juggernaut is and how weak the rest are if you have 7 people launching missiles at you there's simply not much you can do.
Something that could work do is no SPWs tag. One guy goes with the DarkStar/Mig-31 and tries not to die while others chase him down in A-10s or something.
>>
>>394993992
>>394995348
Something more simple that could also be fun is a no parts round. I'm really curious how an MP match would look if the planes didn't have them at all. Of course there would also need to be a cost limit.
>>
>>394995608
SpW enabled could work. Lack of homing and damage parts would be counteracted by lack of mobility and armour parts.
SpW disabled would be a nightmare. Standard missiles would be woefully inaccurate with zero parts, and most hits/points would be from guns.
How would the cost limits work in this scenario? No parts effectively reduces everyone's cost by 400. Do we keep it at 2500, which allows everything but the superplanes, or scale it down to 2000 or 2250 to account for the lack of parts?
>>
>>394993992
>>394995348
IEWS Morgan with armour versus seven low cost buddies.
But yeah, would require extreme coordination.
>>
>>394996838
Yeah, SpW would be fine here
>How would the cost limits work in this scenario?
The superplanes are pretty much max stats even without parts so I had them in mind.
>>
QAAM should be removed from multiplayer entirely.
>>
>>394998069
Players were complaining about QAAM in MP back when AC6 came out. Back in 2007. You'd think PA would've learnt or figured out something in the 12 years between 6 and 7, even if 7's MP is less cancerous than 6's MP.
You can dodge QAAM consistently if you keep your energy up, but I will admit that one of the really nice things about the /aceg/ Shootouts is not needing to deal with them at all.
The bigger problem in 7's MP is EML.

Ace Combat X is a good short and sweet challenging game which you should absolutely play, while Joint Assault is only worth it if you can play it co-op (in most cases suffering through hamachi or radmin), otherwise it's mostly a letdown due to it's not great story, level design and handling which makes every plane feel worse than the AC7 F-16 with no upgrades.
>>
>>395008876
If you know the technically differences between the PSP and the PS2 as hardware, then you will understand the differences between X and 4/5/0 as games. Assault Horizon is pretty much the only one to straight up avoid, the rest are dependent on their hardware more than anything else.
>>
>>395008876
I haven't got the infographic, but I can tell you that
>ACX
Really fucking good, highly replayable, and the story's simple but very nice.
>Joint Assault
Divisive to say the least. The flight model is extremely weird and some missions are meh. At the same time, some other missions are cool, the story is beyond batshit, the bosses are amazing, and most importantly you can play in co-op.

>>395017632
Fast, manoeuvrable, it PSMs. The most powerful plane in the game if you use it right. As long as you've got a good understanding of firing angles (there are examples in the guide), you will consistently hit your targets and kill them. The only planes that can outturn you are
>Rafale
>Mudhen
>MiG-21 (though you will win if he can't get you in the first few passes)
>TGM Hornet
and you can still PSM to beat them.
4AAMs are best used as an opening, firing on a furball right before you dive into it yourself. They are not particularly effective, so your standard missiles will still be your main weapon.
If you use EML I will hunt you down for sport.
>>
>>395019210
I only use EML when people use QAAMs. I just started playing though so I don't have the good parts yet. Also how is the morgan or nosferatu in comparison?

>morgan
Nimble and equipped with powerful weapons for any role. Best-accelerating plane in the entire game, and you can capitalise even more on it with Blisk. If you do not PSM, it's best used between 1400 and 2200 kph to make the most out of its manoeuvrability. It only gets half-PSMs like the MiG-29, which are still a very powerful tool.
TLS requires skill to use, and it rewards you with steady damage and no way for the enemy to counter it except killing you. At the same time, using it leaves you wide open to attack and all the players in the room will be instinctively drawn to you since it's a big fuckoff beam. Don't get overly concerned with hitting people, or the enemy will exploit that to get behind you. Awareness is the name of the game.
MPBM is a meme more than anything, it won't give you much in the way of points but it will give you a good laugh. Even the dumbest players are usually smart enough to watch their backs after the first explosion.
IEWS is extremely powerful and gives you 30 seconds to breathe and kill as many enemies as you can. It will also paint a gigantic target on your head because people hate not being able to fire, and thus they will swarm you when it's reloading and try to gun you when it is active.
>nosferatu
About as manoeuvrable as the Morgan (Morgan wins out at low speed and Fandance at higher ones, the datasheet shows it https://pastebin.com/6Uh45geR), but it's got low stability and thus a higher stall speed and quirky handling. Conversely, full PSM capability gives you an advantage if you use that.
ADMMs behave weirdly. They're bog-standard multilocks at range, but if you fire them at medium/short range when your targets are at the edge of your lock-on cone, they will be very persistent and give you a greater chances of hitting the enemy. Each individual missile is as manoeuvrable as a HCAA and hits for the same damage of a QAAM. They thankfully do not loop.

I don't think I've had a bigger snorefest in the game to date. It was just a sniping match scattered across the entire length of the map. The Darkstar was the only BVR loadout in the match so I have no fucking clue what was going on there.
Sidenote, what's a good way of countering Darkstars? I've had some luck beaming HPAAs at them while they were running through the furball, but it seems that PA just gave it no real counters considering it can outspeed most missiles and planes, and spam SASMs out the asshole.

That's one thing that's really rough to me. The lad in the match was seemingly rolling a standard missile build which made it more bearable, but both SASM and PLSL Darkstars feel insufferable to try and avoid taking damage/denying points, considering SASM has that bullshit detonation radius and the quadruple PLSL can chip a lot of points before you even notice him.
>?
Poor choice of words on my part, meant that it was the only loadout that would have a specific reason to avoid knifefighting.
Everyone else was flying various flavours of Sukhois and an F-22 for good measure, yet everyone flew as if they were flying YF-23s or FB-22s, just disengaging from any fight once they sensed danger.

I've never flown it, personally, but it's extremely manoeuvrable and nuggets still don't know how to use it. Best used between 1000 and 1750 kph. UAV is as annoying as QAAM, extremely persistent and requires zero thought to use.
>Falken
An absolute joy to fly. It's so responsive and manoeuvrable, plus the engine is good enough to let you use an extremely aggressive playstyle. It's also extremely forgiving (wide optimal speed window, between 600 and 2100!!!) while actually requiring you to know what you're doing to score points (TLS, 4AAM, FAEB).
>>
>>395030971

>>395030438
Regarding multiplayer: as I recall it, originally they wanted an 'expansive' multiplayer experience, but we all know the development hell AC7 went through. Combined with some frustrating idiosyncrasies of the Unreal Engine they were working with, a more robust multiplayer became a casualty of their production struggles.

Not sure I know much about the outsourcing, but handing that element off to a middleware studio sounds like a plausible sort of thing a company would do in that situation.

Yep. When I first heard of skin modding for AC7 this was one of the first things I looked for, and was disappointed for a long time. Only recently started to actually work on it, some of the details are off from the real MiG-21UMD, which was a two-seat trainer, which made me take a few liberties (for example, the checkerboard pattern on my skin is actually shorter than the real thing, since the MiG-21UMD has an extended cowling over the intake nose cone. Being a trainer used for ceremonial flights it never actually carried any weapons either, so the real thing lacks the machine gun enclosure or the pylons on the in-game model.).

I'd wager it comes from the story of King Arthur. Depending on the version Caliburn is just Excalibur, or they're two different swords.

Wouldn’t be surprised if that was part of the original plan - there’s a fair number of characters who experience scripted in-game deaths that appear to be set up for an “alternate paths” route if the game had been fleshed out more considerably.

Thanks buddy. Now I wonder what convention I should use for the markings, given that >/aceg/ livery
>some of the details are off from the real MiG-21UMD
At least IMHO, if a livery comes from a different variant from the ones featured in game, you're excused with taking liberties as long as you do try to follow it close enough. Dornie posted pic related a long time ago as a... I don't know what to call it but it's useful.

The /aceg/ livery was basically just me attaching /aceg/ symbology to an abstracted Croatian standard, so the 404 squadron number supplanting the 165 craft number (which also has the squadron number within it; the number 1, because we only have a single fighter escadrille).
I personally opted to follow the conventions of the skin I'm imitating, but I have no idea what I'd do when working on an entirely original skin; I know a buddy working on the F-35 recently posted the thought he put into the markings on his skin, which might provide some inspiration.

It just feels like a shuffled F/A-18C to me, I can't imagine it being the definitive anything since maintenance scales pretty poorly with size an Apalis is biiiig.

Hello pilots. I'm sure some of you have noticed a conspicuous, uh... stall in our operations, and in particular the report for our last round of missions. The reason is because I do this for fun, and when it stops being fun and starts adding onto the missiles and bombs of outrageous fortune that's formed my life's proverbial furball then I frankly owe it to myself to stop, even temporarily.

Consequentially, for this one, I've offloaded some of the writing to various buddies and members of the 404th who've volunteered their aid. I leave it to them to identify themselves if desired. You're the real Aces, my friends.

There! Now everything is explained away in a satisfactory manner. I do believe we left off with a series of mission outcomes that went undescribed. There's... a fair bit to cover here so please bear with me.

>Operation Pirouette:

>It might not have been as impressive as hoped, but all things considered, it ended well! And it started well, too, with Warcrimes and Redeye pulling tight rolling scissors around Stargazer and Witch to start the show. After this thrilling start, the F-5s broke off dramatically, and, uhh, that's when coordination kind of fell apart.

>Now, don't get me wrong, everyone pushed their planes to the limit, but... you all kind of went off and did your own thing, you know? And it's difficult to keep track of four planes doing whatever they want. Stargazer went through the filed flight plan without a hitch, with the high-alpha flight and that extremely tight cuban eight being the highlights of his performance.
Warcrimes, on the other hand, decided to say screw the plan, and to the crowd's delight, promptly started throwing that Tiger around like no tomorrow... which also completely destroyed any hope at coordination. With an F-5 going completely bonkers nearby, Witch thus opted to show the Gripen's sprightly performance in another way: with tight barrel rolls and dramatic flybys of clouds, leaving behind neat Gripen-shaped holes with each pass.

>Finally, Redeye decided that the best way to demonstrate the Tiger's abilities in this chaos would be to have mock dogfights with everyone else and try to match them move for move. He did it beautifully, and it would have been an astonishing way to show it off in any other circumstance, but Scarface Squadron kind of spoiled the entire archipelago for it back in '95.

>In the end, the crowd WAS extremely pleased, but... it looked less like they enjoyed a professional airshow and more that they absolutely adored the flying circus impression. You all did your level best, but again, without a formation and with no coordination, it was difficult for the spectators to follow all of you while freestyling.

>Oh well. That's still a SUCCESS in my book.

I'll be handling the debriefing for Operation Pig Flight.

>It was a bright and sunny day over Selatapura, which made it very easy to see the record-breaking number of contestants who showed up for the race. Judging by all the liveries and insignias we saw, it looked like most of the racers from last year were in attendance, along with just about every mercenary and hotshot pilot across Usea.

>Among them was a very... VERY red F-22A, which was impossible to miss. Not for being eye-catching, he kept trying to open comms with all 404th aircraft in the area. But it wasn't to be, it seems all of you reported suffering issues with your radios' receivers when the self-proclaimed Crimson Count was starting up some rant about 'mercenary kingdoms' or another.

>Luckily, that bit of equipment failure cleared up by the time Selatapura ATC started guiding everyone to their respective circuits. And a few minutes later, the commentators confirmed it over the airwaves. The nineteenth Selatapura Harbor Hudson Cup Aircraft Race began.

>The aircraft of the amateur circuit cast dozens of shadows across the city as they did their best not to pull ahead without crashing into each other. And by all accounts, Flanker Anon and Keinon gave the other racers a hell of a time as they advanced, but couldn't keep up in the final leg of the race above the coastal zone. Sorry buddies, neither of you placed.

>The Mid-grade race, which featured most of our pilots on this op, went a bit better. There were almost as many aircraft here as there were in the amateur circuit, and they had clearly done some practicing. Pilot Anon and Habicht Anon were jockeying for first place almost the whole way, only getting separated for a few seconds at a time. Typhoon and Stake weren't far behind them, but were forced off-course when failing to make a high-speed turn about halfway through the race. They both got back on track, but lost too much time to make it in the top five. But the real show happened right at the end, over the stadium. Some photographer managed to snap a picture with the silhouette of Pilot Anon's Kelpie just barely beating his rival's Habicht over the finish line. Well done, both of you.

>Finally there was the high-grade race. Every racer gave it their all, but the commentators were focused on the battle between first and second. F-86 faced off against the Crimson Count again, this time above the skyline of downtown Selatapura and the harbor district. By all accounts it was close, but it was F-86's Fragarach that made it across the finish line first, just a moment before the Crimson Count's flamboyant F-22A did. He didn't stick around, but he didn't seem unhappy about it either. F-86 picked up a message asking him to 'remember me' and a promise that they would meet again.

>Then again, one of the other racers swore she saw him almost crash into a building on his way out, so take his words with some salt. Either way, congratulations to F-86 Guy for bringing home the first place gold medal!

>Mission SUCCESS!

Thank you, Bophster. I'll continue on from here.

>Operation Slow Dance:

>After the six of you touched down at Andressen Air Force Base on Sunday, you were ushered into one of the base’s briefing rooms almost immediately. Col. Whitmore was there to greet you all, and laid out the week’s itinerary: a five-day wargame, one match per day, against an Erusean squadron of similar caliber to our own, which would be observed by a few EAF high command staff. We would be flying as an attacking force attempting to destroy a simulated base, while our opponents, a five-man flight of F/A-18Fs by the name of Byleist Squadron, would engage to stop us. As Capybara was the only one with a dedicated Attacker craft, he would be our escort target. Commandant Roche, Byleist’s lead, seemed to relish the chance to train with blooded mercs like ourselves. His second-in-command, a fiery Captain by the name of Giraud, was convinced we’d be on the ropes by the end of the week.

>Oh, how right she was.

>Monday’s match started poorly. Byleist engaged head-on and managed to draw everyone away from Capybara in short order. To his credit, he managed to evade lock well enough to get a shot off on the target, but the officials declared a miss and forced him to make another run. By the time he was halfway through his turn he was the last man standing, and was promptly swarmed by five angry Hornets.

>Tuesday went much better; some fancy flying on the part of Dornie and Abb managed to keep a number of Byleist occupied, while Leo, Skyshark, and Pianist were able to fend off the rest long enough for Capybara to engage the target. One volley of missiles later, we were tied 1-1.

>Wednesday was a reversal in more ways than one. Leo and SkyShark took the lead but found themselves overwhelmed, while Abb, Dornie, and Pianist, despite covering Capybara as best they could, were eventually forced out of position by Byleist’s deft maneuvering. Capybara zigged when he should have zagged, and an errant missile from Roche ended his attack run before it began.

>I’m… not even going to touch on Engagement #4. Suffice to say, the cunning plan you concocted for the Thursday match didn’t pan out. At all.

>The Friday match started strong for us, with Abb, Leo, and Skyshark charging in and downing two of Byleist’s planes, but Giraud and her wingman managed to get the drop on Dornie and Pianist, respectively. Once again, Capybara was forced into some heavy maneuvers. However, while his moves were impressive, he forgot to keep track of his altitude and promptly passed below the Hard Deck, disqualifying him and ending the week with us losing 1-4.

>By Friday night, morale among our six volunteers was low, to say the least. Comdt. Roche, however, offered to treat us to a barbeque the next day as a thank-you, which I was informed went far better. The weather on Saturday was comfortable, the booze flowed freely, and the food was seared to perfection. The Eruseans weren’t bad company, either; SkyShark and Leo made fast friends with the maintenance crews, Abb was more than happy to regale a number of our exploits to a sizeable crowd, Pianist got the chance to sit in the cockpit of an X-02 they had on base, and Dornie may or may not have wandered off with a certain Lady Captain from Byleist to gush over Erusea’s new Mark III Pulse Laser Pods. Overall, an excellent cap on a not-so-great week.

>Col. Whitmore informed us that our performance was adequate, but the observing officers were, in a word, unimpressed. I really hope they think we went easy on them this time, otherwise we’re not exactly going to leave prospective Erusean clients with a good impression of us.

>I’m marking this down as a SUCCESS, but we came uncomfortably close to not getting paid for this one.

>Operation Trowel:

...Actually, we'll... get to Operation Trowel last.

>Foreign Aid in Tyler Island:
I'll just let this newspaper clipping say it for me. Here, pass this around.

>Mercenaries bringing medicine, not missiles!
>Paula Fina for the Hinkle Echo

>Yesterday, our little seaside town was visited by mercenaries once again. However, this time they brought medicine and food, not war and destruction. The two pilots of the “404th Mercenary Squadron” -who chose to stay anonymous, instead referring to themselves by their callsigns- escorted a supply mission by the FCU that brought much needed medical supplies, as well as the weekly food restocks that keep our little town going. As the escort went without a hitch however, they had enough time to fly back to their base and return with an old patrol aircraft from the Second Osean War. In two external tanks, they carried almost industrial amounts of Chili con Carne to hand out and the pilot with the callsign “Thunderchild” had prepared a special surprise, dropping little candy bars on parachutes for the children in town. With the flying boat moored close to the beach, other children and adults would take the opportunity to climb aboard and jump into the cool waves from the wings. All in all, the Hinkle Echo calls this mission a full SUCCESS for the 404th Mercenaries and we look forward to seeing them again!

Well, that ought to improve our image a bit.

...

Okay... I've stalled enough. Let's move to the big one. Alopex, you were there, so... have at it.

Long ago the Gods flooded the earth to punish mankind for their sins. The divine deluge washed away every major city, tearing down every thing civilization had built up. But not even the Gods themselves could render our desperate species extinct in one blow and therefore the survivors fled uphill. Pockets of sinners clinging to the only land the punishing sea left them. So too did the Delarusian remnants hide on the cold northern coast after we sunk the Tethys. We–tools of the Gods–flew there to dig them out, to harrow them off their dirt into the ocean. Hark, buddies! Let me tell you of

>OPERATION TROWEL

We entered the battlespace over land, with barely enough room betwixt our planes and the ground for a single horseman to ride, much less four. P-59 was the first to realize that a stretch of highway ahead of us was being used as a runway. He peeled off to sweep it clear of the enemy, then went on to destroy a Department of Transportation depot the Delarusians were presumably using for their flight ops. Julo started the music in his Tornado ECR and we advanced under the cloak of his jamming to suppress the enemy air defenses. Toast’s Nighthawk circled around, disdaining such measures and beautifully contemptuous of the powerful radiation emitted by the ships off the coast. He was the first to strike and sink one of the Delarusians’ naval vessels even as it tried to illuminate the rest of us, like a victim in a horror movie who only gets her flickering flashlight to work in time to see the monster before her. Oh, how my black heart twisted in admiration and envy! Spurred on by my comrades’ examples I skimmed low o’er the wine-dark waves and plunged my LASMs deep into the flank of another panicking warship. Yet whether by their good luck or my own ill fortune, an AA gun tattooed a misspelled proposal across my Rafale’s rear.

Flying behind me, Taiidan advised me to punch out. It didn’t “look good”, he informed me with the professional yet anxious tone of a doctor talking to a patient while mentally rehearsing his report to a disciplinary review board. At last! A glorious death in battle! I had been waiting for this for so long, longer than I had been flying with you, my friends. I started to relax, then reflexively tensed up in anticipation of ejection. An ejection that never came. Was IRIS going to let me perish? I see most of you are not listening as raptly or fearfully as I would like. Perhaps you think my presence at this debriefing means I could not have possibly met my end then and there. Not so! I could be an especially eloquent ghost. …Nevertheless, I soon arrived at the conclusion that my worrisome WSO had faith in my ability to avoid slamming my mutilated multirole into the ground. Trailing fire from my tail like a comet and swearing occult oaths into my headset, I cleverly crashed and came to a shrieking stop on a portion of highway P-59 hadn’t bombed. Expeditiously exfiltrating before IRIS could decide to eject me after all, I caught my breath and turned my attention upwards, to the battle still raging on.

Six S-32s making close passes in front of 404th planes to get kills first. My radio was still working, but perhaps theirs were not, for they did not answer any of our indignant hails. With their skilled assistance we finished off all remaining hostiles and completed our objectives. I waved at Mango’s Eagle when he flew low to make sure I was all right before he reformed with the squadron to head home and then I leaned back to wait for pick up. I took my helmet off–unfortunately my plastic fox ears I had glued on had fallen off in the crash–and looked up into the tragic sky. There were my friends: a collection of planes as varied as the eccentric pilots who flew them, yet flying in a formation tighter than the bonds of family with enough professionalism to make a bureaucrat weep like a poet. And behind them, the uniform S-32s. Sharp and dangerous looking with their swept-wing profiles and aggressive formation. Huh. That was odd. From the ground, it almost looked like they were…

The bastards spiked us and launched before we could even hear the cries of our RWRs. From my vantage point on the ground I raged and I swore and I shook my fist at the uncaring heavens, but I could do nothing more useful than watch the dogfight unfold. It was brutal and intimate and over far too fast, like a lethal knife fight with your lover. They were good. Really good, if I’m forced to admit it. They were cravens who took us by surprise and it took every last atom of skill and experience to survive and then fight back, but I’m not sure exactly how much difference a fair contest would have been. Bophster kept the presence of mind to take a few photographs of our assailants before he disengaged on afterburners. Despite severe wing damage, he made it to an FCU-allied air base with his XFA-24A intact. TVC and Kvant covered Boph’s retreat, teaming up on the mercenaries who tried to pursue him and forcing them back. I saw TVC’s Su-33 take a hit in a non-critical area. A second later I saw a missile chew up part of Kvant’s Gripen E. I checked with our mechanics and the required repairs won’t be completed before our next mission, sorry buddy. Mango and Taii took charge of our counter attack and brilliantly outmaneuvered those S-32 whoresons. Julo, TVC, and P-59 all got their own blows in too. Suddenly our attackers backed off and both groups of mercenaries went their separate ways home. As far as I could tell, only two of their six fighters were damaged. From the smoke trail, one was hurt quite badly. At the risk of understating our surprise at being ambushed by what we thought were allies… what the FUCK was that!?!

Er... thank you, Alopex. That was... very... uh...

...Byronic.

...either way, it suffices to say that our old friends in the S-32s are still a factor. It also suggests the earlier theories about them being mercenaries- or at least some sort of irregulars- are likely correct. That helps me narrow down my search, at least. Maybe we'll finally be able to get some answers.

Ah, right. I can at least close this off with some good news on matters of materiel: We've also finally finished the paperwork and secured the rights to the Yuktobanian Export Package of Tier 4 Aircraft, and the Su-32, Su-47, MiG 1.44, and MEME have finally been unlocked. We've also secured a supplier for Electromagnetic Launcher Weapon Pods, so... I mean, if that's your thing, go for it. I guess.

I've already wired the reward money into your accounts, so feel free to spend your hard-earned lucre on those new planes if you like. And those of you who've been holding out for the OADF planes... well, I'll try and get that worked out ASAP.
>>
>>395056106
We just don't discriminate that's all. And I think it's performance in recent history was a testament to the design as a whole.

Oh! But if you're less interested in a new plane, maybe you can consider putting that money towards upgrading our base. We've had some interesting suggestions over the months, and here's how they budget out:

>Second Runway (28,000z): The one we have works fine, but I know you all hate waiting in line to take off, so this could speed things up a bit.

>AESA Radar Array (41,000z): We've been using some outdated stuff for a while now. It's time to modernize!

>ESM Array (52,000z): Considering our circumstances, this may be one of our best options if we ever find outselves needing to defend our base.

>High-power Backup Generator (22,000z): You can never be too sure. Besides, you know how the weather gets this time of year!

>A Second Beach Episode Where All Your Waifus And Husbandos Temporarily Become Canon (69,600z still remaining): I'll throw in a free volleyball net if you can pull this off. But don't make a habit of weakening the veil between dimensions!

That... more or less concludes our current business. Hit the showers. ...at least I HOPE we have showers.

Dear God, I hope we have showers. Just... talk among yourselves. I'll be in my office.

After the LAAM / HVAA nerf the missiles are dodgeable, so try to box them off in one corner or the other. Eventually you'll get on their tail and you can start slapping them around. If you take a death, don't go right back into the furball. Instead, look straight for them and keep an eye on your minimap. Keep an eye on their name too, and whenever they respawn, start looking around for them.

Wow, you all put a lot of money into the base upgrades already.

The ESM Array and Second Runway have been paid for in full already-- I'll begin sorting out the work orders straightaway. The High-Power Backup Generator is a little under halfway, with 12,000 zollars left, and the AESA Radar is a little over three-quarters, with only 9,000 zollars remaining.

The... uh... beach episode still has 52,600 zollars left. But that's nearly eighty percent paid off, so keep at it!

autistic gayfag here
been playing a lot of Ace Combat games and thinking about them (help me)
What about a “blackout” mechanic where as you pull very high Gs your screen fades out? Or a meter that gradually fills as you pull high Gs, and decreases when you’re not in high Gs, and causes a screen blackout if you max it? Blackouts would be breif and you could even design missions that require high G maneuvers: like a tunnel run that’s an ascending spiral, which gets tighter and steeper at the apex, and requires a perfect missile shot, but you have to manage it so you fire right before blackout

there’s really no point in being an ideasguy, but I can’t stop thinking about things like this. A few other ideas as well.

another gay idea is dogfights with Nazi UFO style enemies
>inb4 that’s too silly
Nazi UFOs are very real ... rumors. Like the “bell” craft. There’s also the “Ball Lightning” phenomenon, which is similar to the UFO archetype in the way that they fly
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_lightning

ACE8 into “supernatural” territory? The’yre already leaning into the angel motif.
I can’t find raw footage on short notice, but imagine this kind of thing in Strangereal

>>
>>395070472
Yeah, as annoying as QAAMs are, they're a noob trap that tricks blooming metaslaves into thinking they know how to fly well. Raven pilots in particular have this terrible habit of dumping all their speed into one high G turn, and exposing their broadside to guns. You haven't known pleasure in this game until you've killed a full health three star Raven with one prolonged burst of gunfire, scoring 30k points in one pass.
>>
>>395104503
how to get gud with guns? i'm never precise enough
>>
>>395104907
Target view, watching how your opponent flies, and lots of practise. You pretty much have to lead by up to double what the pipper indicates; it may be worth practising with PLSL at close range first, before moving onto guns themselves. A genuinely skilled opponent will throw in rolls to throw off your aim, but most players aren't skilled, so you can sweep them with guns as they do lazy high G turns in front of you.
All this being said, at the moment I'm using the TGM Hornet with Lv2 gun damage, so I have a sizeable mobility and firepower advantage over the average player.

Biggest problem of all. As soon as you get a reasonable amount of people for a TDM, everyone votes to switch it to BR. O well, I'll leave it for another day. When you think about for the size of AC7 it's multiplayer is still relatively healthy for how old it is

MP rooms in AC7 are dictatorships ruled by the host. If you're the host, you can do whatever the fuck you like, other than forcing players to stay against their will.
If anything, I've found setting a room to BR when there's less than 5 players, then to TDM when there's 5 to 8, is the best way to lure in and retain players for TDM.
If you're really desperate to start a TDM room, you can boot one player if the room has five or seven, to get yourself down to even numbers to start.

I think we should just make a "general" parts guide, considering the surprising amount of people that seem to have trouble with them.
Here are a few tips to get you started:
>Stability and Yaw Maneuverability parts are useless
>In SP, always equip Queen's custom
>For maneuverability parts, prioritize Pitch and Superior Maneuverability
>Standard missiles are your main weapon in SP, so make sure to at least equip Homing on them at all times
>However, in MP, they're only useful to distract your target: as such, you can get away with only putting Datalink on them
>You shouldn't forget that you have parts for A2G, as well: for example UGB+Blast Radius and Bomb Reload Speed is a deadly combo for Homeward and Stonehenge Defensive
>In general, try to consider your plane and weapon's strengths: for example, a Fulcrum will benefit more from Roll Maneuverability than Superior Maneuverability because of it's slow roll rate
That's all I could think of for now.
>>
>>395150951
What are you flying, and what is he flying?
>>
>>395153053
Stability is actually a must on something like the Su-33, unless you're a really big fan of hearing "stall warning" for some reason.

>>395153053
>In general, try to consider your plane and weapon's strengths: for example, a Fulcrum will benefit more from Roll Maneuverability than Superior Maneuverability because of it's slow roll rate
But SupMan buffs every mobility stat of the plane, and thus you'll benefit more from the increased overall mobility over prioritising only roll rate (which is situational at best).
>However, in MP, they're only useful to distract your target: as such, you can get away with only putting Datalink on them
You can use MSL-only builds in MP just fine, though. It's all a matter of understanding where and when to fire.
>Stability and Yaw Maneuverability parts are useless
Agreeing with yaw, but cutting-edge large flap goes well with airbrakes because it increases the deceleration rate (and thus reduces your turn radius).

>But SupMan buffs every mobility stat of the plane, and thus you'll benefit more from the increased overall mobility over prioritising only roll rate
Sorry, I didn't fully explain myself on that point.
In my experience, Pitch Lv2 is enough to comfortably dogfight in most planes, and on the MiG-29, SupMan 2 doesn't increase the roll rate enough to my liking, which is why I usually put Roll 2 instead.
>(which is situational at best)
On any other plane? Yes. On the MiG-29? Sorry, but no.
The poor rolling performance affects it more than most other planes because it's only decent SpW is the HPAA: a close range dogfighting missile. In a knife-fight (which is the kind of fight the Fulcrum excels in), you need both good pitch and good roll to keep up with the enemy.
>You can use MSL-only builds in MP just fine, though. It's all a matter of understanding where and when to fire.
Good point, but I consider SpW builds to be more efficient in general. Funnily enough, the Mirage is one of the only exceptions to that rule.
>cutting-edge large flap goes well with airbrakes because it increases the deceleration rate (and thus reduces your turn radius)
I've never tried deceleration builds, so I can't disagree with you there.

>In a knife-fight (which is the kind of fight the Fulcrum excels in), you need both good pitch and good roll to keep up with the enemy.
It's a very ambiguous statement, so I can't argue specifics, but I'm gonna have to hard disagree on that.
The MiG-29 can keep up perfectly fine with a buff as seemingly inconsequential as Super Maneuverability. Keeping your turn radius lower than the enemy relies far more on your pitch than your roll, and if the player you're following engages in a rolling maneuver that's larger than about ~90 degrees, it's an automatic death knell.
High-speed dogfights demand very little rolling - you aren't gonna dodge a missile by barrel rolling at all nor will adjusting your rotation while flying in a straight line do you any favours either - it all comes down to pitch. Low-speed dogfights are generally so low speed that any lack of roll is nullified by the massive margin of error that such engagements grant you, barring performing an accidental overshoot.
I have very rarely - willing to say never - been in a situation where I found myself outmaneuvered by an aircraft solely due to their better rolling performance.

How so? The MiG-29 is a good energy fighter and it doesn't have good long/medium range options. So of course you'd use it for close-range combat. Knife-fights, by my definition, are close ranged fights (within ~3500m) where you're likely to use HPAA, MSL and HCAA.
As for the rest of your point: I have no real counter-argument left other than "it feels better to fly desu"______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________.

At best, roll rate might help you delay getting shot down for a few passes. You might confuse the enemy, but you lack the pitch authority to press in and exploit that surprise; meanwhile, the enemy will wise up in a matter of moments and adapt his flying style to account for it.

Any A2G weapon makes the fight piss easy. You can even kill him with UGBs before he submerges once. If you mean the part where you have to shoot the core before he fires, then just align yourself with the front of the sub and all-in the core with everything you have, if you are tanky enough you can do it in one pass, if not, then just repeat until it blows.

Okay, buddy, first things first. Look at the datasheet (https://pastebin.com/6Uh45geR) to see your 27's ideal cornering speeds, and compare that to your opponent's planes.
>straight-up pitch authority
Your 27 is at a slight disadvantage against the Wyvern and Raptor, and at a great disadvantage against the Rafale.
>engine power
More than the Rafale, basically the same with the Raptor, and less than the X-02.
In all cases, your opponent has the advantage as he picks meta choices. So how do you counter that? With your builds. Get yourself as much acceleration, pitch authority, and deceleration as you can, and you might actually match them for the first few passes: a small turning radius can translate into an advantageous angle for your missiles. I don't remember if you've got enough points for this in the 27, so see if you've got space for this build:
>Blisk 2
>Flaps 3
>Supman 2
>Airbrakes 2
>Datalink Antenna
>Thrust-Adjusting Steering Device 2 (MSL)

Typhoons, a Tornado, and an F-104.

My country has a parade in one of the main streets of our capital every so often to celebrate our day of independence, which also includes flyovers from our fleet of MiG-21s.
You can sometimes spot them if you go to the city airport, since it doubles as an airbase.
Most recently we had Rafales perform flyovers over most of the city to commemorate our recent purchase of used Rafales from France.
That's about it, really.

On the day my family moved into the house where I'd spend my teenage years, the Blue Angels were flying overhead. Turns out there was a base nearby and they were either performing for or practicing for an air show.

In more recent years, in a different part of the state, I've seen some F-16s and F-15Es come through, though not commonly.
>>
>>395197606
nah, just civilian planes and helicopters since theres an air port nearby
>>
>>395197606
Yeah, a F-5E when I was a kid, pretty much the reason why I like planes.
>>
>>395197606
At least once at an airshow when I was too young to remember, but not since. I live twenty minutes from Lockheed but apparently it's all helo stuff they work on there, not jets.
>>
>>395197606
I've only really seen f-16's fly overhead. I've seen plenty of gate guardians if those count, mostly f-104's and one f-4

Why is the rafael so OP in ac7 when it is a piece of shit in real life?
>>
>>395192607
Tibluk.
>>
This may be a stupid question but how comfy is it inside a plane? Is the seat comfy? And does a F-22 feel more "luxurious" than a F-16 like a S-class does to a C-class?
>>
>>395198296
Why are AC's cannons so goddamn slow?
>>
>>395197606
Yeah, two years ago, when there was a full lockdown, they made a improvised air parade. There flew some helicopters, and planes went after them. I think those was Su-25, MiGs and Su-34.

It's tight and snugly. Think of it as of supercar-comfy.

Heh
>>
>>395201024
Cmon now, you really think a rafael is on the same level as F-22 and SU-57 irl? It's a F-16 class jet, not even F-15 level.
>>
>>395201235
>not even F-15 level
Almost like they're different planes with different roles
>>
>>395201630
Yea but it's not shooting down F-22s left and right like in ac7. I don't get the overhype.
>>
>>395201235
>Su-57
Well, the Rafale actually exists, and the first production model didn't nosedive into scrap.
>>
>>395201974
The su-57 also exists and there are already 5 of them. Also looks better than the F-22 in every single way eat shit raptorfag.
>>
>>395201781
You can also do that with a MiG-21, like its a game or something, if anything, the Rafale is the only plane that can actually justify its bullshit no psm low speed pitch rate.
>>
>>395201235
the rafale beat the f-22 in a mock dogfight
>>
>>395200832
Maybe they're worried that people wouldn't bother with missiles if you could just shred the enemy in half a second of firing.
>>
If you had the chance, which plane would you want to fly anon?
>>
>>395202781
I don't see the problem.

I had the strangest dream today and you could make a movie out of it. I woke up and there was a war going outside, everything was burning and dead. I ran as fast as I could untill I reached a huge wide grassland and it had a old hangar like a mile away, but you could see it from afar. So I walked that mile and when I finally got there the sun already set. I opened up the rusty old doors and there was a old abandoned f-2 there. I then heard someone coming so I quickly opened up the cockpit and went inside. They enemies came in and searched for me, but no one noticed I was in the cockpit. I somehow turned on the engine and pushed the lever all the way hoping I would take off and I began moving forward, and I rolled all ober the grassfield for about half a mile untill I finally managed to pull up and fly. Then I continued flying away from everything, the war the country and just went towards the ocean. I eventually reached new land after flying on the ocean but my fuel was getting low, so I decided to die with the plane and flew all the way up into the sky untill the fuel ran out, then I crashed into the ground and woke up.
