How long will the Switch be alive? It's their best console ever and generations are lasting longer and longer now. Are we more likely to see a Switch Pro than a new console with backwards compatibility or did they actually learn from the Wii U?

they said last year the switch reached half of its lifetime so it still has a few more years. They could probably push it even longer with an actual pro model (with no exclusive games, so like the ps4 pro or the xbonex) but at that point they might as well do a new backward compatible system. How well the deck does imho will also impact what they're going to do
>>
>>351198934
PC Steam? No, probably not. I guess you can run Linux, perhaps some sort of x86 on ARM emulator exists somewhere which could run on Linux and in turn run Steam, but I'm sure that avenue is going to be mostly a waste of time since you're unlikely to get any usable performance out of it.

Just dug out my old PS4. Its still ln 5.05, but with 7.55 available should I update to that and jailbreak? A few guides said the 7.55 jailbreak is unstable and to use a lower FW jailbreak if your PS4 is on a lower FW. But I want to be able to play as many backups as possible so wouldn't I want the PS4 to be on 7.55?

how do I scan QR codes with fbi? sure I can just dump the cia's onto my sd card, bit that means takin it out, then putting it back in... we live in modern times.

also if I install a game that requires an update is it safe to just straight download the update from the system itself or should I inject the update?

You hit QR option in fbi then scan it from your PC or Phone. Beware though that the download speeds are slow as shit on old 3DS.

>>
>>351345656
With 7.55 and backporting it seems like pretty much any game is available to play that iusn't real recent. It also depends on if there are exclusive games you want that can't be pirated on your other machines (PC, switch, etc). If you don't have any modern consoles or a PC than a 7.55 or lower PS4 may be worth it if you actually play some games. Those games are likely cheap now ($10-20 used) so you have to think about if you'd get your moneys worth.

Although I will say that being able to just play whatever you want is a big benefit. Basically like havinga library of games on demand. A lot of older games were ported to PS4 as well and theres also PS2 games and emulators.
>>
>>351347829
I more or less mention it now because I have some extra cash, but I'm not entirely sure if I want to take the plunge just yet (I still have a good amount of games on my PS3 backlog as well as some PS2/PS1 backwards compat stuff). I know about the ports, but most don't look that substantial.
My question was aiming more towards knowing how far the hacking process has gone and whether it'll keep on getting better (and more convenient overall) or not. PS4 doesn't even have its own PKGI yet, right?
>>
>>351352068
I wouldn’t expect PS4 to get to PS3 level anytime soon, if ever. I wouldn’t expect a legit PS4 PKGi like vita and PS3.

As of now the main reason to have a hackable PS4 is for piracy, let’s be honest. And as of now almost the entire catalog is available, granted some obscure games are hard to find online or have dead links if they ever were. If you’re looking for a mature scene for homebrew, etc then PS4 isn’t quite there yet. But the scene although small relative to consoles like Switch has been active and the usual homebrew is available like emulators, etc.

Unless you can guarantee you'll play 30 games minimum to completion/"money's worth", I'd pass. Most PS4 games are cheap and the actual homebrew scene is dead on arrival.

That doesn't sound right, the emuNAND should not be in a file system Windows understands, while the regular partition should be plain FAT32 preferably, else exFAT, which are both recognized and should pop up normally. It's not something fixable unless Nintendo develop their own branch of Bluetooth or change the hardware. Sony have a modified Bluetooth in their consoles and require a dongle for extra bandwidth for the headsets. MS use a wireless signal instead of Bluetooth as they say BT is too laggy for their standards.

This all we're getting in the Switch. Laggy as fuck, you can only connect 2 controllers while using it and can't do local wireless.

I don't quite understand what you're doing, but here's how things should be: the emuNAND partition is not in a PC-compatible format since it's a direct copy of the Switch's internal NAND, it's not a normal partition or normal FS at all, therefore this partition is not going to be accessible on PC. The other partition, the one named "SWITCH SD" should be FAT32 or exFAT and should pop up normally on both Windows and Linux with no special intervention required. If it's not like this on your card then you probably fucked something up somewhere.

You need an older fmcb version, I install fmcb for a guy that sell ps2 with usb games and he always gives me ps2 with chips

Can I just insert a USB and load that ESR thing to the memorycard or something?

How dangerous is to use online in emuNAND? I've been using airplane mode there forever and was thinking of using that 90DNS thing just to get access to FTP transferring and such.
>>
>>351709184
Its not dangerous at all if you don't care about playing online. If you do, then avoid it.
>>
>>351708432
Your memory card should already come with ESR on the main menu, but you can just download the elf and copy it to the memory card if it doesn't have it.
You have to patch the iso with ESR to play burned games (using the ESR booter in FCMB, but FCMB already comes with it and boots it automatically if it detects an ESR patched iso)
>>
>>351708432
ESR is the application which loads PS2 games that have been patched to appear like DVD videos to bypass the antipiracy lockout. It's integrated with FreeMCBoot so if FMCB knows where to find ESR it will automatically use it when it detects such a disc.
You can run the FreeMCBoot configurator to see if it has an ESR path set up. If not just copy it to the memory card with ulaunchelf and then set that path up.
If you have a mechapwn-compatible console you should look into loading games from discs that way instead since compatibility is better. Or maybe just ditch discs entirely and load games another way.

There are like 3 methods to avoid getting banned. 90DNS, hosts file blocking and prodinfo blanking/incognito. Employing either of them will prevent you from reaching Nintendo servers and as such you will not get banned and if you're worried one method might fail you can use all 3 of them at once, so really it's pretty damn safe.

>>351724328
Like a modern LCD or OLED monitor? Very bad usually, people build and sell game-specific upscalers precisely for that purpose, the generic cheap shit will usually look pretty terrible. You may also need to get special cables to get RGB out of the console or even mod it for RGB output support to get good quality. If you want to use a basic composite output then the image will be pretty damn awful even with a special upscaler purpose-built for games.

>>351744228

Fuck no. I'm thinking of CRT computer monitor if anything. They are super cheap and got nice image quality. Problem is converting 15kHz to 30 kHz and getting rid of interlacing in certain consoles. They can even do 240p sometimes according to my tests on PC, but it has to be in 120 Hz as 60 Hz is out of range at that resolution.

No idea about that one. Generally speaking, as far as I can tell anything that can do good deinterlacing isn't very cheap, but I haven't looked into it too deeply. I'm not sure what exists for 15kHz to 30kHz and analog output, but in the worst case scenario you COULD use probably use one of the digital-output scalers with a HDMI to VGA adapter, though I think some might have straight VGA output too.

>>351835581
Get a decent brand and good speed card since they're not that expensive. I have a Samsung Evo Plus or something like that, 256GB and does around 100MB/s sequential. You don't want something too slow especially if you're going to use emuNAND or install Android/Linux on it, especially in Android and Linux a slow SD card can make them pretty much unusable.

I have a Hacked Switch that hasn't been touched since 2019. Is there anything important i need to before updating it?

It's on 8.1.0 Atmosphere 0.9.4
>>
>>351855465
Yeah, wait. AMS hasn't been updated for the newest firmware yet.
>>
>>351855395
I think it depends on the converter, I believe some are essentially lag-free but you'll need to do some research.

>>351855465
Don't update to 13.0.0 since AMS doesn't support it yet. I think 12.1.0 is the previous version, that one works.

Why is this guy's thread being thrown around as the primary download resource for "New Super Ultimate Injector" (NSUI) for 3DS by Asdolo when Asdolo himself is active on those forums?

https://gbatemp.net/threads/discussion-new-super-ultimate-injector-nsui.500376/

I can't seem to find where the author released the tool himself. The fuck is that? Just asking because I'm cleaning up some stuff on my HDD and I had the Beta 27 archived twice but with different file sizes.

Still doesn't answer my question but he seems ok with it being distributed by someone else. Very weird mode of operation if you ask me. Doesn't exactly inspire trust. Like if you're fine with the Beta being out there and getting passed around and discussed, why not at least provide a credible source. Any minute the thread author could just decide to switch out that link for something else. Why treat your users like that? Anyway, sounds like there won't ever be a Beta 28.

Considering it's proprietary software, you have no guarantee that it doesn't include a keylogger that reports directly to Nintendo HQ. It doesn't matter who you download it from, you can never trust it anyway.

Is running android on a switch worth it for emulation?
>>
>>351865423
Maybe
It's weird
Android is a chore everytime you boot it, since you need to pair joycons, i'd say keep it offline for as long as possible since it'll start updating shit on it's own
Not sure what it could possibly emulate better than switch homebrew, maybe citra, ppsspp and dolphin work somewhat? Havent tried.
I did however play the DS port of Chrono Trigger via drastic and a vertical grip, i like the upscalled look and the port in general.

There are native Android ports of some games i'd recommend, but playing them on a switch will not make use of the joycons.
You could play stuff like ace attorney 4-6 and investigations, professor layton in their definitive releases.
Sonic games have those christian whitehead ports that are great, but i think someone ported those to the switch homebrew so thats pointless unless you like ads.
There's plants vs. Zombies and the ambitious mod of pvz2 called Eclise.
Square released a lot of their old games for android in good packages recently
Ff Pixel remasters, chrono trigger, dragon quest (played vertically).
Yes you can pirate all of it.

Personally i'd just play most of it on a tablet or a big phone since most of it doesn't have button controls.

And you can sort of block the ads in f2p shit if you root and use adaway, but i'd say to just do that with a native android device, if root isn't available you can use blokada to block ads on any android.

No, I don't think you can. Turn off auto RCM, then turn off the Switch completely and turn it on again. It should boot into stock OFW, as per normal, unhacked operation.

>>351864838
It's fine as long as you actually boot stock and don't need hekate, though I don't know if it does or doesn't update the game card reader as well, if it does then it won't work on your older FW emuNAND anymore until you update that one too, when ams supports it.
>>
>>351868230
>Android is a chore everytime you boot it, since you need to pair joycons
That's not true, are you on some old version? My joycons always work in Android without any intervention.
>There are native Android ports of some games i'd recommend, but playing them on a switch will not make use of the joycons.
You sure? I only use Android for PC streaming and the joycons work in PC streaming apps, so they should probably work in Android games and emulators which support controllers as well, shouldn't they? I really doubt Steam Remote Play and Moonlight have some special joycon support, they almost certainly use whatever controller support Android itself provides and so should other games/apps.

Both SanDisk are the same price but the ADATA one is WAY cheaper.

Not yet, maybe Bluetooth will provide a way in. I doubt anyone will release anything until OLED comes out. Still kinda surprised since you can't do much on updated models via software and SX got Nintendo ninjaed a while back.
>>
>>351886265
No idea about ADATA, but I hear SanDisk are supposed to be good. The Switch itself can only do 100MB/s I think, so that should be sufficient, assuming the card rated form 100MB/s actually hits that speed in practice. If they're the same price for the same capacity I'd probably just buy the one rated for higher speed.

Nah, you don't need to pair them ever in Android 10, they're paired already and you can take them off the rails and put them back and they'll still work. I haven't used Android 8, I remember it was a huge pain in the ass to install on a separate partition since it didn't support installing via hekate, so I never actually bothered with it. Also I think emulators on Android do tend to have controller support, so if that other anon wants to use Android for emulation I imagine the joycons will work fine.

Take it from someone with experience, those cases are pure shit. The plastic is very cheap and that shit will crack just from basic use. The plastic can't even take the strain from the screws. Most cases will have some paint peel over time but it's nothing some plastic friendly paint can't fix if you aren't a brainlet at matching colors.

The OP kind of says all of them work, unless I'm misunderstanding. Or maybe I should get a used PS4 instead? I'm finding cheap ads for both, but most of them are hacked. I loaded a bunch of PS2 ISOs for OPL not too long ago and the same thing happened to me.

Seems to be an issue with OPL not correctly detecting the game ID, your only solution is to download it from elsewhere, if you got a pre-patch you can try to download the original ISO and patch it yourself too. I think I had to download like 3 different ISOS of Phantasy Star Generations 1 and 2 before I found ones that were actually detected on OPL, not even the ones on the translator's official site would work.

Also, if you get OPL Manager on your computer you can use it to audit your ISOS beforehand, a bit more convenient than launching OPL every time to check.
>>
>>351973397
Never buy hacked consoles, cause if your shit breaks you won't be able to fix it, and even adding new games will be a hassle, get a clean one and mod it yourself. If you want a PS3 look for a 2501A, 2502A, 2503A or 2511A (assuming you live in the states), these models were manufactured with the tantalum capacitors (dead capacitors=YLOD, tantalum ones pretty much will never break) of the super slim models and are compatible with permanent custom firmware (HEN has to be toggled on every boot). As for PS4 i wouldn't recommend it unless it was on 5.55, the 7.55 exploit only works like 20% of the time.

I just got done hacking my 3DSXL after unboxing it for the first time ever and two days later I've got like a billion games on it. Now I'm just gonna install some themes and get an even bigger card so I have some spare space in case I ever need it (might upgrade to 128Gb or 256Gb just cuz)
Any reason I should buy a ps vita or is there really not much to be gained from modding one of those? The only game I really want to play on the vita would be Peace Walker and maybe MGS if it can emulate PS1 games well enough. I have a steam deck on reserve for Q1 next year, and after the fun I had modding the DS I'm definitely going to do it on that too.

PS Vita modders, are you happy with your modded vita? what's your favorite stuff you've done with it?

If you want something inherently channel-less like usbloadergx to load just install a forwarder and boot that, be sure its a vwii version.

>Any reason I should buy a ps vita or is there really not much to be gained from modding one of those?
The Vita scene is actually much more active than the 3DS scene, over the past months there have been several ports of big Rockstar games like GTA:SA or Bully, and the system is simply much more powerful once you unlock all of its potential by adding a handful of plugins. Once hacked, it's truly an excellent system. Make sure you get an original model, though, the proprietary charging port is dumb but the screen makes up for it.
Despite the jokes, the Vita actually has quite a lot of great games. The library is on par with the 3DS for me.

As for PS1 games, it has the PSP hardware built in, so it runs everything the PSP did, which is pretty much the entire PS1 library, and of course the entire PSP library.

Forgot to reply to this part:
>run games from an SD card
>make games run at native instead of sub-native resolution
>overclock to dramatically increase performance
>custom boot screen
>adding the percentage to the battery indicator
>make PSP games run at native resolution instead of being upscaled (this doesn't work for all games, though)
>permanently disable the volume warning (if you're in the EU)
>back up save files (in one of Sony's most mindnumbing decisions, if you delete a game, the save file is also deleted)
>use translation patches
>use both analog sticks in certain PSP games
>(on the PSTV) remove the blacklist that prevents you from playing most games

>>352057205
It does. The wifi is pretty useful because you can install games on the Vita itself with pkgj, and you can use VitaShell (the file browser) to set up an FTP connection to do everything you don't want to do on your Vita on your computer.
>>
>>352057379
Thanks a lot. I was on the fence about getting it but I think I'll buy one. Idk if I'm gonna go for the oled model though. I do want a better screen with the color saturation that an oled provides but it's important for me to be able to use battery packs on the go if I'm traveling. Is there an easy solution for charging the 1000 models on the go despite the proprietary charging that some people have mentioned? Or do I NEED to stick it in a wall when the charge runs low? Thanks again for all the help.
>>
>>352059010
I actually don't have an official charger as I also got mine second hand, but in any case you can just get a USB cable with the proprietary connector on one end and a standard USB-A connector on the other end, so you can stick it in any USB charger and it'll work. The annoyance is just that you will always need to have one of those cables and you can't just use the cable you use for your phone or whatever. On the other hand, I've also never heard of the Vita 1000's proprietary port breaking, whereas MicroUSB ports like the one on the Vita 2000 are flimsy, so it's not all bad.

Anyway, it's not like the PSP Go where the system won't charge (when the battery's run out) if you don't use the official power plug because Sony thought it a good idea to add a proprietary handshake protocol to a charger.

My joycons are lagging in a 5m square room with nothing in between the switch and my joycons, this happens with or without my WiFi router being in the room.

I notice it especially in action games or when the camera doesn't stop moving, sometimes when mashing A the system records a long A press, in no more heroes 3 I'll find that instead of a barrage of attacks I'm loading my strong attack and then it will take 5 or 6 presses to dodge.

What gives? Happens on both my joycon pairs.

So hacking my 3DS was fun and now I've got like 90 of the best DS and Gameboy games on it. Thinking about hacking my switch and/or buying a PS Vita to do the same. I know the vita can emulate p much all PS1 games, can it also emulate stuff like wind waker and sunshine? If it can, I'll buy one and hack it right away. It's there any reason to not hack my switch? Is there anything great about hacking a switch besides the games being free and removing weapon durability on botw?

And last question, how long does it normally take for new games to show up as free roms? Dread comes out soon, how long are people expecting to wait before it's up on a rom site?

delete the emummc folder, back up the rest of your SD card to your computer, extract Hekate to the now-blank SD and boot it into the formatter function in order to wipe the emummc partition. Then just restore the sd files to your card. Though if you have less than 1gb of data on your SD after deleting the emummc folder at the start, you can keep it all on the card when you go to format, since Hekate will save up to 1gb of data to ramdisk when formatting.
and back up your saves before doing anything, obviously.

>>352146347
It's basically impossible to get banned if you take the time to understand what you're doing and how shit works. The piracy will (should) essentially be kept on the SD card only and you set it up such that Nintendo servers (or the internet entirely) are not accessible from here, therefore it's impossible to get banned. You can still boot the Switch stock and it will operate unhacked, therefore the risk of getting banned is 0 if you don't fuck up.
