What’s /v/‘s thoughts on the FUGA series? Is it worth playing?
Fuga 1 and 2 are the only kemono games that aren't porn or genuinely garbage. Decent 6/10s and that's it. They have the budget of a happy meal even though they cost 3 million fucking dollars because CC2 is fucking retarded

One combat screenshot is about the same as the others.The walk-around bits are restricted to inside the tank, while you control one character and talk to others, collect materials, and repair/upgrade. There's a method of priority to these such as upgrading character links or making the kids happy, but it's the same location all the time.The rest involve story bits (clicking through text) and choosing which straight line to take with branches between combat fights (determining difficulty). Seriously, if you go to the Steam page you'll see 100% of what the game has to offer graphically. There's also a demo for the first three chapters to see how the game plays out.

It's EXTREMELY repetitive and manages to make a 40 hour RPG feel like 200. The fundamentals of the gameplay are solid and the production, while cheap compared to major studios, is lovingly crafted regardless. Ultimately though unless you're a furry fan or hardcore into every damn RPG under the sun I'd say there is no real reason to play Fuga over other better games.Just because something is niche does not make it a hidden gem.

Giving the player the ability to kill off any main character in any chapter of the story means that no one character is actually able to be an active participant in their own story. The devs couldn't plan out anything like "ok, we want this character introduced in chapter 4 to have this key piece of dialogue in chapter 9" since in every intermediate chapter the player has the opportunity to unexist that character with the magic murder gun. It's a terrible mechanic for what is meant to be a story-heavy game and the devs shot themselves in the foot by including it. It really is a shame, since Solatorobo was basically a masterclass in how to write a videogame protagonist.Fuga 2 meanwhile removes the ability of the player to kill off (at least some) characters, and as a result these characters are actually able to have things like planned arcs and meaningful development. The sequel overall has a much stronger story because of this.

The best solution I’ve seen is to inflict burn damage unto them prior to them raising their barrels. This not only causes damage to them both when they raise and lower their barrels, but also makes the use Spear Rain on their next turn and lower their barrel immediately after. All that is left is to defend for their attack. It doesn’t bypass their counterattack but it does mean you can immediately resume your attack. You usually get the chance to improve you bond with characters after talking three times so I allocate 3 AP to improving each specific affinity.
