What's your favorite city from a video game, /v/?
>>625364702is that cheydinhal?
Necrom in Tamriel Rebuilt is beautiful
>>625364913Good eye, anon, yes, it's Cheydinhal.

>>625365080Nah, just modded Oblivion, stuff like visible interiors and some basic texture works.
It's hard to pick, I like many.A lot of towns in Oblivion are just great too
>>625364702City in a video game? Probably VTMB's depiction of Los Angeles, it's so fucking grimy and disgusting but also atmospheric and beautiful, I both love and hate it and that just makes me love it even more If we're talking city that originates from a video game and isn't in anything else, probably Yakuza's Kamurocho because you get so intensely attached to it across the series that by Yakuza 4 or 5 you know each building and street off by heart and can tell when a store gets renovations in a sequel or gets replaced by something else, especially in Yakuza 6 where this is a major theme of the game
>>625364702Of course it's Khorinis.

Was pretty comfy at night being on the lower floors looking outside, then going up the tower into your bedroom and just being comfy inside while all the worst of the worst were out that night.

Rapture
>>625379235Home.
>>625376406Not the person you're replying to but..Karnaca had it's moments, but the environments felt really varied and inconsistent for all being the same city. You'd have these areas where the architecture and interiors were post-modern directly juxtaposed with slum houses filled with wasp nests and corpses. Then you have this thick jungle-like forest meshed with the city backdrop, but get to the Dust district and now it feels like a completely different city.Which technically was the intention because of the mines and it's negative effect on the area, but go back to DH1 and the Flooded District still feels like the rest of Dunwall despite being effectively just ruins of an abandoned part of the city. The Duke's mansion felt like the worst offender in this. Felt like some swanky rich person's SoCal mansion in the hills compared to the rest of the game. Complete tonal whiplash.

>>625434195>Fable 2>The original town is a haunted shithole
>>625434919Dangerously based.
>>625433923I see, you're simply being an "internet asshole" because it's a fun role to play on 4channel.org.Oh well. I'll talk about myself, for your sake: I'm a 35-year-old man who also enjoys FFIX, especially for its use of background images as maps for its 3D models to "interact" with to simulate 3-dimensional travel on a 2d plane (as Square is also known for doing in other Final Fantasy titles, like VII and VIII). I am also aware that the company, Square, has "lost" its original master-copies of those games and their associated art. However, there are a few artists, assigned 3rd-party to draw a few of those images/maps for those games who HAVE kept their own master copies, though it totals to an extremely small percentage of the games' total. One such artist is Jake L. Rowell.https://www.jakerowell.com/blog/gallery/final-fantasy-ix/for examplehttp://www.jakerowell.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/final_fantasy_IX_jakerowell_design_evilforest9.jpgYou have posted one image from his collection. Purposefully of not, you actually posted the "largest" of all his jpg files he has shared. The "Alexandrian Banquet Hall." All his other files are actually of smaller dimensional size and would, themselves, require post-effect upscaling as well to reach "HD" output.Moguri Mod does a very good job of applying that post-production AI upscaling, and it does it to all of the FFIX background maps. It does it so well, in fact, I would rate it nearly equivalent to the few examples of original artwork we have available to us (if downscaled to meet J. Rowell's jpg dimensions)! It's wonderful! You seem upset by the use of hundreds of hours of critical AI mathematical upscaling followed by human artist critical editing and its application as a "mod." Offended, even.Incidentally, here is another "original" artwork from other artists (namely Kusanagi Studio) of those lost files that I would love to see a sort of Moguri Mod replicate for games like FF7 and FF8.
>>625418981I'm more of a Shariz man myself. Something about the edge of the desert, by the sea, with hookah bars.
>>625435163Pelican Town... home...
>>625435110Or perhaps the iced-skating rink in Galabadia Garden. I'd love to see a Moguri Mod of FF8 for all that artwork.
>>625435110You're not a real person.
>>625435206Or part of the Wall Market of Final Fantasy 7. I feel a Moguri Mod type AI upscaling would be a more generally approved "remake" that the FF7R we received from Square-Enix.
>>625435110>I see, you're simply being an "internet asshole" because it's a fun role to play on 4channel.org.What the fuck am I reading?
>>625434982>>625435061Yeah, the cities were so comfy and all so varied. Oakvale was a nice wooded farmland on the bay, Knothole glade was kino and lush PNW evergreen and ferns and rain, etc. If they ever release Fable 4 hopefully they can recreate the charm.
>>625435256I'm very real, bro.As much as you and I can agree that we both would LOVE to see full-sized digital representation of all the original mastercopies of the background art from Final Fantasy, I'll go one step further and appreciate the products created like Moguri Mod.Heck! You and I are only posting STILL IMAGES... many, or maybe even most of those backgrounds are MOVING VIDEO files! Can you imagine a 4k version of this image? Wonderful!
>>625364702While not a city, Solomon Island from Secret World (Legends). Cozy, nightmarish, New England town, lotta crazy ass history. For an actual city: Praetoria from City of Heroes.
>>625365465>it's so fucking grimy and disgusting but also atmospheric and beautifulDitto for Hengsha in Deus Ex: Human Revolution
>>625435187least it was before I fucked it all up
>>625402017For me it's Ironforge
>>625403254Baldur's Gate mogs this disjointed mess of a city.

>>625436928What did you do?
>>625364702https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4OQDvRBKcE
>>625365208>basic texture worksWhy lie this hard
>>625433923>>And J.K. Rowell's other renders, such as>Are you an ESLfag or a bot? Your posts are incomprehensible.Anon is a shill (although the mod is good) but how is there a single thing hard to understand? Are you one of those retards that think you can't start English sentences with "and", or use verbless clauses?
>>625370252Basically. I moved here about five years ago. I’ve never lived in a place where people are this dumb.
>>625441052>disjointed mess>has actual clear districts with focuses instead of a general mishmash
>>625441401Drove a tank through town. Crushed Clint's shop, destroyed the town square, ran over Pierre. They wanted to sue for damages but I crushed their legal office as well before fleeing.
For me, its Rattay
>>625441693>Are you one of those retards that think you can't start English sentences with "and"You can, but not the way he did. What he wrote was a sentence fragment. He's absolutely missing a clause, and you're illiterate if you want to pretend otherwise. That aside, his entire post is a trainwreck of incomprehensible English and non sequiturs that don't actually address what I said about comparing those images. He just starts ranting about the resolution of a few images posted online by an artist, and the resolution of backgrounds in the mod which has fuck all to do with the detail being raped by the AI upscaling.Don't try to get into a nitpicking argument about English if you can't follow what the posts were talking about because you have a chip on your shoulder from when your old teachers yelled at you for starting sentences with the word and. There are some right ways to do it, and many more wrong ways to do it.
>>625441693You can't start a sentence with "and" and then follow it with a verbless clause. You're a retard if you pretend you can. If you do want to pretend you can, then post a single actual example in published and reviewer writing or fuck off.
>>625364702Stormwind. I want to go back to 2004.
>>625442069Artist somehow made it look quite big.
>>625364702I have a soft spot for the Citadel in Mass Effect 1, even if it's pretty simple by RPG and open-world standards. Beyond that, I really liked Night City in Cyberpunk. Even if it needed two more years of damage control to make it work properly.
I wish it were used properly
>>625443558This also how they still haven't fixed Exodor and Silvermoon without loading into a whole separate zone still bugs me
>>625364702>favorite city from a video game, /v/?The City
>>625364702Carcer city
The Hub in Fallout 1
Everything about Taris is so comfy to me
>>625446001Seconded. A lot of people say it was a slog, but I think that's just because it's the area people have repeated the most on unfinished replays of the game. The undercity is bland, but I really liked everything up top.
>>625364702I always liked Kensington in MediEvil 2
Tatsumi Port Island, home.
>>625446137Is this Tibia or some Ultima?
>>625416006I really loved those cloud effects early gta's had, it gave the atmopshere a good touch
>>625448565TIBIA
>>625364702Night CityOther ones that come to mind are Novigrad and Beauclair from TW3, the Imperial City, Balmore from Morrowind, LA in VTMB, Baldur's Gate (really really looking forward to see its BG3 incarnation).
>>625379235It's unreal how gorgeous they made that city look. I would often stare at distant points and wonder how fun it would be to explore it.
>>625416652>>625412120>>625388838>>625387120mein taffers
>>625365465This by a longshot, followed by Anor Londo from Dark souls and Los Santos from GTA V
>>625366245Novigrad was better. It looked and felt alive, Beauclair is pretty but it's like a theme park fake city.
>>625370375I really don't know why Dishonored didn't leave an impression to me, it has multiple ways to progress a level, lethar or non lethal, many optional quests, everything i desire a game to have, but when I'm playing something seems off and I can't figure what is it.Is it the cartoonish design, the superhero abilities, mediocre story, lack of immersion? I don't know.
>>625452824>Is it the cartoonish designThat's part of the game's charm and SOVL>the superhero abilitiesWhat's wrong with those, they're fun>mediocre storyI don't disagree> lack of immersion? That's just you m8 I think
>>625452991you sound like one of those people that likes marvel movies
>>625364702IDK probably some comfy JRPG shit or maybe clock town
>>625452824I had a similar feeling. I think the biggest problem I had with Dishonored was how gamey it felt due the stat screens at the end of every level. I don't need to know how many coins, paintings and charms I found / missed. I don't want to know about the chaos system when I first play the game. I don't want to know about the "didn't kill anyone" and "undetected" status. Yeah, I can just ignore all of that, but on a first playthrough it feels like you're encouraged to find all of the shit, be completely undetected and non-lethal and that kind of ruins the immersion and appreciation of the world because I have all of those useless metric in the back of my head. Also they shouldn't have been pussies and disabled all of those gamey HUD markers.
>>625453215The only marvel movies I've genuinely enjoyed were the first avengers one and winter soldier, the rest were boring, had retarded stories, too much whedonspeak and tried to do too manycharacter arcs at onceWell I liked Sam Raimi's Spidermans too but I don't count those as modern marvel
>>625453559>disabled all of those gamey HUD markers. You can do that yourself in the game options
>>625374583game?
>>625453732read the post that anon was replying to
>>625453650I know and I always do now but when I first played the game I just left them on because I had no idea if the game is designed in such a way that you can find your objective from in-game clues only.
>>625453873does the room serve as your base? Is it only accessible during the initial portion of the game because it looks really cozy and im debating on whether or not to play dying light
>>625454182i dont know anon i havent played it
>>625454182It's available throughout the game. I haven't played Dying Light in a long time, so I can't remember exactly, but for most of the game the tower that you live in is a central hub that you keep coming back to. You might spend a night or two at a safehouse somewhere else because you couldn't get back in time, but for the most part you'll always be returning to the tower. Around halfway or maybe two thirds of the way through the game you go to a new area, but you can still return if you want to.
>>625454808Is Dying Light a good game? How about the sequel? I've been wanting to find a game I can really get into for a long time with exploration, sandboxing, etc
>>625455013Yeah, it's pretty good. I've never played the sequel though.
>>625365004>>625365208>basic texture worksI can't even recognize where that's supposed to be in Cheydinhal
>>625453559>stats screenMaybe it's that too, Thief also had this but it didn't tell you if you missed some loot, it had a goal of x amount of coins you had to collect and that's it, on Expert difficulty which it is the way Thief should be played you had to collect some extra items or you couldn't finish the level.Thief is another example why a game should have restrains, you're playing a character where you have no chances on combat, stealth is mandatory in order to progress, in terms of immersion Thief got it right and it's something that is missing in most of games.
>>625386226
>>625455981Looks like shit
>>625385298Ah the poster of Baldur's gate has awoken. It is time for more random street encounters.
>>625446001>>625446608Yeah I'm the complete opposite. I see that image and have to physically restrain myself from getting upset about having to go up and down the levels and from one end of the map to the other to trigger the story. I can bear with it once I'm down with the rakghouls because it's pretty much a straight line at that point but fuck me I've done Taris one too many times.Weirdly I can cope with Peragus and Telos, I guess because while they too are a slog, they're technically straight lines. A STRAIGHT LINE THAT SHOULD BE EASY TO WALK YOU FUCKING CZERKAN RETARD.WHY DID THEY PUT THOSE TWO BOXES IN THE HALLWAY HE'S FUCKING STUCK AGAIN.
>>625390945All roads lead to Gran Soren
More of a (ghost) town but close enough.
>>625407215based, my favourite part of the game
>>625407067Never seen it from that angle before, thanks for that.
I quite like Saint Denis in RDR2
>>625370375Dunwall is the kind of setting I want more games in. Not even more Dishonored games, just different stories and styles of gameplay set in the that city. A slow paced adventure game, an rts game, a simple action fps.My dream game would be something like the gameplay and story of Pathologic 2 but set in Dunwall.
>>625412440Is this Dungeon Siege? I tried that one and I got pissed off at how I couldn't even look at the action, you have to keep your eyes peeled on your parties health bars because they can go down so quickly. Maybe I just suck at arpgs.
I like the starting village more but this is what google gave me.Also fuck the jew who invented webp.

My answer is Balmora but here is a webm of my favourite city "skybox".
does multiplayer count?for me, it's koth_king (and mvm_mannhattan)There's something about these maps. They just make me wonder what is outside the playable areas. I would love to explore a city in the TF2 universe.

>>625379235>>625385864>>625432512YOU HAVE CHANGEDI HAVE CHANGEDJUST LIKE YOUJUST LIKE YOU
>>625379235Color palette aside, what also made it special was the perfect mix of realism and sci-fi. It felt like a real, lived-in city with just the right touch of futurism and utopian glow. In 2007 that's what I imagined cities 2020ish were going to look like.Catalyst fumbles that balance by putting too much sci-fi into the mix (in both style and plot), which retroactively makes the original all the more impressive. Credit where credit is due, Catalyst has a killer score https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pl-7AlC47rI
>>625365208>basic texture works.I could tell it was probably oblivion but jeez anon there's nothing basic about that
>>625457971webp's not working on 4chan is 4chan's fault, not the format's
>>625460030>Credit where credit is due, Catalyst has a killer scoreSolar Fields really pulled the game through as I didn't really enjoy roaming Catalyst's city all that much, it was like walking through a cardboard representation of a city, you could see how it was fake and just a prop, despite their attempt to make it look inhabited, with NPCs and what not. And the City in the original Mirror's Edge felt like a place where people lived, despite the fact that you don't see non-hostile NPCs in the game outside of story related events.
>>625364702metro city
>>625386393Yep, nostalgia time
