and just like that Valve lost, this is the world's first 1080p gaming PC handheld, this is why Valve shouldn't have released the Steam Deck so early, waste of time and money.

Ever hear the expression "throwing good money after bad?" Spending less money on a machine with lower specs is ALWAYS a bad idea in a world where hardware is constantly evolving. You're not a savvy consumer for buying a low-end laptop with a valve sticker on it when it categorically cannot run more demanding games at all.

Probably, but since Valve commissioned a custom SOC they'll want to stick with it for longer to recoup the costs from it.
That's the downside, Valve isn't going to be able to easily do new more powerful revision every year like AYA or GPD who just buy a new laptop chip.

The upside is that while the spin up costs are higher, the per unit costs are much lower, but you have to do Deck style volume for it to make sense.

I've looked into the options, the main three are GPD XD, Samsung Galaxy Fold and the weird ass double screen case for an LG Phone. Let's run them down:
GPD XD is 4 years outdated hardware, however it's design is pretty good. It lacks a second bottom screen, however it has full physical buttons and the case is literally a carbon copy of the 3DS XL which is great. If the chinks made a new one with better performance and a second screen It would be an instant buy.
The weird LG phone is dead and gay cause LG itself is dead and gay, I'm not sure how powerful the phones are, but even if they are decent I doubt I'd have much success finding one.
Samsung Galaxy Fold looks promising but it's a folding screen which will go retarded fast and it's insanely expensive. Even if I got one id have to deal with awful touch controls. I'll give props to the S Pen though, it would make for the perfect stylus for DS Games.
>>
>>598974601

Lord Haven has never been about exclusivity or monopolizing the market. He knew the Steamdeck would push other handhelds on the gaming market which was largely stagnant due to Nintendo's near monopoly. More handheld game consoles means more people buying games, many wanting to add to their Steam library. It's still increasing sales for Valve, even if you buy some chinkshit brand handheld. Considering that they have more control over preventing scalping and the backlog of orders to legitimate Steam accounts is still months long it seems to be working out just fine.
This is also giving them the ability to add features requested by players, fix issues, and get more developers on board with testing for the Deck. All of which is building more hype for the inevitable launch to the general public in time for the holidays in 2023.

They do seem to be cranking units out as fast as they can and the majority of units are winding up in the hands of actual gamers. Imagine if you were having to fight in stores to try to get your hands on one with asshole managers allowing their friends to buy out the entire stock?

What part of this do you think is "Anti-Consumer"?
>>
How are Steamdeck faggots going to cope?
>>
>>598981982
>What part of this do you think is "Anti-Consumer"?
the part where they control who is allowed to buy one, and when, you fucking idiot. Just because you think they're "thE GoOd GuYs" doesn't make it okay
>>
>>598982196
I don't see ow that is anti-consumer. The whole purpose of that is to prevent scalping which is consumer protection.
>>
>>598981595
The OS is great now and the controls always were??
>>
>>598982196
I mean, compared to Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo? I would prefer this, because you actually have a place in the line even if it is 6 months later, it's better than doing a bloodthirsty mad rush to get the consoles every time the consoles have stock at stores where bots scoop them up first during that period of time to possibly get it earlier.
>>
>>598982196
In what way is 'Take a number, you will get your Steam Deck when it is called' unfair or anti-consumer?

Its much more fair that the manager at the local store getting 100 units, selling 99 of them out the back door to his pals to scalp on ebay and then forcing Karens to fight to the death over the one that's left.

controlling who buys your product, how and whether or not they are allowed to return it is literally in contravention of the statutory rights of most EU countries. This is what those fucking lawsuits are about.

>muh RMA
yeah, they reserve the right to refuse those. Literally less warranty than a chinky HKO device
>>
>>598982538
Returns are a completely separate issue.
>>
>>598982442
Also compared to Nvidia and AMD with GPUs. I would have much preferred being able to get into a queue for a RTX 3070 at MSRP months ago.
>>
>>598982196
>the part where they control who is allowed to buy one, and when, you fucking idiot
Just like every other console?
>>
>>598982670
I can walk into any fucking shop I want in my country and buy one without them having ANY of my personal details.
>>
How many of those fukcing thing is there out there??? Isnt there a chip shortage or some shit
>>
>>598982538
>controlling who buys your product
In what way is asking the asshole who wants to cut in line, and buy out all the stock to take a number, go to the back of the line, and that it is limited to 1 per buyer unreasonable?

>whether or not they are allowed to return it
I haven't heard any people having problems getting RMAs. The big problem seems to be theft by delivery services.

>This is what those fucking lawsuits are about.
What lawsuits? The one that just had almost all of its complaints thrown out with the few that are left laughable?
>>
>>598982726
Pretty sure that has more to do with handheld PCs still being too niche for retail stores and production being way lower than consoles rather than Valve not wanting to sell any to them. If we ever get to the point where they've sold like 10 million Decks (lol) and we STILL can't buy them at any stores then I'll agree with you, though.
>>
>>598982743
Valve said they had shipped 'hundreds of thousands' last month.

>Isnt there a chip shortage or some shit
This is the whole reason why Valve sourced a custom SOC and is buying big bulk orders for it, so they can secure the supply. Even if its still pretty small by 'console' standards, its doing crazy numbers for a PC.

We might know more details when the next Steam Survey results come out. Valve claims to have finally fixed the bug that prevented the survey from being presented on Steam Deck (and possibly other GNU/Linux systems).
>>
>>598982726
>I want in my country
Yes, that's right, in your country. And it's console developer who decide where it will be available. For example, Russians can't buy consoles officially.
>without them having ANY of my personal details
You being caught on surveillance cameras, moron, that's worse than paying by gift cards and leaving fake address where you can take your package.
>>
Got my deck in literally a few hours ago, I was not expecting the fan to be as loud as it was simply doing just the setup. Its literally PS4 in summer tier

that's more than likely a governmental restriction, like China.

Holy fucking kek, dude that is fucked. I would at least try to request an RMA even if you think they might reject it, that sounds unbearable. I got one with the "good fan" I guess and even at full blast playing AAA with the speakers off I barely hear it.

Steam deck forced their hand to make something like this.
You either try to get to the deck's price range or you make a much better hardware for the previous price.

That's hella gay bruh. A decent apu in a budget laptop would be nice. Just something that could run older 3d games. The cpu part wouldn't have to be that good.
My current craptop has a 4500u which is more than fine on the cpu side, but the gpu part is ass.

>valve encourages competition in the handheld pc market from the moment deck is announced
>other platforms and manufacturers is part of the long game
The whole fucking point of the deck is to get people to use steam os. That's why valve is selling hardware at a loss. They don't give a fuck who makes the hardware, they want you using the software so they have control of the games marketplace.
Are console war faggots really this stupid?

You know, Nintendo and Apple collabing on a M1 Switch is within the realm of possibility, right? Or Qualcom. Or really, Nvidia would be very much down to design a custom chip for Nintendo if they asked for it.

I don't see how that wouldn't introduce the same problem as switching to AMD. I agree that Nvidia would probably be willing to make something for shitendo if they asked, though.

>>598993338
Would be easier to port Switch stuff to the same architecture than it is to swap it.
