It's a full on sequel and the answer arcs(sotsu) don't air for a few months so its not really fair to compare it yet. I will say it suffers a bit from having to fit each arc into an anime time format instead of each one being 20+ whatever hours like in the vns, but on the whole I love it so far and watching it with /a/ was a blast. It drags a bit in the middle but from about episode 16 on it goes complete batshit. Retards have been calling it a cashgrab but the way the story is going is building on the themes of the original and if it sticks the landing it will be a great bookend for the series.

A lot of the time Shanon and kanon aren't even supposed to be on the island at the same time, the ushiromiya's employ several servants we never meet. The only reason they were both on the island for the family conference is because "they" were the best servants and Natsuhi wanted the conference to go off without a hitch so interfered with Genji's scheduling. Whenever they were both required to be on the island Genji, Nanjo and Kumasawa all worked together to help the illusion, just like they did for Kinzo after he died.

Umineko Episode 1, in a vacuum, is amazing and blows all of his other stuff out of the water, at least once shit hits the fan. The rest of the VN kind of betrays the mystery and tone it sets up, because Ryukishi is bad at writing smart mysteries, but good at making smart looking mysteries.

Battler and Beatrice end up fighting over incredibly dumb things, and any reader who actually tries to solve the mystery like Ryukishi wants them to will get disillusioned once they realize over HALF OF THE VN is Battler arguing semantics with Beatrice to kill time, and the rest is fanservice or padding.

Ciconia has interesting setup and trash payoff, because the ending cuts before it gets good and if you actually buy the VN you get majorly ripped off at 40 bucks for chapter 1 of 4. Seriously?
Like Higurashi, it had better slice of life than drama, but the drama has good moments and I was even unsettled by the factory part.

Unfortunately the ending, cuts off before it can get really gory, so what the fuck was the point?

I agree with the whole 40 dollars for 1 episode part, I thought at first that it was gonna be full price to get the entirety of the VN, thankfully I live in a shithole country and paid the equivalent of 3 dollars for it instead of full price. I thought Ciconia's ending was great tho, don't really see a reason to expect gore to be honest.

However I fucking hated Umineko's 1st chapter, at least everything before shit went down, call me a goat or whatever but I'm in the group of Umineko is snooze for 20~ hours until the halo swords start popping out.

ah yes, because Ryukishi definitely didn't want umineko to have voice acting. Any other brilliant suggestions you want to throw out? Perhaps I should play VTMB without the fan patch that fixes the literal game breaking bugs, after all that wouldn't be playing in it's original state!
