is just a "muh depression" game

>>
>>466203746
It's not really anime at all, just japanese. You play as a girl exploring her dreams, it's very trippy and disturbing. It's SUPER slow and you have to learn to appreciate that if you wanna enjoy it. It's free and easily accessible anywhere on the internet, go get it (but not the steam version, that one is bugged)
>>
>>466203746
Explore some shut-in girl's dreams.
That's literally it. Free on Steam, you could literally be playing it in a minute.
Just try it. You'll know pretty quickly if you don't like it.
>>
>>466204054
You filthy secondary, I bet you only played the disgusting remake.
There are themes of depression in the game, although they are never explicit, but overall it's just dream exploration.

Not OP but imo this game captures the feeling of a dream better than any other game. Not anime at all.
It is a walking simulator though. It's all about the atmosphere. Some people may find it boring. If you play you should do so without a walkthrough for as long as possible. I guarantee you will not finish it without a guide though.

I don't know if it's intentional, but I like the low poly/simple aesthetic. Fits well. Though I think a Doom approach, with sprites moving in "3D" would work even better.

>>466205014
It is in English. There's no real puzzles, you just wander around looking for all of the effects in the different worlds. However, these worlds can be confusing to navigate or are extremely large and easy to get lost in since they loop.
>>
>>466205014
If you're somewhat smart you probably have an easier time remembering paths to places. It's really easy to get lost since maps often loop and don't have many waymarkers. Very few puzzles, if you can even call them that.
And yes.

What were your recent dreams /v/?

Today I dreamed about a flat place. I heard weird screams at one place where many things were. For no reason I tried to jump and stomp the floor afterwards it broke and I dived into the sky. During the fall I heared the screams over and over and then I woke up.
My dreams are weird.

I was back in high school and a fuckton of students with guns surrounded the campus and wouldn't let anyone leave. I saw many students try to escape from secrets routes and get shot. I then realized that there was a pattern to how they rotated i could exploit to escape and using this i run out the front gate and while running I alert one of the patrol guys and they barely miss me like in the movies. it ends with me getting shot in the shoulder and waking up.

1. the game wanted to go towards horror instead of weird/unsettling(not to say .flow doesn't have weird/unsettling). So yeah it can be really tense to play and a bit spooky
2. the game wanted to have a more defined meaning towards it instead of flat out mystery

>>466210268
Since everyone is else swooning over it, I'm gonna be the first to criticize. While soothing, your chord progression is predictable and thus feels flat. Like another anon said, it sounds somewhat like an anime soundtrack, but not in a good way. There's no unique 'style' or flavor to it. You can drop this in whatever game or show and it would probably match.
>>
>>466211740

>>466211741
That's understandable, I don't really have much fundamental knowledge when it comes to making music, so a lot of it is probably based on predictable conclusions. I've been looking into more music theory recently, so I'll try to experiment some more.
>>
>>466212126
>my opinion differs from you, therefore it is baseless and untrue
Do you even hear yourself speaking? Soft piano and string instruments is the definition of generic, especially if there's no interesting melody or chord progression to be found anywhere. I'm not out to hurt musicbro, I want to give him something to think about so he may improve in the future and give us all even better BGM to listen to.

I am kind of glad my precious Yume Nikki did not blow up like how undertale did.

Still it is kind of a shame it does not get the recognition it deserves. It is a mixed feel to be sure.

It's okay. I'm patient. So I'm guessing this is a project beyond RPGmaker in scope, since you have a 3D model. Is that right?

from what I gather LCDDEM looked cute and comfy on the surface but there is one moment that really was a fucking punch in the gut and it sticks with you for a long time. from what this picture is telling me it seems the dev feels ashamed of his work and does not feel like it could be compared with the other big yume nikki fan games so he wanted to be erased which is a shame cause it is amazing in its own right.

>>466218932
No telling what would happen if YN and its ilk became more popular, but I'm pretty happy with the niche following of obscure but really good free/cheap titles that came out because of it's obscure roots. Conversely LSD Dream Emulator became streamer bait but it didn't practically spawn it's own populated genre of games like YN Like RPGs did so maybe recognition isn't everything.

The song that plays when you are on mars depicts that intense feeling of openness and crushing isolation for me. I remember how I would listen to it on repeat and just stare at this image for seemingly hours while just having that sense of dread and loneliness wash over me.

No fuck that, i played it when it wasnt translated and the bitch scared the shit out of me when she walked in off screen
>>
>>466218942
It's about people that move to Mars and contract a disease which manifests shared hallucinations. Certain individuals are inadvertently able to alter the hallucinations through fear, so they're locked away in isolation for public safety; But if they themselves can overcome the fear it becomes usable.

I don't actually know, I want it to be kind of exploration based because frankly I'm weakest with programming. Though there are themes that kind of require some kind of fighting or challenge.

>>466206384
I was on a giant orange/yellow and purple robotic centipede, on top of which lived some civilization. Everyone stayed inside their houses, which were two to three spheres stacked on one another, because robots of similar height to the homes patrolled the streets. I was hiding on the second floor of one of these homes with a group of other people; I turned to see a blonde haired girl that I felt like I knew. She said something to me, she had some kind of responsibility. Then she opened the circular window behind her and jumped out. I watched as she fell down, being caught by the waves of dirt created as the centipede traversed a barren, grey land.
It felt oppressive, like everyone was forced onto this monstrosity to live out their lives for whatever reason.
>>
>>466220795
neat. so that's implies there's some kind of collective unconscious? Sounds pretty unique. So whole communities are walking around with false senses of reality and they all confirm these falsehoods as real bc they all technically see them..
Is the MC (lil girl) one of these ppl who affect the hallucinations? Are there real dangers on Mars?
Sorry if I'm grilling you with questions. Interested is all.

>>
>>466221385

Most people are aware the hallucinations are fake but they still have a visceral reaction to them. They know it's fake but can't control how it makes them feel, so in that regard even the fake dangers are real on mars.

And yeah, the little girl is one of the people who can affect them.
>>
>>466222727

I played this game recently and while I understand the kind of impact it had on every single RPGMaker game after it, I just don't really get it.
Maybe because I played it in a rush or maybe because I hate looping rooms but the game wasn't scary or had any dialogue or direction. Is that the appeal? just getting lost and endlessly exploring every single inch of every room and try random stuff until you find something obscure?
The ending was also disappointing

The abstract atmosphere, unconventional design, and general strangeness are likely its main appeal, so it's not really even designed for everyone, it just kind of is. Playing it in a rush sounds like it could have ruined it for you, though.

It's really not for most people. I liked the concept, but in practice the game was just too dull and didn't provide enough in the way of atmosphere to capture me. The concept is executed impressively well, with the huge amount of levels and interconnectedness, so even after all the fan games it's still one of the best. It just comes down to lack of plot, dialogue, gameplay, or music for me, which is why I prefer RPG Maker games with similar themes, but that have actual combat and puzzles and such. Despite not liking it, I'm still glad it exists.
