So here's something that occurred to me earlier, Neytiri doesn't like Jake at first, calls him Skxwang (moron) and then eventually comes to love him. Neytiri is a Tsundere anime girl like Asuka.

The stream in Cytube was fine for me aside from that weirdness where it kept jumping back a few minutes in the middle. The quality looked fine to me (colours seem less vibrant), I don't really remember the Twitch stream well enough to make an accurate comparison but it doesn't seem to be any significant difference. I had no lagging. No audio issues, dialogue, sound effects, and music were all perfectly audible.

How opposed would you anons be to morphing these threads into James Cameron Kino generals? Open the topic of discussion up to Terminator, Aliens, True Lies, Titanic, The Abyss? Provided we can keep discussion of Terminator and Aliens focused on specifically the James Cameron entries instead of devolving into "Alien is better than Aliens" shitposting.
>>179683124That is a great idea. I support this idea.
>>179683124Very opposed. I'm here only for abatap.

>>179683124Nah. Just let it die when it dies.
>>179683124>>179683283>>179683429The general won't last forever. But if it is rolled into a greater sphere...it could, in a manner of speaking.
>>179683433Here's a list of changes:*Cut opening flyover of forest*Cut extended shot of Jake in his pod (This was basically just for the 3D effect anyway).*Cut all of Jake’s voice over until his first “confessional.”*Cut first shot of Jake’s brother.*Cut small clip inside spaceship with Jake going to his locker.*Cut recruiter’s line about making a lot of money.*Cut stupid lines by soldiers about “fresh meat” and an insult of Jake*Cut guy in robosuit telling Jake to watch out.*Cut the “rules” from Quaritch’s speech.*Cut Norm’s line about the Avatars maturing.*Cut Jake’s last line of first video log.*Cut short Grace’s introduction.*Cut short Grace’s storming out of room and instructions for Jake.*Cut “Unobtanium”*Cut lame discussion of Jake’s brain.*Cut short Jake’s conversation with Quaritch. There’s no mention of his “real” legs.*Cut line by grunt after helicopter lands.*Cut Jake’s first encounter with Pandora wildlife.*Cut almost all of Jake’s taunting.*Completely cut initial conversation between Jake and Neytiri when she goes off about “No thank for this!”*Cut Jake’s foray into the Na’vi’s powwow where nothing happens except him stepping on someone’s tail.*Cut scene of Grace commenting on Jake fleeing from the Panther like thing.*Completely remove the useless subplot that goes nowhere – Norm being jealous of Jake.*Cut mention of unobtanium in briefing room. (I felt this scene was needed since it is the only one that mentions why Home Tree specifically is important).*Cut line about shareholders caring more about bottom line than killing.*Cut Jake being quizzed as he prepares to go back in – eliminating another moment of Norm’s jealousy etc.*Cut bickering about floating mountains – again more pettiness with Norm and Jake.*Cut Trudy’s line about seeing their faces.*Cut Trudy’s line about “Air Pandora.”*Cut Jake’s voiceover about Grace and what she knows, trim shots of photos.
>>179683124>devolving into "Alien is better than Aliens" shitpostingthat's exactly what would happen
>>179683531*Several cuts to montage of Jake training – talks of flow of energy, and spirits of animals, etc.*Couple cuts to Jake’s battle with Banshee for continuity purposes, removal of Tsu’tey laughing when he falls, and Jake’s taunt to the Banshee when he finally gets him.*Small cut of flying sequence*Cut more of Jake’s voiceover (pretty much everything throughout the rest of the movie that can’t be attributed to him doing his video logs).*Cut part of Jake’s talk with Quaritch when he tells him he’s got approval to get his legs for him.*Cut Grace’s objections to Tsu’tey going to battle.*Heavily trim of argument scene on the bridge. Removed much of Grace’s lines, specifically about the “wealth of this world.”*Also cut Grace’s dog line and Quaritch’s mocking Jake.*Cut scene of Jake saying “This is how it’s done!”*Cut Jake’s line about falling in love with the forest.*Cuts to home tree attack – No Trudy, fewer shots of Quaritch, “Get some”, fixed a few inconsistent shots.*Remove Trudy calling Jake/Norm/Grace Treehuggers.*Cut a Trudy’s response to Grace being shot, and trimmed part of Jake and Grace being flown away in the station.*Cut shot of Na’vi gathering w/Jake’s voice over.*Cut Neytiri’s talk of her fear.*Shorten gathering of tribes (By far my least favorite cut in this edit – done to remove Jake’s voice over).*Trimming of Quaritch’s briefing to eliminate “terror with terror” line as well as stupid shots and reactions of soldiers.*Cut “Shock and Awe” line and Trudy wanting to avoid martyrdom.*HEAVILY cut Jake’s prayer to Eywa. No more yapping about killing our mother.*Trim takeoff scene to eliminate idiots cheering in the background.
>>179678906Are there any official height and anatomy comparison charts?
>>179683473>The general won't last forever. But if it is rolled into a greater sphere...it couldThis was my thinking in proposing the idea. /TV/ is a fucking hole, but /avtr/ is supremely comfy and I love being in these threads. I'm curious to see how long we can keep them going, even if the form changes.
>>179683576*Lots of trims during final battle: Many shots of guys in cockpits, shots of soldiers being pumped, Neytiri’s war cry, Jake telling Tsu’tey to follow him, more “get some!”, shortened Trudy’s “success” against Quaritch, Jake calling out to everyone, the “get some” guy’s expression during death, “That’s an order”, old spirit Na’vi staring up, etc.*Cut Quaritch’s comments about Jake betraying his race and being one of them.*Cut Quaritch’s dying expression close up.*Small cut of humans marching into ships to go home.*Added “recycled” to the title.*Other various small cuts.I can understand some of these cuts, but you cut out some of the best lines including GITSUM. Fuck off.
>>179683608When the last few generals begin to crawl languidly as they are dying, gasping those final breaths, you'll just need to make it and see what happens. The injection of additional Cameron content might rejuvenate it. And Avabros will no doubt contribute to keeping that alive.
The eye work in TWOW is so much better than the first film.
>>179683531>>179683576>>179683679All of these cuts are terrible.
So, what is Disney going to do now that it seems like this is the only franchise they own that they haven't run into the ground yet? Do they even consider it one of their "franchise" or does Cameron just has a lot more control over it?
>>179683752I don't think it looks that much better, at least not 13 years worth. Avatar is already great, and the parts that did look bad looked bad on arrival.
nice pictoo bad can't have it without the stuff in front of it
>>179683856Expect a hundred spin-offs
>>179681040>best sound designPlease clap.
>>179683856>>179683856Cameron has pretty much total control and won't allow anyone to do shit until he is done with it as a director
>>179683998I wouldn't mind more stuff dealing with the Cyberpunk/Bladerunner like earth, even better if its animated.
>>179683856Disney doesn't even own it, they just have distribution rights. The MCU is basically the only thing Disney has going for them now, which is probably why they're trying to get Alien off the ground again with that terrible idea for a TV show.
>>179683856Disney doesn't own Avatar, they have exclusive rights to distribute it (via the purchase of 20th Century) but everything else has to be licensed from Cameron/Lightstorm
>>179679069Nope, but there's a chance one of the sequels will, the academy awarded the LOTR films with a best picture to the third entry in its trilogy and both Avatar films have been nominated so if trends continue it would be an upset if the third Avatar wasn't at least nominated for best picture. In a better world the fist Avatar should have won best picture, it was absolutely the best film on the nomination list of 2009 but was robbed by The Hurt Locker, a movie that critics who say dumb things about Avatar like 'no one remembers it' can remember themselves, a movie that better exemplifies having no cultural relevancy that Avatar supposedly has.
>>179684215Spin-offs suck ass
>>179684781LotR was a different beast critically back then. It was making the list every year when there were only 5 entries. Avatar was nominated in the first year they introduced 10 slots for BP, probably because there some fallout about the Dark Knight not getting a nom the previous year and they wanted to expand the interest to include really popular blockbusters to gain viewership. I don't see them giving Avatar an oscar, if any film would've done it would be the first because that shook up the industry so much.
>>179679069>>179684781More to the point, I don't think Hollywood are willing to acknowledge how genuinely good TWOW is. They can praise it as a technical achievement, but they absolutely cannot admit publicly that a film like this, that refuses to play the same game that the rest of the films in Hollywood are currently playing, is not only good, but that it's resonating with audiences that way it is.That's why the same comment of "how is TWOW making this much money? Who is even going to see this?" keep cropping up, because the answer is "the average person who wants to see a film that is crafted with skill and care, and that resonates on a level that connects with true universal emotions, like love, family, the relationship of parent and child, actively wanting to fit in, resistance to invasion by foreigners" not Hollywood's very narrow California based post-modern mentality of empathy as social currency and performative wokeness.

Avatar's military technology is fucking dumb.>uses slow subsonic aircraft that allows native flora to overtake them>both ground armor and VTOLs have weak glass canopies that are easily punctured by fucking arrows>armored vehicles is not fully inclosed with metal allowing native weaponry to easily take it down>doesn’t engage in strategic bombing with air vehicles far above the flying limit of native flora nor uses ballistic missiles to attack strategic targets at more than Mach 5>does this again with no modifications to vehicles or any kind of adaptation at all to native insurgency tactics>does not use an ICBM to saturate nuke the Hallelujah Mountains of native headquarters or even use conventional thermobarics/napalmWhy is this military so inept? Even the modern American military’s current equipment would be far better at killing Na’vi than what they use. Yet because they have “cool looking” VTOLs/mechs they have a “futuristic” military? I wonder if they have tribal teachers or if the parents are just expected to teach basic arithmetic and so on. neytiri did attend a human school so she would know shit like that. anyway it’s just autism
>>179704190IQ isn't generated by the school system it's genetics

>>179704674Dabbed on by peasantry, classic modern wagie moment
>>179704753So what's life on Pandora like?
>>179704784I never played this was it any good?
>>179704190nah, the na've people are actually really smart but they made a promise centuries ago to never use eywa's minerals to build anything of significance
>>179704801It's one of my favorite games from the past ten years
>>179704864The solution is simple: we kill the Ey'wa.
>>179704864I noticed this rewatching the first one. So mo’at is basically a priestess who “interprets the will of eywa”. Does that mean the na’vi clergy came up with the rules or intuited them? Is this a universal thing or was it just the forest tribe who said this? There’s clearly some sort of organised religious structure to their society but it doesn’t get explored.
>>179704875skydemons are probably going to attempt that in the coming films. it would be a twist if they were actually successful and the na’vi have to operate without eywa. because since kiri is basically eywa, she is there as a way for her to come back after the humans are defeated
>>179704915its actually part of the avatar lore that na'vi should never advance beyond what they are now
>>179705034this makes eywa sound quite sinister
>>179704651Be a giant blue gigachad. Neytiri loves to brag about how hard he fucks her
>>179704944What would be a lot cooler is if they duplicated Eywa with those neural imprint crystals, killed the biological one, and held the backed up souls of their dead hostage in exchange for cooperation.
>>179705034ok but that’s not what I was saying. did the priesthood come up with these laws? since they interpret eywas will (i’m guessing eywa doesn’t speak to people directly) i’m assuming they passed the laws down. but in that case they wouldn’t be universal across the entire planet
>>179678906>$32 dollarydoos for a 3D ticket. Sorry. I genuinely was going to go solo but thats too much. I'll watch it for free on my 50" TV. They made me pirate it.
>>179705166jesus it was £10 for me. I don’t blame you >>179705159I don’t think the human tech works like eywa. jake genuinely had his consciousness transferred, quaritch is a clone
>>179703582I was kind of worried about side effects but the last one>in rare cases: deathmade me laugh, yeah thankfully I didnt seem to get any dramatic after effects
>>179705166i paid 48 dollars to watch it in a recliner and a further 40 for a waitress to bring me fries and a chocolate ice cream sundae half way through the movie
>>179705197>I don’t think the human tech works like eywa. jake genuinely had his consciousness transferred, quaritch is a cloneThe supplementary material says that minds and memories can be duplicated as a form of digital immortality, which is why the clone Quarritch has any continuity of existence. This patterning is presumably duplicated in Eywa, and should be possible to copy with enough equipment plugged in.
How did it cost so much?
>>179705034if jake could get the omatikaya to disobey the 3rd law then the ash na'vi must have huge stone pyramids
>>179705252Visual effects don't generate themselves for free.
>>179705270And it was good
>>179705246>quaritch has continuity of experienceI mean he literally doesn’t. He doesn’t have any memories of the events that occurred after he went on the final mission, hence them needing to show him reacting to a video of his death to know neytiri killed him. He even says he’s not the same man because he isn’t. The actual quaritch died and his conscious experience ended.
>>179705244You could have had sex (for the first time) for that same amount of money. How does that make you feel?
>>179705165i believe these laws can easily be understood by every na'vi living on pandora since they pretty much use their queue to plug into nature all the time, and through that, eywa's messages can be transfered into their brains quite quickly
>>179705337based kino > s*x
>>179705034I'm going to bet money that the big secret of Eywa and the biosphere of Pandora is that it's engineered. The Na'vi used to be a lot more advanced, but a neo-tribalist, techno-regressive regime seized power and forced their society to Return to Monke. The engineers of this system created Eywa as a safeguard against alien invasion and to maintain the status quo.>>179705288Continuity up to the last backup point is what I meant. There is continuity of existence up until that point. It would not surprise me if he plugged in a backup of the Quarritch that died on Pandora that makes him inherit a much more comprehensive set of memories and drive later on.
>>179705304would those messages come in the form of dialogue like the ten commandments though? or would they just intuitively “understand” them? it makes less sense when you consider one of the laws is “don’t invent wheels”. they wouldn’t even have a word for one, and telling them not to make them would require explaining what one is in the first place. how would eywa do that? i’m honestly starting to think this ash tribe or whatever used advanced technology to wage war in the “time of great sorrow” and that the na’vi came up with the laws and attributed them to eywa
>>179705354I know what you’re saying but there is no conscious continuity. Imagine if I replicated your body and mind right now. If one of you ate and the other didn’t, would the one who didn’t eat not get hungry? Logically, he would get hungry, because despite the fact that the originating mental states and physiology of the copy is identical, it is still having a separate and unique subjective experience and is therefore a different person. Jake had his mind transferred directly into the avatar, it’s not a copy of him. If humans were capable of that the amarita would be pointless as a resource.
>>179681190that's like saying a dry turd is better tasting than a fresh one
>>179705413This is a philosophical debate at this point; I don't think there's a right or wrong answer about whether or not a duplicate can be considered to be a continuity of existence or not, but we obviously lean on either side of that debate. Direct consciousness transfer like Jake experiences is the superior option, but a clone with duplicated memories is, in my opinion, good enough for me.
you are all clones
>>179705360>Thou shalt not use wheels>what’s a wheel, eywa,>oh, it’s a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground. you can use them to mill grain or to operate pulleys. but yeah don’t do that ok?
>>179705521Hey Quaritch, I'm Quaritch
>>179705521why am I still a virgin then
>>179705360yeah idki think eywa is like their religion, and because its so old, they just accept it and are reward by perfect weatheri mean, they live on a planet where it never seems to rain or snow or have any sort of traumatic weather of any kindlisten to eywa and you get to live in paradisefuck up and you'll live in shitty snow storm
>>179705552hello Quaritch and Quaritch, I am also Quaritch
>>179705544>mo’at, did I ever tell you about wheels? they were a circular component that is intended to rotate on an axle bearing. The wheel is one of the key components of the wheel and axle which is one of the six simple machines. Wheels, in conjunction with axles, allow heavy objects to be moved easily facilitating movement or transportation while supporting a load, or performing labor in machines. Wheels are also used for other purposes, such as a ship's wheel, steering wheel, potter's wheel, and flywheel. Common examples are found in transport applications. A wheel reduces friction by facilitating motion by rolling together with the use of axles. In order for wheels to rotate, a moment needs to be applied to the wheel about its axis, either by way of gravity or by the application of another external force or torque. Using the wheel, Sumerians invented a device that spins clay as a potter shapes it into the desired object. Anyway, you shouldn’t invent the useful thing i’ve just had to describe to you in detail, and which you would have never known about had I not just told you. they were a bad friend
>>179705630>hes like a baby
>>179705580It does rain on pandora and we see it a few times. Every single raining scene is actually very cosy. But anyway yeah, it doesn’t really make sense when you think about how these laws were created or transferred, except if they were made up by the na’vi in response to seeing technology used.
>>179705663Cute. Hoping for more moments like this in the coming films.
>>179705271they also didnt put 400 million in ads.
>>179705697yeah, but wouldnt the spirits of the dead na'vis that died before the first songs just straight up a tell the living na'vis, through their queues, that technology was used at some point?
>quick, how can we make the ozzie even slimier?>oh I know
>>179705354so two factions in the beginning have a war and one fucks off to the stars ends up at earth give up tech but billions of years later invent tech again and find pandora where the Navi see people braking all the rules
>>179705252The budget was like $400 million. A film's break even point is twice its budget at minimum, and it doesn't start making the studio a profit until it's made like 5 times its budget back.
if you plugged into eywa, wouldnt you be able to see pyramids and other crazy shit that was built eons ago?
>>179705885It did cross my mind, but I'm not sure it's all that likely that Na'vi and humans are ultimately descendants of the same species. But seriously>"Naturally occurring" carbon fiber in their bones>"Biological computational neural network safeguarding the planet>The Na'vi are biologically divergent from quite literally every other species on the planetZero percent chance this happened naturally.
The Navi are Avatars them selves
>>179705941whats wrong with natural carbon fiber? their atmosphere is denser with carbon than Earth's
>>179705817maybe that’s where the laws come from? the scary thing is they may never expand on or explain any of this shit
>>179705988Earth has a long history of having greater and lesser concentrations of carbon dioxide in its atmosphere. The synthesis paths to forming carbon chains tend to all involve a lot of heat and pressure in a low oxygen environment. There's basically no way for this to happen in an organism through dumb luck of entropy and random chance.
early nueue bread>>179706005>>179706005>>179706005
>>179705944truemy current meat body is my avatarcant wait to see what my next one is, desu*cross fingersplease dont let me be reborn as a maggot squirming inside the belly of a dead squirrel!!!
>>179705901I don’t know if the mind sharing works like that. I doubt when jake fuggs neytiri he’s literally seeing through her eyes but is moreso just mentally and physically in tune with her. I’ve just remembered something interesting though. When jake and neytiri visit neteyam, the environment is constructed out of jake and his memories, and neytiri seems present in a memory she never had, so I guess yeah, they would be able to do that. Unless what we see as the audience is non literal. Also, has anyone commented on what the background changes to when kiri talks to grace? It looks like a huge stone cathedral with vaulted ceilings. What the fuck was that all about?
>>179706029eh I wouldnt know evolutionary carbon fiber logic, but one could argue Pandora being dense in carbon for longer may have given the Na'vi and potentially other creature more time for a mutation to take place which would then be either dominant or otherwise selectively survive over regular bones
>>179706078>It looks like a huge stone cathedral with vaulted ceilings. What the fuck was that all about?never caught that any pics
>>179706122Still dubious, and I think Cameron's enough of a hack to make the point that "one day, we too could make this kind of paradise, if we chose to, and the alternative is the hellscape that humans are living in."
>>179706153I don’t have any but it’s when she shifts into avatar grace, i’ll get a camrip and screenshot it if nobody else dow s
>>179706029>There's basically no way for this to happen in an organism through dumb luck of entropy and random chance.yeah i see what youre saying but you run into creation's dilemma, which is, who created the creator?
>>179706155>this is what they took from you
>>179706202Themselves? If you assume the Na'vi were, at one point, extremely technologically advanced, it makes perfect sense that the species that they are was created by the species that they once were. The whole mind transfer thing that Jake does with his Avatar body says that it's possible that the progenitor species transferred their minds to their new, Na'vi bodies as a last act.
>>179706234totally missed that.
>>179706253Well duh, it's a hamfisted metaphor, so of course everything on future Earth is going to be peak "wow, this fucking sucks."
>>179706275>everything on future Earth is going to be peak "wow, this fucking sucks."just like real life future earth then. 5000000 niggers on every street
>>179706234Isn't that just the interior of Hometree? There's a structure looking like root spiral staircase in the background
>>179706317Well now you've got me curious: are you simply oblivious the fact that they're playing up the black actors as Na'vi, or just ignoring it?
>>179706258yeah, but they used eywa to do the mind transfer, meaning, eywa predates the species that transferred their souls into na've meat bodies
>>179706328that kind of what I thought, found the slightly less cropped img
>>179706351This is a non-sequitur. If the species that created their new bodies also created Eywa, it's only a requirement that Eywa is created prior to conscience transfer.
>>179706379how the hell did they create eywa?
>>179706407By being incredibly technologically advanced in the biological sciences? It's one of the prevailing themes that humans can do mad shit with biology -- just look at Recoms -- but lean towards doing things with machines. There's no reason to believe that it's not possible to synthetically engineer an organism that functions as Eywa does.
>>179706343the na’vi are blue space aliens and not niggers. earths real life future is a communist mutt hellscape. the na’vi future is just the na’vi oresent
>>179706407with biotech retard it's not that hard to imagine.
>>179706434it still doesnt make any sense as to why a superior species would want to dumb themselves down by transferring their consciousness into a body that cant keep up with their 300 IQ minds
>>179706520Imagine if your entire civilization views technology as the bringer of evil, and that the only way you can live in a good and peaceful world is by living without technology. If your society believes that, such actions make sense.
>>179706557Remember, I'm just trying to work this out from a hypothetical point of view. I think that's a stupid, asinine way of doing things, and regression in everything from basic education to any good and noble curiosity about the universe gets sent to the slaughter and it would be a terrible idea to do this.
>>179706520With knowledge comes sorrow
>>179706520they agreed to do it as a species because they killed their original planet through pollution and nuclear war
>>179706557circling back to a set of beliefs is just a religion at this point
>>179706603you ever see that movie Johnny Mnemonic where keanu's character downloads too much information in his head?
>>179706328It is the inside of Hometree, you can barely see the vaulted celling's in the first Avatar but you can see them and it looks exactly like that dream Kiri has and you can also see the spiral staircase where many dramatic moments happened to Jake in front of the clan like where he's first introduced to them and when he tells them he knew the humans would come and destroy Hometree,
