If you look at the evil wizard in Farscape as a rogue ascended being (or evan an Ori) and the interdimensional wormhole keepers as normal ascended beings it kind of works. What kills it though is that in Farscape the existence of alien life is made open to the public after John & co. land on earth in the early 2000's. In the SG-verse that remains a closely guarded secret throughout the run of all 3 shows.

There was no such episode. Cassandra had a bomb in her and they put her in a missile silo to go boom. Sam stays with her to boom together but she was far enough away from the gate to not go boom. She pops up in a few other eps as the adopted daughter of Doc Frasier.

You might be thinking of some serf a Russian team bring back to the SGC, he melts in the SGC. The Goa'uld responsible in both instances was Nirti.

S7 was planned to be the real ending.
S8 was rushed into production at the last moment at the execs's request to accompany Atlantis, and was planned to be the real real ending, but the execs said fuck it we want more.
S10 was not really planned to be the real real real ending, because even without a 11th season they secured the DVD movies as a backup plan.
Continuum was NEVER planned to be the real real real real ending, so of course it became exactly that.

I thought Space Race was kino in that it was one of the only times a civilization felt fleshed out and believable.
SG1 should've moved to a larger-scale political type show with fewer new planets and just focusing on depicting the interactions with the major players
like DS9 compared to TNG

No they didn’t. The ori just never had time to play out correctly. They were truly a way bigger threat than the gould ever could be but since they had to be introduced and killed off in 2 season they never got to be a real threat. So they feel like a flash in the pan

series should've had Earth disclosure about the stargate program to the public and focused on Earth expanding and beginning to colonize new worlds and the issues it would face doing so
Ba'al could've seen the way the galaxy was changing and gone along his route of being some secret Earth tycoon leading the expansion of Earth and staking out a claim only revealing himself later on by which time he's too ingratiated with politicians and business for anyone in the SGC to do anything
>>

>a brand new galactic threat.
I guess that since the show had escaped cancellation so many times and Atlantis was doing well they thought they could do a complete soft reboot instead of merely replacing a Goold with another once more.
it's true that the Ori literally came out of nowhere though. at least the Replicator menace had been built up for years before S8.
>>
>>177165702
Nah. Ori are just straight up garbage. They're a wall of flames a galaxy away, that are never shown doing anything. They interact with the world through shitty minions that are all copy-paste versions of each other. Jaffa First Primes for one off Goa'uld were more charismatic and fun than Priors. Priors and Ori are charisma and personality vacuums compared to Jaffa and Goa'uld, even total nothing burgers like Sokar was more visually interesting and showed more personality/individuality.

The best Goa'uld villains had personal beef with the cast. Cronus killed Teal'c's father. Osiris' host was Jackson's ex, Amunet was his wife. Klorel was Skaara, Jack's kinda adoptive son. Apophis personally fucked with SG1 multiple times, same with Ba'al. The villains were personally engaged with the heroes. The Ori just acted through minions, it is lame as fuck in comparison.
>>
>>177166450
They tried to fix that by introducing Adria, but it didn't really work.
>>
>>177166450
Also. I've always been half convinced the only people that actually liked the Ori were Bible thumping Burgers that liked the deus vult galactic crusade shit. Only someone that actually likes listening to Bible verses could enjoy watching Priors quoting their stupid book in every scene they're in.

>reads like a fanfiction.net self insert Mary Sue
that's how she was when she is introduced and in early S9 but once she becomes a regular in S10 they did a 180 on her and she becomes basically the most useless member of the team. she's literally only there to serve as a bait for Adria or to work as a mere assistant to the actual Gary Stu MC, Daniel, which is vanquishing the Ori all by himself.
>>
>>177166450
The ori were evil ancients literally gods for all intents and purposes making them an actual foil.

The Gould were easily provable liars and literal parasites. The Ori could be reasonably argued to be gods
>>
>>177166450
I agree with what you're saying and I liked how personal the Goa'uld were. However I think the fact that the Ori armies and priors were pretty much just copy pasted zealots with little to no personality was part of what made them appealing and scary.

Literally the only reason I forced myself to sit through S9/10, she was ridiculously hot desu.
Ben Browder is actually the strong point of the Orishit, he really put the effort into all the character development and action scenes. Shanks phones it in, General Boring is boring except when he's evil President in an alternate universe, hapa Doctor is not in enough episodes and Teal'C is ok. Carter is missing half the time (I think she was either pregnant or just had a kid). Can't stand that bignose Farscape slag, totally unattractive, too old and annoying.
Oh and lets not forget the godawful cgi dragon, fucking Lawnmower Man tier.
I agree partially with >>177165951, I think a Jaffer democracy going to shit with different factions politicking and backstabbing would be kino. Lucian dudes never impressed me, after gods and replicators, space gangsters are kind of lame.

Tomin was nice precisely because he was a true believer of invisible gods, whereas most First Primes acted more like military subordinates than religious zealots. the whole religious aspect of the Goau'lds was almost forgotten right after S1 outside of people calling them "gods". in practice they were too often shown as generals, not as gods.

>>
>>177167233
I think that's why so many people were confused when Stargate SG-1 suddenly became again a show about religion in S9.
after S1 we never saw a human or Jaffa civilian planet on the like of Abydos, inhabitated by people who actually pray to the Goau'lds. we only saw regular soldier Jaffas, opponents constantly claiming they're false Gods, or freed planets that considered them as an ancient religion.
>>
>>177167233
we rarely see the dynamics of the Jaffa vs. regular humans in the Goa'uld hierarchy. In general we do not see much of the Goa'uld worlds and society and the worlds we do see are usually treated like outposts, like Chulak even despite being Apophis's home world
it's mostly a budget issue trying to depict a wider culture but in general the show failed to do it when they could have done more

Thinking about it, did we ever see SG-1 go to a planet where the Goa'uld were truly worshipped? Most worlds they go to doesn't even seem to be aware of them
>>
>>177167411
>They could have really explored the religious and faith aspect, and the moral conflicts with Adria and her relationship with her mother turning her and Tomin
again, they did all of that before and inbetween LE GRAIL QUEST. it's mostly in S9, only then they understood it's pointless and switched to the Grail. but they also insist on the fact that using the Grail to destroy the Ori would NOT stop people from believing in them. this is something that was completely ignored with the Goau'ld.
in the end they also had to resort to LE ANCIENT BRAINWASHING MACHINE to deal with that too, but that's mostly because the show was cancelled too early and the producers had no time to do otherwise.
>>
>>177167063
The entire depicton of Goa'uld divinity is ridiculously wrong and the arguments used on the show against them are stupid. Gods for ancient people weren't like the Abrahamic God. Ancient Gods were fallible, they often required tools or weapons to use their divine power and they were often mortal. When the SGC kills a Goa'uld it really shouldn't be a "oh shit my entire faith has been misplaced" moment for Jaffa or human slaves. The entire mythology/religious scripture/oral tradition of these people should be full of stories of their God destroying other Gods. The Jaffa fight one another to assist their God destroy rival Gods, the fact that Gods die really shouldn't be an issue for these people.

Always makes me mad when Daniel debunks the Goolds with nonsense based on an Abrahamic understanding of God.
>>
>>177167788
Adding Arthurian myths into Stargate was great. The concept itself that is. Arturian lore and the Celtic Ulster cycle were heavily underrepresented in Stargate.
>>
>>177167871
I agree. It's a typical western normalfag viewpoint to view gods as this intangible omnipotent force beyond human comprehension.
>>
>>177168005
>>177167871
That’s why the ori would be a better long term villain for sg1 but they didn’t have the time
>>
>>177161848
well they are only tight with the movies.
you can license stargate games for less than 50 grand and people have been pestering firaxis for a stargate xcom game for years now.
>>
>>177168084
That's what you got from the conversation? If anything it means that the Goa'uld could've been even more interesting villains if the writing had put more focus on the religious and political aspect rather than just the military one.
>>
>>177167704
they did in S1 and S2 when the fillers often had a Star Trek TOS vibe
>the episode where a long-gone Goau'ld make everybody die after 100 days, but they're all persuaded it's a gift.
>the episode where Teal'c returns to Chulak and must deal with the consequences of being a sholva
>the Hathor episode (though it was brainwashing)
>the Seth episode (though it was brainwashing)
>the episode where Riyac becomes an Apophis zealot (though it was brainwashing)
>the episode about the Ascension and Keb being part of the core Jaffa beliefs
also related to religion but no the Goau'lds
>the episode where a SG team leader becomes the God of a bunch of a primitive tribe
>the episode about the benevolent gods Asgard that are NOT shown
>the Indian spirits episode (this one was weird as fuck)
>the sole Christian planet episode
>>
>>177168218
>>the episode where a SG team leader becomes the God of a bunch of a primitive tribe
I wonder if that's what inspired them to write Lucius Lavin in SGA
>>
>>177168084
They could have done a Fair Game type scenario where Earth was safe but leaving room for shenanigans. Stargate always shit the bed eventually with its villains, it doesn't have to be all or nothing stakes all the time. Trek has different powers like the Romulans who are always present and hostile but not overtly so. Obviously that got ruined too when JewJew came along with his planet exploding fetish.
>>
>>177168163
Yeah that’s what I got because an abrahamic style villain that on the surface is a decent moral practice would be better commentary in modern America than pagan monsters that are overtly evil and repressive to their populations
>>
>>177168218
>>the episode where a SG team leader becomes the God of a bunch of a primitive tribe
this was kino and SG1 should've let him be to build the tribes people into some bronze age society
>>
>>177168258
Except we don't want some fucking real life commentary. We want a good fictional story. The Ori were good for what they were but the Goa'uld could've been fleshed out way more.
>>
>>177168084
lol, lmao

No matter their faults the Goa'uld btfo of the Ori (Priors) as villains with the simple fact that they aren't all wearing the same lame costume. Ignoring a couple of exceptions and that basic Jaffa gear is the same for all of them, every Goa'uld has their own costume and symbol. Their aesthetics are diverse individually but uniform as a group.

Dressing better makes them better. Simple as.

>>
>>177167871
it was common for ancient peoples to abandon their god in favor of the conqueror's god, because if the conqueror won that means their god is stronger than ours so he's more worthy of devotion.
in fact the biggest innovation of the Abrahamic religion was to turn over the argument completely and claim that the conqueror won because you did not pray the one true God enough so he punished you, and now you have to pray him even more.
archeology shows that Israel was still a mostly polytheistic society right until the Babylonian invasion. it's only after that invasion that the priests invented the divine retribution as a massive cope and made monotheism a golden rule.

For how important part of lore he was. Surprisingly small part in sg1.
Just write he was also half-ascended like anubis. But instead becoming energy being. He chose to stay as mortal. And use understanding he acquired to create copy of himself.
Jackson and papa Carter travel to planet that has no stargate. But was in one of maps from Ra pyramids in planets he owned. There they find big pyramid where Ra has buried himself with army of jaffa. Knowing full well if anubis came back. He would make his first move to kill Ra. If he succeed. Sooner or later someone would come to look what Ra had hidden. That would aweken whole pyramid and Ra would live again and sail to fight anubis.

Someone posted Dark Matter in an SG thread a week or so ago. I've started watching the first season and it's alright but not very interesting so far. Does it get better? It doesn't feel much like Stargate at all. I'm at episode 8 now.
>>
>>177171644

unfortunately no.
i had high hopes to since the stargate writers worked on it but it turned out more like star gate universe and season 1 is the best it gets. it takes a sharp downturn in quality after the fist season in almost every aspect.
honestly the best you can do is watch only season 1 and then drop it.
you could unironically watch stargate infinity instead. its actually a decent show.

They did by Atlantis that’s what the puddle jumpers and darts were

And in season 8-10 they had the ori shoot self propelled gate sections through to build a super gate

It was a concept that either they didn’t think of until the end or that they didn’t have the budget/cgi for till the later seasons

She has always been highly competent at lying & getting away with it. She has no other skills outside of that & a bit of combat experience which, let's face it, even Jackson has. She was meant to be annoying to Daniel & endearing to the audience. More than likely you are autistic & so find her frustrating to deal with because the bare social skills you have are useless with her.

They need to make her relevant to the plot after the bracelets wear off so they make her Adria's mom. They need to give her a background so they give her a lying con artist dad & make her formally possessed by a goa'uld to make her sympathetic & explain her skill set.

Not that other anon, but I wasn't terribly disappointed with the rest of the show. The main problem was that they couldn't decide if they wanted to go full bore into a dark mytharc or stick to one off trek style sci fi storytelling. They desperately wanted their characters to be badass but they rarely did anything really badass. By the time it ended everyone knew who they were and how they'd ended up on the ship, but they end up subverting all the character development we get during the run. All the characters' main traits are completely the opposite of what their main personality was before the memory wipe. There were a few neat moments every season but altogether it just didn't gel the way Stargate did. Even though I liked it overall, the cliffhanger ending it ends on sets up something that seemed like it would've been a darker, better, but overall entirely different show.
>>
>>177173544
they're both.
you compare it with modern-day islam, but the Ori still have a messiah born with immaculate conception and their book is not centered on a single prophet.

the writers coped out of the atheism accusation by including a scene early in S9 where they say that the existence of ascended beings doesn't mean there's no higher Supreme God. they also almost break the fourth wall to say that they only condemn the acts of the believers and not their beliefs.
but if by "atheist" you mean anti-Christian then yeah, the whole secret history of Earth and humans having been artificially created directly contradicts the Bible, but they take care to never point it out loud. in this sense it's no more atheist than any show making references to evolution.
in fact way before having created the Ancients they already had Hammond making a reference to evolution in the pilot episode. it was clear from the beginning that this wasn't a typical conservative American show, but again they never overtly criticized Christianity or Christians. it was simply deliberately never mentioned.

He said he had real problems as a gay man because he wasn't masculine enough to attract other gay men. They told him he was too feminine. Juice and a tattoo shop fixed that.

You're the one who're attempting to associate me with awful things like that. I'm an Arab with a Syrian family myself and have grown up knowing what actual racism feels like but what you're doing right now is just nasty and evil. It doesn't help raising awareness, it just breeds more content.

I realize. I don't fit in in this shithole because it puts more value on braindead memes and doctored images than actually communicating like a human being, but it's still infuriating when anons choose to support grifters by adopting their dogwhistles.

I still haven't got around Dark Matter. I watched Killjoys instead. It has the kind of humorous tone Stargate had but it lost the plot. I think I saw Robert C. Cooper as a writer's credit a couple of times.

It's painfull to rewatch sg1&sga and see it going from kino to a few episodes in between a lot of "what the fuck is this?"
SG1 with the ori was really hard to watch at the end.
Still, stargate is my favorite scfi franchise and i fear the rumors about a reboot raping my childhood favorite show.

he has a youtube channel where he teaches his kids about tech stuff and plays vidya with them. they do things like build robots and program them or do minecraft stuff.
he said when he did his role in atlantis he actually was not that tech savy or into science at all but the role caused him to look into that direction and learn more about technology.
also does some vidya stuff and a podcast called tech bandits.

One of the better later episodes. Jackson slowly losing his shit trying not to be a terrorist and just terrorizing everyone was top tier.

this was stupid. the Hammond has Asgard rays that could destroy a hive ship in two blows. those Ha'taks should have been wiped out already.
also they put jammer insed the base to prevent people from beaming in, but they can't turn them off in case of emergency. this is literally the first time in the franchise somebody can not just be safely beamed away.

The power creep was ridiculous and didn't even make sense. Ha'tak were an annoyance to regular Asgard ships, Anubis upgrades put their shields on par with older Asgard ships and Replicator modifications would put them on par with top tier Asgard ships. The huge fleet of Ha'tak around Dakara should have been the combined result of the best Goa'uld, Ancient/Asgard (Anubis) and Replicator technology blended together.

If the Asgard upgrades allowed them to two shot Ori ships it begs the question why the Asgard themselves didn't yeet all the Ori when they have an entire fucking fleet and no replicators to worry about.
