What was being a ninja fan in 80-90's was like, with the considerable amount of games and movies about them?
Before Naruto took the world by storm and changed their image forever

from what i can vaguely recall it was pretty sick and there was tons to draw inspiration from. Scorpion is a good example, along with Hayabusa, (as odd as it may seem) The Foot Clan. My personal favorite is picrel

it was widely held wisdom at the time that part of growing up was realizing you would never be a ninja. this was before social media, a stupid picture of you playing dress-up meant nothing.
>>

I hung out with a group of black kids around 1999 that wanted to be real ninjas, but instead they settled for being the quietest pickpockets in town. They even taught me how to do it. IMO it kind of sucked once you got past the little kid stage. Yeah, ninja turtles were cool, and 3 Ninjas and stuff like that if you were young and just wanted to throw kicks in the backyard, but because ninjas were a fad they got slapped into a ton of stuff that was shallow trash. I don't remember any ninjas stuff that was actually awesome during that era other than Tenchu for the PS1. And the real ninja martial arts movies were still the original foreign films that kicked it all off. We didn't get any new martial arts masterpieces in general, the serious stuff was already moving on to kickboxing and stunts instead of classic ninjas stuff.

Mortal Kombat was cool and all but it's not like, a great martial film, you know? But it's better than nothing I suppose.

Personally that ninja title where there is pme that literally looks like Jesus murdering a fuckton of people with a minigun, i'm not kidding there is literally a dude that carries a big cross around and inside there are pieces of a deadly minigun
There also the movies where i managed to find the original source and compared them to Godfrey's to see how much the madman altered the story, This is just an example
Thundering Nina has pieces of The Criminal but the plot was altered with the protagonist and a major female character never ending up in jail or being judged as all scenes regarding the tribunal were removed
The plot was changed so that the Criminals that were working under their leader all work including their leader to the ninja organization which master leader of all leaders is called fucking Danilof
One of Danilof man killed the mother of the protagonist, but in the original it was presumably implied to have been a criminal
The father of the protagonists is obsessed about cathing Danilof and his ninjas despite the fact these never existed to begin with in the original movie and he had only a beef with the criminals, not that deeply obsessed hate
And other crazy things as expected from the Madman

The company that made it had just bought the rights to the MK franchise. They most definitely wanted people to remember it so they could make more content to make their purchase profitable.

Even as a 9 year old I knew it was retarded. You can stretch reality pretty far, especially in kids movies but 3 ninjas didn't make any effort to make any of it remotely plausible.

Content just means media in various forms, anon. In currentyear companies have more mediums available to them. I could have said movies but with it being a franchise known for video games, comic books, cartoons, web series and music as well it would sound a bit limiting. These guys most likely want to kick off a new era of all of that. The movie didn't even have a tournament. It's a setup story to the whole invasion.

me 45 years old.
I lived during the ninja period, it was American Ninja the movie and Bruce Lee of course, very hard to watch movies on VHS being communism in my country, but being children we recreated scenarios from the movies and imagined ourselves to be karate fighters. we even had a book of style positions but nothing came out of us. we were just fooling around senselessly. one of us stuck to the same ideas. he didn't get married even now

They didn't prove shit. They pretend they're the closest to street fight and muh no rules but they have just as much rules as any other fighting sport.
IRL you never want to get on the ground because you're the most vulnerable.
Knowing how to punch hard and heem someone is still the safest most efficient way to win a fight. In a street fight a boxer would still win. He would move faster, he would protect his groin better. He would avoid going on the ground and getting trampled on by the guy's friend he didn't notice.

44 year old anon here. It was great, ninjas were and are cool. Some many cheesy dubbed ninja B-movies I watched. Sparked my fascination with martial arts that I still have to this day. Unfortunately nowhere to train ninjutsu in Ireland so I had to settle for Ju-Jitsu. In the mid 90's I owned a copy of pic related and it was even more fascinating than the stuff I saw ninja do in movies. A lot of the mythical stuff that we attribute to ninjas was just a combination of extreme physical conditioning/training from an early age and unorthodox methods/strategy to outright sneaky trickery. I still do some of the techniques shown in this book just for fun. Like how to walk quietly or feel your way through a dark room with your feet. It is genuinely one of the biggest regrets in my life that I never had the opportunity to train in ninjutsu and never will.
>>

I remember being obsessed with ninja shit and I wasn't even that hardcore about it. Besides the obvious Ninja turtles, there was Snake from GI Joe who was a huge influence and the things I wanted most as a 10-11 year old was throwing stars, nunchucks and a ninja suit. I even build myself a wooden kendo type sword with a broomstick, black hockey tape and wood square for the guard, it was fucking badass for a couple of summers. Everything changed by about the late 1990s, society got nerfed and all things ninja gradually backed away from kids shows. Now I couldn't name a single cool warrior image aimed at young kids but when I was a boy it was EVERYWHERE, warriors soliders knights vikings pirates you had your pick of badassery.
>>
>>174594545
>Everything changed by about the late 1990s, society got nerfed
The exact point was 9/11 2001, after that they basically neutered all on screen violence and badassery in American cartoons, meaning kids gravitated towards anime and we all know how that went.

in the early 80's it was based, but by the mid-late 80's with teenage mutant ninjas and ninjas in movies fighting gang members in LA or some shit, it began to get gay.

in the early 80's, actor sho kosugi really brought the art of ninjitsu to the forefront then it bled into GI Joe and soldier of fortunefags read into stephen k. hayes, learning about the ancient art of silent japanese assassination and it was a well-respected thing. then like i said, TMNT, and 90's vidya pretty much made ninjas cringe

I personally like Kung Fu, but it makes me sad that we could've had Bruce motherfucking Lee as the main character. The fight scenes would've gone from just ok to legendary with him there.

I don't like games where the only draw is how difficult it is. I play games to relax, not to get frustrated.

This isn't a game that is difficult for the sake of being difficult. This isn't a masochistic game where you're punished unnecessarily harshly for every mistake like jump king or dark souls. This is a game that gets better and better as you rise and rise to meet the difficulty you're presented with. What the fuck are you even in this thread for? Fuck off and don't reply to me again pleb.

Awesome movie.
I remember getting told in school we were going to watch this, instead it was an educational film with guys in shitty ninja turtles costumes and wrong voices.
>>
There was even a movie with Kangaroo Ninjas

Faggot. Even the creator of the game was talking shit about other devs saying their games aren't as difficult as his, like a badge of honor.

Revenge of the Ninja is the better ninja film in my opinion. The ending ninja battle on the roof is amazing and lot of other great ninja moments. Ninja III I think might be the best overall though with the mix of ninja/80s shit. Enter the Ninja is mid to sort of bad

WMAC was sick, I started rewatching through some of it a bit recently since I only caught a couple of episodes when I was like 4-5 years old and it always left an imprint on my mind.

Remember that zombie fad for a while where everything was zombies?
Ninjas in the 80s were like that zombie fad of the mid 2000s.
