I mean, he absolutely did. Gil-Galad asked if they found the mithril and then Elrond got a pained expression and said "....I can't break my vow of secrecy!"
That was the dumbest shit ever, like why even introduce this plot element if it's just going to be tossed away after an episode?

Elves and Dwarves had a lot of ups and downs over the ages according to the lore, and some of it is intentionally murky. When they first met, the Elves hunted them like animals, but then they made up after they figured out it was a misunderstanding. There was some killing in the first age over jewels & a silmaril. They're also just completely alien in nature to each other, which in Tolkien's lore (and in common sense) meant that relations were difficult.

Since we can't pinpoint exactly when this series is supposed to be, or what was already changed in the lore, it's hard to say exactly where they should be at during this point. It's clearly right before the Doors of Durin were made by Celebrimbor and Narvi though, which means their relations should be on the upswing or at least about to pivot.

From the Fellowship:
>Well, here we are at last!’ said Gandalf. ‘Here the Elvenway from Hollin ended. Holly was the token of the people of that land, and they planted it here to mark the end of their domain; for the West-door was made chiefly for their use in their traffic with the Lords of Moria. Those were happier days, when there was still close friendship at times between folk of different race, even between Dwarves and Elves.’ ‘It was not the fault of the Dwarves that the friendship waned,’ said Gimli. ‘I have not heard that it was the fault of the Elves,’ said Legolas. ‘I have heard both,’ said Gandalf; ‘and I will not give judgement now.

>>
>>174555058
Not even that, the two things are not comparable. Gandalf travelling alone before the main plot (destroy the ring) over a period of years does not need to be followed step-by-step. By contrast, Durin and Elrond are one of the main plotlines in this show and we're already beyond the set-up. They went across the world for a handful of scenes and they're already leaving by the end of the episode.

That was a genuinely good episode where things moved forwards, characters seemed more emotional, like they actually knew each other or were getting to know each other. The first sign of Galadriel not being a bitch - when Halbrand says "I'm sorry about your brother" and she says "your sorrow won't help me..." and I was like oh boy, here we go again. But then she adds "Just like your hammer and anvil won't help you with your pain," and goes onto say what needs to be done. So for once she actually convinces someone with words, she seems empathetic and shows an emotion other than Karen rage.

They really should've really condensed Eps1-3 into one episode if possible. Even if it was 80 mins. 4 and 5 have been a massive cut above the rest, especially 5. There's still stupid shit, like Galadriel's new elf armour. P.S. Gil-galad is obviously Sauron. Either manipulated or the real one has been imprisoned somewhere and this is Sauron shapeshifting. I guarantee it.
>>
>>174555147
We're not really past the setup, this is the setup to Sauron returning. And far more was cut out of Gandalf's travel than Elrond's. The difference is, and I'll admit there's one, is that the Gandalf stuff was done alongside Gandalf's narration of what he was doing which gives the editor a license to be aggressive and montage it heavily. It's more jarring if it just happens, like *bamf* here we are and *bamf* we're home again and why not *bamf* goes to Kazad-Dum again.
>>
>>174555147
>the two things are not comparable.
The hobbits also teleport from Gondor to the Shire
Frodo then teleports from the shire to the grey havens and then Sam teleports back to the shire again 2 mins later
Jackson had them teleports literally thousands of miles in the blink of an eye all all through the movies
>>
>>174554668
>You want an additional 4 episodes of them walking through woodlands?
Unironically yes, I was trying to put my thumb on why this series didn't feel like lotr, and I think it's because all the og tales in Middle Earth are adventure stories. People in LotR and the Hobbit and a decent chunk of the Silmarillion are on a journey of some sort. This show feels like it's trying to be a PG GoT.

>just finished the episode
other than the meh cgi, i can feel the amount of budget burning from this episode more so compared to the previous four lmfao.
this episode is pretty much the stamp that this series is far superior than the hotd series, if not already since ep1.

the dwarf and elf relationship and chrc development are pretty entertaining and consistently have that tolkien vibes.
cant give a shit about the humans plus the dark elve soldier.

the mother went on a dive after this episode but i could see their plot getting the first wave of the war.

the harfoots... still kinda cringe at times.

the galadriel is setting up for the war nicely.

as for the orcs, still alright. for one thing they got the looks still on high quality.
>>
>>174555337
>Yes I want 4 episodes of them walking through woodlands
For what though, just because?
This isn't an adventure story, it's a story about kingdoms and their downfalls through the deceptions of Sauron.
The story primarily take place in these kingdoms because it is them ,and the people at the head of them, that are the focal and not the world

At first people defending this show seemed retarded. Now the critics do. Here we go (it's like explaining a film to my 5yo nephew):
>Durin met Gil-galad, the whole idea of the elves dying was introduced
>the salvation being mythril was introduced.
>They asked Durin about it and he said yes. So a problem was introduced, discussed, and the solution is seemingly started - all in one ep.
>it was also explained more specifically why he sent Galadriel away
>Half the Southlanders went to the evil side.
>Arondir figured out Theo's sword is a key - and also bonded with Theo.
>Isildulr redeemed himself in his father's eyes and is now in the army rather than skulking around
>We learned Ar-Pharazon and his son are pretty ruthless, willing to blow up their own ships but it backfire.
>Galadriel actually has character development. She softens, stops just having a go at people and actually emotionally reasons with Halbrand, explaining that they're both in pain and they both need to face the cause of the pain rather than running away from it. She even bows to the queen.
>Equally Halbrand starts to open up and starts to accept his role as king
>Gil-galad is acting shady as fuck, he was oddly aggressive with Durin for no reason, was overly emotional and strange with Elrond, then at the end we see he oddly followed and spied on Elrond for some reason. He's Sauron, shapeshifted, and the real one is imprisoned somewhere, giving him extra reason to hate Sauron

>not how they got up there in the first place when Dwarves didnt settle in there yet to build the stairs leading to the peak
The entire scene is retarded because they didnt consider minor details that make the scene believable.
>>
>>174558956
It would still be shit because the people making it would be the same. Are you dumb?
>>
I keep trying to watch this but every episode is such a fucking chore. Almost every character is extremely boring.
>>
God this show is so boring.
Yes it's all dialog and build-up but it's dogshit at doing that.
Finally they get somewhere after 5 episodes.
>>
Did the Harfoots travel through the not-yet-Dead Marshes? They're a long fucking way away from founding the Shire from there.

>Are you dumb?
Of course I am, I’m watching this show aren’t I?
>>
>I need 500 soldiers so I can humiliate them in a training exercise where I flex over how much better I am than them all put together
It's got to be tough being a shill having to watch this and figure out how to talk it up

If you think that the series so far has been great then you probably consider shit to be gourmet food.

Annatar/Sauron shows up at the end.

>>
>opens to a trash wanna be Disney song from the children’s story arch of the hairfoots
>guy blows up two ship and only witness, for no reason whatsoever, doesn’t turn in the traitor whom he doesn’t even know
There was one really good scene, it was when the guy with salt and pepper thick hair said his intentions are to gain massive influence by helping the men in middle Earth and having the Elves be under their thumbs.
It lasted for 1 minute.
Everything else was meh or didn’t make sense at all.
Funny enough still the best episode yet. But now that the filler Numinor arch is over maybe it’ll get better.
>>
>>174562401
>tfw I just realized we’re now half way finished
So true anon. How did this “story” arch get green lit to take half the season up?
>>
>>174561427
What? She said she prepared for the fight scenes by doing exposure therapy with the stunt team, having them swing swords at her until she didn't flinch. She didn't go to a therapist because the fight scenes were to traumatic.

This Island people arch didn’t need to take this long.

Hello shill,
Welcome to the 4channel forums. I, and many anons, appreciate your efforts. However sadly the show speak for itself and no fake praise can hide the simple fact that this show is just objectively very bad.

>Another great episode tonight

I am going to be completely honest, lads. I zoned out around 35 minutes into this episode 5. The writing and directing are just so amateur. The acting is mediocre at best. The whole thing comes across as very daytime-soap-opera tier. I really want to like this show but, I mean, let's be honest, fellas. This is not a good show.
>>
I only care and like the dwarf, harfoot and comet man plots
>>
>>174563381
What?
>>
>>174563783
This. They share a whimsical yet melancholic tone.
>>
>>174553463
That was really stupid. He told him without telling him.
>>
>>174563783
What the fuck is the comet man? Most recent episode clearly paints him as formerly evil (his black speech moment) which made me think maybe Balrog but now he even had ice powers or some shit unless its just a the implication of the remaining vestiges of Morgoths Sorcery that haunted the norths the closer you cane to Angband and Utumno.
>>
>>174556480
this pasta again?
>>
>>174553463
lol are you still expecting a story. Sauron will be revealed at the end of the last episode with a cliffhanger and that is all that will happen in season 1. They'll have a few meaningless orc skirmishes until then.
>>
They have fucked the series all up by trying to extend it so they have 10 seasons. Absolute boring as hell with no interesting characters besides the elf that is master of the orcs. I kept giving it one more episode maybe it will pick up but I’m done.
>>
Pretty good episode, not sure if it's the best yet but definitely up there
Next two episodes are meant to be full on action/drama
>>
>>174552476
I fast forward through all the Numenor scenes. Its shit plot that has been dragging on for far too long. Other than that.
>the costumes look like plastic. Especially the armor on the Numenorian boat at the end
>I am not invested in any of the characters except maybe the hobbits and Elrond / Durin
>I don't like Galadriel as a person and there is no reason for her to want to get Sauronguy on the throne
>autistic smithing intensifies
>Morals are totally misalligned. Isildur makes a tiny little error on purpose that he sort of could explain while sauron attempted murder. One gets a two episode long "redemption arc" with little payoff and the other just becomes king while autistically smithing
>They dropped the ball on the darkelf this episode. Thought it would be a smart character but its just an edgy emo
>The whole mithril story was absurd. By this Spring? Elves that live forever are going to get fucked by this spring if some dwarf didnt incidentily find mithril? Come on man. This is just dumb shit.

all of it is shit because why would dwarves care that elves lose their immortality? why would they even believe any of this nonsense? Even if he is his friend, he didnt ask any specifics?! "yall die? oh ok cool".
The writers did not bother to create any story or background. This is what happens when you dont have books to draw tons of lore from.. it ends up being shallow nonsense.

IRL scenario: "did you kill this man?"
"I only talk to my lawyer"
"OH THAT MEANS YOU DID IT"

What's the tiny chainmail things between the pauldrons and chestplate?
I thought mythril was designed like that most often? Why is that non-mythril stuff so tiny?
>>
>>174552571
To be fair, I'm fairly certain that the plot-threads aren't all happening at the same time. The stuff in the southlands happens over a couple of days, but Galadriel would have to be sailed half way across the world in order to even get to Numenor.
>>
>>174570050
That's in terms of law, anon. You can plead the fifth for any reason, and not speaking is not a valid excuse to make someone guilty in the eyes of a court of law. Meanwhile, Elrond basically went...
>Hey, did you find Mithril?
>I VOWED A VOW OF VOWS TO VOW NOT TO SPEAK ABOUT IT.
Like wow, a whole vow? Damn, must mean that super important promise you made means that there's nothing down there.
>>
>>174554805
Then don't? Anon, you don't have to watch anything. Jeff Bezos doesn't have a gun to your head. Do what you want, watch what you want. I have the Andy Griffith Show playing right now.
>>
>I was there Elrond, the night we drove your fathers people into the sea and bathed in the blood of all your childhood friends. Your mother chose to drown herself along with her Silmaril rather than fall into our hands. She was a good friend. My uncle raised you and your brother as his own daughters, did you never wonder why you still wear dresses to this day? And your dwarf friend with his little oath? Did he really think we'd let them hoard it all for themself? The last light of the trees my grandfather forged into the Silmarils himself? Had you forgotten who I am, grandson and last scion of the house of Fëanor? You've danced along to our tune, just as uncle Maglor said you would. Now you'd best return to your poetry. Perhaps you can write your friend a dirge while the last of the Noldor reclaim what is ours.
