For an extended seige it is common for defenders to scourge the surrounding landscape and retreat to prevent enemy forces from foraging. You're just a historylet with no aptitude for military tactics, KLs desert landscape makes sense given that Cercie probably ordered it completely scourged in case the seige went on for long.

Did Qyburn also invent excavators to level the land?
>>
>>168003588
Well in the books it's surrounded by hundreds of miles of farmland, as well as having a massive fishing district.

Idk what the fuck is going on in OPs pic tho.
>>
>>168004188
It's the camera angle, also the beseiging force would regularly dig and entrench the surrounded city to prevent a mass breakout and escape, this combined with earlier scourging and other construction activities to bolster defense/seige weapons lead to the desert look of the land.

why is this show so inconsistent? KL is flanked by an inlet that pours into the blackwater rush. There's no mountains around it, and the castle lies on a steep outcrop that overlooks Blackwater bay. The grand cathedral or whatever it was called was located on the only other hill in King's Landing, and was elevated from the skyline. If King's Landing really had hills overlooking it like this, it would be easy game. But it didn't. The blackwater rush was also impossible to ford for most of its length except a long way inland. Which is why Stannis couldn't encircle the city. The angle of this shitty CGI view theoratically shows KL from the southside (coming from the Reach), which is the direction that Stannis' army attacked from (situated across the rush). It was all cleared ground, since Stannis could deploy his massive army and siege equipment along it.

Probably farmland behind the cameras perspective and fishing goods. But, the writers and showrunners should have done it better so the work wasn't left to the audience.

Horn Hill doesn't look bad. It just doesn't look very defensible if it's supposed to be a castle. If it was a palace it looks fine.

Yes which is how it is in every other season a flat plane/small forests/farmland. In season six they stunt-cast a medieval town in croatia for marketing purposes even though it looks completely wrong and makes the city look tiny

ASOIAF is set in our distant future, after genetically advanced super-humans (Valyrians, essentially a bunch of blonde purple eyed Khan Noonien Singhs) enslaved a bunch of regular humans and take them to colonize Planetos on a huge space ship built out of a hollowed out asteroid.

At some point after arriving and seeding Planetos with humans, horses, turnips and such, a civil war breaks out among the Valyrians and their space ship is damaged, giving rise to the myth of the “moon cracking open and dragons spilling out”.

This civil war among the Valyrians devastates the planet, causing the Long Night and possibly knocking Planetos into a screwy orbit that causes the weird climate and what few regular humans survive, revert back into into barbaric primitive cave men and it will take untold generations for them to slowly claw their way back to a quasi-medieval level of civilization and by then, they’ve forgotten all about their actual origins.

It also leaves a handful of surviving Valyrians stranded on Planetos and they take refuge hiding on the Valyrian Peninsula with the few bits of advanced tech they managed to hold on to.

The small number of Valyrians results in them adopting the practice of inbreeding aided by genetic technology to prevent defects, which they also use to genetically modify the native “firewyrms” found living in and around the volcanoes and turn them into dragons.

Eventually the Valyrians feel strong enough to try and conquer the world and the Valyrian Freehold is the result but their brutality results in the Faceless Men, who steal some tech from the Valyrians and use it to develop nuclear weapons (or something very similar) which they first test on Hardhome and later use to destroy the Valyrian Peninsula by detonating them inside the volcanos, toppling the Valyrian Freehold.

Also, the first Dayne was a rebel Valyrian survivor and the “falling star” he tracked to the mouth of the Torrentine was in fact an escape pod from the spaceship, containing technology that he used to forge the sword Dawn, (among other things) while the “Red Comet” is the Valyrian’s damaged spaceship, traveling on a long period orbit around the solar system.
