what's the scariest movie ever?
>>
That one about white people
>>
>>149239520
gotta say the original The Exorcist
ive watched horror movies that scared me during the film, but afterwards i felt fine. but The Exorcist left me feeling kinda nervous and uneasy for days. i remember being alone in my room at night, and having that horrifying sensation that something was there, watching me.
no other horror movie has fucked me up that way.
i tried to show it to my gf, but i accidentally showed her the horrible director's cut or whatever the fuck where it's 10 hrs long and Pazuzu's head keeps randomly popping up like a pop-up ad. jesus fucking christ that cut is awful. it ruined my ability to be scared by the film
>>
>>149239520
The Decent gave me a decent scare
>>
>>149239520
This was awesome. Unfortunately the pyramid movie that came around the same time was like half as good, more suspense less action.

I saw a movie jeruzalem that was shot but had a cute Jewish girl so I watched it

Movies are only scary when your house is dark and your drunk.

Depends what scares you.
Ghosts? Probably Paranormal Activity or Blair Witch Project
Killers? Maybe Wolf Creek
Monsters? Maybe The Descent and Savageland
I think i'm in a minority that thinks found footage films are scarier than normal horror movies.

That short Ju-on series that came out on Netflix was really good. Really fucking weird, spooky, and had a very somber and eerie atmosphere to it throughout. The Dark and the Wicked was pretty decent too. Someone recommended it in another thread and I enjoyed it. I typically don't like devil/possession type horror but it was pretty good. Haunting of Hill House was another ok series. The follow up series was so disappointing though.

Objectively, maybe The Blair Witch Project or The Exorcist.

A really scary non-horror film that comes to mind is The Conversation.

On a personal note, Dennis Hopper's character in Blue Velvet has always scared the shit outta me, so that's probably the scariest for myself.
>>
for me, its The Thing, and not the remake
something about monsters that can take any form absolutely scares the shit out of me

Blair Witch and The Exorcists really separate the hylics from the pneumatics. If you can't sense what is going on with those films you likely lack sentience.

imagine putting paranormal activity on the same level as the blair witch project

My dad took me to see Dog Soliders when I was a kid. Told me it was just about dogs because he knew I didn't like scary stuff. Closed my eyes for about half the film, cried when I got home, had horrible nightmares for a good time after that. Haven't seen it since 2002. At first I hated that my dad did that, but over the years I've realized it was pretty funny because he was laughing his ass off the entire way home because I kept saying it wasn't about dogs. Anyways that's the scariest film of all time for me. Nothing has ever even come close to that. I am immune now

I’m a power plant operator. We were shut down for 3 months because of fighting over a new contract, not like a normal maintenance outage.

Plants will hire utility operators without plant experience and then train you and move you up. But you’d have an even better shot if you get an associates degree in power plant technology and/or get a boiler operator license for your state which is pretty easy with a little studying. Nuclear plants have more security guard type positions which are a good foot in the door for higher paying jobs. Military experience helps for those, but it’s worth applying regardless if you’re interested. These are usually posted on major job hunting sites. Just search “power plant”.

That scene is one of thr scariest, I literally felt like my heart dropped when she did that weird shit, super unsettling.
In general, Japan has a lot of horror films where the vibe of the film or just specifics scenes is what I'd consider to be perfect horror in film.
>>
>>149253010
same poster here, there was another japanese one that fucked me up that had about 1k views on the trailer on youtube so I doubt anyone will know it but i'll try anyway, all I can remember about it was babies and children were being harvested into a matrix type machine then one breaks free and starts killing people telepathically or some shit. was super unsettling

>hurr durr Paranormal Activity isn't scary

You clearly didn't watch it under the age of 18 or in a theatre. Shit was genuinely terrifying and me and my mate couldn't sleep that night. Only horror that's even come close to the first PA for me was The Hills Have Eyes

Depends entirely what you want in terms of 'scary', if it's suspenseful shit that makes your skin crawl its probably blair witch or something of that ilk that has the characters constantly having something breathe down their neck and freak them out without blatantly chasing them like a slasher flick. Regardless Texas chainsaw og works anyway b/c it's so well done, def up there as well. But if you want existential dread or something that tries less to be exciting and more leave a real imprint on your person literally nothing comes close to threads. Not to sound like a fag but the final scene with the stillbirth and the girl reacting to it is VERY kino, and an extremely powerful image to show not just "what happens after the nukes" but a universal human gut instinct "No, how could this even happen" response. It's very powerful stuff if you let what the creators made get through to you on a gut level and not just randomly see a girl screaming at a cloth. Very ahead of it's time

A russian film: Cargo (2007). It's about rape and corrupted police in the setting of post-Afghanistan war USSR. Felt like crap afterwards, extremely depressing stuff.

This is a weird one for me. I kinda got bored and fell asleep during the film, only to wake up and its in a different setting entirely. Kinda freaked me out, thinking it was a different film with the same actors

Critics are professional man children. It's not even worth looking at critic scores.

I guess if you want a more serious answer, I think As Above So Below was released at a time when everyone was sick of found footage/shaky cam.

this is really underrated and well written, i would suggest it to any anon

I saw the amityville remake with ryan renolds in theaters with my mom when i was 10. That fucked me up beyond belief, i remember the movie having tons of pop ups and being super loud.
>>
>>149239520

When I was a kid I was terrified by monster movies, and in general, had a big imagination. Couldn't be alone in the dark until I was like 15. Couldn't sleep unless I was with someone else. My mom got me a cat, one which slept with me every night and from then on I wasn't scared anymore. That cat died a decade ago, rip.

Nowadays, I really like horror movies, but they don't scare me at all. I like them because they're intriguing and I like practical effects/monsters and supernatural mystery.

>The Thing
>Alien
>The Hills have Eyes
>Saw
>Pumpkinhead
>The Exorcist
>Frankenstein
>Shining
>Pan's Labrynth
>The Fly

Great special effects and interesting concepts, but not really terrifying.

>>149239520
For me it was Jaws because I saw it way too young and now have great fear about swimming in open water even swimming pools
Most movies the only thing that scares me are lame jump scares and the rare suspenseful scene but nothing came close to actually fucking me up my entire life and developing a phobia like Jaws has.

Has anyone seen "Come True"? It had some great moments but completely shit the bed in the last half hour. It actually pissed me off how much build up and lore they establish just to literally throw it out on a meme ending.

The Exorcist in no 1, forever, of all movies ever made.

For a simple reason: so many people died while filming it. Satan was watching over the production.
