Oh no Allenbros, we got too cocky...
Is cinéma pur a meme?
>>149225853An American La Belle Noiseuse. Pure Roeg kino.

>>149226964Have you checked out the mega link in the OP?
Great OP, perfect for Eunuch (American, reddit, tranny) hours.
>>149227068It unironically hits too close to home for most Americans.
>>149227200Why are frogs so based?
Do you understand Rivette's movies?
>>149226137naked female body is the most stupid anti-intellectual thing you can possibly film
>>149227381>anti-intellectual thingIs that you in the OP anon?
>>149227200hahaha, awesome. has anyone here seen it? links available?
>>149227396It's on Vimeo, don't expect much it's mostly just Godard making fun of Woody
>>149227484I don't believe you.
>>149227575I don't care.
>>149227654You sound like you don't care. You also sound like you understand Rivette's movies.
any one recommend some good shit after watching this?
>>149226107I don't even understand how is this suppose to make fun of him. There are 2 moments where he does slow motion and it's funny, the rest is normal. Godard looks autistic.
Didn't care much for The Searchers or Liberty Valance, but this was fantastic. Really something else.
>>149227200But none of that is truth. Delusions of letterboxd trannies
>>149228807Try Stagecoach and My Darling Clementine next, the westerns you watched are best seen after the more fundamental Ford westerns whose mythology they are responding to.
>>149227381>naked female body is the most stupid anti-intellectual thing you can possibly paint
Watching Quintet really hurts my case for Altman being the best American director of the 70s. I don't know what the fuck he was going for; the half baked nihilism feels like such a betrayal of the optimism and joie de vie of movies like Nashville and A Wedding, but without the self introspection of Pasolini's following up the Trilogy of Life with Salo. I still think the high points of Altman's 70s run stand alongside those of any other American director of that decade including Coppola, but that was a real fucking low. Apparently it was taken away from him in editing, but I'm not sure how good it could have been even if he had completed it as he wanted to. At least its hard for me to imagine Popeye being worse than this.
>>149229813whatever, godard would think i'm cool for saying that
Is Donnie Darko /film/ material?
>>149227381Frequented these threads for a good amount of time now so ive seen my fair share of plebeian thought yet i truly believe this one might top them all. Truly vapid.
>>149230153Both are good
>>149230278Not really, Southland Tales is the more /film/ of the two, but is ultimately not great either, like if Harmony Korine tried to make a cerebral film plus the TS Eliot stuff is retarded. They're fine American films, but not /film/ so to speak. Need to watch The Box.
>>149230287im just so far ahead u need a little time to catch up, friend ;)
>>149230385Perhaps. To say something so foolish this brazenly, you might be hiding something..
>>149230373>Need to watch The Box.Don't bother with that outlook. It's the most mainstream of his films.
>>149230309Both Quintet and Popeye?
>>149225804whats on the non family edition? child porn?
>>149230675Quintet I haven't seen, Popeye is fine once you get past how it looks and the silliness
>>149227381i feel like this is kinda true, naked men are more radical and interesting to film. But not excluding women, just not inserting a naked woman for the sake of "art"
>>149225804>tries to expand taste>is overwhelmed/not in the mood and puts on some shitty action or horror flickthis happens to me everytime, how do I broaden my view of cinema, give me some great entry level kinos.
>>149230835>Both are good>Quintet I haven't seenThe intellectual dishonesty and smugness of the '''people''' on this place is spectacular to behold time after time
>>149231019Yeah Quintet is good bro, you just got filtered. Sorry dude must suck to be retarded and get filtered by his best 70s film.
>>149231065>this reading comprehensionAre you literally retarded?
About to watch this kino, although I know it'll be good beforehand even though I hate Altman. What am I in for /film/?Tell me!
>>149230715Southland is more artsy, convoluted than Donnie, Box is the opposite.
>>149231151A good night's sleep
>>149231151all Newman movies are good
>>149231151Its really good, I love the score and the dialogue. I haven't seen it yet, but I think you'll agree its kino. Did Altman really direct it?
>>149230278there is genuine mystery to donnie darko. something a lot of /films/ lack.
>>149231240I ultimately liked both films a lot, I'm sure I'll like it if it's even remotely similar to those two. Surprised to hear this though.
>>149231407The best film is really a film I haven't seen, but I do agree that it is a kino I'm looking forward to watching it. I did like Newman in it he's great and yes Altman directed it, good from him his vision comes through the screen.
>>149230859>naked men are more radical and interesting to film>How so?just not inserting a naked woman for the sake of "art"Why not?
>>149231821Whoops, place the second arrow a line below.
>>149231821for me its a question of overusing and sometimes forcing an aesthetican "art" aesthetic, like those old paintings and such. For example the worst example ive seen of putting a naked woman in an art film is in The Sacrifice of tarkovsky, i love that movie but that part where you see the girl naked in the hallway comes from out of nowere and has no significance to anything.A naked man has more aesthetic potential imo because wwhen its done is not done in a strict beautiful way, sometimes its fat naked men, sometimes they are skinny and gross, has more shapes. So makes for more interesting things in the frame.in my few experiences women see themselves as in a mirror way. They actually have a collective thinking process. While men see a naked woman as beauty.I feel like the only solution for more interesting things would be to film old women that remind the expectator of their mother or grandmother (maybe i should do something with that)Yesterday i filmed inside a vagina with a macro lens.i hope i expressed myself well enough
can music videos be /film/? i feel like they go to an experimental extreme that is way beyond even the most avant garde film here.
What do you think Godard thinks of this?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VY1eFxgRR-k
>>149232478Could you give an example for that?
>>149232478It's all a matter of definition. For some people docs aren't films, animation isn't, shorts aren't, etc. For more yes, they are, and there's plenty of kinos.

>>149233188>https://vimeo.com/220328022I thought you meant Simon Lebon; this Music video is kino;https://vimeo.com/254520210
>>149232705>For some people docs aren't films, animation isn't, shorts aren't, etc.
>>149232422So am I reading it correctly that you don't see artistic/aesthetic potential in filming ATTRACTIVE nude people, rather than it being an inherent divide of gender?>>149232809Some of his films also work as music videos, but he's clearly more on the avant-garde film side of things.>>149232981Interesting indeed, at least some outrageous techniques on display here, but I can't see how it would be more extreme.
>>149232422Sounds like you might be interested in Egon Schiele, are you familiar with him? He painted male and female nudes in a similar non-idealized way to what you're describing.
>>149235176>Egon SchieleNo i did not knew him, thanks. Just looking at a few drawings i can see how many things he influenced
