A member of the castle owner's court. Get some mystery in there. Of course they're more prone to thinking it's a supernatural killer, but it's not.

Lot of very tight corridors and staircases for tense filming, many places for varied kills including using the environment, could have a cool score using medieval instruments in a horror style. Potential there.

A man suffering from mental illness after a bout with drug addiction lives a predictable routine of indoor isolation broken up only by doctor's appointments. These appointments and his medication are aided by his longtime girlfriend, who lives with him. A third of the way through the film, tensions between the two boil over due to the stresses of her essentially having to be his nurse in addition to his partner, and she leaves him. Without her assistance, our MC eventually runs out of his medications, and agoraphobic symptoms prevent him from seeing his doctor. The main body of the film would be a journey through this man's delusions, visions and paranoia, with themes questioning mankind's perception of reality, the faultyness of our senses, and the validity of our experiences, real or imagined.

Also for my purpose I would be going for a mid size castle, not like, the King's castle. Mid size so it doesn't feel small scale or half assed, but such that it's still going to be claustrophobic and you can clearly establish the whole layout of the castle early on. Also limits the cast to a degree, you don't want sixty guards you have to explain away, but you want plenty of courtiers and soldiers to off all the same.
And you're more likely to find a suitable mid size castle in the British Isles or mainland Europe to film exterior and some interior for.

Alright bros, I got it. Our character is alone at home. It's super spooky. You hear a knock on the door. It doesn't sound like a normal knock, it sounds demonic.
You call out this mummer's farce and find out it's your nuncle. You proceed to have grilled fish with mutton stuffed mushrooms, veal and gravy, Arbor Redwyne, cheese from the Westerlands and a find Dornish fig. The next course is preceeded by a mintstrel with her tits out. You immediately raise sail with your fat pink mast. It's actually your dear own sister.

All the stuff I imagine walking around my house at 2 or 3 am I think would be terrifying in a horror movie. Like I think we should say fuck plots and just do a bunch of scary scenes. You only need so much character development to tap into their primal fear when they are confronted with something that warps their understanding. My pet peeve is honestly a horror movie just being "LOL ITS A METAPHOR FOR DEPRESSION" like okay I thought something scary was happening.

Also always draw from nature.
3 Spooky little things in mind from staying up late

1. I have this fridge that always has its ice machine rumbling all day. It's random and it always makes me feel like someone is knocking on the door. One night I just imagined peaking out the window and seeing this weird brown thing with 8 little arms hanging off its torso like a shrimp that end in black little human hands. Just imagining that knocking was its little arms rolling over eachother on my door.

2. Dude kills a fly while he's brushing his teeth at 3 am. Notices a fly in the mirror buzzing around, but can only see the dead fly on the counter.

3. Lets dog into backyard to pee. Opens the door and there's two dogs looking at him. One is an exact copy of the other. He has to either lock them both out, or only let one of them in.
If the former then he finds only the one dog in the morning.

These could be framed as a guy who had a nervous breakdown once because of family stuff, and he doesn't want to report anything because he can't tell if he's making it up and he also doesn't want to get thrown away for being nuts. Ending would be he either gets locked away.
>>
>>134239984
sorry I'm super stoned and posted too early
> Ending would be he either gets locked away
and there's proof for the viewer the stuff was real, or he gets killed incredibly gruesomely and the police think it was a twisted serial killer who did it.

Thinking the secluded house empty, a group of violent vagabonds descend upon it only to find a neet still left inside. A deadly game of cat and weeb ensues. The twist is the home invasion isn't a random occurrence, they're killers hired by the parents to get rid of their disappointing offspring.

Really digging the period piece recs. Here's mine:
>movie set in the 1300s in sone European village
>filmed in third person over the shoulder all the time like the Gears if War games
>follow some wench doing her chores and strutting around the village doing deliveries, fetching water etc. for like the first 20 minutes
>this also serves to establish several minor characters like the friendly but tough blacksmith, the regal lird and his heartless wife, the old crazy hobo screaming in the street etc...
>it's getting darker
>turns out this isn't set in our time but in some phantasy world where monsters exist
>watch the woman try to survive the night while running, hiding, fighting all throughout the village as carnage ensues
>showdown in the castle where it turns out the lird has been doing shady shit with sorcerers
>all is filmed over the shoulder of the woman at all times
>plenty of gore and long shots in darkness as the woman trys to huddle through dark alleys and corridoors, maybe also a forest where there are rapist bandits that serve as fodder for the monsters
>>
>>134233068
Sounds like a Video Nasty.
>>
Difficulty in period horror is to do periods well you need plenty of budget, and that's not too common for horror films. The VVitch looked and felt very authentic but that was very small in scale as a result. You're not gonna get a very authentic and scaled up castle set horror for less than say, 60M in this day and age and that's a lot for a horror slasher. Otherwise you'll look like a greenscreened Renaissance fair.
If I was a multi-billionaire I'd found these kinds of funds all the time though, with no interest in making any of it back.

I don’t know why people think that monkeys are cute. Lesser primates are okay, Capuchins, Spider Monkeys, Siamangs, Lemurs. They could be manageable if you had the resources. But anything equal to, or larger than, say, a Gibbon could rip you limb from limb with little to zero remorse. In real life, if I saw a monkey walking towards me, I would shoot it in the head and then shoot it in the eyes. Chimps deserve to be murdered, they are a parasite. Burn them alive. There is a lot of unexplored potential for a horror movie about chimps. A spooky film about a killer chimp would be far more scary than any slasher flick. Chimps are fucking terrifying. When they attack they rip off limbs, hair, and often go for genitalia first. They have superhuman strength and can absolutely destroy people in incredibly gruesome ways. That woman in France. She kept her chimp sedated for around five years of its life. She’d give it Xanax. But it doesn’t have the same effect on primates than it does on humans. That’s why it went mad and eviscerated her friend’s face. Imagine being a normal human with eyesight and everything. And then one day a monkey rips your face and eyes away. The horror. Your life obliterated by a primate.
>>
>>134242921

I know that some of you reading this might think you could beat a chimp, that they are talked up too much. You probably think you could use your superior intelligence and superior reach and superior weight to defeat a chimp. You could pin it down. You could put it in a headlock and ooh-ohh ahh-ahh chimpy is out cold. You’re wrong. If you put the chimp in a headlock it would bite a chunk out of your side. If you elbow the chimp in the face it would chew your elbow off. Right on the funny bone. They have a really strong grip. They would tear your flesh off like an over ripe avocado. I’ve spent a lot of time reading about chimp attacks during lockdown. I don’t have anyone to look after. No-one to look after me. So I look after myself. Educate myself on these jungle terrors. One set of chimps attacked a man because they were jealous at being left out of a birthday party. They bit his fucking teeth out. Obviously the pain is indescribable. But what gets me is the noise. You would hear your own teeth, in your own head, being bitten off by a chimp. I think it would be somewhere between a snap and a popping sound. Disgusting. You can toilet train a chimp, you can teach it to drink wine and brush your hair. You could probably train it to fuck you, or you fuck it. But as it gets older it will hate you. Hate you with all the burning, white hot hatred that only chimps can muster. They have no loyalty. They despise humans for their perceived captivity. And not only is their hatred aimed at people, they are just as vicious and vile against their own kind.

One community of chimps in Tanzania attacked another community of chimps. Normally I would applaud anything that resulted in dead chimps, particularly chimp on chimp violence. But, this was so dark, I actually felt a smidge of pity. Old friendly chimps [no such thing, but that is her words] were attacked and destroyed, a chimp called Willy Wally, who had polio of all things, was battered and murdered. In Goodall’s memoir she wrote “Often when I woke in the night, horrific pictures sprang unbidden to my mind. Satan [never a truer name for these godless wretches], cupping his hand below Sniff's chin to drink the blood that welled from a great wound on his face; old Rodolf, usually so benign, standing upright to hurl a four-pound rock at Godi's prostrate body; Jomeo tearing a strip of skin from Dé's thigh; Figan, charging and hitting, again and again, the stricken, quivering body of Goliath, one of his childhood heroes.” Yet people own chimps as pets. What if you’re on your state sanctioned one hour walk and a chimp escapes? And decides that you, shuffling around, trying to buy 12 tins of Manchester Bitter and 40 Marlboro are the target of its ire? We know defending yourself is impossible. Pray for a quick death. Pray that chimpy goes straight for the throat. Don’t take the chance, don’t leave your house. No-one would believe you. “Police!? Help a monkey is attacking me! Arghhh”. Chimps are basically humans before we became self-aware. Every act of murder, rape, incest, cannibalism, and, thievery is our chimp trying to get out. I hate them as I hate evil.

Bloodborne adaptation kinda like a mix of Tarkovsky's STALKER and Apocalypse Now/Heart of Darkness

>Shows that most hunters only get into it out of desperation and to get prior crimes expunged or have debts forgiven.
>Lot of body horror shit showing the long-term effects of blood ministration etc. and how much of a Faustian bargain the whole thing is.
>most of the famous hunters from the game are either PTSD combat junkies or weirdos who just can't hack it in a normal life and that's why they stick around.
>the only reason things even get so bad in Yharnam is because it's a Detroit-esque once-bustling metropolis turned run-down poverty-stricken shithole that was cordoned off as a containment zone after the Hunt cycle started.
>most average citizens despise the hunters for coming in from outside and unceremoniously culling what used to be their loved ones like vermin
>gets more fucked up and degenerate as it goes along
>final confrontation is a hunter who's gone full Kurtz that reveals the Healing Church are secretly perpetuating the cycle to stay powerful and relevant

Thunderbird, definitely. It would be perfect.
American(?) natives believed it to be a spirit, a god, others thought it was mythical until evidence of them arose, it was then believed to be an evolutionary leftover, a living dinosaur, though completely extinct as of just a few thousand years ago.
Maybe it turns out they aren't completely extinct?

Rough proposal for first death of movie:
>Bikers riding, laughing
>Suddenly hear a scream from behind
>Danny?
>Look back
>Danny's motorcycle still rolling behind them, no rider, until it wobbles and falls over
>Leader almost calls everyone to stop, but hears another sound
>Very faint scream again, way high up
>Look up, still driving
>Just a "hawk" overhead, silhouetted against the sun
>Leader almost calls for a stop again, interrupted again by faint but steadily louder scream incoming
>What the fuck is th-
>Danny's body suddenly hits the road in front of them, no time to stop or turn, whole crew mangles him under their wheels

>Victory scene at end of movie, finally shot down giant bird from under cover
>Much rejoice
>Finally go outside to deal with the dying thing
>As the carcass slowly comes into frame, reveal second, larger bird stooped over it, mourning
>Biker steps on some crunchy rocks
>Larger bird suddenly locks huge piercing yellow eyes with camera
>Lunges at camera, screeching

a college student who goes to a party in a abandoned mall, only to find that the party is being hosted by crypt-cultests using the party to lure sacrifices for some eldritch horror. The eldritch horrors don't harm you as long as you are distracted and don't recognize them, but the cultists kill you eventually from not trying to acknowledge the danger. the movie is generally a run and hide from both groups as they try to kill him and his friends. the theme is that as long as you keep yourself distracted with parties, electronics, media, etc, you are not harmed by spiritual horrors, but when you are not, you are harmed by physical horrors. It also has metaphors for the male life or life in general. the mc is brought into the mall from the roof (because all the doors are locked and boarded up) in the fashion of a baby. the mall at first is extremely cold and clean. he goes to the party and finds his crush and high school brother there, after he finds out what is wrong he wakes up the girl to the trouble symbolizing marriage and then they both save his brother from being sacrificed and bring him along (child rearing). Eventually they find a way to make only his brother safe, but as they continue on the girl gets killed (losing your life partner). Over the course of the movie the mall continuously gains a more reddish hue, visually hot, and trashy to symbolize increased awareness of danger as we get older. This leads to the mc accidentally stepping on a shard of glass representing moral affliction like cancer, and he drags himself to a movie theater where unable to escape the eldritch horrors he puts on a comedy movie and trys to immerse himself. the horrors do stop and just stand in the row behind him, but two cultists take the seats next to him with weapons and laugh along with him, eventhough its obvious they are eventually going to kill him. the movie ends with him laughing into the camera obviously paralyzed in fear but unable to do anything about it.

I like this but we need to go weirder.
>No spoken dialogue/monologue
>Dude brushing his teeth at 3 am
>He sees a fly on the wall behind him, in the reflection of the mirror
>Finishes brushing teeth, goes to get fly-swatter/newspaper
>Comes back, sees in reflection fly hasn't moved
>Good
>Turns toward wall, no fly
>Too slow?
>Turns back toward mirror, fly in same spot
>Turns back toward wall, still no fly
>Back to mirror, now there's no fly
>Oh, was just too slow
>In mirror, sees fly buzz over and land on wall beside him this time
>Looks beside him at wall
>No fly
>Back at mirror
>It's right there on the wall, right beside him
>Fly then buzzes over to mirror and lands on it near bottom corner, walking around
>Dude looking as closely as possible
>Just the underside of the fly walking on the mirror
>Looking at it wrong?
>Goes to poke it, super close-up
>Just touches flat glass
>Dude steps back, staring, unblinking, in almost anger/confusion/outrage at fly near bottom corner of mirror
>Expression changes to one of sudden horrible realization
>Ssslllllllllllooooooowwwwwwwllllllllllyyyyyyyy looks up to meet eyes with his own reflection

This is a current screenplay I'm working on.

A young man learns his absent father has died, in the halfway house he was living in, in his old hometown. So, he goes to collect his belongings and maybe gain some closure on their relationship. When he arrives, he discovers that there's something. . .wrong with the town. It's too dilapidated. Too broken.

On going to retrieve his father's belongings from his apartment, he is attacked by strange, bald men in white t-shirts who move like liquid. They know things he doesn't, and want what he hasn't taken, yet.

He ends up getting rescued by a strange drug-dealer woman, who tells him that she was working with his dad to find out about the strange drug that's taken over the town - and made people kill themselves in wildly bizarre ways. It turns out that - oh, that guitar he took from the apartment? That was where the sample was they were using, and that's what the bald men are after.

Around this time, they're pursued by an autistic hit-man, who kills only to make money to further his Pokemon/Sonic/nerd obsession. They turn him to their side.

They learn that the drug is the product of a cult that worships a man called the Doctor, who is older than anything. He's been here forever, a shade of some older evil, finding ways to sow discord where he can. The Drug promises omnipotence, but it's a lie - it's his way inside your head.

Around the halfway mark of the film, the cult poisons the water supply of the town - and, they're trapped in a diner. A long night follows, where one character dies in a horrific, debauched way.

They make their assault on the place they've determined is the source of the Drug. The old abandoned Mall.

They descend into a literal hell - coming in through the underground, over a sea of dead cult members, bodies dessicated and broken.

We find out the Drug is made from the decaying bodies of the cult members, and the blood of the Doctor. But. . .when they reach him, he's not there. Only a bundle of sticks, wrapped in cloth.

Then, he starts to grow, and grow. And grow. And grow. Becoming an unwieldy eldritch monster. They vanquish him in some way.

After the denouement of the film, we see an epilogue - rather than shying away from the Drug, people have adopted it, used it. We see a gigantic mass of people, extending from the downtown area to a tiny hilltop, act as one. . .taking a measured amount of the Drug, and making the ground rise into the sky. There are no more barriers.

At the same time, the main character lets his father's ashes float away, over the highway. The spiraling pattern of the ashes is the same as the floating Earth. . .

The doors to hell open and everyone start to getting crazy. This because there are two types of passages to hell: one is pretty much physical, like tunnels, but they're rare. The other is much more abstract and is invisibile. Many small invisibile black holes that spawn causally on earth that absorb the soul and the mental sanity of whoever is close to them. In short, everyone is scared to death to something invisibile that may appear anytime in their houses

What about a story like a botched Truman show, where a man is kidnapped while unconscious and placed into an entirely fabricated life and convinced that all his previous memories were just a dream. He's cut off from the real world but doesn't know it since they've taken measures to trick him and given him enough "freedom" to the point where he doesn't feel like he's being decieved and held captive. There's actors and everyone is in on it pretending like they know his new identity, he's eventually convinced he was in a coma and his past life was a dream. That's kinda shitty but I feel like someone more creative than me could make that interesting

he slowly discovers that the there has been a mixup as the repaired phone is not his.
he finds depraved violent videos and photos and starts freaking out (like mexican drug cartel type gore).
he then finds that the videos and photos are future dated (like some next week, so dated a few months from now) so freaks out more

the phone company where he sent his original phone to be fixed has gone broke and doesnt exist any more

people are starting to follow him, asking for the phone back

the photos are encrypted and cant be downloaded or uploaded or some shit

he examines the photos to try to get to the bottom of wtf is going on

he looks at a gruesome murder video that is future dated the next day to try see if he an identify anything

the video has a totured person, her head freshly cut off, the video is taken in a bathroom, there is a mirror. in the mirrors reflection is the face of the killer. the face is him.

Something that's inspired by uncanny valley. A real surreal head trip of a film. David Lynch surrealism but with an early internet aesthetic / visual quality.

The videos in this playlist really sum up what I'd like to see more of in a horror film. It could be a really simple and conventional narrative but executed in a completely weird and surreal way. No conventional jumpscares, no conventional scary faced monsters, no overly dark shadowy cinematography, and minimal gore. Just weird hometape style disturbing stuff. Horror films these days (mainstream ones particularly) are so by-the-numbers it's insulting to the viewers and quite frankly boring. Everyone is sick of these films. I'd be a lot more disturbed by a horror film if it was just this weird imagery without context constantly happening and completely alienating the viewers rather than putting them through a theatrical and cheesy rollercoster romp.

Building on this idea I'd like to see something that features a creepy human story like a classic kidnapping, rape, torture and murder situation. There's a lot of interesting and disturbing crime history in America in the 1970s and 80s which occurred after the hippie movement had loosened the nation and suddenly everyone is cool with hitchhiking in a stranger's truck across the country on their own. So many cultural elements of that period really lend a hand to dark and violent crimes that could take place. Think about the most disturbing crimes of the last decade. Most of them are mass shooting type events or terrorist attacks. The era of murderers, kidnappers and serial killers was definitely in that 70s-80s era which is why the stereotypical pedophile always looks like a middle-aged man with a thick, bushy moustache, those aviator glasses, a balding combover, tight shirt, jeans and casual shoes / leather boots.

So I'd like to see a film that's set in an older time I'd say no earlier than the 70s, but probably somewhere in the late 80s to capture a homevideo quality to the style of the film. It'd be about a young girl who gets kidnapped by two men and exploited to their sick fetishes all the while she's trying to escape from their lair which is a cabin or a shack in the middle of the woods. She'd be put through a lot of sick and twisted situations (particularly rape, physical abuse, torture, being dressed up in outfits and being passed around by a larger group of men). As the film progresses it only becomes more surreal and bizarre with lots of uncanny valley imagery like cripples in strange costumes appearing, and the sets will be designed with lots of dolls, clowns, and other seemingly innocent children's decor and imagery but made to be weirder. Though a conventional narrative structure wouldn't be as appealing as a non-linear and fractured presentation of the film to give us even less context confusing and disorientating viewers.

>1473
>War of the Roses is in full swing
>a Plantagenet loyal castle with a full court is besieged by a Lancaster Army
>very early into siege so shit isn't completely fucked up
>Evening
>the lord is poisoned at dinner
>like cyanide style poisoning where it's real fucked
>cunts start talking over who did it
>after a while the court general winds up being found stabbed
>cunts start accusing each other of treachery
>deaths have been both high ranking Plantagenet loyalists so there's major suspicion of newcomers or ex Lancasters.
>next up 2 cunts are found stabbed
>one wound is shallow
>the other goes clean through him
>one was one of the lord's sons, but the other was the court jester, who once was the jester for Lady Margery but turned coat to sell information
>and both were killed in separate chambers
>therefore now there are 2 cutthroats at work, and while the war is outside, the same war is breaking out inside.

Will there be a scene of Tarantino drinking tequila from a Mexicans foot?
>>
>>134230281
sounds like Ned Kelly but in a contemporary setting

I'm a big fan of rocks/mountains/geological features with magical or reality-bending qualities. Kind of like picnic at hanging rock or that manga where people drrrr drrrr. Something about ancient rocks calling people to them or claiming them mixed with gravity anomalies or spacetime anomalies. The movie can start with a friendly couple already hiking to a really remote rock outcropping and the girl getting bent out of shape or being turned into something that doesnt resemble a human.

>parents dismiss the claims
>things get stranger and violent acts start happening
>kid visits religious friends house
>gets exposition saying this supernatural race has taken an interest in him
>kids in his year start dying
>works out that the only way to stop people from dying is to live in isolation
>moves out to the mountains
>seems happy
>has a dog
>settles in for the night
>wind begins to howl
>as the movie ends you see shadows move past the window

On a routine interstellar voyage aboard a single-manned spacecraft, our character awakes from hypersleep to find his ship dysfunctional and located within a void hundreds of millions of light years away from the known universe. Our character attempts to discern the nature of his situation while working on the malfunctioning ship whose behavior is becoming increasingly more bizarre and sinister, all the while coping with the utter panic, dread, and sheer isolation as reality falls apart around him.

I can see the similarities, but in this case the portals would become mainstream, everyone would be affected, and only by cumulative effect do symptoms start to show. People would use them inside the house for menial stuff. The movie could be about a boy who uses portals too much (on account of His autofelatio addiction), and he basically becomes possessed and first tortures and kills his little sister, then his dad... And the mother(who was a portal truther from the beginning) is left alone to cope. In the end she has to eviscerate her son to save him.

That would be actually horrific considering how fucked up fetuses look compared to actual babies.

>You're not gonna get a very authentic and scaled up castle set horror for less than say, 60M in this day and age
You're a fucking moron. You can literally buy a castle in Scotland for less than £1m, nevermind rent one for a couple of weeks.
Advances in cgi also mean that recreating one in a soundstage isn't particularly difficult.

I remember reading his book where he talks about this. One of the problems with it according to him was that he arbitrarily made one of the tools look like a saw, making everyone think the others were all everyday tools and they just had to figure out what each was to get the joke.
Probably the worst joke he ever made, it's amazing it became a pre-internet meme.
