I was wondering if anyone here has had recent experience getting multiple 90 day Vietnamese visas in a year. Is flying to somewhere like Chiang Mai and back better than a bus to Laos? How much time should I spend out of the country?

get an evisa and fly out and back

Isn’t the tourist visa 30 days?

It was expanded to 90 days earlier this year

Immediately works? I don't mind staying in Thailand or Malaysia for a week.

I'm in Hanoi and I've flown to Bangkok and back for my visa runs. It seems to be the cheapest option.

Do you always leave Vietnam exactly when the visa ends? My issue is, I might want to stay in Vietnam for 2 months, then a few days in Thailand and then 3 months in Vietnam. Exiting the country the first time would nullify the original vida and allow me to apply for a new one? Ty

The 90 day tourist visa they just started doing again allows for multiple entries, much like your mom does, so if your wanted to go to Thailand for a few days and come back, you'd still have until the end of your first visa. Until very recently the tourist visas were just 30 days and single entry so it's a great change.

From what I saw, you can either pay for a single entry or a multiple entry visa. The expanded time frame of 90 days may have been accompanied by a crackdown on foreign residency in Vietnam via unlimited tourist visa renewals. You might have your little border-hopping scheme all worked out, but the Viets could easily say "no" to giving you another 90 days in the country, and then what?

Yeah I don't know about that, but I have a work permit now so I'm good.

I just go to Thailand or Malaysia? Kind of the easiest place in the world to find cheap alternatives if plans get screwed up. Anyway the plan is just 2 visas per year as I'm spending 6mo in India

What possible reason could a country have for doing this, if the person in question is spending money there and staying out of trouble? I'm not saying they wouldn't, I'm just asking why they would, because I don't know.

not that guy but I tend to travel very cheaply and have fun trying to live like a local. Somewhere like Vietnam doesn't exactly have the best housing situation so I could see how some tourists wouldn't be as appreciated

what do you do? teach eigo? Im thinking of coming and want to live in da nang. Any advice?

not that guy but Da Nang is a great little city. Plenty of cool things to see in a 30min motorbike ride
