I think it makes sense, it'll be good for both companies, and while I think we'll get a little less in the way of new coasters every year, I think they'll put a little extra effort into landscaping and making the parks look nice. They'll probably bring some nicer food to the Six Flags parks. I also don't think they're going to start calling them Six Flags Kings Island or anything like that. Some of the parks Six Flags owns just have "A Six Flags Park" in small print under the name, and I think it's more likely that's what we'll see. I'm optimistic about this.

Corporate mergers are never good for the consumer, they almost always leads to monopolization, increased prices, lower quality among other things. I don't think there will be a dissolution of one company (ie: six flags parks operating under a cedar fair banner) as it would be a huge cost to do so, but i feel the parks may be run differently under the new banner. All we can do is wait and see

With CF getting 6flags's IP rights there may be more crossovers in that regard, but we'll see if they shove IPs all over the place like Disney have done before.

Apparently Cedar Fair's CEO will be in charge and HQ will be moving to Carowinds territory, so it does appear that CF will be the ones primarily steering the ship despite the Six Flags branding being prioritized. I do have faith that the TLC CF provides towards (most of) its properties will help elevate the quality of the SF parks rather than vice versa.

Top execs are mostly CF execs. Corporate offices are in Charlotte (and some Sandusky) which is CF’s corporate offices. Stock trades under CF’s FUN. CF shareholders get 51%. They said SF parks will get the CF treatment. But they keep the name Six Flags for the whole company because it’s more well known. This is a merger but it’s more or less CF acquiring SF and not paying for it. I’m assuming this makes the combined company the largest water park operator too.

Since Old Time Christmas is running as of last weekend and it gets dark early now, it's probably the best opportunity all year to get SDC's night rides. I personally recommend trying to get a ride on Time Traveler while one of the parades is running. Whether you time it right or not, just seeing the lights in the City from Time Traveler is worth it.

I really hope they go easy with DC and Looney Tunes but the CEO Zimmerman said that IP is important and they got 3 IPs to leverage across all their properties. That means it's coming. What parks do you think Six Flags/Cedar Fair will keep post-merger? Probably no changes in the first year after it's approved. After that, I think they'll sell the ones owned by EPR which is Darien Lake, Frontier City and a few water parks. Possibly La Ronde but not Mexico because Mexico has high attendance. The only Cedar Fair park I see going is CGA as its fate is already sealed despite wishful thinking about zoning, even more so after the merger because of the higher-attended SFDK even if they serve different markets. Great Escape, America, and St. Louis just need some love. Speaking of love, I hope they make MM great again. Fresh coats of pain, less trash, less advertising, TC always dueling, every coaster running. Contract B&M to refurbish Goliath into a better coaster.

Having done this in the past, I wouldn't call it amazing. It's like the Halloween event but with cookies. Just decorations, fireworks, and a special parade. They don't even do the castle ice lights anymore. A lot of regional parks put on a much more impressive event and it's usually included with standard admission. It may have been worth it over a decade ago when it was much cheaper, you could unofficially get in at 4pm, and there were no lines for rides during event hours.

La Ronde (doing business in Canada is annoying, sits on prime real estate in Montreal)
Dorney (squeezed between Hershey and Great Adventure)
America (near KD, already considered the worst SF park)
Michigan's Adventure (Located between Great America and Cedar Point in the middle of nowhere, hasn't gotten anything of note in almost 25 years)
Darien Lake (forgotten)
Great Escape (forgotten)
That water park in Galveston (an outlier)

One item of note is that the company will probably want to pony up the cash to buy out the investors who actually own part of all of SFOT and SFOG. SF already owns 54% of Over Texas and when the current lease comes up in 2028 they have the opportunity to buy the remainder. In 2027 the company will have the opportunity to buy the Georgia park outright when that deal comes up for renewal. Selling some of the other parks could free up capital to fund those purchases. Just speculating though. They may elect to continue operating under the current arrangement.

Magic Mountain
Kings Island
Great Adventure
Great America
Over Georgia
Carowinds
Knott’s Berry Farm
Kings Dominion
Canada’s Wonderland
Fiesta Texas
Over Texas

These are all great (or have the potential to be great) parks and will see the most investment. This is in somewhat descending order with the bottom being lesser than the top but the order could change based on their investments.

Discovery Kingdom, St. Louis, Mexico (maybe?) and New England are probably safe. I think Dorney is safe too, it gets over 1 million guests annually despite being near Hershey and not far from SFGAdv. It pulls more from the locals (aka nobody is driving to Dorney from NY like they do to SFGAdv) and has a water park. Hard to predict how the water parks will fare because aside from finding life guards they seem to be cheap to operate and you can never have enough of them. Like SFOG has both White Water (which was Herschend's once upon a time) 20 miles away and Hurricane Harbor next to the park .

Future is in doubt for the lease agreement parks they don't have an ownership in. La Rond (also for the reasons you stated), Frontier City, Darien Lake. Darien Lake is very close to Waldemeer and a park in Rochester not to mention CW, Kennywood and arguably Cedar Point within relatively short driving distance. If Michigan's Adventure is profitable they'll keep it. Great Escape is a resort and has no nearby competition. America is the worst park but still gets over 1 million guests a year for some reason so who knows. Valleyfair has no real competition aside from the tiny mall park so it stays. World's of Fun... I guess it's kinda close to St. Louis but not really. They should sell that one to Herschend. RIP CGA

I hate that Fiesta Texas gets so much attention when SFOT is a better park overall, although it needs some work. The original sections of the park still have good theming and shade, but the Gotham area has zero landscaping, just flat asphalt under the scorching Texas sun. OT has the first mine train and first log flumes, it looks like a cozy place overall, SFFT not really.

I'm sure it brings in a profit, all of them do. But they might not bring in enough money to be worth keeping around... just more mouths to feed. Michigan's Adventure hasn't had a substantial investment in so long that it makes me wonder if it's really bringing in visitors. I believe CF bought it just to cap potential competition to CP, like SFWoA (remember that one?). With Great America and CP locked up I don't see a point to it. However the land value can't be worth much. It's an ugly little park from what I've seen though.

Michigan's Adventure isn't that ugly, it's got a little lake giving it a nice look. It's not close to Gurnee or Sandusky, both are over 4 hours away and there are no other parks in Michigan (SE Michigan goes to CP for sure though). If it's not profitable they'll get rid of it but I doubt anybody else would buy it. They extended their schedule for Halloween this year but it's not on next year's calendar which isn't a good sign. Maybe Palace would be interested. Or Merlin could turn it into a Legoland but doubtful since it's in the middle of nowhere... but then again so are some of the other Legolands. The limited operating season is a big negative though.

WoF is in a similar position to MA but with higher attendance from a larger metro area, however, that area is only just over 2 million so it's never going to see significant investment. I was just thinking since Herschend already operates in the state, there might be some interest as they operate two similar small parks (KK and GA). They're going to need some cash. The St. Louis metro population is close to 3 million and SF St. Louis has sometimes gotten 1.5 million annually which to me is kinda impressive.

Iron Rattler is better than New Texas Giant. Both are forgotten RMCs because they were the first conversions. To be fair, if modern RMC did the NTG conversion today it would probably rival Steel Vengeance.

I don't have a horse in this race, I think the two Texas parks are comparable in terms of overall coaster quality with FT getting the slight edge. I also personally like the quarry rock wall. It will be interesting to see where all the top parks will be in 5-10 years after the merger.

Herschend's finally investing in Wild Adventures at least. They cleaned it up, added a concert venue, and in a couple weeks are debuting a Christmas event. They're adding a campground and something to replace Cheetah that better be an RMC. They started serving alcohol too, their only park to do so. But no cinnamon bread yet. It just got a new wooden coaster, before it they received Prowler (GCI woodie) and Patriot (B&M invert) before that. And it does have a decent Morgan hyper. They don't get new coasters often but CF saw fit to give them something nice every 7-10 years, which is far ahead of the investment they've deigned to give MA, and that says a lot about the financial health of each - parks that make the most, get the most.

Neither of those parks make anywhere near the most, they're both lower tier CF parks with WoF fighting over the next-to-last place along with Dorney, Valleyfair, and CGA. MA being last of course. And there were 14 years between Prowler and GCI Zambezi Zinger. It's worth pointing out that CF has invested in all the lower tier parks (including MA) over the past decade plus, just not with coasters (until ZZ). Flat rides, kids areas, restaurants, seasonal events and festivals, GCI or GG re-tracking parts of their aging woodies, etc.

Endless Summer but vaguely scifi...

Their high end hotels are nice but Universal are so far behind Disney in their cheaper resorts. No immersion, terrible quick service options. Not to mention splitting the resorts up and fencing you in, making walking anywhere from them irrirating.

Their higher end hotels are really good though. Possibly the nicest room I've ever had in the US.

Depends what you want I suppose. You get a much nicer hotel for less money outside of the Universal/Disney resorts, you're paying for theming, atmosphere and "the bubble". I only walked through Endless Summer (was picking up a hire car) but it just felt like a standard mid range hotel.

Stayed at Pop Century and it just had more of a holiday atmosphere than I felt from Endless Summer. Royal Pacific was extremely nice (the Luao was good too) and had a good immersive atmosphere though.

Yeah, and it's never going to get it. Not when they own Great Adventure now. My guess is that the new Six Flags will focus most of their investment over the next decade on the two Texas parks as well as Six Flags Over Georgia because of population trends. They'll probably keep investing in Carowinds too for the same reason (and wasn't there tax benefits?). Great Adventure will probably get more attention since it usually has the highest attendance in the chain; year-round parks don't do much better despite being open year-round.

Speaking of year-round parks, I do wonder if they would ever consider selling Knott's. On one hand it's a year-round stream of cash with high attendance. On the other hand, the land is probably worth more than the park on top of it and the park itself is probably worth a lot to the right buyer. Maybe Disney is still interested. Not sure if the Peanuts license is still attached. Probably would never happen but it would go a long way at solving their debt problems.

There are several large timeshare properties very close by that almost always have availability and can be booked like any other hotel. You can usually get a 2 bedroom villa with a kitchen for less than Disney's value. These have more amenities than most Disney hotels and usually some sort of water park area like a lazy river. You need a car though, most don't have shuttles and if they do they aren't like the ones at Disney.

Most US amusement/theme parks are open daily from late May to September (coinciding with out Memorial Day to Labor Day holidays which unofficially bookend summer). Cedar Point opens in early May but is closed a couple weekdays until Memorial Day, then after Labor Day it switches to Thurs-Sun through October. The best hotel to stay at is their own Breakers right next to the park (as in you walk right next door to it using a back entrance). Plus it’s on a nice beach which has a bunch of activities. It’s like a Florida beachfront hotel. Only problem is the crowds and the bugs. And you’ll need to rent a car and drive over an hour to get there from the Cleveland airport (or longer if you fly in elsewhere). And if you visit Cedar Point you might as well take the 3 hour drive south and visit Kings Island too. If you’re an amusement park fan you could plan a trip around all the parks within short driving distance from each other

California’s Great America has almost the same attendance and that park is closing. MM has a lot of coasters but on any given day they can’t even run them all. To be fair this could change under the merger with Cedar Fair basically running these parks. Yep. Intamin doesn't even make hydraulic launched coasters anymore. Hydraulic and pneumatic launches need to be launched from a stand still and the launch system needs time to reset and prepare for the next launch. These might make for more intense launches but they cannot be used for multi-launch coasters. There are more than enough of these around if you want to experience that kind of a standstill launch but I think it's peaked. Dodonpa snapping necks means there should be a limit on these things anyways. Xcelerator and Storm Runner have the same launch intensity (the 'punch' gforces) as TTD and Ka. Some say Xcelerator is more intense. If you want something more, there is Maxx Force. Enjoy them while you can because they probably won't be around in 20 years.

TTD could have been scrapped. Instead they converted it to a magnetic swing launch with a vertical spike as tall as the top hat. Less moving parts and friction. The launch system is also a brake system. Etc. It should be more reliable in theory but Zamperla is unproven, the lightning trains haven't been used before, and their fast launch is also new and unproven. If this thing is reliable and smooth, ride Ka while you can. Green Lantern is in the way though but that wasn't an issue for Iron Dragon

Been closed since the park closed for Covid in 2020. Surprised it’s coming back but they did a lot of refurbishment work, hopefully will keep it going for years. There were 10 Von Roll sky rides still in operation as of a few years ago. Probably less know. I know of this one, Busch Williamsburg one, Great Adventure, and Cedar Point.

They did. Many of the Disney America concepts were reworked for DCA. Euro Disneyland's failure was the real reason they cancelled it and not so much the protesters. But even if they made it, it would probably have been a cheap DCA-like version compared to the concepts. First of all, even if Six Flags gets Cedar Fair to work with RMC again, no way in hell they're trusting them with a launched coaster after how Lightning Rod turned out, let alone a shuttle coaster, which RMC has never done. Secondly, I'm pretty sure clearance regulations have to account for a rider with both arms fully outstretched, so a single rail wouldn't be able to do much more than a normal coaster, layout-wise.
