I'm from the Charleston area.
If you like history, there's Fort Sumter, carriage tours, plantations, significant graves, and historical houses.
Aquarium is mid but it's there.
There are dinner cruises where you eat dinner on a boat for an evening. I've heard mixed reviews but I'm sure you know what you like. You have to reserve in advance.
Don't visit rainbow row it's not that great.
Lot's of water around it: chartering boats, paddelboarding, kayaking, jet skis, sailing.
You can rent a bike if you want to see a lot of the city really quickly. I went to "The Bicycle Shoppe" near Marion Square. DO NOT try to bike Ravenel bridge on these, they are single speed and you will fucking die (I've done it).
If you consider shopping something to do there's the normal luxury fashion bullshit. If you want something SC specific you can try Palmetto Moon.
Lots of expensive restaurants near "The Charleston Place" hotel. Only been to Magnolia. The duck was really salty.
Rodney Scott's is a really famous bbq restaurant.
The College of Charleston exists.

Are you insane? Any walk through the old town will inevitably accidentally have you passing them at least once. So should they specifically avoid the old town? I'm not saying they need to line up and take a pic but Geez Louise really, don't go at all even if you're meandering the old town and stumble upon it?

BTW magnolia plantation and gardens is pretty cool and don't forget to go to Audburn swamp gardens when there. Lots of people skip it/don't know it exists. It's a swamp where you can see some alligators. It's on the plantation property.
