Magnum XL-200 editionPrevious Thread: >>2405537>What is this thread?/rcg/ was created as a way for the roller coaster enthusiasts on here to discuss all things roller coasters and theme parks. While roller coasters are the main focus of these threads, there is also discussion on other theme park rides, as well as the parks themselves and trip planning too.>Can I talk about Disney/Universal in this thread?Absolutely! Disney discussion of all sorts including resorts/dining/trip planning is OK.Thread Pro-tip: The stairs next to the lift hill on roller coasters are purpose built and 100% entirely meant for park guests to climb up and take photos from up high.Roller Coaster Database:>https://rcdb.com/Amusement Park News Sites:>https://www.themeparkinsider.com/>https://www.screamscape.com/>https://www.coaster101.com/Disney Park News:>https://www.wdwnt.com/>https://www.wdwmagic.com/>https://www.allears.net/>https://www.mousesteps.com
>>2423126I like Magnum but I wish Cedar Point also had a clamshell restraint B&M hyper. In addition to Magnum, not in place of it. They can have such small footprints, like Magnum does, so space isn't really an issue and it could even hug the overflow lot next to Valravn. Among many other potential spots without getting rid of anything. Management problem feels it's redundant because of Magnum but they're not the same. Management would probably also say to go to Kings Island if you want that since they technically have two of them if you count Orion (and B&M counts it).
Finally, it's Pete Time.
>>2423326I do want to go to Disney parks again, but the Florida parks seem way too crowded and stressful. The California parks seem doable. I want to go to Knott's too.
>>2423344The California parks are also way too crowded and stressful. Disneyland doesn't have the infrastructure to support its crowds, it's too tiny and cramped and creates massive bottlenecks in spots like by where Adventureland meets New Orleans Square. It always has but much worse now. Knotts is also more crowded than in years past due to the locals being priced out of Disneyland going to Knotts.
How do y'all rank the Florida B&M loopers Hulk, Kraken and Kumba? All three have similar specs except Hulk is a little shorter but makes up for it with the launch which the other two lack. All three have mostly the same elements in a different layout order. All three have been known to bang your head and cause headaches.I'm gonna say 1. Hulk, 2. Kraken, 3. Kumba. I think Kraken has a better layout and better pacing. Also no MCBR which is nice. Being floorless doesn't really do anything IMO. Hulk's first half is better with the launch followed by one element after another but it meanders through the rest of its layout after the vertical loop tunnel and it's out of gas after the MCBR. But boy is that first half great. Kumba is okay and I still think it's pretty smooth for its age. Photogenic corkscrews and an inversion over the left hill. Better pacing than Hulk but I still prefer the other two.
>>2423377I didn't ride Kumba when I was in Florida sadly, but I rode Hulk and Kraken and I liked Hulk way more. Kraken knocked my head around too much. Hulk did too, but it didn't bother me as much as Kraken did. And I rode them both in the front row for comparison.
>>2423377Kraken does have a mid course block brake, but in the vid I watched looks like it provides minimal if any braking.
>>2423387Both would benefit from vest restraints IMO but they probably don't have the room for them in the station or the course. Kraken almost never has a line so I doubt they'll ever invest in it again. They say to tilt your head forward and it works but holding your head defensively in that position the whole time isn't very fun.>>2423388Huh. I didn't notice it, must have been off. I wish the one on Hulk was the final brake run.
>>2423408> They say to tilt your head forward and it works but holding your head defensively in that position the whole time isn't very fun.I'm used to doing that on Mystery Mine at Dollywood and so I don't really think about it there. I still have a great time on that ride, but it's true, it would be better if you didn't have to do that.
>>2423408>Huh. I didn't notice it, must have been off. That's how they should be. Watch a video of Goliath at SFMM and check out how much that one is programmed to slow down trains.

>Thread Pro-tip: The stairs next to the lift hill on roller coasters are purpose built and 100% entirely meant for park guests to climb up and take photos from up high.can confirm
>>2423458Looks fun but I'd prefer to not to get kicked out of my favorite park for life. What are those things laying on the right? They don't look like the water things they look like Halloweekends props. I always figured this was where SteVe's carpenters were at.
>>2423466they store Halloween props back therethe lumber shop is out of frame to the right of that building behind the mcbr which is where they make all the signs for the park
>>2423418Just watched it. That's fucking terrible. The one I watched it comes to a stop. All that giant drop speed for nothing. I know B&M used to work at Giovanola and borrowed their track style but I guess I'll stop complaining about their own MCBRs. Never been stopped on theirs.. though that's always a possibility. On a side note I hate how SF has all these coasters named Goliath with nothing in common.
>>2423481Generally the park sets the operating parameters (within reason). If I remember correctly, when Goliath opened it didn't trim trains much going into the helix and people didn't like how strong the G's were in it, so the park changed the braking to what it is now. But even if it was untrimmed it's not a good ride.
>>2423126My dear sweet Magnum!
>>2423483Only thing that seems noteworthy about it is it held the drop height record for 3 months until Millennium Force opened up. But the drop angle for MM Goliath is only 60 degrees
tron ride at magic kingdom soft opens on monday>Access to the attraction will be via a Virtual Queue or Lightning Lane access via Individual purchase, using My Disney Experience. A standby queue will not be available. Each Guest can request to enter the virtual queue no more than once per day throughout regular park hours during the soft opening.>7:00 AM (Guests do not need to be in the park when they join, but must have a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom park)1:00 PM (Guests must be in Magic Kingdom park to join the virtual queue)
>No Dial of Destiny shit in the Indy refurb, just replacing the rat shadows scene with a projection mapping effect of Mara's energy bolts destroying a potential escape routeThank god.
>>2423609Why is the building so far out the way? Guessing Tron will still be boarding pass when I go in Sept, hoping GotG won't be though.
>>2423650Thank you for explaining what was happening. I watched 3 videos trying to understand what is happening in the replaced rat branch moment.
>>2423609Whoever invented this virtual queue system needs to be “enriched” by a cartel in Mexico. You have a 1-2 second window to get it right at 7am and another 1-2 second chance in the park. Apparently with Guardians it was less popular than Rise so you had more of a chance but this Tron coaster is probably gonna be Rise VQ bullshit again. At least at first. It’s awful, I complained and got comped passes but they wouldn’t get us on the ride. I complained again via a letter because the passes were unacceptable since they used Rise in their marketing for the park. Rode Rise eventually and was underwhelmed anyways but still. The VQ is garbage and needs to be exterminated
Icon Park drop tower being carefully dismantled this past week. If they were going to scrap it they would just take a torch to it like CF did with Volcano and Wicked Twister.I keep reading remarks about it being disrespectful and tone deaf to ask if it will show up some place else. But nobody is stating the obvious, white people are only saying this because he was black. In 1999 a 12-year-old white kid died falling out of the Intamin drop tower at CA Great America. It still operates to this date. “For some reason” white people get all weird and sensitive when it comes to blacks.
>>2423979Some park somewhere will buy that drop ride, it's almost brand new.I think the difference between both of those incidents is that the one at Great America happened nearly 25 years ago and the moment of splat wasn't recorded and seen by millions of people instantly. The kid in California was also mentally and physically disabled, he weaseled out of his restraint as it was ascending. There wasn't a mechanical malfunction nor an operator error. It was purely the result of his own actions and his guardians' for putting him on it.The drop tower at Kentucky Kingdom was dismantled shortly after it severed that girl's feet, and she lived. That was due to both a mechanical problem and perhaps operator error as well, so it's basically indefensible and there was no chance the public would trust the safety of the ride again.
Why nobody make this type of fall tower anymore? Is it because is just a janky mess? Like i don't see them being built no more and this one is 25 year old but knowing the park they bought it from another park and it's way older. Anyway, i like them, pretty fun
>>2424089Nevermind, the ride is actually open there from 2007, they are just bad at keeping their ride in good shape. But my point stands
>>2424089They take up a huge amount of space and aren't as impressive as top hat launch coasters
>>2424089intamin stopped making that model in the 90sit's kind of a miracle that there's still any left operating with how janky they are
>>2424001Yeah you’re probably right. I still say the race thing is playing a part in people’s reactions. White people have the tendency to publicly put on an over the top empathy display for “not racist” points. The ride is still safe under normal restraint positions and I would still ride it. Oh well. They’re always falcon’s fury which also does the tilt thing and is over 300ft tall. When I was at BGT a few weeks ago they were working on it. Hopefully it’s close
>>2424101They hurt too. When it goes horizontal on your back. I hated it at Cedar Point but the nostalgia idiot in me would stop at Dorney just to ride it again. I’ll wait til their dive coaster opens.
>>2424104yeah I only rode the one at cedar point once ever and I remember it being uncomfortable. Other drop rides are just betterspeaking of which Cedar Point needs to get a real drop tower, Power Tower is kind of meh imo even tho it's kind of an iconic ride
>>2424089>Why nobody make this type of fall tower anymore? It was designed before magnetic brakes were available. That's why it has a horizontal runout. They're complex and have a lot of moving parts compared to later drop towers.
>>2424107Agreed. It’s kinda an eyesore too. I do like the spaceshot side more than the drop side but I like how Dr. Doom at IoA shoots you up twice now.
Was there ever any indication what Universal did with the Kongfrontation animatronics?
>>2423946Tron's going to be less popular than Guardians after the first month or so I think
>>2424174Agreed. But not at first. At least the average “Pooh-sized” (kek) fan will be filtered out
>>2423126>roller coaster enthusiastsgod damn mad children. roller coasters are for kids. i bet you still eat cotton candy too
>>2424183>i bet you still eat cotton candy too
>>2424183>roller coaster enthusiastAHEMi prefer the term "thoosie" thank you very much
>>2424195>Coaster StudiosHe's the archetypal zoomer thoosie but still not as bad as an average TPR member
>>2424200Is it more TPR members or just Robb being himself?either way i will never miss an opportunity to clown either tbhonest
>>2424111>>2424101I think this park keep it just for attention grab, but knowing they just added another fall tower (a very shitty and noisy one) maybe they will tear it down. Feels bad man, looks really cool>>2424094It take a lot of space but wide size they are pretty tiny, but i guess there are better way to use that space, like a coaster
>>2424183At the prices theme parks charge for it?!?
>>2424200>look up PoV for an obscure coaster>TPR logo shows>go look for another one>it's the only oneAt least you can turn the volume down I suppose.
>>2424001the orc died because he was too fat.
>>2424102it's boomers and self haters that care about orcs
Not sure what I expected but this PoV makes this entire ride concept just look a bit dull.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ic_tRRjV4OEEven the splash seems a bit forced.
>>2424445Agreed, but POVs make a lot of fun rides look dull. I would imagine that one splash is a neat trick on a hot day. So long as you’re not wearing shoes with socks
>>2424218>Is it more TPR members or just Robb being himself? His site's members were insufferable simps when it was at its peak>>2424290I know that feel. Sometimes I just say fuck it, guess I'm not going to see that one
>>2424290It’s okay if they’re steady. Coasterforce is so fucking inconsistent in terms of steadiness
>>2424621I don't like the little logo screen with the screams before each video, it's just a bit too long and a bit too shrill if you watch more than one video at a time
>>2424638Yeah. I just fast forward through that… and the lift hill (unless there’s a launch)
>>2424701>Yeah. I just fast forward through that…I do too it's just an annoyance like any other channel with a title screen I have to get through. Not video related but I don't like it when parks have a recorded safety spiel that plays on speakers while a train is going up the lift. It detracts from the experience and no one listens to them anyway (like automatic spiels in the station). I guess it's a legal or insurance company requirement.
>>2424702Weird. Which park(s) does that?
For me it's eating an overpriced cheeseburger listening to this lil nigga
>>2424949When I worked at WDW they claimed Cosmic Ray's was the busiest and most efficient fast food operation in the world. That was over 20 years ago though. The burgers tasted better back then too. We at there a few years ago and the burger had Mickey burned on the bun and flamin Cheeto dust. Looked nice but the burger itself was flavorless garbage with almost a s o y texture
>>2424174Tron's going to be a dud. Wrong park for it, MK demographic is families with small children. A lot of normal-sized riders don't like the sitting position. Children can't ride. Fatties have to shamefully queue up for a special seat. It should have went somewhere in Epcot.
