Is this a dumb idea? China are not currently offering any tourist visas but you can apply for an X1 student visa if you study for more than 1 semester. I was thinking of applying to a 1 year course (fees are <2k and cost of living isn't bad) at a Chinese University. I am unvaccinated but I figured if I am willing to get tested it shouldn't be a big issue now China is moving away from zero covid.

Go to Taiwan instead; it's better.
>>
>>2395796
I want to experience life in urban China. Taiwan seems quite westernized and boring in comparison to somewhere like Chongqing , and offers none of the impressive futuristic biome shit that Singapore has.
>>
>>2395784
Not a dumb idea. Doing it right now, it's based.
>>2395803
Go somewhere other than Shanghai though if you find Taiwan westernized and boring.
>>
>>2395833
what city are you in? can the unvaccinated get by?
>>
>>2395834
I'm in Shanghai. You could theoretically "get by" if you managed to get into the country; AFAIK they still require vaccines (if you don't want mRNA just get one of theirs from a different country/J&J)
>>
>>2395784
I want to do this for my masters in statistics, good idea?

That's because of the toxic identity politics spread by America politicians and it's media.
>>
>>2395784
It's smart and way better than the weeb/jap choice.

I highly suggest going for Mandarin and being in somewhat a business env, e.g. shanghai or such.

Vaccinations can be whatever, you only need a doctor note, and not a covid passport - take that as you will.

Suggesting to not have covid or lie about shots is a bannable offense on /trv/, so, I am not advocating that at all jannies.
>>2395837
Worthless if you're a westerner. A masters in Chinaland is worth less then shit.
>>2395844
It depends, if you'e black or african yes, if you're white, no, if you're blonde and blue eyed you are a good.
>>2395849
Not really, most Chinese like americans because they enjoy the goyslop of NCAA, and other shit. Granted those are the niggers of Chinea but they can be great new friends in a new country.

It's great to make friends, business and learn the langauge but you need to resist the urge to coom, prostitution is cheap in the country, not even $20-30 USD and if you're in skyscraper city, you start at the top and walk down - I've made great friend sjust waiting for the elvator for this lol but if you're going for school/uni don't fuck the students too much. long term gf, and cheating on the side is *Acceptable*.

Taiwan isn't westernized. If you've never been to Asia for long you won't notice the difference.
Singapore may be a "super cool cyberpunk biome" but that's also because going outside during the day is nigh unbearable all year for long periods of time. Taipei on the other hand only has that going on during summer. It's not necessarily better than China, but if you're applying for chinese study scholarships, don't limit your options to the mainland. >>2395875
Dont worry too much about what you'll look like. I've seen some black dude fuck more women than good looking dudes just because the former had game. Just don't be fat.
>>
>>2395883
'Westernized' was the wrong word, but there are many cumskins and expats there. I want to go somewhere more immersive for a year to really get a taste of chinese culture. I was thinking Qingdao or Chongqing, Chengu and Hangzhou maybe also. The cost of living is also lower in 2nd tier mainland cities.
I hope to not see many black or fat people at all
>>
>>2395985
Chinese colture doesn't exist anyomore in mainland, got all deleted.
They'll see you as a cash bag while being racist (like most asia) but way worse. Chinese are very cold and cruel population. Never going back.

My unvaccinated mother could get a visa and enter China in August 2022 when restrictions were crazy. So yes. You can go to China without any jab.
>>
>>2396011
what visa though? that is encouraging regardless
>>
>>2396014
Family visit visa. But yeah, regardless of any type of visa, back then it officially said “to bring a vaccine certificate IF possible”, not must.

yeah it is. Taiwan is a mix if china, japan, and the west.
>>2395844
they think everyone white is american. so they mostly care about you being american. unless your skin is any other shade. (i've asked 2 different mainlanders and they both told me this)

all you'd do is throw your money away to get a shitty degree not even worth the paper it's printed on.

Have you ever been there ? Jesus christ dude. You gotta start doing some real research and stop listening to whatever shitty /pol/ rants you find on 4chan. Fucking delusional.

>yeah it is. Taiwan is a mix if china, japan, and the west.
And China is a mix of itself and Japan, and the west. And so is Japan with China and the west. The admixture is slightly different depending on the country but the western part is practically the same for all.

You larpers should at least spend more than a week in the places you talk about before you open it and talk utter shit.
>>
>>2396011
Fair enough. I went back in January 2022 and they asked for proof. Maybe it was only proof that you had two doses if you took it. You might be right.

Just wait until they open up. Chinas economy depends on tourism, they will open up fully soon.

I already have a degree, I'd be going there to do a 1 year intensive language learning program at a University there. I wouldn't go to China to do a bachelors/masters degree.
>>
>>2396222
I quite like the idea of living a student lifestyle there for a year. Dorms and university fees are cheap and I think if I went as a tourist I'd find it harder to socialise. I like the idea of going before other tourists flood back in as well. Flights will cost me not far off $1000 so I would have to stay there for at least a month to justify it anyway.

I'm looking into this kind of thing.

I have a STEM degree from a top 10 USA university; I just want to learn a language and maybe take archery class

Which Asian unis are we looking into bros?
National Taiwan Uni would be on my list.
Some sort of Thai language program too

I'm only going to go if I lose my $250k/year job that I'm working from Philippines though (laid off or fired). You might know me as BGC anon in PH threads

>>
>>2396333
As I said I already have a degree from a Western university, it was partnered with a Chinese one and filled with rich Chinese people. I think applying for a 1 year culture and language learning course seems to fit my eligibility and budget and would be very fun and rewarding.

I have only been to Asia once and that was briefly to India for a wedding. I see pictures of modern Chinese cities and find them compelling for whatever reason. Quite expensive to visit + no tourist visas, however for a relatively small amount of money I could immerse myself in the culture, pay extremely cheap rent / make friends easily by staying in university accommodation, unironically maybe learn something and maybe date some chinese girls. I have always been casually racist about China and think of them as somewhat weird and cruel people, so it would be interesting to me to see if I am right or wrong, and whether the West lies about the Chinese or not.

Ironically I went to China hating blacks and came back hating white people (mostly). Still hate black Americans though, just not all black people. Chinese and Asians have always been neutral in my eyes.

Black Americans are completely different from the blacks I've encountered in other countries. I've been to Ethiopia and Zanzibar and they were both great.

China is indeed moving out of the covid phase, and it's been emptied from the sperg sexpats. It's the ideal time to go experience the urban citylife now.
