What's the most disappointing place you visited?
London it was basically new york but less walkable and more expensive
Bali and Paris. Absolutely disgusting shit holes with horrible locals. Both places stink. Both places food sucks.
>>2096294If you think London is less walkable than new York you're retarded.Undoubtedly when you say New York what you mean is Manhattan which also makes you retarded. Good luck walking anywhere else.>>2096282If you're talking countries then Ecuador was a bit of a nothing burger compared to some of the other epic countries around it.Niagara falls was pretty shit also, massively hyped up for what is a pretty small waterfall surrounded by shit tourist stuff and a few casinos.
>>2096282NYC is the only place worth anything in the US.
>>2096307This is the most retarded take ive ever heard. If there were a god he would have killed you as soon as you pressed enter
>>2096312You said "take," your opinion is now invalid.
>>2096287Hey me too!>>2096331For mine I think I could have a good time in Barcelona but the circumstance of the trip wasn’t enjoyable for variables that could be avoided or were just bad luck. I’d go back if there weren’t many other places I’d want to visit first time or revisiting cities I liked. Compared to any other city in Europe I’ve been, everywhere you go you get Interrupted by people on the street looking for rubes. But I think it was the scenario.
>>2096305>Good luck walking anywhere else.Sounds like you're the one who never left Manhattan
/trv/the same coomer BS and nondescript whining over and over
>>2096286>>2096295>>2096307Seethe cope etc.
>>2096379If you only visit Paris, perhaps. Its a stunning country
Paris.Such a shame to see a beautiful city ruined by the mere existence of all that fucking scum
Unironically the UK. It's a dour, depressing place, the English are completely joyless. The weather is shit. The food was overpriced for what you get. Traditional English food is bland and overcooked so everyone eats Indian and Chinese food which was among the few redeeming things. The "incredible" public transit turned out to be unreliable. Like another anon said you don't feel like you're getting what you pay for. My first experience with the UK was a soda machine that ate $2 of my money. Unironically I really enjoyed France and have gone back. The people were nice if you tried to approach them on their terms and make small talk. They seem happy. The cities were interesting. The weather is was unexpectedly mild. My first experience in France was getting off the Chunnel train where a nice lady selling crepes from a street cart poured like 5 shots of Grand Marnier on my crepe. In the US I wasn't old enough to drink at the time. I loved it.
>>2096379Paris is not France

Saigon. It's like a shittier, dirtier Bangkok.
>>2096464Whats wrong with Budapest?
>>2096379>litterally nothing to seeMisuse and misspelling of "literally" aside, I'd be genuinely curious to know what countries you find have "something to see" if France has "nothing to see". Jaw-droppingly retarded opinion.
>>2096413I want to go just to see the meme of it
>>2096305How the fuck does a city like London not have 24/7 tubes and why do pubs close so early. SHit city for nightlife.
>>2096491Kinda like MontrealCity that prides itself on its nighlife but good fucking luck finding somewhere to piss when you're blasted
>>2096492Yeah, going from NYC where bars/clubs serve until 4 am and there are late night trains, London is a joke...like pubs close at 11p.m. what the fuck? I don't even go out before midnight at home. As everyone also mentions, the price. If London was half the price it would be better, but for what you pay it's fucking garbage.
>>209649423:00 closing time??? not sure how that even works. no one goes out before 22:00 in the US. wtf? get to a bar or club before 22:00 usually for hardcore alcoholics in the US>lamepilled
Brussels.Just came back from it. Thank fuck I only spent 4 days.Sure, I've been to less interesting places, but this was the most *disappointing*. You'd expect more from a western European capital.
>>2096496Well, the way it was put to me was that, everyone just goes straight from work to drinking, in be by midnight and up for work the next day, the English are so stupid sometimes.
>>2096506ok with a few exceptions this is usually what alcoholics or FuNcTiOnAL alcies do in the US interesting esp Wine Aunts, women with mental issues AND drinking problems, and construction workers
>>2096285Where did you stay in Bali? I went to Canggu and loved it.
>>2096413Found the amerishit retard with zero knowledge of Paris beyond Hollywood memes. Your opinion is a literal self own. Paris has been a shithole for as long as it existed
>>2096492We have nightubes at weekends now. I'd agree that it's a bit shit it's taken so long but they're slowly getting there, the reason it's taken so long is the train drivers union but that's another conversation for another day.By any metric of measurement London is not a shit city though
>>2096491London is like any city that has residents that will unconditionally defend it, it sucks. Whenever residents try to dodge criticism about their city just stay away from it.

>>2096594Shit for nightlife? We have world famous clubs, a drinking hole on each road, more drugs than you could imagine and world famous djs in the city weekly. What exactly are you looking for nightlife wise that you can't find in London?
Angkor Wat, left after 5 minutes. Cambodia in general is just a fucking shithole. Unless you wanna fuck children there is no reason to ever set foot in that dump. Saw like 5 western pedophiles while there aswell
>>2096287Barcelona. You're fucking crazy. The nightlife is amazing. The food is fucking incredible. The women are insanely hot. The museums are world class. The city itself is gorgeous. If you hate Barcelona, you hate being alive.
>>2096423Lol this post. Imagine calling the English joyless then proceeding to talk about how friendly le Parisians are hahaha. Let's be honest, you lost 2 dollars in the vending machine on a can of coke because you're a fat American mutt and you've decided the cry about it and blame London lel.>>2096644I can see why people think it. Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in the world but you've got to KNOW where is good, otherwise you can have a pretty shit experience. Restaurants for example, plenty of them in the main tourist areas are literally scams, as in they'll microwave frozen pizzas and sell them to you for a ridiculous mark-up. You think these places would be ok because they're right in the centre but they're not. Then the Michelin starred places are hidden and much more discreet.
>>2096649>Restaurants for example, plenty of them in the main tourist areas are literally scams, as in they'll microwave frozen pizzas and sell them to you for a ridiculous mark-up. You think these places would be ok because they're right in the centre but they're not.Yeah I can confirm when I was there I expected amazing food and got... Some mediocre stuff for way too much euros. I just walked into a restaurant close to the office I was staying at for work.Never explored the city proper - maybe next time when I am there I will find the time to give it justice. How to find out about proper places to eat?
>>2096670>Some mediocre stuff for way too much eurosThis is really common, the best rule of thumb is just to stay away from anywhere in the main central tourist locations because they literally are scams. You can google "Restaurant scam Barcelona" and they'll tell you all about it.The first time I visited I had the same issue, turned up, didn't really explore, went somewhere that looked good and realised how shitty it was. The best thing you can do is just do your research on well reviewed places in the city, usual travel websites or ones dedicated to the city, or go slightly out into the less tourist centric areas and see what looks popular with locals.
>>2096555Ubud, aka bed stuy with monkeys

>>2096769You're not breaking any mold, if you scroll up you'll find 5 people already talking about London. London has a wealth of history, architecture and unique cultural institutions but you need to understand London was the original New York and it's only natural that the bigger, brighter, newer city is going to edge out and be considered better. NY weather in winter is far harsher than London's winter weather. Not to mention accents and entitled brown people? You can't go 5 minutes walking down any prime tourist area in New York without some jogger speaking ebonics trying to get you to take his mixtape lmao.NY is better than London I agree with you but if you consider it the "most disappointing place you've visited" it's obvious you haven't travelled much

Athens, hands down. Athens was the second city I visited outside the United States, ever. I was 19 years old and had this whole plan plotted out: I was going to spend three or four days in Istanbul, take the bus to Athens, fly to Egypt, spend a couple weeks there, carry over to Jordan, hit up Dubai, and then do a month in India. I'd done basically no research before leaving and didn't know anything about either Istanbul or Athens. Since I was very unfamiliar with Turkey, I expected Istanbul to be a bit bland, while somehow believing that Athens would be some charming center of European culture. I wound up loving Istanbul and disliking Athens, which is a generally grimy, dirty city with little aesthetic appeal outside its most touristic quarters. I intentionally missed my flight to Cairo, took another bus back to Istanbul, and spent another few weeks traveling Turkey before going to Iraq, Georgia, Armenia, and then Dubai and India. That was almost a decade ago, and I've traveled lots since then. There are places I've no burning desire to go back to--like San Pedro Sula, or Dar Es Salaam--but none left quite the impression as Athens. I think it's just because it was babby's first trip, and I got some Paris Syndrome or whatever it's called.
>>2096917I have literally traveled to over 500 cities all over the world and you're wrong. To think there's anything special about upstate New York, ugh. I wish I could gouge your eyes out, you clearly don't deserve them.
>>2096918Good thing you skipped Jordan too, total shithole. Amman is literally the Athens of the Middle-East.
>>2096912>national parking lots
>>2096921I said upstate is better than NYC, not the best in the world. Also, nobody cares how many places you've seen, that doesn't invalidate other opinions
>>2096928It's not. Only reason why anyone would think upstate NY has anything on NYC itself is if they have never left the eastern seabord in their lives.
>>2096872I know that feel, been there on a business trip and wanted to see some districts for myself after work. Ashbury Heights, completely gentrified and unaffordable, GG with barriers on ground level to prevent people jumping into SF bay. Insane traffic on the highway into Silicon Valley. A nice area was the Santa Cruz Mountains, but the city and immediate surroundings were terrifying.
>>2096482It's called exaggeration anon. Not "misuse" of a word.
>>2096930you clearly are retarded then. I prefer nature, so I think upstate is better. Why would traveling make me invert my opinions are start liking the city more? It wouldn't, which is why I still prefer upstate despite living on both seaboards, 8 different states, and visiting 30 countries

Man, some of you guys get so hostile over one bad remark about your country. We are all just recounting experiences here, there is nothing to argue, whether someone likes a place or not is entirely personal and really nothing to get upset about.
>>2096282Remember the Alhambra being not even slightly what it was praised for.London and Paris were expected to only be good for visiting museums, so it's not really disappointing (kinda like visiting Berlin, you know it's a shithole so no disappointment possible).Of the capitals in Europe only Rome comes to mind as really worth a visit for seeing the city.In japan I'd recommend only taking Shinkansen if you need to be quick, the windows are tiny, you can hardly see anything of what's outside, unlike e.g. a german ICE where you see what place you are traveling through.

Schevedingen. It’s the beach in den haag. Extra ordinary ugly waterfront. Shitty architecture and the pier bridge looks like a motorway bridge. It gets better when you go north. You can find German bunkers remaining from the Atlantic wall. They look better then anything the Dutch build.

Italy as a whole. Granted I didn't go every in the country, just Milan, Rome, Florence, and Trento. It was just a shithole, food was good but that was really the only positive about the place. It was dirty, unorganized, and full of just vapid people. I remember taking the train from zurich to Milan and knowing the exact moment I crossed the border into Italy. Houses were decrepit, yard unkempt, infrastructure on general was terrible. Granted, going from 3 weeks in Zurich with a friend to solo hostel hopping in Italy is jarring in nature but fuck, Italy is a shithole.
>>2096286>threading your own postISHYGDDT
>>2099556im too retarded to explain it well but, a pub is like a traditional community rendezvous point where everyone locally goes to have some drinks and chit chat with their friends. in central london its where people go for a pint after work. its chill, there is either no or quiet music. they look very distinct from the outside, inside is usually always wooden. they have names like "the red lion" "the shakespears head" "the viaduct" "the black horse" etc. people go to their local pub to have a sunday roast. pubs look like pic rel.so culturally having some pints at the pub is just youll be sitting drinking and talking (of course there are random lively nights and also on special occasions) also people will go to the pub for pre drinks before they go to a bar/club, because drinks in the pub are probably cheaper, they'll leave the pub at 11 or 12, when the pub stops serving drinks, then closes, to go on to a bar/club. then i guess bar to nightclub is basicallya spectrum of the louder the music is and the later it closes the more of a nightclub it is, they're usually more modern looking, probably serve cocktails, music is louder, there are less seats, theres a dancefloor type area, and theyre open till late, there may be an entry fee, you go here to chat up some SLAGS. which you can do in the pub also but the bar/club is just more appropriate. an example of a bar chain (there are better independent bars than this shite im just using it as an example) would be like, be at one, turtle bay... stuff like that.the inbetween a club and a bar is like The Roxy, Simmons Bar, which close at like 3-4.then a nightclub is like Fabric, which is open till 6am.honestly im retarded i hope someone comes in and refines what i said to make it more clear

>>2100764>If only you fucks had a working social security system and getting a working visa wasn't that hardIt's like that BECAUSE of these things. The US is still a high trust society, one reason for that is because its hard to get in. Americans see others as having a shared experience and the same values. That's changing though. Work and consumption are incentivized not disincentivized through government policy. Self-reliance is idealized. Employers are free to dismiss those with a sour disposition because employment is "at will."
>>2096287This anon is right, Barcelona sucks, retarded burger-tier "amazing" holiday destination
Paris and London, easily.
>>2099961It’s like these people visit one city in the US and they think that the entirety of the United States is culturally identical to that one city they visited, not realizing that the United States is huge and has many areas that are very different from each other.
Richmond, Virginia. I wasn't expecting much but I wasn't expecting one of the most unredeemable cities I've been in. At least other cities have "the nice area" or some attraction like nightlife or music to salvage a bad experience. Richmond has nothing. There isn't nothing unique or interesting about Richmond.Runner up is New Haven. The only reason New Haven isn't the most disappointing is because they have really good food, there's nothing else there though.
>>2099828I would need a reason to go to Zurich other than to "just see it". The Swiss are nice people from my experience, but a little bland. Going out and meeting locals in Switzerland does sound like pulling teeth though.
1. Los Angeles - seriously, there is nothing there worth seeing. Unironically2. Maui - 90% of the island is desert, and the nice parts are packed with boomer tourists.
Imagine going somewhere like London or Paris and expecting anything other than a shithole
>>2096282Every fucking Hungarian village.
>>2097912>i..its ok when weeee dooo ittttretard
Munich because i broke up with my gf of 4 years there and ive regretted it ever since
>>2102134I have the opposite experience with Baltimore. My ex-girlfriend lived there and I visited her often. So even though everyone says Baltimore is a horrible shithole, I have a lot of good memories there and think of it fondly. You should go back and make good memories there to replace them.
>>2096282Paris and Amsterdam.
>>2097075It's the same all over the world. Easy as fuck if you are good looking. I imagine that excludes you if you have to ask.
>>2098044Nürnburg was the highlight of my Germany trip, I loved the historical museums and the altstadt fest was going on. Since I couldn't get to Oktoberfest in Munich, this was a nice slice of Bavaria.
>>2102416nuremberg has great parts (center and north) and parts full of turks and russians (south)
ParisIt wasn't my choice, it was a school trip
>>2096282The four corners. A fucking rock.
>>2096282For me it was L.A.I thought I had realistic expectations, came in thinking it was going to be a mess, but it turned out that it was even a bigger mess than I anticipated. Hollywood is just a small street, and Venice Beach is ok at best. San Diego and San Francisco were way better.
>>2102669Apparently there are two different Four Corners. One that has an elaborately designed platform that tourists flock to, and one that's not as well-known but is more geographically accurate.
>>2102674Either way its the middle of empty desert and also in a dirt poor area full of Indians and you aren't legally allowed have alcohol there. Keep on driving.
>>2102674idk, i just checked on google maps, and it seemed somewhat accurate. Not a complete bull's eye, but still.
Eureka Springs, Arkansas. My biggest surprise and one of my top places to ever go is Linesville, Pennsylvania. There is a spillway with such a high density of fish that the ducks will scramble across them like they are on land. Their city slogan is “Where the ducks walk on fish”. Feeding the fish, ducks, and baseball throwing bread up for the seagulls to catch was more fun than it had any business being.
>>2098197>but the GOAT distination for expat/remote workinghow so?
Florence. I was just kinda bored and all the museum staff were on strike. Food was good at least.
>>2096423>I went to London and hated it. Therefore the entire UK is dogshit.>I went to a small town in France and got drunk at 16. It was great!Fucking kill yourself casual scum.
>>2097294This. Phoenix is a literal desert shithole with one of the most glaring wealth disparities I've seen out of any city in the United States. 1 minute it's upscale as fuck, next minute its slums. Even Cleveland doesn't look as bad these days.
>>2102726>>2096423Here I've been from Leeds to Land's End. I kinda did like Cornwall and Wales. Haven't been to Scotland or Gibraltar (which looks neat) or Northern Ireland (which doesn't). But everything about the UK seemed slightly depressing. There's just a glum atmosphere about the place. "Miserable Britain." Also the Brits seethe when you speak well of France.
>>2098197> GOAT distination for expat/remote workinghow does it beat thailand, vietnam and philipines?
>>2102790GOAT is synonymous to "I think the place is the best, so it's the best no matter what other people says or there are other better options to be considered"
>>2096918>>2097034>>2097333>>2097336>>2097348>>2097356>tfw been in Greece 6 times and fell in love with it>tfw love Athens more than any island>tfw it's probably my favourite country in Europe and I plan to go there again and again>tfw wouldn't think twice about a job offer there
>>2102819Also Santorini is NOT bad and is only slightly more expensive than other islands. You will NOT be disappointed if you go there, it's one of those places on Earth which are completely worth it and are popular for a reason, like Venice etc. However pretty much any Med island is great because it's the best sea and the best climate. You can also live in Athens and go to Saronic islands and it would be almost as nice.
>>2102823Also Meteora and Arachova/Delphi are INSANELY inspiring and are even better than islands if you're a lover of culture.
>>2102824Also Greece is a very fun country to explore by car and Greek people are some of the friendliest and cheerful I've ever met. Long story short, the only reasons someone might dislike Greece are>he's a self-hating Greek (probably some poor inner-city dweller)>he's a shallow person who is easily bored and requires guidanceIf you disagree you're wrong so don't reply to me
>>2096423Agree with the general idea.I learned a lot living in London, I don’t regret it.I have a love hate relationship with France and Paris. There are too many things I hate but for the good things, I hardly find equivalent elsewhere.
>>2101659But Americans are insufferable across the entire country. The beauty of any state is ruined by these horrible people.
>>2100157No chances for you anon. Stop thinking about it.
Haven't been to some of the more common places itt like London or Paris. Of the places I've visited, most disappointing was by far Denver. I had really high expectations especially with the nearby mountains, only to find out it was an overcrowded mess with shit people. The traffic is horrible and god forbid you try driving into the mountains on a weekend. I would compare the traffic to rush hour in LA but honestly Denver's weekend "ski rush" traffic might have been worse. A drive that should no more than an hour and a half to get to the nearest ski resort could take well over 4 hours on a weekend. The food varied from pretty good to god-awful. The architecture is also shit. It's just like a combination of brick boxes from the 1940s and globohomo angular abominations. The worst thing though was the Air Quality. I couldn't even see the mountains from my hotel on some days and it was the middle of winter. The air smelled like shit, but there weren't any wildfires producing smoke or anything. The only place where I've seen haze like that is LA. I'm a huge ski bum and /xs/ bro who skis probably 1/4th of the days of the year and I still hated it. The ski resorts were the only saving grace and I was still left pretty disappointed. If you ever find yourself wanting to go to Denver save yourself the misery and go to Boulder instead. It does everything Denver does but better, and unlike Denver I actually enjoyed my time there.
>>2103096Denver's only worth it as a place to fly into, rent a car, and then go to whatever ski areas you want.
>>2096303this.it was tacky as fuck.the shrooms sucked.
>>2103140Agree that being an early adopter of legal weed ruined the place because every techbro and wook moved there in the months after.
>>2103097>>2103140True. I don't know why I had such high expectations for it. I guess I thought that since I was super into skiing I thought I'd find people I had a lot in common with there, but all I found were thots and faggots whose only interest in skiing was to go up the lift once to get a picture for instagram and then call it a day after one run. Sometimes they wouldn't even SKI down. I swear Breck and Aspen were the only resorts I've been to where I regularly saw people taking the lift down instead of skiing/boarding to the bottom. SLC was a little less like this but after seeing it I swear in 5 years it will be exactly as Denver is today. There is no such thing as a "ski town" anymore, just California-gentrified urban centers where skiing happens to be a thing that less than 1% of the population is even remotely interested in. I am truly alone on this barren earth.
>>2096282Paris.Situation is so bad that I actually had to look for white people.Out of 15 people i met,one was white.Let that sink in.
>>2103151I was there about a decade ago, but it was filled with so many beggars that you couldn't enjoy sightseeing.
>>2097285i lived in both Saigon and Hanoi and I like Saigon more. i can see how it wouldn't be that fun to visit but there's just so much life in it. has to be one of the best cities for food in the world, and there's just a lot going on. at least it was cool 2010-2016, i was back briefly in 2018 and the traffic is way worse and it's lost some of its charm. Hanoi is cool though, it has a bohemian undercurrent that's really cool and the 1000 year history really comes through. Da Nang is the obvious choice for cool city to live, with Da Lat a great place that's more laid back and relaxed up in the mountains. I always wanted to live in Hue, I think the culture there is the coolest in the country, but none of the jobs i was offered ever paid that well there. living in Ha Long bay was rad
>>2096480i found the nightlife stale and boringthe so ground 24 hour underground bars all shut at 11pm
>>2097278all the cities in the west are better, plus much better landscapes out west. Fuckin Albuquerque has more culture than philly or baltimore or wherever
>>2096921No nothing special at all about the finger lakes, Adirondacks, 1000 islands. You can find that many gorges, waterfalls, glacial lakes, lake towns and private islands anywhere in the world really.
>>2096285I mean Kuta is gross but if you go check out the rest of the island it’s pretty amazing
>>2103452no, ubud sucks too
>>2102823It's not the best sea and not the best climate. The best sea is the Atlantic and the best climate is Atlantic
>>2103147>taking the lift downI hate my generation so much.
>>2096452>Not as terrible as BrazilNever visited Brazil beside rio de janenigger
>>2103462How about you explain why instead if just saying "nuh it suks lawl" like a smooth brained mongoloid. I know typing is hard, but a few more details won't kill you.

>>2096282France, Paris in particular. Each and every goddamn time. But I have relatives there, otherwise I would never set foot again in France. Except Nice, which was nice.
F R A N C ERANCENot just paris, the whole country is garbage besides filled with old old rude boomers and the colonised ''people'' and theres very little to see. weather is trash, food is trash save your money and never go there
I’m glad I never listened to the 4chan France = bad memes and got to experience this wonderful country multiple times
>>2103340>Da Nang is the obvious choice for cool city to liveLOL no.Ive only heard Literal boomers say this, people that don’t actually want to live or even like Vietnam.
>>2097912You're a worthless parasite.
>>2097912jewish hands typed this
>>2096423I don't believe you've been to either the UK or France, fatty.Plus, the UK can't be that bad given that more French people live there than vice-versa
>>2106704Bongfags always seethe when you compare their country to France. You could say that Moscow is nicer than London and they won't care at all but speak well of a Frenchman and they full on rage. It's hilarious.
>>2096698Ubud was cool. What didn't you like about it? The slummy vibe?
>>2102790>>21026961- Prices: Way cheaper than Thailand/Malaysia2- Developed (for foreigners) Surprisingly good internet, easy access to first world items unlike laos/myanmar3- Good proportion of foreigners, big enough to have a community, not big enough to have a bubble in where youre basically living in europe/usa and never setting a foot on asia (VERY common in BKK)4- Still white worshipping from the locals, no barang hate/envy which is common in Vietnam/parts of ThaiPP has the better average of all living issues as long as youre white and get an expat wage. Still, is an utter shithole if youre just passing by>>2103340>HueThis nigga knows. I miss it dearly. Best city in Vietnam
>>2096305Nyc is leagues more walkable than London. It isnt even close. Paris is even better
>>2096928Upstate NY is just generic nature. You can see that anywhere.
>>2097233I second NZ. Boring people. Nice nature but not nicer than places with much more character
>>2097282Sounds like you need to be less poor and visit better areas in these cities
>>2099365Rome is too touristy over too much of its area.
>>2099694>Goes to the worst cities in a country known for its small townsYou got what you deserved.
