Where have you travelled to?
OP here, here's mine.
>>1986124Imagine having been only to Moscow and highlighting in red all of Russia (including Siberia, Kamchatka, Chechenia, Karelia, Kuril Islands and other places that the average 4fag couldn't even point on a map).I'm waiting for that faggot and in the meantime i'll tell you that you concept is totally stupid. So, i'll instead post my Google Maps' chronology dots. Way better
Here's my map.Obviously it has some weaknesses (large countries being coloured by visits to one or more places), but I can't be arsed to fill out the /trv/ autism map with all kinds of subdivisions.
>>1986140that's my favourite too anon. Perfect balance between effort and representation
>>1986144Did you do Iran/Azerbaijan/Armenia/Turkey in one trip or did you visit them separately?
>>1986140>>1986144How the hell have you travelled to so many places?
spottem
>>1986147no no, Iran was a 3weeks trip, Turkey I've been several times to Istanbul and I visited Armenia and while I was there I went to Nagorno-Karabakh>>1986166I have pretty good conditions at work. 30 days per year plus all the time I work extra that goes into a time account that I can use more or less as I please.
>>1986139>>1986140>>1986144I made this map a while back for people who want to show every country they've been to, but are modest enough to admit they haven't visited *all* of it.
>>1986124
Should have put Australia in blue aswell but forgot
>>1986289Nice idea, but how do you determine the percentages?Give me an example using the US (or Russia).
>>1986261>Nagorno-KarabakhDamn, another place lost to history, just like Yemen or Syria.>>1986166Literally privileged upbringing in multiple places with a strong family focus on travelling and sending their kids abroad.
>>1986332 Using the US as an example, they have 50 states. If you've visited 10 states, or roughly 20% of the country, you could color it orange. If you've visited 27 states, or a little over half, you could color it yellow. That was just an example, so you don't have to do it by the country's subdivisions. If you're not sure of a country's subdivisions, or if you're not sure how much ground you've covered, you can just ballpark the numbers. If I went to the Czech Republic and only stayed in Prague, I can make an educated guess and say that I visited less than 10% of the country, but more than zero. The point of the map is to have something like pic related, but at a fraction of the autism, and to not think too hard about it.
>>1986289I like this, but you have too many categories.
>>1986339>and to not think too hard about itNigga, your unclear map requires way more thinking than the official autism map.
>>1986341I thought so too, but when I tried condensing it, I thought I had too little.0%<30%30-70%>70%I can easily do away with Transit/Layover since they mean so little. I'm on the fence about parting with "Interested in visiting"; I want to keep that one.
I've only been to Earth, sucks being a poorfag ;_;
>>1986344exactly what I was thinking, it seems fucking stupid
>>1986395Seems more fucking stupid that we have pissing contests about how many countries or regions we've been to.
ive been 2!
>>1986486>doesn't even use the provided colorsbased
>>1986398If you view these maps as a pissing contest then you should just get out of this thread.
>>1986398I totally despise the ego-travelling so common these days (thank you instagram) but I like geography, history and anthropology so I find it useful and somewhat nice to keep track on the places one has visit. I'm thinking of starting one for my son even.
>>1986486>Homeland - blue>Visited - red>Fills everything in greenWhy? And which one is your homeland?
>>1986613international citizenry
Lived in India for several years, spent most of 2020 in Turkey. Currently visiting Pakistan as a tourist, have been here since the end of January. Planning to revisit Nepal by mid-May, then going to try to get a non-tourist visa to move, semi-permanently, to India. May hit up Kenya and Ethiopia on the way to India, if I have to go back to the U.S. to get the requisite visa. Have about $1,000 in Qatar Airways vouchers, so that should get me there and back.
>>1986634fucked up the color scheme lol, the red is countries I've visited (obviously)
>>1986124I don't want to draw:>German>Netherlands>France>Denmark>Switzerland>Austria>Italy>Israel>South Africa>AntarcticaFeels like I haven't seen all that much. Really wanna travel eastern Europe and Russia, Scandinavia, and Canada. Also Japan and Taiwan.>>1986139>I'm cool because I give big tech all my data
I am not very well traveled
>>1986139If you've been to Moscow, you've been to Russia, and highlighting Russia on a map is a perfectly fine way of saying "I've been to Russia". Meanwhile you post some faggy borderless Google Maps shit where you can't even see which places you've been to, while also seeminlgy being the least traveled person ITT. If you're gonna act like an elitist fuck, at least have the travel experience to show for it, lol.
>>1986124*visits St. Petersburg for three days and colors in all of Russia*What can I say, I live life in the fast lane
>>1986633>world citizenthat's crypto for anglo-saxon or european
>>1986695>>1986708This is exactly why the official map has two shades of green. It's the perfect solution.
>>1986745Is this the power of burger education?
>>1986745what is there to do in botswana
>>1986708>*visits St. Petersburg for three days and colors in all of Russia*Yes that's how it works, it's a map of which countries you've visited.
>>1986850The official autistic travel map solves this problem.
>>1986836>countries you've visitedVisiting Moscow IS NOT visiting Russia. Not only Russia spans over 11 time zones and 17130000 square kilometers, so visiting Moscow is like visiting 0,0001% of Russia. But Moscow/Pitir is totally non representative of an average russian place, that can be represented way better by Vologda for cities, Vyatskoye for towns, any village in Tver oblast for villages, Valday national park for nature, Lake Seliger for culture (wooden orthodox churches), Polar Urals for rough wilderness and Amderma for tundra outposts. If someone has visited all those places, it's still 1% of Russia but has least he's seen ALL the ASPECTS of Russia and can be honest when he says "I've been to Russia"(i would be deeply ashamed by visiting only Moscow and telling everybody "i've been to RUSSIA")
>>1986851No, because visiting Perth is not visiting the whole Western Australia, visiting Krasnoyarsk is not visiting the whole Krasnoyarsk Krai and visiting Anchorahe is not visiting all of Alaska.DOTS ARE THE ONLY SOLUTION
>>1986856>You must have visited every single location in a place to say you've visited thereSneed
>>1986851>>1986850 is now >>1986852 'cause i slightly modified that
>>1986857Not true, because to experience every aspect is often enough.Russian villages are all identical, you don't need to visit evry single one but you must check out some for sure
>>1986829Nice 20000$ cruise
>>1986852These maps are all a wank anyways. The influencers and bloggers who have been to every country are probably less well travelled in any practical sense than somebody who just lived somewhere for a few months and soaked it all in. I think most people recognize that. If you will notice these threads are full of people posting their own maps with very few people commenting on each other's travels. Its because its not really that interesting, but for some odd reason human beings get a tremendous amount of pleasure from shading things in.
>>1986862Nah, I work there. Did a few contracts and probably spent a combined two years there. Never actually been to the peninsula only the continent (and to my knowledge those continental trips cost a shitload more than $20,000).
>>1986863I agree.Travel, as everything, is increasingly consumism and showing in on social media and less and less authenticity, true passion or adventure for own spirituality. It's the reason because bald&bankrupt is a fresh of breath air in a toxic and fake travel universe despite not being perfect
>>1986866Even better! If it's true you are so lucky, i found 9000$ cruises just for set foot on the northern tip of Antarctic peninsula and it would be already way more remote than >99% of "travellers"
>>1986873Well its in our nature to brag. We want to show off and have our peers be impressed by us. Social media takes that instinct and twists it into something really toxic. Honestly, if you can soothe that impulse to brag by posting some dumb map on an anonymous pidgeon watching forum you're doing pretty well. Certainly a lot healthier than curating and managing an online personal identity on Instagram that increasingly takes over your offline life while simultaneously becoming less and less a genuine reflection of your true self.
>>1986878Apparently the peninsular wildlife is amazing. I have a few friends who did stints at Palmer and they said it was by far the best part. The continent is cool, I'm lucky we're in a picturesque spot. Depending on your nationality it may be easier to get a job in Antarctica than you think.
>>1986852Not to mention highly heterogeneus countries where biomes, geography or ethnic groups are completely different between different parts of the "country",imagine an Alaskan or Idahoan reading below an instagram post "the United States are my wet dream, Miami is so beautiful"!While Russia can be considered somewhat homogeneus, a sentence like "i visited the United States" makes absolutely no sense
>>1986880True, but the Plateau is so much more remote, i could pay hundreds of thousands for just being dropped in a random location around 85° S and being there for 10 seconds. Also Transantarctic mountains must be otherworldly
>>1986861Lurk more
>>1986861>you're not travelling right
>>1986883>While Russia can be considered somewhat homogeneus, a sentence like "i visited the United States" makes absolutely no senseDear diary, today I still didn't see an American making a good post on /trv/. It's been a while now.
>>1986873Bald hypes up the places he visits as way more dangerous than they really are, which I would argue is just as bad and vain.
>>1986757Cleanest, richest African country with the best nature and wildlife

>>1986486> doesn't understand how colours work> doesn't mark homeland on map of earthmartian?
>>1986852>Visiting Moscow IS NOT visiting RussiaMoscow isn't in Russia? That's news to me, what's your source for this information? Did Germany invade and capture it last night?
>>1986852>visits russia>i havent visited russiaschizo semantics
>>1986883>While Russia can be considered somewhat homogeneus, a sentence like "i visited the United States" makes absolutely no sense
*sad spanish noises* never travel to another country(if we count Gibraltar as a part of spain)
>>1986883>a sentence like "i visited the United States" makes absolutely no senseWhy does it not make sense to you? Is it because you don't understand the English language?
>>1987394Why would you count Gibraltar as part of Spain when it's part of Britain?
>>1987394Gibraltar is another country you spic
>>1986124Get me off this shit dreary island I wanna be on a tropical beach somewhere again
>>1987541>Get me off this shit dreary islandSounds like Tim. Are you Tim?
Slow progress due to geographical isolation (and plane ticket cost)
>>1987720You've been to Brunei? What's that like?
>>1986124>everyone ITT listing countries when they've been to probably one city, if even thatHome:>New EnglandVisited(US):>Los Angeles>Seattle>Denver>Indiana>Florida>One bar in Ohio near Columbus, forget where>Route 95 between Maine and Miami>Route 90 between Boston and OhioVisited(International)>Prague and Kutna Hora>Southwest Ireland>Amsterdam and Paris Airports(fuck you Charles de Gaulle airport)>Drove around Iceland for 24 hours>HelsinkiFor some reason most people I know say I've traveled more than anyone else they know, which honestly just means the bar for being known as a "traveler" in the US is hilariously low. Also fuck the coof
I should really try traveling below the tropic of cancer
>>1987731>(fuck you Charles de Gaulle airport)Is there a story behind this?
I have strange tastes.
>>1987737Most people who have flown into or out of CDG and literally 100% who have connected through CDG have a negative story to tell.
>>1987734What you REALLY should do before that though, is stop marking Bavaria as your "homeland" when you've lived in Florida for 10 generations José.
>>1987737Yeah there's like 3 toilets in the entire place, and they have clogged toilets and shit smeared faucets 23 hours out of the day.
>>1987741>connections are worse than departures & arrivalsThis is my worst nightmare, not gonna lie.
>>1987742Bitch I'm 50/50Keep seething
>>1987752You're American larping as some honorary German you dumb mutt. No one cares about your damn heritage, if you're born in Florida you're American, and not one of the good ones either.
>>1987758I don’t even know why I bother replying to your bait. Probably just an excuse to get me to bump your thread
>>1987761>I'm in Germany right now, that means I'm German!Holy shit fuck off
>>1987764>Holy shit fuck offSays the guy who can count on his hands the number of countries he's visited
>>1987767Where do you even get that from lmao, I've been to over 30 countries
>>1987725Really unique. Caught a ferry over from borneo.Due to state oil money it costs $1 per bus ticket to go anywhere in the country.ITs only worth visiting for a few days as there isn't that much to do.Capital city is small a quiet, but the river villages, probiscus monkeys and palace/museum are all interesting. very friendly people - went out of their way to tell me they're the "good Muslims not the blow up kind".Weird mix of SEA and Muslim culture.
>>1987771Fuck off already you mutant freak
i just wanna go to china :(
>>1987731Why don't you just fill in the map like a normal person? I'm not reading your post.
>>1987772>very friendly people - went out of their way to tell me they're the "good Muslims not the blow up kind".Lol.Sounds cool anyway. Thanks for the info.
>>1987574idk who that person is
>>1986694That's pretty good compared to most, anon. Don't feel like you have to go far, Europe itself is very diverse, I would recommend flying to Moscow and the either taking the train or road tripping to Vladivostok if you want a fun new trip that's affordable.
>>1988246It's Tim, of course.
>>1988264What are Slovenia and Bosnia like?
>>1988269I live in Helsinki now so Moscow is definitely on my agenda. Probably doing St. Petersburg as well on the same trip.
>>1986124Feel like pure shit just want travel again :(
>>1988316What are these countries like?>Iceland>Norway>Sweden>Denmark>Poland>Switzerland
>>1988369Polfag bait. Every place will literally get you decapitated except Poland, which is a fantastic place where everybody is happy and everybody white should move there.3-2-1 any second now
>>1988369>NorwayRun-of-the-mill western country, people are cold but friendly once they get a few beers, nature in the west and north is stunning, in the east it's just a lot of woodland (which is nice in itself, by all means), it's expensive as shit>SwedenSame as Norway except landscape, which is woodland all over north of Stockholm, with more fields to the south. Stockholm Archipelago is comfy>DenmarkFlat as fuck, comfy as fuck. People are friendlier than Norwegians and Swedes.t. Norwegian, not the one you replied to
>>1988381It's not meant to be /pol/ bait, it's a genuine question>>1988396Thanks for the info, appreciate it
>>1986612>>1986398>>1986395>>1986344>Not knowing the Real Traveler's™ mapHow new are you to this board?
>>1987742>>1987758>>1987764>>1987771It's true that many Americans larp as Europeans, but if that guy says he's 50/50 you should give him the benefit of the doubt.
