I don't collect OMG but the new doll proportions seem pretty drastic. Maybe to make clothes swap more compatible with RH?

I'm thinking about getting a Licca Castle doll but I don't actually know much about Licca and I know a thread or two ago someone was talking about her. Does her size vary at all can she fit into any clothing packs sold for her? Who else's clothes does she fit in? What about shoes? Should I make sure to get Licca Castle shoes for her?
>>
>>9756258
You should scroll through the previous thread before it deletes because an anon gave some useful info to my question about shoes. I bought my first Castle recently and her feet were too big for any other doll shoes I had. I've been having good luck with Blythe dresses for her though. My understanding is that there's a shorter body type and taller body type, but I don't know enough about them to answer in depth.
>>
>>9756258
>>9756266
Oh wait, it was the PREVIOUS previous thread, it's still in archive but I'll paste what anon said about shoes for you.
>Yes, Jenny/Licca both have larger feet than normal Barbie. I can squeeze curvy/tall Barbie shoes onto mine, they can also wear Liv doll shoes and Creatable World shoes. I don't think any other current playline dolls have compatible feet asides from tall/fat Barbie though.
>>
>>9756267
Thank you for the spoonfeeding nona I appreciate you. I think I'll be sure to get her some shoes when I get her. That's always the hardest thing is making sure the shoes fit. A dress can be a bit too big but shoes have to fit. I was probably going to use mandarake to get mine but I'm still looking around and deciding what I want to do. I love how many options there are for the castle dolls faces and hair color. I wish I could just go there myself and pick one in person.
>>
>>9756288
Same, I'm already looking for another one with a particular head sculpt in a color combo I like, I love all the variation and how many of them are kind of unique. I wish they had more of a western fanbase so there were more guides and comparisons and such in english.
>>
>>9756258
I just got my castle the other day, I’ll post some pics soon but she’s this one. I find that Licca clothes fits RH perfectly but Licca has a tiny tiny waist so RH is hit or miss. Shirts and jackets look good on her. The Licca fashion packs should all fit though, in general Licca clothes is very loose.

I will say, you’re paying for the collector’s item with Castles more than anything so pick one that’s unique and that you really like, especially if it’s much over regular Licca price

Alright, time for the cutest bitch you ever met. Sweater is obviously RH, Avery trunk. It's a little loose but it's a sweater so who cares. Skirt is from an OMG Tween, Aya Cherry. Obviously too short and it just barely fits, I don't have any normal OMG to try though. It fits a little better without the tights but she'd be extremely leggy an in a like 1mm skirt. RH bottoms are def too big. Tights and shoes are Licca. I'm glad Aya comes with those second bottoms cause I don't think she's getting that skirt back, I love this fit.
>>

I'm not super familiar with them but I think so? Unless she's a tween dressed the same. Originals are 10 inches tall so I wonder what that would make them, at least 14, maybe 16 inches?

Regular OMG are about 9.5 inches tall, a little shorter than most 1/6 fashion dolls. Just approximating from this one photo, I'd guess the new Fierce girls will be around 12 inches. Pretty normal doll size, nothing to worry about. It just looks big in comparison. The "art style" of OMGs is quite compressed, height wise, I suppose.
>>
>>9756169
Royal bee's soft, round, beautifully curly afro was my favourite part of the old design. I like the hairstyle on the new one but I wish they kept the curl pattern the same.
>>
with mh reboot coming up, will the older mh dolls start to sell better on the secondhand market? i wanted to sell a bunch of mine back when the line ended but everyone was purging at that time and it was too saturated to make many sales, so i just kept them in hopes that the market would change later
>>
>>9758527
I thought I saw a comment a few threads ago that the prices on secondhand MH jumped recently? Presumably because they're so popular with repainters?
>>
Did someone already posted about the alleged monster high playline dolls? They were copyrighted multiple posts on insta and youtube so it pretty much confirms they're real.

Why is the one in the middle wearing oven mitts? I'd get the one on the left if whatever that stuff is on her thighs are just tights and not some kind of freaky decal. I'd also give her a head swap, the faces on all three are 5 levels beyond ugly.

You could go to /fa/ if you want, but those guys just like circle jerking about themselves and their favourite designers. You'll just end up looking like them. If you want to do that, that's fine I guess. It's a starting point.

Anyway I guess I could give you a tip that works for dressing dolls, (and yourself. and anything, really. It's just design 101) You can use the colour wheel.

I think I picked up this picture from /fa/ or maybe it was from /ic/, i dunno. The most important part is the bottom half of this handy chart. Learn the colour wheel. Learn what colours together aesthetically and you'll make better outfits in no time. But it's only the start, you can play around with silhouettes, shapes and shadows later.

>>9767636
Take this doll for example. She's alright but her colours are pretty matchy-matchy, aren't they? I mean I do like the outfit, I'm pretty sure she's referencing the collab Mattel did with Moschino. Cute but... She's missing some colour. See how the white accessories pops against her clothes? She's just... Missing a little something.

>>9765783
Alright look at this doll. I don't really care much for her outfit to tell you the truth but that's not the point. Look at her colour story. May seem like a bunch of stuff together at first, but this was a very conscious decision. Look at my picture, look at the colour wheel. See where blue, pink, and yellow are on the wheel.

Can you see how these colours help each other out? Her arm warmers (sleeves?) echo her leg warmers. She's wearing a lot, isn't she? But they're not clashing together offensively. Everything is working together.

OK there's more to a good outfit than just colour obviously. I mean look at this...

>>9768043

Green and purple are complimentary but wtf were they thinking? Anyway, i'm sure you get the point.
>>
>>9768043
It's bad but it's not the worst thing I've ever seen
>>
>>9768058
I dont think the full pink look is too match-y in this case, the logo on the dress gives some break to the solid pink and the jacket helps break up the pattern, and the different texture helps bring more of a flow to the design rather than make it all mold together in a blob of pink, plus I think any additional colors would have taken away from the theme of that classic Barbie Brand pink they're going for
>>
>>9767228
Start with fashion history and work your way forward to the present

Size comparison to the Rainbow High dolls
>>
A couple threads back I recall posting something about the creative world body type, today I just got one in and pic related is how it looks like with a vintage skipper head. The body came mildly larger than I expected it to be, but I never saw these in retail or closeout stores so I had no real expectations as for the size of it. I may also need to trim down the joint and top of the neck to fit this head better, but I still wanted to show the results off ITT.

>Gross painted on baby hairs FOR EVERYONE.
>Long ape arms, squat torso.

And this is the "best" mass market doll line on the market today.
>>
>>9769545
Just as I suspected in the past as what happened with the original bratz playlines: that LOL brand’s gone on for too long they’ve spent all their best ideas and the majority of their budget as far as clothes quality is concerned. The last few newest OMGs and especially some of the upcoming BTWs that got leaked are the worst offenders to date if you ask me. Not surprising to see MGA is betting on bratz nostalgia if at some point the LOL brand ends up tanking in sales and goes out to pasture for a while like how monster high did.
>>
>>9769107
That's... um... not a good look. The body is do stylized that it would need a super stylized head... which I guess it does have, but it's stylized differently than the body? I can't quite put my finger on it, but the original OMG works; the head is the same style and design as the body. The new one is just all out of whack.
>>
>>9769545
>>"Let's resell wave 1 to the dumb goys all over again..."
Like Monster High is doing with reproductions? Like bratz with their reproductions too? These aren’t even the exact same designs they are variations. The original ghouls got three different variations of “basic” outfits (original, schools out, and picture day/new scaremester).
>>"...But with a piss-poor quality outfit at a $20 markup!"
Monster high haunt couture was a $50 markup

>>Bigger body, same flat baby face.
It’s kind of the signature of the brand

>>Gross painted on baby hairs FOR EVERYONE.
How are they gross? Doll customizers had been adding painted edges for years before they found their way into playline.

>>Long ape arms, squat torso.
Novi Stars look like that along with a few other brands
>>Bimbo bedroom eyes.
Bratz and Monster High have those too.

The proportions are off. The torso is too small for the arms and legs and the shoulders are too narrow. The proprotions of the OMGs are much more balanced.
It's sad, the fierce face looks much better and they have actual knee joints. I really considered finally getting a LOL doll. The whacky proportions kill it though.

I figured the goal of these was to make them look like a fashion illustration with crazy stretched out proportions, but with an omg head. They probably don't want to mess with the face molds much to keep them looking consistent. I find them interesting because they are so strange, you can kind of see how they designed themselves into it over time.

Companies just saw a lot of buzz for them and can't seem to let them go, they are very 2010s animals which is on brand for Mattel who is very stuck in the 2010s. Popular animals for 2020s are frogs and cows.

Idk the whole story, but they're mad at him for the shortcomings of the 2018 collector Bratz (price they were $50 at the time, quality control some had misprinted faces and the overall fashion design most of it is MGA fault btw) apparently some influential figures (idk all their names but there's itsalexb, brooks, dazzlemalik.... but idk for sure) in the Bratz fandom by jealousy convince every one they were terrible and when Hayden tried to defend himself and blocked peoples Bratz fans were saying he was arrogant and unprofessional and till this day the majority of fans believe this narrative and clown him when he rant about how he was unfairly treated

Why do you have so many black dolls on your "wouldn't buy" categories? Are you some kind of Nazi scumbag?
>>
>>9774555

Yes but do a comparison on the accessories and the fashion. Collector Lala has a dress on that seems to resemble all the same fabric. While the new Lala has a bunch of intricate
the detailed little pieces.
>>
>>9774628

…are you just dense or looking for reasons to be a little cunt?

I counted, there’s 4 black dolls in all their “wouldn’t buy” lists. And yes, a lot
Of those dolls are ugly so I completely agree.

The majority of the new one is made of materials and techniques that are cost cutting, the embroidery alone on the old one jacks up the cost massively. The accessories are small plastic which costs only a few cents per doll. Probably the most costly part of her is the beret. I'd rather have few pieces that feel high quality than many smaller accessories that look and feel cheap, which is what she looks like.

The Monster High creepros are more accurate re-releases then Original Favorites, but they’re not 100% recreations, here are the differences I’ve spotted;

Draculaura:
- pink hair streaks are saran rather than Kanekalon
- eyes printed bigger and closer together
- lipstick is a shade lighter
- buttons on vest are farther apart

Frankie
- hair bump is fuller
- forehead slightly bigger
- skin is a brighter shade of mint green
- eyes printed closer together

Clawdeen:
- clawed hands instead of human hands (needed change since the human hands were an error)
- more glitter eyeshadow on browbone
- slightly longer hair
- eyes printed closer together and angled down

Lagoona:
- more blue streaks in hair
- different texture of hair, shinier and smoother
- stitching on shorts altered slightly
- gold plastic (for jewelry) shinier and more pearlescent
- forward-facing gaze instead of wall-eyed
- fishbowl purse a more vivid shade of blue

Most of these changes are objective improvements though (Lagoona’s face is way better than her classic doll) and there is NO GLUE inside the heads!

Thank you for your autism MH-anon <3 very interesting

I started doll collecting at RH, but have watched MH repaint videos for ages, I just never got into them when they were originally on shelves. I kind of want to get them, but on the other hand I would just like base bodies blank off Aliexpress. I feel like I already have way too many dolls to collect with RH and OMG... even though I'm not even a completionist. I don't wanna end up like xCanadiensis lol

Do the new MH dolls come with stands btw?
>>
>>9777683

I’m not 100% certain on the new ones having stands but every single MH doll in the past came with stands so I would suspect the new ones to as well
>>
>>9777802
The MH repros come with everything the original core 4 did including brushes, doll stands, and diaries.
The brushes and stands are in the original colors as well, although Lagoona’s stand is less pearlescent than the original and the stands are the newer more secure + rod rather than T rods.

The dolls also have plastic peg hips instead of strung elastic hips, and the arm pegs are the new thicker design introduced in the reboot but still with the original body shape.
It’s not a 100% exact reproduction they did make changes, but they are good changes.
As much as the original monster high girls are solid designs, certain aspects of them definitely didn’t age well like the glue in the head that leaked out over time, misaligned wall-eyed faces, loose arm pegs, and hips that weakened over time because the elastic was too stressed.
But when you first release a product to market you don’t always know which engineering issues you’re going to need to prioritize, so it’s just something that happens over the lifetime of a product seeing how it is played with.

>I dearly love Monster and Ever After High, but have zero interest in Rainbow High or LOL or really any other doll line
>I wish there were more franchises like Monster High, creative and, more importantly, well-done

Monster high was also my gateway into doll collecting, but honestly? LOL OMG and rainbow high have better quality and more detailed fashions (made of varying materials) than Monster High did, even at its peak.
Monster high are good character dolls, but they aren’t really fashion dolls in the sense of “taking contemporary fashion trends and shrinking them down to play scale”.

Also we literally JUST got high quality reproductions of the first 4 MH dolls that are 98% identical to the original releases, so shut the fuck up.

the cheap swim dolls are legit for kids to play with in the tub or at the beach
>>
>>9779566
They don't even like hands curled to grip objects for some reason, hence those rings on everything that slide on the hands. They also seem to hate hands painted with gloves, they want bare skin hands even if the character wears gloves, but they might accept those awful oven mitts that slide on over.
>>
>>9779712
For real, who? I wanna know what they get out of it. All I can imagine are fetishists who are into the idea of a person turning into an immobile doll or something. I can't imagine any other appeal in such a rigid pose.
>>
>>9779737
Uniformity. See those oven mitts in the OP? It looks terrible but it's what the collectors want. Things that can't blend into their house-filling hoarder collections don't meet their approval. Then when they die their family gets to toss most of it in the trash or part it off to Goodwill where it'll be soiled during processing & sold for nothing to kids who will probably tear them up in short order.

The alternative is 1:6 where the toys cost as much as a home appliance because of artificial inflation, not any real production costs, because if a moron is willing to pay $300 for a $30 toy will you only charge $30?
>>
>>9779712
>>9779737
>>9779752
This feels like over-thinking, they're literally just dolls for small children to play with in the tub, parents aren't typically going to get pricey fully articulated well dressed dolls for their dumbass kid to dunk in the mud and immediately ruin.
>>
>>9779773
It's not. Doll collectors despise anything that doesn't mesh with the standard design. No one brought up kids until you did. They're not the ones who complain and get these features excluded. Typical /toy/ reading comprehension at work though.

It's literally just because majority of dolls are made with the main demographic, children, in mind, there's no secret cult of doll collectors against articulation or bended hands, it's literally just design yielding to the same parents who bitched when their 5 year old kids MH dolls hand pops out and they don't have two braincells to rub together and figure out they could pop it right back in.

I have an online friend who really likes Monster High (Robecca Steam in his favorite) but he refuses to touch the dolls because “they barely look anything like the characters in the artwork” and “Their faces are creepy and synthetic hair has a really weird gross texture”.
What is he on about??? I don’t understand how you can be a fan of a franchise created to sell dolls, while hating the actual dolls.

I’m there with you anon.

Do you think you’re less likely to support MGA in general? Because—that’s how I feel. I’ve always felt like it was a horrible company.

Not to be mean or anything but is he autistic? That could explain it

Not that anon, but do you really think corporations are your friend?
MGA is not perfect, they do deliberately court controversy with provocative and sometimes age-inappropriate imagery, that is true.
But Mattel has sacrificed appealing trendy doll designs for virtue signaling bullshit (fat amputee dolls with vitiligo).

MGA is the lesser of two evils right now because at least their doll lines reflect real fashion trends with detailed fashions made of luxe materials, Mattel isn’t doing that and hasn’t since 2015.

I go where the good designs are, simple as.
I gave my money to Mattel until 2016 when MH/EAH quality went down the gutter. Then in 2019 MGA launched OMG, a doll line with the same attention to detail and theme that I had loved about monster high.
I didn’t like the first few waves of rainbow high, but this wave has really caught my eye because they’ve seriously ramped up the visual punch. (I wanna buy Meenah, Lila AND Jewel)
If the quality of LOL OMG goes down in the near future (because of the increase in unarticulated budget dolls) I will drop it. If Monster High G3 turns out to have good designs soft hair and full articulation, I will support it.

That is how every doll collector should choose their purchases; not out of blind loyalty to a brand or company, but looking at individual products for effort in design, articulation, detail, and materials.

Do not expect anything from a manufacturer after the doll leaves the factory, and I promise you’ll have a much better time cherishing out the dolls you actually want.

Also beyond design and modern appeal of the dolls, let's not act like Mattel has a squeaky clean reputation, with business, fans, or designers

He probably likes the idea behind them and the art style used in the promotional materials, on the boxes, etc, maybe the cartoons but not the dolls themselves or even dolls in general
The actual dolls do look different than the illustrations on the boxes

I have a bunch of frabric clothes that seems to be staining my dolls. I manage to get rid of the stains, but I don't want to deal with it again.

Any tips on what I can do to treat these clothes or dolls to prevent staining? Stains seem to mostly came from blue jeans, black, and red clothes.

>virtue signaling bullshit
You mean anything that isn't the aryan ideal? Fuck off. The real world doesn't abide by your delusions. You wanna talk REAL virtue signaling? Alice Cooper's "women shouldn't be abused" songs, as if he gives a shit about women.

I soaked my dark doll clothes on Vanish overnight (probably best to separate by color). Seemed to work quite well, a TON of color came out, didn't even fade the clothes.
>>
>>9778887
Thanks anon! Just googled and she's very cute, despite the dumb obi.
>>

I was thinking of throwing all my dark dolly clothes in a bag and washing them on hot a couple times, I assume it happens because the dyes aren't "set" because they were cheaply/poorly dyed. Might ruin them but would rather ruin them or have them a bit faded than have them ruin a doll.

>Vanish
Misread that as "varnish" and I was confused as to why you didn't know how the clothes were staining the dolls

Lmao, would not recommend that!

Thanks again to (you) and anyone else who ever discussed Licca in these threads. My Castle doll arrived today and I'm so obsessed with her. I got her off Mercari thru Buyee and I also ordered the glasses and shoes from Mercari separately just so I'd be sure I'd have shoes to fit her. I probably paid more for her than I needed to but I felt like she had the perfect hair and face combination for me. If I get her a friend I'll probably pick one of the least expensive ones, but I am glad that I spent more on the one that I was really in love with. She's perfect. She's wearing Rainbow High for now I've gotta dig up other doll clothes from boxes in closests to see what else I have that will fit her.

She’s so cute, glad you love her! I’m trying to not buy too many because the shipping fees are rough but I definitely have been thinking of getting another Licca soon, the #Licca line has a few cute ones
>>

She's precious, I love the glasses with that face! That hair color/style was a great choice, I absolutely adore the wavy hair textures with the more natural colors, it really makes me feel like they're more like regular young ladies dressing up and going out, unlike the popular western lines which are all fashion models. Would love to see more pics if you settle on a favorite outfit or get her a pal.

fuck me that hanging chair is on point, is that a storage drawer? that is really well designed
>>
>>9781742
Unpopular opinion but i dont think lol needed main characters nor an ongoing plot it doesn't go well with how the dolls are marketed, they should have done multiple stand alone stories within the lol world with random selection of characters to promote the dolls on the shelves
>>
I was really hoping that I would like the new Ultimate Celebration Snow White doll but I'm eh on her.
