Happy New Year, all! We've made it through another year of mecha goodness.

What were your mecha highlights for the year?

Any disappointments?

What are you looking forward to in 2022?
>>
By my count, we got 53 unique RD releases in 2021. Exclusives dominated the release schedule, with 35 exclusive RDs (not counting lottery and special event releases) whereas regular retail RDs got 18 releases.

The first RD released of 2021 was GP01Fb while Metal RD Billbine was the last.

What a cool collage. Funny how the GM-head looks as good as it does. I guess it's just like any human soldier when their uniform is one but the head gear isn't being worn.
>highlights
GM Quel in terms of releases. I did not expect that to get attention. I believe it reuses a lot of existing molds, but they even gave it that transport truck.
>disappointments
The Quel and the Hover Truck in your image make me a bit sad that there's still no basic Jesta with the pictured vehicle. I'd like to have all the variants and hope they make a "Full Armor" mode possible that combines a lot of the equipment.
>looking forward to
Almost everything announced that isn't out yet. The Xi Gundam is one I'm especially looking forward to the end result of. I've heard it even gets other loadouts/variants further into the story.
>>
I haven't been keeping up, but I see they're releasing the newer Evas now. Have they rereleased the older models from 2.0 yet?

The Metal RD IBOs. Those figures are peak Robot Damashii. Why can't they do those stuff to the regular RDs?
>>
Billbine anon from a few threads back here, I was able to get my defective backpack canon connector replaced by Mandarake by christmas, and have been loving the figure since. The forwards and backwards motion of the shoulder joints influencing whether or not the cockpit hatches open is a nice touch, and the shifting piece behind the kneejoint makes for good options between sticking to accuracy or getting additional articulation. Thus far its my second favorite of the three Dunbine figures I own, with the Zwarth sitting at the bottom and the Dunbine itself at the top. The transformation and detail for a 2013 figure hold up decently well, and its very nice to mess with in tandem with the other figures from the line.
>>
>>9529407
Absolutely nothing, because it's likely all the good shit will be overpriced exclusives and the regular releases will be in released in such low numbers that I have to partake in preorder night.

Loved that I didn't have to deal with the same preorder night shit as you find with SHF or the Metal releases and instead it's become the norm with standard ANIME RD releases.

Some announcement of Zeta or AoZ releases might be alright though.
>>
>Look at Gundam Infinity reviews
Jesus fucking Christ. Not only are there very few reviews(most of which are just people thanking Bandai for sending them free toys) but the figures are terrible. Like worse than early MSiA. They really tried to jump into the build a figure game super late and chose a Zaku, an army builder figure as the build a figure. What the fuck is wrong with them? The BaF should have been a variant like Char's Zaku or something. God, they always make such baffling decisions with Gundam in the west.

It would be really cool if they could release the Dendrobium and Neue Ziel as part of the ANIME line. Have them at a smaller scale so they would not be expensive as fuck. Have all the opening hatches on the Dendrobium, and all the articulated arms on the NZ, with nice display stands for both. It would be awesome.

Yes http://www.sentinel-toys.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=95_59&product_id=623 it's a reissue with better joints planned for June. There's also an exclusive chrome version but it uses the old joints.

Oof, that's a price tag I can't afford. Though after looking at BBTS listings, I found 2 Mazinkaisers that use the Sentinel design. The Moderoid Mazinkaiser Model Kit https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/152628 and the Hagane Works Mazinkaiser. https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/Product/VariationDetails/124182 What would you recommend out of these two if you can't afford the Riobot?

>>9542567
That's a huge price difference. If you have a fair amount of Gunpla experience, I would easily do the Moderoid. It's a very nice kit that looks amazing with just a few paint touchups (and none of them are particularly difficult).

This is a pic of mine. I used Tamiya lacquers to paint the wing frames and scrander gloss red, the elbow and knee joints and chest gem gold, and the few silver/gunmetal parts/gunmetal respectively. A lot of the tiny details like the fact and horns are prepainted. And I was painting the black parts gloss black and then gloss topcoating, but I quit after a few parts because I compared it next to the stock (coated) parts and there honestly wasn't a huge difference, so I just left it alone. It looks decent even as a straight build really, but with just a little TLC you can make it look great.
>>
>>9542990
Oh yeah, and it holds up well, feels solid, articulation is pretty decent, and the seamlines are quite cleverly done (the ones in the forearms are weird swirly shapes so they can hide the seams under those swirls, for example).

Hilarious, but if we're using the top right image, it's not that Nu was scaled down, it's that the pod was scaled up so that audiences could better see what was happening. Over the last 2 years, and especially the last 6 months or so, it's been feeling like Bandai isn't producing as many RDs. The days of them being in stock for months are long over, and most anticipated releases have been selling out of POs the night of, and being very difficult to find in stock. I'd say your best bet is checking out Mandarake or YAJ as they release, and hopefully they aren't too much more expensive than retail. I don't buy RDs through anyone Bluefin distributes to so I'm not sure how safe it is to wait on them.

I'm a big fan of the Robot Damashii Ingrams as they're excellent toys. I think the best one to purchase would be the movie version, as that one includes the most accessories along with parts to display the Ingram as either Unit 1 or Unit 2.

That being said, the movie version has gotten a bit pricey on the secondary market, so if you can't find the movie version at a reasonable price then I think the TV version would do you fine if you're just after a good, affordable Ingram toy. I own the TV versions myself and they're the exact same figure as the movie version, just some color differences and fewer packed in accessories as TV Unit 1 and 2 were released as separate figures.

Here's TV Unit 1 for 4500 JPY:

https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1184536963&lang=en

And if Unit 2 is your preference, here's one for 5500 JPY (TV Unit 2 was a web exclusive):

https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/detailPage/item?itemCode=1062874890&lang=en

I've also heard extremely good things about the Robo-Dou as >>9554547 suggests, and I'm pretty tempted by them myself. They're pricey, but they're also 9" tall with diecast inner frames and electronics. If you're in the US, Entertainment Earth has them in stock and coupon code 2103212 would knock 15 bucks off the price. Main thing stopping me from biting on the Robo-dou is the lineup if labors I already have with the RD line.

I own the Robo-Dou. It's a very nice piece, lovely detail and very solid feeling. The cloth covers over the joints feel high quality too. The range of motion isn't huge, but it can get most basic Ingram poses done. It ALMOST scratches that Yamato itch for me, just not quite. That's pretty much the only real bad thing I can say about it: it doesn't look as cool to me as the Yamatos.

Oh yeah, and I also own the Robot Damashiis. Those are also very good, and more playable, but the Robo-Dou is definitely much more impressive on a shelf. I'd get the Damashiis for play, Dou for display. In writing this paragraph I am just now realizing how confusing it is that both lines abbreviate to "RD" and the first word is nearly identical.

If you want the best Patlabor toys : Robo-Dou.
If you want the biggest and the ones with the most gimmicks (but huge proportion issues) : Yamato
If you want "cheap" yet good figures with a large selection : Robot Damashii + Moderoid (they scale perfectly).
>>9554794

Do you own the Yamato figures? The size and gimmicks are nice but the proportions are off in hands. A lot of pics tend to hide that. I sold them as soon as I got the Robot-Dou. It's a shame the Robo-Dous don't have the working pelvic wire and bullet storage in the left leg.

Can someone explain to me what's going on with GSC and Sentinel? I thought Sentinel started the Plaiobot line to make Riobot like figures in model kit form yet GSC released a Mazinkaiser Moderoid based on Riobot Mazinkaiser and now this.
>>
>>9555094
The Moderoid kit is good? That's cool to hear as nice as the Robo-Dou looks, my budget's been kinda small lately so the model kits are probably what I'm going to go with for now. That, and the Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter 1 kits look amazing as well

Pretty sure this is bullshit. For one thing they haven't finished 08th MS Team. It's also in English. And finally there is no reason to black out the Strike Gundam. It was already revealed. And also wasn't referred to as an ANIME release when it was shown off.

Fake as fuck. This is just an Evolution Spec type deal. They're just not calling it that since the ES F91 was a commercial train wreck.

Has any of the joint 'covers' on the Ingrams cracked on you? I know that it was a problem with the RD Saturn that mine, other anons and potentially even you have found out a few months back. But not quite sure if it was a Patlabor line problem or just the Saturn itself. Also I really hope they still haven't given up on the Labors, I want the Helldiver and Reactive Armor Ingrams.

I am aware that the Yamato proportions are funky, they have huge linebacker shoulders and chests and look too squat. But understand, these are toys I stared at for hours and hours wishing for them in the early 2010s. Picked up the Metal Robot Damashii Force Impulse, and it is tiny. Noticeably more so than the IBO MRD I have, which are the Vidar, Lupus, and Lupus Rex. Sort of disappointed. Ain't too keen at paying >$100 for a figure so small. I'll probably sell the MRD Force Impulse and stick with IBO suits from the MRD line. Already got MRD Bael on pre-order from P-Bandai USA
>>
I'm a complete new fag to collecting figures so I'm sorry if this is not the right thread to ask this but are there any good Gunbuster figures?
>>
>>9558637
Super Robot Chogokin and Soul of Chogokin are pretty good. Former if you want a smaller scale you can play and mess around with and latter if you want a display piece. Get ready to pay out the ass for them though, they haven't been reissued and last I checked they went for a lot.
You can also get your hands on the Revoltech which has a more mushy sculpt but is cheaper than both for like 30 dollars on second hand sites like Mandarake. If you're willing to put some work in, you can get the 1/1000 model kit by Aoshima which you'll have to assemble and potentially paint yourself.

>>

>how likely is it to be reissued?
Not very. It hasn't had a second run since its initial release in 2013.There's always a chance but don't hold your breath about it. Bandai is more likely to make a brand new figure of it than to reissue it at this point. If either do happen you'll probably hear about it in this general though.

The MRD IBO suits are abnormally scaled up compared to other RDs, and even HGs. If you prefer the larger size I recommend sticking to MBs or start building MGs.

Already got a sizable MB collection going, and I've built several MGs and PGs already. Just going to stick with IBO suits for the MRD line and avoid other MRD suits going forward.

>newer ANIME releases are getting sold out on preorder now. For a while I could still buy stuff I wanted after release. Are Bandai making less of these now or what?
It is possible. 0079 ANIME toys were a huge success for Bandai, to a point where things that are not-0079 simply do not sell as well based on that alone. Maybe the fact that the last few years the ANIME line has been doing stuff that wasnt from 0079 meant Bandai purposefully made production runs of those things smaller because they knew they would sell less.
>>
First Gundam I've painted in years, found out about micro wars and have really enjoyed how cute they are

I kinda missed it when it first came out, but do the biceps on the new unit 00 suck or it it just mine? I absolutely can't get the yellow and white parts flush with each other no matter what I do, and actually turning the arm makes it even worse. It feels like the peg should be popping into the arm, but there's a good couple millimeters of wiggle room in there. Kinda funny, because I got the RG kit over the RD when they first came out, and it had a similar problem, probably because of the same arm swapping gimmick.

Riobot R-1 transformation looks so pitiful.
https://youtu.be/G10eCsLGyRQ
>>
>>9566825
I'm not surprised really. I didn't expect it would be a perfect transformation given how convoluted the transformation needs to be and I would much rather them focus on an actually stable SRX than trying to fill it with a bunch of hinges to make it work.
>>
>>9566238

Never was fond of Aegis myself, it's just such an aesthetic departure from the rest of the the GAT line.

You have 4 gundams that share very similar design paths then all the sudden transformation gimmick.

Every time I've collected seed gundams I've always skipped Athrun's suits the color is pretty offputting as well.

Is it really such an oddball though? Then again I always saw them as a series that together was ready for anything, but even split up often had abilities that mimicked and could make up for one not being around. With the exception of invisibility since that's just a whole other level of tech. Still, I suppose that much red does stand out in a way no other color being the majority does.
>>
>>9567325
Maybe it's doable with today's tech? Still, since it doesn't look that sleek when transformed and is more about the functions, it's probably better to just give parts to swap to keep the cost down some.

It's cool but how do you conclude it's the best?

My RD Lancelot started yellowing...especially around seamlines and parts that were visibly snapped together. Does anyone know what causes this? Humidity? Exposure to artificial light?
>>
>>9570877
Depends on the environment, I'd assume you're keeping it out of direct sunlight so ruling that out yeah it's probably due to humidity if you're in a hot country, though sometimes you just get really unlucky and no matter what you do the plastic starts to yellow by itself. If you wanna attempt to re-whiten it you can do the old hydrogen peroxide trick but I dunno how that would affect the paint.

At best we got the Sniper Ground GM and EZ8 and that will probably conclude 08th MS Team right?
>>
>>9575308
Gouf flight type seems possible since there's a lot of reuse from the gouf custom, beyond that though yeah I don't expect them to do any of the redrawn 0079 stuff, it would be cool but none of them are official variants so its unlikely.
>>
>>9575260
I still have my hard point Gouf Custom from 2011. Still a great toy honestly. One of the best Robot Spirits ever made IMO. But I'll still get the ANIME Ver.

Kino
Hope they make the FA also
Reissue the Mk-II as well you cowards
>>
>>9575260
Looks great. Accessories aren’t bad; they seem a little light, but there isn’t really anything missing, and the flash and thruster effects are appreciated. Hopefully they do a Flight Type too.

>>9575256
Looks okay, but looks to be a pricy brick and the effect parts aren’t really the best either. I’ll think about it because I like the design enough. Just reminds me I’m really salty we never got an MP Guncannon though.
>>
>>9575473
>Hope they make the FA also
For that price it should have came with optional FA. 2 cray bazookas and a beam rifle is not a lot of accessories.
>>
>>9575308
We'll probably get a Gouf Flight Type, GM Sniper Ground GM, Ball-K and the Zaku High Mobility Test Type. Though I assume all will be P-Bandai.

Kimaris Vidar was teased, can we hold out hope that Flauros and Gusion Rebake Full City will come at some point?
>>
>>9575246
>>9575249
Ah, so thats why it got into SRW 30
>>
>>9575256
I'm all the more tempted now
>>
>>9575733
If only IBO was still doing regular RD. I've wanted GR and GRFC for a while. As for Flauros, while I do think they'll choose good colors for its main appearance I do hope for the Calamity Wars color scheme to come along. Would be all the more likely if they were RD instead of MRD.

Do either of these have any PO dates?

>coronavirus shield
You guys weren't kidding. Who thought this was a good idea?
>>
>>9577251
I get that people don't actually know anything nowadays but jesus fucking christ. The Nu and Hi-Nu have had this shield paint for over 20 years.
>>
>>9577259
Was just looking for this illustration.
I'm into it, I like the polka dots.
>>
>>9577259
It doesn't change the fact it looks absolutely HIDEOUS when contrasted against the more angular lines of the MB design. They should have stuck to the original Izbuchi lineart and proportions if they wanted to go down this route.

So this upcoming month? I want to be ready to order them.

>redesign everything
>except the shield that literally every other redesign has pretended has solid lines

weird choice honestly, i can only assume they did this on purpose to make the add-on pack more enticing

Fuck off with that "OG all good" elitism bullshit. A shit design's a shit design.

They made the corona shield to sell the HWS
>>
>>9577794
The only probable explanation. Still a scummy move to be pushing essential DLC for their most expensive release yet.
>>
>>9577259
My theory is that the illustrator's portraying bullet stains in the shield but Katoki went 'polka dots!'.

>>
>>9577259
Was that illustration from before it got official colors or something?
I'm liking the impression of the art but when it's got purple it's awkward, although, some of that is because this is a mass-produced figure. That and the other applications of the same color are more like stripes.
Sell me a Hi-Nu like this illustration. Make it off-white/smoke with just a bit of color for the eyes, v-fin, Amuro's emblem and other lights.

I accidentally ordered something on Mandarake while trying to see the how much I would paying for the item after shipping. Turns out, they calculate shipping and other additional fees ONLY after you confirmed your order. What the fuck is this bullshit? Why can’t I see the grand total of an item BEFORE placing an order? Is this common for other online retailers?

According to their terms, they’ll suspend my account if I decide to cancel
>>
>>9579564
Amiami does this too
>>
>>9579564
Yes a lot of import sites that ship worldwide will make you wait to give you your total after you've placed the order. Even much more popular sites like AmiAmi do it too. I've had that happen with Mandarake to me twice because I've accidentally ordered from several of their locations instead of one in a single order, I let the deadline end without paying which cancels the order, but I have had more paid orders with them than unpaid at that point so maybe they haven't suspended me out of goodwill. I'd say take your chances and ask for a cancellation or have it cancelled by waiting out the deadline, Mandarake is definitely not as unforgiving with cancelled orders as AmiAmi is.
>>
>>9579564
They also do this because they have to check for availability since they're a second hand store that sells to people in their storefront (AmiAmi also has a second hand section). If it turned out an item you ordered is actually not in stock and they give you your total before checking, it's more of a headache on their end to deal with that.
>>
>>9579564
Like people have been saying, it's common among Japanese webshops, ones that give you a shipping estimate beforehand are uncommon. Hell, there are even some places I shop at that give you an estimate at checkout but then may change and charge you more later. Just bite the bullet, take this as a learning experience and do this in the future:

1. Check Mandarake's box size chart, they are surprisingly accurate. You first find the dimensions of your toy (which are listed on their respective pages).

2. Find the box on their chart that will fit your toy. Make sure you allow for a bit of wiggle room and packing material, Mandarake will refuse to do things that endanger the product.

3. Now find the shipping price for that box. Boom, you have your shipping estimate.

This is kind of a pain in the ass because they have a ton of box sizes, they aren't categorized by size, and you need to compare the sizes to your toy one by one. But it does work. So, if you don't want to be surprised, do the legwork next time.

Does anyone know why there’s 2 Address fields on the Mandarake shipping form?
>>
>>9580201
You might be in the Japanese version of the site. You'll have to enter though the EARTH version, otherwise the site thinks you want to ship domestically within Japan and it gives you a different shipping form.

There's something I really like about how the backpack sticks out and thinking about the pilot managing that weight distribution.

How different will this be compared to the original Custom that came out years ago? That's probably my all time favorite release.

Can't you tell by the picture? First off it comes with a lot less accessories. It has no hard point features, and is better proportioned to resemble the lineart. So basically every aspect of it is different from the 2011 release.
>>
It’s been 1 day since I ordered some stuff from Mandarake and they still haven't sent me any tracking information yet. Should I be worried?
