A thread for discussion of fashion dolls including Barbie, Disney, LOL OMG, Living Dead Dolls, Licca-chan etc but not BJD.

Other toys considered dolls as well as girl collectable toys that are related to dolls or can be used as accessories to dolls are also welcome such as LOL, Capsule Chix, Shopkins, Polly Pocket and the like.

I promise you nobody is going to think that you’re like some Australian nonce just because you have a doll collection. That’s some neurotic projection to an insane degree.
Stop having a chip on your shoulder about this hobby, it’s getting really fucking annoying at this point.

Men should be allowed to participate in things deemed “feminine“ without being labeled a “sissy boy” or predator.

I agree with you these look pretty neat.

They look very retro 1990s for some reason with the pastel colors, so I’m surprised that they’re not branded with Jurassic Park considering how many licensed collabs Barbie has done recently (hello Kitty, super Mario, Roxy, etc).

Cool. I guess Mattel really wants a piece of that "Autistic Female" fad that's been popular with the kids these days.

>>
>>9427212
Oh yes, one doll during the nineties during the height of the JP movies PROVES that Mattel has always appealed to the autistic female.

...Or more likely it just proves that Matty follows popular trends to make a quick buck and will drop it when it stops being profitable.

Why are you being so hostile about it

Huh, interesting. I like that we can see her face and hair (it's annoying having to return a doll because their face is messed up), but she is already fully clothed, so I wonder what 20 surprices she can possibly have. Earrings (2), shoes (2), necklace (1 or 2), a skateboard (1), a bag (1), the "magazine"/"notebook" (1)... that's still not even 10, let alone 20. Will she have a second outfit or something?

>New packaging for the new omg series 5(bff), most of spring 22 releases may have this new window box style
I’m so happy they’re finally moving to window boxes but I don’t like that she’s already dressed because that means no garment bags. LOL has never reused a garment bag design and every single character has their own unique pattern, it would be a a shame to lose that.
The “dressing the doll” gimmick is actually fun as well and I’ve come to like that as a play feature over time.

I'm looking for a bit of advice on how to remove the eye/liptstick paint from a barbie doll head from the 90s. Maybe people swear acetone is the way to go, but my experience with that is that it ruins plastics immediately. Is this the way to go? Or will methylated spirits be a safer bet?

A line of mermaid dolls with articulated hard plastic tails with MGA quality? Damn, between this and OMG dolls now packaged in windowboxes it’s like they read my doll wish list
>>
>>9434202
I have a feeling they’re gonna be shitty Dream Ella type dolls.
>>
>>9434294
Can't you read ? They're over 30usd, articulate and have inset eyes. They're more rainbow high type of dolls
>>
>>9433974
I haven’t intentionally tried it myself but i feel like something on the lines of rubbing alcohol should do the same trick as well as anything acetone-based.
>>
Fun fact: the animation studio that do the webseries for rainbow high and omg also do the mermaid high webserie. Could it be a petty move from MGA ?
>>
>>9434616
>Could it be a petty move from MGA ?

I doubt it. Mermaid High just came out and is catered for the traditional Fashion Doll market. While these Mermaze dolls will be out in February 2022 at the earliest and look to be a sub-line to the Nanana dolls. Since most toy lines take more than a year from concept to release, I think it's just synchronicity of the popular & common mermaid doll theme.
>>
>>9433974
Acetone is bad for Barbie torsos (due to being made of ABS plastic), the acetone is okay on vinyl heads. I find it safer than other removers because you can wipe off the paint easily and only expose the heads to acetone for a short amount of time.

Non acetone removers take a LOT more effort to remove the paint and often people leave micro tears and scratches trying to shift the paint off. It's not worth spending ages scrubbing off a paint when acetone is proven to remove paint in seconds. I would never recommend acetone on any other plastic asides from the vinyl heads of dolls though.
>>
>>9434643
The nanana are just placeholders they will be their own new things.
The point is either companies could have pulled a jem/ barbie and the rocker situation or a bratz/ my scene things
>>
>>9435063
Mermaids are like Princesses or Fairies in the doll toy business. It's a common trope used in many doll lines to broadly appeal to little girls.

If that wasn't the case, then Mermaze & Mermaid High would be considered rip-offs of the numerous Barbie mermaid sub-lines, which in itself could be a rip-off of "The Little Mermaid."

There's also the fact that Mermaid High is new, yet so far hasn't made much of an impression on kids or collectors. Not like Bratz or Monster High or OMG when those hit the scene. You're trying to spark a controversy that just isn't there.
>>

You’re gonna have to elaborate anon I’m not exactly sure what you mean. All anime style dolls have fuck huge eyes
>>
>>9434066
Am begining to worry that MGA its going to cannibalise itself with all these doll lines and we end up with a mattel situation during the MH days... that said i feel kinda bad for mermaid high am not in love with their dolls (really not liking their face sculps but they seemed cute) so i imagine MGA wants them out of the toy aisle

The Malibu/Pacific coast line is coming in january so we can expect them to show up in december,
For now we know they come with a swimsuit look, a fabric hat and bag plus a doll sized beach towel
They're also rumored to come with a second look, one color change accessories and a surfboard for a retail price of 32usd
>>
>>9448720
>tiny detailed handbag with ribboned chain straps and everything
God just take my money now
>>

There is a second outfit? Oh, ok, that explains the price point. I was kinda baffled as to how they could justify a swimsuit line, even a very nice one, being so expensive.

If it's labelled as white and theyre both from the same seller, it should match. The stock images are all fucked up cuz obitsu/Azone never fucking update their stock images. I own a few Azones, I’ve noticed that sometimes the head vinyl will vary in color depending on the date/batch. Sometimes it’s subtle but I have one limited edition doll that has a head that totally doesn’t match. Putting clothes on the doll usually helps make the difference not so obvious. Skin colors I’ve seen so far are tan, flesh, whitey, and super white.

>I recognize that doll crotch!

Although it's quite ironic that they used Clawdeen, seeing as how should would be very hairy "down there." As a matter of fact, which MH girl would be really affected by winter crotch syndrome? Half of the girls are undead, so stone cold pussies are the norm. And most of the other girls are some animal hybrid, so they would be in Clawdeen position as having a fuzzy & warm minge. Best candidate would be Venus with her plant pussy. Plants don't do well in the cold anyway. Maybe Jinafire because she's basically a cold blooded reptile.

Anyways, feel free to discuss frozen monster pussies amongst yourselves.

That’s not what’s going on dude. Just because we don’t want to engage with your weird fetishes doesn’t mean this is an “MGA echo chamber”. They’re making dolls that people want to buy and Mattel is not, simple as that. MGA has as their own issues with QC and distribution but at least they are trying.
I WANT Mattel to make good dolls again but they continue to shit out low effort garbage in spite of everything. Their answer to OMG is Barbie Extra which is a complete disaster so I’ve lost hope for the company entirely at this point

>Just because we don’t want to engage with your weird fetishes doesn’t mean this is an “MGA echo chamber”.
Monster pussies are not my weird fetish, but it was something akin to what we'd often talked about during the glory days of MH. Sure, it's dumb, but talking about Reobecca's mechanical pussy flaps is far more fun & engaging than the boring "upvote" comments the latest OMG leak gets. Nowadays we can't have fun posts like the recent reddit doll cringe posts without sticks in the mud like >>9463295 telling people to "stop it," like they're the authority around here.

>They’re making dolls that people want to buy and Mattel is not
Agree with you there, but doing better than Barbie is such a low bar to jump over that any doll maker with the gumption could make a better doll than Mattel. Only MGA is willing to do so while Mattel is content to play the waiting game, holding on till OMG fizzles out to retain top doll status. Frankly, there's been a general "Why bother?" malaise with dolls nowadays. Nobody's really putting any effort into doll making anymore. It's probably due to shrinking child market, rising manufacturing costs, and feminism questioning every little thing about dolls.

And no, the answer is not drinking the kool-ade and give into the OMG/RH cult. I know I'm not the only one who doesn't like their HUEG heads and golly-woog eyes. But more damming for me is that they just don't have the personality like MH/EAH or even Life in the Dreamhouse had. All the dolls look like they came from the same cookie cutter dress-up flash game.

I just want normal proportioned, well articulated dolls with personality, but I guess that's too high of a standard in today's doll market.

I get not liking a style of doll, but you're a huge bitch about the thread enjoying current dolls and preferring it to stay on the topic of collecting, rather than indulging in your cringey ass posts. There's no cult, no kool-aid, it's people discussing the best playline dolls on shelves right now which happens to be OMG and RH, and it'sperfectly fine to criticize both, it's actually done fairly regularly here with MGAs poor QC, and the dolls could use more character building, but I dont get how you can look at what MGA is putting out and call it "no effort", their current dolls have insane clothing details. What you seem to be missing is a younger fandom, indulging in cringey younger fandom behavior, no one wants to RP with you anymore. If you're feeling a "Why bother?" malaise with dolls nowadays, maybe that's your problem.

it's not a cult.
I just really love the OMG and RH doll.
OMG because of the level of details, super feminine boodies with long legs and edgy fashion.
RH because of the glass eyes and level of details and super girly fashion.
I personnally prefer cartoonish dolls over realistic one, that's why once bratz appear, Barbie didn't do anything for me anymore.
It's not about brand loyalty. MGA is just selling good fashion dolls atm.
Mattel is not.
Maybe because they are cheap, or too afraid of karen moms and desingenious ""feminist"" complains from people who don't like dolls.

That’s because most doll lines don’t have a story or lore attached to them, MH was a rare exception.
>All the dolls look like they came from the same cookie cutter dress-up flash game.
The primary purpose of fashion dolls is to be dress up mannequins, idiot

>I just want normal proportioned, well articulated dolls with personality, but I guess that's too high of a standard in today's doll market.
Monster High dolls were never “normally proportioned“, in fact their giant heads and skinny bodies generated quite a bit of controversy way back when the line first came out.
“Personality” is only something that happens if there’s an existing tie-in tv show. Most dolls don’t have any elaborate MOTU-like backstory anyway.
if that’s really such a big concern, you can invent your own stories for the dolls when you play with them. Do you have such little imagination that you need everything spoonfed to you?

After reading your comments, I’ve finally realized what has happened to the Fashion/Other Doll General threads of late. I’m just an oldfag doll poster who’s still in the chaotic mindset of the way the board used to be. What with the Monster High perverts, the Disney autists, and the stoic Barbie collectors. You anons are the new breed of doll posters. Far more focused on the actual dolls than idle, free wheeling chit-chat.

I see now that doll general’s culture has changed, leaving me behind as one of the last holdouts of the previous generation of anons who liked to discuss such things like fan lore and ribald inside jokes. Don’t get me wrong. I still think that you kids with your fancy MGA dolls are all a bunch boring prudes! But it was my mistake to think that I was still in familiar company.

Such changes were bound to happen, but I never realized the turnover would happen so quickly.

I mean if you try to talk about anything bit the actual dolls it gets pretty heated... like if you wanna talk about doll collector drama... good luck, about company drama... maybe, about theories regarding the shows or storylines... thats assuming anybody else is consuming it or wants to share... and the only fan art ppl post here its the lets make fun of this cringy shit (which usually is fair cuz its cringe fan art)
>>
>>9465209
Monster high g2 was like 5 years ago. Shit's changed old man.
>>
Gonna finally get one of the LOL BTW tween dolls, which one of the first wave is the best in this threads opinion?
>>
>>9466288
I love the one with black & blue hair, I forgot her name. I like her aesthetic most, that's just my opinion though!

>>9465686
I don't think they were shrunk! Bratz dolls are actually quite small, I was surprised how tiny they were when I dug up my old Bratz dolls from my childhood. I think I remember them being bigger since I was smaller as a child lol
>>
>>9464827
I know right?? It was definitely one of her cooler projects and turned out fantastic. I wonder if anyone's reuploaded it
>>
>>9464827
>>9467091
Yeah. And now she as a whole creator has been tarnished and cancelled. Good grief.
>>
>>9466288
I thought cherry was the best in the first wave, I'm so pumped for wave two though. They all look fantastic
>>
>>9467096
I don't think she's entirely lost her following, it didn't end up as bad as it could have which I'm glad about. Helps she's finally getting over her hump of rather mediocre customs. I shudder even thinking about Charly.....

I love the box art on these, why can't the main line box art be that expressive?
>>
>>9467096
I just think her current slate of customs have been a range of mediocre to really really really lazy/shit especially since she keeps insisting on using delicate/cheap materials or choosing a lazier method for her recent work. Like I don't like Hextian's methods but he's shown steady improvement and knows what he wants to make while Dollightful has basically devolved and every custom video this year has lacked any thought or effort.
Like her newest mermaid custom is repaired with tacky glue instead of super glue or epoxy, she didn't even use acetone to remove the factory paint, just globbed on acrylic paint to cover up the mismatch parts/original paint instead of using her airbrush or at least using thinner paints to get less brushstrokes and used air dry clay without refining the sculpt afterwards either by sanding or carving so they look like marshmallows glued on.
And these are all things she's shown she can do better methods with, and with much more care and time. But instead she's so obsessed with making sure each doll gets an extreme custom mod, a custom outfit, custom skin tone, a full reroot and repaint so every video now is very hard to watch cuz she's mangling a doll not customizing it. Plus since she never brings back those dolls for more than a few seconds in future videos I don't have as much incentive to go back and rewatch them like I did with her Eeveelution or Halloween series.
Plus compare this year's Halloween custom which was a generic ass lolita girl to her previous years which were all much more horror themed/detailed/better materials and it's clear the passion for customizing has truly left her. I can only tolerate her perky faux tone of speaking while watching dolls get mangled for so long.
I really don't think people have cancelled her, they just grew bored of her videos because she doesn't put the same amount of effort or care that she used to.
>>
>>9467727
I totally agree. I think the downfall of her using quality materials stayed with that nyx dragon when she used *sigh* hot glue and paper to sculpt up the legs...
>>
>>9462485
Sorry it took me so long to reply! I ended up taking a spray bottle full of water and lightly misting her hair while gently brushing and that helped a lot! I got the orange butterfly one when RH first came out and her hair was so nasty and crunchy I had to wash it multiple times before it became soft, but they must have pumped the breaks on using so much gel because Cher was much softer and workable right out of the box. Her hair isn't perfect and I still might wash it eventually but right now I don't want to fiddle too much with her and ruin her bouncy curls I'm afraid I won't be able to replicate them. But gosh she really is pretty I'm very pleased with how she looks. I think I got one with heavy makeup they didn't have any without lipliner at the target I was at

Barbie Rewind dolls are half off on both Amazon & WM today. Any other good deals going on?
>>
>>9465209
some of us are still here, but the general has changed drastically. I attribute it to less creative dolls has invariably, lead to blander and less creative discussions. (and people.)
>>
>>9469941
>less creative dolls
>>
>>9469969
Sorry, the creativity of the new NWO/OMG dolls compared to the MH line is night and day.
>>
>>9470023
Controversial opinion probably, but OMG has been consistently creative and fashionable with great detail and range in outfit designs that Monster High only touched on a handful of times, I say this as someone who loves MH, but a lot of their outfits were pretty basic with some thematic print
>>
>>9470065
again, since I was agreeing with the poster above I know I am in the minority. I'm just agreeing with him the 'feel' of the thread has changed.
Which I am okay with. Different dolls means different crowd. I still like lots of different kinds. It is also interesting to hear different opinions.

I guess you are right about the range of outfits. I can't get over the face though.
>>
>>9470086
Oh for sure the face is probably OMGs biggest downfall since they really have next to zero range when it comes to expression and even the makeup is rarely ever interesting, with such big eyes they really don't do much with them creatively.
>>
>>9470295
I think with the last wave they've started to branch out, different makeup shapes and eyebrows give them different expressions. Take Daphne and the ugly purple one for example, different expressions from the same mold iirc (I don't remember if purple has the almond eye shape or not). That being said, the face mold is still really limiting... I wish MGA had a line of quality dolls with a more regular shaped head
>>
>>9470295
>the face is probably OMGs biggest downfall since they really have next to zero range when it comes to expression and even the makeup is rarely ever interesting
Are you blind? Since series 2 they’ve been doing a lot of different makeup looks for the OMG; Downtown BB’s checkered lipstick, Bhad Gurl’s striped eyebrows, Ferocious’s leopard pattern eyeshadow, Moonlight BB’s graphic liner, Gamma Babe’s constellation cheek marking, etc
Don’t post blatant lies about “bad design” just because you don’t personally like MGAs big head proportions.
>>
>>9470590
True, they are getting better
>>9470647
Where did I say anything about "bad design" I never even said that I don't like them, it's just the weaker part of the line to me and plenty other people. I personally think they could go a bit more dramatic with the makeup, but that's just me, and to be fair on MGA they do follow modern makeup trends. You need to chill out

Nice finds! Do you have any more shots of that huge Bratz doll? I managed to find a Winx doll yesterday which I'm pretty stoked about.

Anyone have any of the Harmonia Bloom dolls? They look like a good alternative to Volks (I don't have space for them) and I like the way they look. Any advice if I'm looking to start getting into premium Japanese dolls? I was thinking about buying my favorite base doll and then buying different outfits as I see fit.
>>

I have never even heard of these, but she is so pretty!! I think there is an occasional BJD thread here and a general in /jp/

i think they're made by the same companies that make figma. i don't own one but they're super cute

The exact same things were said about Monster High when it came out around a decade ago, lest we forget.
It’s the same pattern; an edgy well-designed doll line with exaggerated proportions becomes a best seller with kids and adult collectors alike despite parents and feminists complaining. And when the creators eventually do cave to complainers after a few years and tone down the makeup and outfits, sales plummet due to downgraded design and quality. Many such cases!
>>
I decided over Black Friday to FOMO into getting the black rewind Barbie, as far as factory clothes went she was my least favorite of the trio, and all of them I’m surprised how much better they can look in anything but their original clothes.
>>
>>9473602
I never thought of Monster High as trashy. I actually prefer the old designs and tone, the new ones seem boring. I was shocked to see they changed the mummy girl from a bully to a boring whatever she is now.
>>
>>9473951
I think the Workout girl had the biggest glow-up compared to how gaudy the original outfit looks. Amazing what a difference letting her hair down and doing a complete redress makes
>>
>>9473972
I like her gaudy look
>>
>>9464502
They're implying the doll's outfit looks like a dominatrix. I think the image might be from some specific meme or be otherwise meant as recognizable but i don't recognize it, it still gets the pointa cross though
>>
>>9473602
Oh my fucking god stop with the "feminists complaining" shit otome. You seem to have an irrational fear of them. Why? Most parents complaining about "trashy" shit are not doing it out of feminist view, but purity culture. And mainstream feminism now is all about being a glammed up yaas queen, the short haired FeMiNaZi boogeyman you schizo over daily is not real. You clearly have some internalized issues - why are you bringing up muh feminism and women who DARE to like or do anything other than very strict traditional princess ruffles and long blond curl at every point?

(For disclaimer, I like the things I mentioned myself. No, that message did not mention half of the stuff, but it's always the same anon reee'ing about muh feminazis at every point - and she is a female herself I believe.)

Definitely not a female normal women don't act like that
>>
>>9474156
There was / is an autist in the discord who gets extremely triggered by short hair on women, and they at least claimed to be a woman
>>
>>9474212
She's right, short hair is cancerous. Feminists invaded public thought and opinion via academia and therefore it is always valid to complain about them. "Purity culture" moms were influenced by feminists in the same that they influenced "romcoms something something sexist and bad" in male critics of films. "Princesses/Twilight/Romcoms are dumb and bad because it's sexist" is parroted by male critics who don't care about sexism because feminist academia is an infectant, and it's the same for Purity Culture Moms. They're useful idiots and all the actual academia behind it comes from feminists.

Don't have any conversation about feminist academia and how it has influenced other media. Just admitting feminist academia exists is schizo, okay buddy, sure enjoy that academia boot in your mouth. Don't ask questions just consume product and then get excited for next product.

I’m not Otome, that person has a completely different typing style.
Otome is a God tier weeaboo who hates non-anime aesthetic, that sure as hell isn’t me.
