I was just checking out some of Gudi's upcoming releases, and it looks like they moved to a propietary design for their minifigures at some point. Seems to be the direction all the main Chinese brands are going to avoid Lego lawsuits.

It all started with the Tiger Ausf. E.
After that I bought a M24 Chaffee, a T 34, a Panzer IV and Sherman. All in the last 2 weeks.

Time to take control then before it gets really out of hand, that's a lot in a short time, especially if that persists/increases to the point where you're cutting into costs of living. Put together a rewards program, work out a budget, force yourself to not buy any more until you've derived some fun from the tanks you have... just a few ideas if you're actually in need of an intervention. Cobi tanks are rarely affordable in my area but I was buying several other brands' tanks off AliExpress last year, financial considerations forced my hand but storage space (a pre-existing concern) became just as much of a limiting factor.
>>
Well, the experiment with the "GOBRICKS Store" on Aliexpress failed. This one: https://www.aliexpress.com/store/911930528

After sitting in the status "cancelled" and an invalid tracking number for almost two months, I opened a dispute, and it was essentially immediately granted. It's annoying as hell to have to do it individually for each item, but oh well.

Too bad. I wish there was an easy way to grab Gobricks bricks there, but it's back to resellers for me.
>>

Finances have been a little tight of late, plus the one recent AliExpress order I made (a small one for some printed tiles) took over a month to arrive due to the ongoing snarls at the borders, kinda reluctant to order anything more at this time. Local sources of Chinese legos haven't had much new stock of interest for a while either.
>>

>>

I reckon there isn't much of an overlap between being old enough to have plenty of disposable income, going out of your way to find alternatives to Lego after growing up with it and actually hanging out on 4chan of all places.
>>

Just look up "Building block", "Moc" or "Lego" and add "lot".
Many shops sell lots of different pieces on aliexpress

Got those Sluban Predators sets a couple years ago during the initial lockdown, great-looking designs and I really dig their take on the Predator in their fig style, though it makes him the same size as everyone else when he should be somewhat larger. I had some clutch issues with both, but especially with the APC set.

The APC's problem is the side armor: with Lego it would already be a bit fragile, while Sluban's slightly softer clutch has been a source of frustration. After a particularly irritating accident I ended up gluing a few of the parts together, wasn't ever going to decommission the vehicle for other use anyway and it's worth the reduction in headaches.

That's not a BURP, anon. This is a BURP.

What you have there is a LEGO-47847 piece, which as far as I'm concerned is worse - it's a confused mix between being decorative and structural.
>>
I got all details i wanted on those Sluban sets.

By combining predator's UH-1 with AH-1Z (especially tail and turbine/rotor assembly) you can get a modern UH-1Y or a Vietnam era Cobra.

I'll use those as templates to build with better bricks. If Sluban quality is still MEH.

I remember also seeing tan and olive drab Cobras on Ali maybe from other brands.

>A toy gearbox comprising at least one gear shaft (1, 2) rotatably supported by a gear support construction and having at least one spline, and at least one gear wheel (21, 22, 23, 24) rotatably arranged on the gear shaft (1, 2), a first clutch member (50) being attached to the gear wheel (21, 22, 23, 24) and rotatably arranged on the gear shaft (1, 2) and a second clutch member comprising a driving ring (41, 42) being fixed against rotation about and slidably arranged on the gear shaft (1, 2) and comprising a guide member (45) and at least one claw clutch (46, 47) for selectively engaging or disengaging with the first clutch member (50) and thereby engaging or disengaging the gear wheel (21, 22, 23, 24) from rotating along with the gear shaft and where an axial cam (10) arranged on a gear shifter axle (11) being mounted in the gear support construction and having an axis of symmetry extending parallel with the gear shaft (1, 2), so that the guide member (45) on the axially slidable driving ring (41, 42) engages with the axial cam (10).
tl;dr
Selling models that infringe this patent isn't a good idea. The CaDA Master sets can't be sold anymore. Shops aren't willing to take the risk and it's close to impossible to find certain sets.

I've been looking at some 32x32 city baseplates and for some reason every chink plate I see, the normal plate is 25,5cm and the road plate is 25,6cm. Is that an oversight on all the stores or are chink roads bigger? how bad would that look side by side on a grid?
>>
>>9438918
They should all be 255 mm - 32x8 mm with 0.5 mm "give" on each side. But even if they for some weird reason aren't, they should still fit fine, just without the 1 mm gap that's typical of Lego baseplates. In worst case, sand down the sides slightly.
>>
>>9438924
thanks, gonna buy it anyway and see how it goes, my grid is 6x10 - 32x32 plates, maybe at the very end I will start to have some problems, in any case a bit of sand paper will fix it like you said

Has anybody here heard of an online store called capes4minifigs? I was looking to get a bionicle Vezon set recently and his cape rises up the price considerably, but I found that these guys make reproductions for like $5 each and ship worldwide.
They say they're made of 100% polyester, and from a youtube video I found (it's one of the first results when you look them up) it seems to be very close to the original fabric.
Does anyone here have experience with them? I'm heavily considering going for it.

It has a few connections with Technic parts where you need skill and/or a good grip, so 8+ sounds about right.

It also has nice printed parts, even over multiple pieces (top row, consisting of two Lego11153 parts in the middle and a 5x10 half-round slope I don't recognise at the top and bottom) and round ones (the Lego-86500 parts in the bottom row).

Two complaints; first, the tracks are tight and don't roll very smoothly, but that's a minor gripe. My bigger issue is with the gun mantlet. They should have used a new part or built something up with bricks, as the rounded piece they used looks quite wrong on this model of Sherman. There's also a pretty large gap behind the mantlet, which again may have been addressed if they built the mantlet up with bricks instead of that single mantlet piece.

Still, overall a neat model and a fun build!
>>
>>9460032
Even if the movie is shit, the extra stuff attached to the tank adds alot to its look.

I think they did a great job with the running gear too. Compared with the regular M4 next to it its absolutely clear what version of Sherman this is.

Cobi has probably better brick quality than Lego because all their stuff is made in Poland.

Oh, fun. A rebranded QMAN 1729 "Air raid heavy armored tank".

Anyway, against Qman/Enlighten/Keeppley ... they could, but they want. I mean, it would require just to make less profit, stop pretending to not release war-themed sets (*cough* Star Wars *cough*), listen to the existing customer base's wishes, and release a whole range of useful SNOT parts for creative build techniques.

So essentially unpossible.

Pretty sure Dragon Blok is a general distributor of Chinese legos brands in Canada, they also do Wange sets and others.

Yeah everything you said, plus stop pandering to the woke tards, fire everybody who was involved in vidiyo (preferably into the sun), stop trying to bully other plastic building block brands and distributors and instead compete with them directly at the product level... And while we're dreaming, perform public penance for their many, many sins.

I have loads of that military series by Qman, and the minifigs are just adorable.
The builds are quite good too.

Sadly the price increase for chinese block sets is really noticeable here, so i did not buy anything recently.
If i would see that tank for that price on sale, it would be an instant buy.

No idea really, just know that Lego won a major legal battle in China and now most stores on AliExpress still selling minifigs go to great lengths to conceal the full nature of such wares, while the bigger Chinese brands have transitioned into their own minifig designs. Seen some experimentation along the way, though these are more like Legofied Playmobil figs really.

the point of contention isn't patent. lego asserts the shape of their minifigure constitutes a 3-D trademark, which has no expiration for as long they exist. this argument has been upheld by courts internationally.

>>
>>9480898
A few years, I guess. I could get most of the 2018 "High-Tech Era" sets - though not all of them - this year at the usual Chinese prices, so those had a good production run too. I'd imagine a wildly popular license like Naruto will get an even better one.

Qman already produces lots of sets for two big markets - Chinese and Russian. They don't seem to believe in artificial scarcity, especially not now that they try to expand into the EU.

There's still plenty of normal military minifigs around, the bigger fallout from the legal battle was a crackdown on exact copies of existing Lego sets, which has only taken a couple of the largest players out of the game really. Sure, Enlighten/Qman has gone the safe route with their retarded chibi figs but the sets are solid and one can always source figs elsewhere. Anyone know if QuanGuan will stay the course, would love to see them expand beyond WW2.

https://www.lego.com/en-us/aboutus/news/2020/january/lepin-case/
The outcome was decided January of last year:
https://www.lexology.com/library/detail.aspx?g=b5885af2-96d3-41f9-b7c4-1ec17781524d
As noted earlier in the thread, some brands have taken measures to differentiate themselves enough from Lego by changing their minifig designs, while others have simply gone semi-underground by concealing the full nature of their products. It's unclear whether Lego has been able to enforce its claim to ownership of the minifigure design; the case in question seems to be about direct copies of specific minifigs, among other things.

Lego making any kind of headway in China is relatively recent in general, one can expect the fallout to drag out for years since the Chinese aren't known for giving a shit about intellectual property when there's money to be made. Lego seem to get this too and have been focusing more on waging unfair economic warfare on western distributors of these brands; there was scandal in Germany earlier this year when they threw their weight around to get some guy's shipment impounded, haven't heard how that's been going but there was a fair amount of backlash against them for such a blatant dick move.
>>
>>9487530
unless lego strong arm something like ali and other stores it won't matter much, chinese will keep selling the copies and people will still buy them, fuck lego
>>
>>9487459
>Anyone know if QuanGuan will stay the course
I think so, because even BlueBrixx who used to take out the minifigs from the sets before shipping them, now sell QuanGuan minifigs on the website. Last couple of sembo sets i've gotten from them came with minifigs too
>>
>>9490658
Bluebrixx seems to have some kind of deal with Lego, otherwise i can not think of any reason for this.

In the past, they put up videos on youtube, about the penalties they had to pay to lego, because some of their sets included minifigs, but out of the sudden they go full on yolo and sell direct copies? Very strange.
>>
>>9492038
eh i think its more like a fuck you to lego, legos recent action have Given them some really bad puplicity and unlike the previous cases bluebrixx isnt a small company run by one guy. their sister company had a landmark case with model cars and licensing, so they have the csh to fight back.

They are not small, and they fight back, but they lost a couple of lawsuits against Lego already and if you look at their western sets in collaboration with xingbao (pic related for example), they clearly choose to play save with those... (i.e. ugly new minifig designs).

And out of the sudden they stock Sembo and QuanGuan figures and sets including them.

Its strange.

Got that one at Crappy Tire incidentally, half-price so only 30 maplebucks but overall was fairly meh, wrote pic related up a couple years back. I have had a much better naval experience more recently: a modern destroyer that's also a DragonBlok set that was originally by Wange, also found at Crappy Tire. The clutch was much improved as was the quality of the parts. Ended up buying two as the first one I got suffered a bit of a fall and I haven't been able to find a couple of the pieces since, plus they were only $21 apiece. This set:

Thanks, but not into standard 4 wide. I like Tiny Turbo 4 wide, so smaller than minifigs. That makes the LOZ mini bricks interesting, because it gives me more room to play. That teal taxi for example is 4 mini studs wide, but 3 regular studs. This also provides more variety in wheel size. Gotta stick to one system or the other tho, as regular and mini bricks are in no way compatible.
