About six weeks ago, I placed an order through Lego's phone support, as I sometimes do. The main focus of the order was getting some of the new elephants, so at the beginning of the call I asked the rep to confirm that the elephants were available for purchase. After the order was placed, I got a follow-up email telling me that the elephants were NOT available and had been removed from my order, along with several other parts that were flagged as licensed or otherwise not available for direct purchase.

Now here's where things get interesting. When I received this truncated order, I saw that while I couldn't order the elephant bodies or heads, Lego DID send me three elephant trunks (along with the baby elephant I ordered). I called Lego again and asked them since they had already sold me the trunks, would it be possible to sell me the elephants the trunks go with. Long story short, the rep said they would be sending me the three elephants I had originally ordered for free.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE.

Not only did they send me the three elephants for free, but they also amended to order to include ALL of the parts that had previously been flagged as not-for-sale, so those pieces were all sent along at no charge.

However, the 10 towball w/bar pieces that I ordered were on the invoice but not included in the first shipment so I will have to call them back and get those. Anyway, overall very great service.
>>
>>9369173
lego should just sell evey part currently in sets, licensed included, they are already producing them and it will fuck over scalpers, plus they can just price it so it would always be more expensive to part out a set than it would to buy the set to stop people buying it under retail
>>
>>9369205
According to what I understand from the follow-up call, some high-value pieces (like the elephants) that are likely to get scalped are flagged as not-for-sale to make sure there are some in stock if people who actually need replacements call to complain.

I assume their contracts with license-holders prevents them from selling the individual pieces.

Recently bought the white / blue spanish armada boat hulls and was sad to find they were yellowed on one side

Rather than complain / get a refund it finally convinced me to try out hydrogen peroxide to restore discolored parts

Idk why it surprised me so much as I knew it works, but even after just a few hours everything is significantly better. The worst of the castle walls used to basically be dark tan. The boat hulls are basically already pure white.

I think I won't mind buying discounted yellowed parts in the future. I have some yucky monorail parts to try out next.

Also, the weighted boat / train bricks came in clutch to keep everything submerged. I am very happy with how well its going.

>I think I won't mind buying discounted yellowed parts in the future.
this is what I do. I buy the stuff that is yellowed and cheap, then I restore it to like-new condition. retarded BL sellers could be doing the same thing and be selling for double or more.
>>9369273
buy a mesh lingerie/washing bag and put all pieces except ones with stickers into the bag and wash in your washing machine with some kind of oxiclean like product (the powder works best for me) and a lil bit of detergent. then put that bag into your dryer with some already dry towels (to catch any moisture and makes it quieter than the lego being tossed around alone) run it for about 30 minutes with no heat. they'll come out clean like-new 99% of the time.
>>
>>9369273
I've had decent luck just soaking bricks in soapy water and drying with a salad spinner.

I washed these beforehand as I think any muck / grime would decrease the surface area.

I've also dishwashed parts in a laundry bag with moderate success. Sometimes it scours / dulls the part though, and the heat drying cycle can melt stuff, so use caution. I've had dark blue / red parts get the dye destroyed (it becomes a disgusting cum color)

I use a toothbrush to scrub some bits, and a makeup brush if its just a thin dusting from display

The problem with this restoration method is that the yellowing will come back at full force. A lot of people experimented with that already, it's not worth it. But it would be nice if you could come back and tell us your experience.

I've read that "sunbright" is more effective but I'm not sure if the yellow comes back or not.

The main problem, from what I read, is that the polymers are "opened" so they'll oxidize again.

You are almost certainly right they will yellow faster from what I know / heard

But the good news is they couldn't be any worse than they were - I really should have taken before pictures of the light grey castle walls, they were truly a horrible dark tanned yellow, and now they're pretty decent instead

I don't think I'll sell anything restored on BL without noting that it was once yellowed, full disclosure is a good thing

Best I can do is show another ~3 hours of progress now that the sun is going down. I periodically poked at everything to get the bubbles off. The castle panels are looking very acceptable now
>>
>>9369594
Hopefully our technology is compatible with his people's biology
>>
>>9369617
Yeah, they are looking great from the pictures. Specially because some of the pieces were only partially yellowed, it's better to have a completely yellow piece than a partially one. I think that this method would work great if you could, somehow, "close" the polymers. I was watching some videos and some people fix it by literally using a flamethrower. I think that it could restore the pieces colors but would also damage the print and warp the connections. I want to test it in the future. I was reasoning that maybe that's why the lightbrightinhg works, it's not the light but the slow heat. Sadly lightbrightinhg works up until a certain extend. It won't bring back to the original color back. I think that all that UV damage could make the plastic brittle though?

Huh. Lightbrighting seems like a pretty novel concept, I'll have to experiment if it works on lego pieces. It's hard to believe but the second vid you linked is quite convincing.

I've found a few suitable sacrifices for the sun to see if it works, I'll have to plop them out next time I do some other parts. I've already considered these to be junk so they're perfect candidates.
>>
>>9369728
I don't want to test on the ones I have. It was something I was planning to do in the future by gathering like a hundred of them and go out testing stuff and then make notations on how they'll yellow again in multiple conditions. So that's a lot of planning, but so much work, I think. I was thinking about making a "slow heat" test, "slow heat test inside water", "heat with sun", "heat with sun and UV layered protection" and so on. Since you are doing it and you want to sacrifice them, maybe you could use a black tape in a small section of it so you'll have a "control" area to compare to?

I was looking for more information about it, since it has been some time I was looking for answers to restore the plastic.

Apparently Retrobrighing/Peroxide does not cause the plastic to become brittle, it was probably brittle before. It virtually does very little damage and is pretty much immeasurable if you do it once..

Sun/lightbrighting has the same bleaching effect as using peroxide. They are the same process, basically. But the sun will probably damage more because of all the UV.

The plastic won't reyellow again very fast if you use a UV protectant. Every plastic is protected against UV, so I think it disintegrates with time or is removed in the washing/bleaching process. So you need to protect it again.

UV is not part of the process, but light and heat are because of energy transfer, so I guess it's better to use heat than use light to do it because the UV damages the plastic itself.

I could have got something wrong because I'm accelerating and I'm sleep, but that's very interesting. The full video is here, it's long but pretty cool, the guy made a bunch of tests: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPl356YKcVs

So after the bleaching process you should use an UV protectant so it won't oxide (yellow) and give the plastic an UV protection, because it's very possible it was removed throughout the years. It was very cool to learn that someone went through all this work, personally I think it's safe to bleach the plastic as long you don't overdo it, do it in a controlled process and UV protect in the end.

I also believe brittleness is inherent prior to any external inputs. I don't know the chemical mechanics, but the dark red / reddish browns and whatnot have always caused trouble. The dyes are hard to perfect, and it still plagues lego's plastic to this day.

I don't know why older parts are more structurally sound, I am not an organic chemist, but they certainly feel indestructible compared to their current plastics.

It looks like either the hydrogen peroxide soak or the vehicle headlight polish is the best bang for your buck or time investment. I have nothing to lose on testing yellowed parts, so I'm happy to try it out.

Thanks for the good info anons, I appreciate the input

Hey guys, is there a forum or something where people share paid instructions from rebrickable and such? I assume those are just .pdf's, so it should be easily doable.

Spending 20+ euro on this stuff is just not something I can rationalize living in a shithole, buying LEGO itself hurts as is.
>>
>>9370786
There are no question blocks in Mario 64.
>>
>>9370786
Because the levels hidden inside it are all SM64 levels.

>>9370823
Don't forget the ! blocks in SM64 also have a completely different design. The set really is just a bunch of crap thrown together without any thought.
>>
>>9370814
You need instructions for simple builds like this?
>>
>>9370814
just make mocs
>>
>>9370814
Most of the stuff on rebrickable are pretty easy to duplicate. But I'll admit, the o ly reason I can do it is because I have a ton of experience with my own MOCs and building techniques.

Not sure if there's a website with free rebrickable instructions though. I'm sure the MOC creators would be pretty pissed and shut the site down if they ever found out about it. Some of the rebrickable creators actually do post free tutorials for their builds on YouTube though.

>>
>>9370786
My best guess is that they went with the ?-block due to its iconic nature and the 64 levels are also iconic but also simple enough to be built at that scale.
And since no one from the target audience gives a fuck and just went "ZOMG! MUH CHILDHOOD!", neither did the designers.
>>
>>9370948
I don't want to do that thing :(
>>
>>9370621
Well good luck. I personally don't see the appeal of the set but if you enjoy it then it was money well spent.

>>9370786
Nostalga for one thing. Anyone who grew up playing Mario 64 would have a strong emotional attachment to it. Plus the worlds being fully 3D and well known to the fans makes it easier to catch a few angles and set off memories in the fans. This game basically set the foundation for all future 3D Mario titles. I mean Peach's castle exterior has been almost unchanged since this game came out.

I don't like clay and paint used on figures. Those don't really look like Lego figures at that point.

The best customs are made by shops that can actually pad print and injection mold their own parts. Citizen Brick is the only shop I know that actually recycles Lego pieces down into new molds and pad prints every piece like Lego would.

So like is the implication here (based on that one War Machine with the open visor) that Tony puts mannequins into each suit for display purposes or does he just hire a black guy to wear it all day every day?
>>
>>9372640
It is an egregiously beautiful minifigure. Worth tracking down if you can muster the cash or goods to trade. For a theme which often is painfully under-printed in detail, the Centurion is a rare 11/10.

Also a typo in the suit key, Scuba is last suit on the 4th floor, apologies.
>>
>>9371560
>a white field and a big grey door
>a snowy field and a medium-sized gray door
>>
>>9372653

They have yet to make a standalone Rhodey out of his suit. As soon as that happens, I'll have him chilling somewhere around with Pepper. Until then, there's nowhere to put him but in a suit itself, so he's in the Mark IV, which is the most detailed of them so far. I suppose I should get Peter and Happy in here too, maybe some other Stark flunkies.

As to the mannequin question, all other suits in the Hall have blank or translucent heads swapped in for the original Tony to maintain peak immersion.
>>
>>9372629
Why would Tony keep symbiote-infected suits in his Hall of Armors seemingly uninhibited
>>
>>9372646
>>9372647
The duality of man. I appreciate both takes.

>>9372685
The 1st floor is admittedly pretty absurd, and if I were to incorporate the Hall into a more MCU-specific larger display, the 1st floor is allocated with only non-MCU suits so it can be easily detached. But as a standalone display, I find it more fun to have everything but the kitchen sink in there.

>>
>>9372731
That's a fun idea! Right now with the rate that new Stark suits come out, I have refrained from slot-specific customization because the Hall has expanded half a dozen times or more now to accommodate new releases. Now that LEGO is doing Infinity Saga content, more canonical Iron Man and War Machine suits are very plausible. The last major Stark suit that's missing is Mark IV, which doesn't see too much action but still is active for the bulk of Iron Man 2. There are also 2 missing War Machine suits - the one he wears for the majority of Endgame and then the Iron Patriot Mark II that he dons in the final battle, and both I could easily see LEGO producing. Additionally, the non-MCU suits can expand at an unpredictable rate - I never anticipated even one Iron Venom, let alone 2 variants of him. We already know that January 2022 will see a new Iron Man $10 mech with the suit inside as-yet TBD, so I basically keep the hall as modular as possible as LEGO's production of Stark content ebbs and flows.

I tried to make a Vidiyo yesterday and the app was even worse than I remember. It's the most anti-video thing I ever seen in my life, the app itself is actually programmed so that you can't screen record, and to download your own video it has to be reviewed by someone working at lego in real time.

This blew my mind because it only takes a few moments and seems to imply there is seriously someone at lego who's job it is to review all these retarded clips and deem if it's worthy to download.

Ended up just recording the fucking screen with another phone. It's aggravating as fuck, maybe have to experiment with remote play and recording off the desktop.

It's so fucked up, why would lego do this?

>>

Thanks. Ultron Mark I is an underrated Marvel fig. Just the right amount of detailing in a nice clean translation of the on-screen character without additional molds or fluff. It would be nice for them to revisit Ultron, particularly Ultron from the final Sokovia battle, as the ones they made for the sets are clearly sourced from concept art and don't quite capture the look of the character quite right. As long as they keep putting out Infinity Saga sets, anything's possible. There's a lot of other stuff I'd prefer they get to first, though - an Asgardian battlepack of some kind is sorely overdue.
>>
>>9372908

*Pirr*

That actually surprised me lego had the wherewithal to disable the stock iphone screen recorder. Never encountered that before.

Does anon have a Hidden Side set to test if they disable screen recording? Will they still be paying a guy several years later when these kits are long retired to review all the videos to see if they are appropriate for 7 year olds? Think they will just get rid of the apps altogether in a couple years?

I mean I guess, but you could say similar things about the 2d games. Hell 3 had levels that look like a kid's toy box with the way the blocks in the background looked. (Plus 3 is basically a stage play, which almost fits when this set is meant to be a bunch of little stages based on the games)

Like I said, its very much a WIP still. The full thing is going to be just Olive with Black and Pearl Gold detailing. The grey and lime are there to act as filler while I wait for Olive parts to arrive. The windows are just black circle stickers I got from Amazon. I tried some brickbuilt solutions but between the limited parts availability in Olive and the rear wall only being 2 plates thick I didn't have many other options besides using stickers.

Here's what the CAD design looked like for the people who didn't see it last thread.

Also to the anon that mentioned that the garbage can was wrong in my CC in the last thread, Thank you! I've bought the right one and it's coming in the mail soon.
>>
>>9374695
not going to get any cheaper. if you want it ya might as well buy it. otherwise one of these autistic hoarders will eventually decide to buy every one of them, like the guy with a garage full of of castle/knight minifigs, or that asian hoarder kid from the last thread.

yep. lego is the same for most other 'collectible' type things. people like to drive prices up and make what they have worth more than what it is, or prevent other people from having them so it's more 'special/rare' or whatever.

I can appreciate the craftmanship but doing all of this to a lego figure just seems fucking pointless because it doesn't fit the aesthetic, looks like a megabloks figure that's short and fat

i feel like 90 percent of people these days, girl or not have some kind of issue, we're just more aware of it. that being said, this category of person either will treat you like shit or wont be able to function without you, it's a far gap

It might just be my autism but it's hard for me to handle Mega Construx stuff, it feels softer and less snappy when handling if that makes any sense.
That and the closest to car sets I'd get are HW themed ones that are basically a poor man's Speed Champions, and I don't like SC. Double fuck me.

I usually had pleasent experience since I only buy very specific rare stuff from small stores or very big lots from experienced bigname shops.

One or two instances where I got the wrong color of a piece like I ordered Metallic Silver but got Flat Silver, that is quite upsetting since Metallic colors are rarer and much more expensive, so I felt cheated, but I mostly only ordered 1 or 2 from them so there was no point in wasting the transaction fee on that difference...

Very nice. Are you going to put anything inside the building? I've been remodeling the interior of the Palace Cinema, since it looked rather empty and the actual cinema level could use some modernizing.

what is it about goats? were they only in 1 or 2 sets or sth?
>>
>>9375760
I thought about adding an arcade there, but it was too big and got in the way. Maybe I'll try later to build a slimmer model next to the door or something.
>>
>>9375788
Yes, two goats in only one set.
>>
>>9375788
1 set from 2011, and they 'lost' the mould for the goat and apparently it's so difficult and expensive to make it again that they can't do it, even though people want it.
>we know you want the goat, and we weally twied, we even went to the pwesident of wego and said pweeese, but he said no :(

What a load of horseshite, LEGO has virtually endless money - of course they could make a new mold if they wanted to.

Sorry anon, but *generic Star Wars background character 2056* needs that mould more than you do, gotta incentizise Star Wars consumer cucks to buy a figure they already own.

I haven't, but I found this. if he wants $75 I'd have to assume it cost less than that to get the pieces.

that's actually not bad. I mean it is, but not horrendous. shame postage would be a pain for me as I live in central Europe (captcha: NORTH)
>>
>>9376020
yeah shipping would get you. if you message the seller it's possible they'll break it down and pack it as small as possible to make shipping cheaper, it is only like ~350 pieces. might be worth to just message and ask for a quote, it might work out cheaper than parting it all out.
