Did anybody own that bootleg jumbo tracer figure that got made a while back? I was looking at my figma and wondering if I'd be better off buying that thing if I could stil get it. I have no idea how big it is and if it scales well with 12 inch stuff or if it's in that weird play arts kai scale.

Also overwatch thread, since we haven't had one in a long time for good reason.
>>
I'm so mad that blizzard fucked up Overwatch before we could get a decent Mei figure that wasn't a Nendoroid.
>>

blame that retard Jeff Kapalan, thankfully he's dead now, but it's probably too late for overwatch 2 to give us a comeback. It's a shame, because some of the designs are top tier.

Honestly the Overwatch Ultimates figures are really underrated I liked the Pharah and Mercy two pack I bought two of them one of them only cost me $10 nice metallic paint on that Pharah

I got the Zarya because she's never going to get a figma. She looks much better than I expected but the lack of hand options sucks. Can't really pose her doing anything but holding her gun.

I was genuinely stunned by the headsculpt. The rest of her is very Hasbro, and can't convey subtle poses as well as the figmas, but otherwise she fits right in. Sucks that both lines seem to be dead, really wanted a Brigitte

That actually does have me curious about what they did with these after they stopped using them. Blizzard probably has them stored away in a warehouse somewhere, if they didn't destroy them already.

I fucking hate Hasbro for not making a transforming Bastion. I missed the bootleg one and the after market prices are insane.

why is that really important?

Never played it and glad I didn’t since blizzard really dropped the ball and became really stupid. I did really did like some of the characters designs. Hasbro was dumb to never release normal D.Va but made her alt color part of a four pack with other recolors that was a GameStop exclusive if I remember. They were also dumb to start making the figures way after its popularity died.

Yes and they openly told us the millions those 5 minute ads and promos cost them. You are asking why they don't stretch that an extra 15 minutes x10. Comic you just have to pay a publisher who in turn 6 people. Meanwhile a full video is a minimum of 60 people when you factor in animators, actors, composers, sound designers, script writers, up to 4 different directors. It just becomes this massive money eating monster that even if successful it's just breaking your costs even.

Dude if Overwatch sold over 50 million copies( not including micro transactions), can pour millions into Esports no one watches. They can spend a million dollars an episode producing a 10 episode series.

They have both 2D and 3D cinematic animation staff and if not they could outsource to Powerhouse, Muir or anyone else.

There is no Castlevania game that even comes close to Overwatch's revenue, yet it has a long running series on Netflix. Not forgetting The Witcher, Dota, LoL, Sonic, Cyberpunk all having/getting series as well.

You have no idea what your talking about.
>>
File: 913.jpg (231 KB, 1280x1440)
231 KB

>>8986140

You want to know when they tried started trying to make a Castlevania cartoon/animated film? 2007 it has been suffering a development hell of decades because no one wanted to -wait for it- foot the budget and that was when they negotiate a deal with Netflix that has been in their words "a raw deal" which is a normal story for Netflix deals like The Witcher, Dota, LoL, Sonic, Cyberpunk. Even Hasbro has abandon a lot of their animated productions because they weren't seeing the profits worth taking such a high risk.
You say I have no idea what I'm talking about when you won't even try to understand what is happening behind the scenes. You just wanted a cartoon and you are mad daddy Blizzard wouldn't take the financial risk to make it.
>>
>>8986140
>can pour millions into Esports no one watches
That's more of the point why they shouldn't risk something as unstable as western animation projects, they lose money when these things go sideways. You brought up Castlevania which is more a passion project that demanded the creative teams to sell their souls(or at least their wallets) to Netflix. Understand that Blizzard just wants to makes money, they don't care about what would be "great", hell they don't even really care about you. Like anon noted there was a pioneer era in western animation where anything went, but after cases where the company barley made any new net profits in spite of pouring millions into it (Transformers Prime, GIjoe Resolute) to others where it crippled what could have been salvageable product (ReBoot, Pirates of Dark Water).
It's not as simple as throwing money at it, they need a sense of security on the project which they thought they had with esports but learned the hard way that wasn't the case, so really asking why they won't throw more money into something that likley won't bring new players is just stupid.
>>
>>8986119
well Fortnite is one of the most successful games on the market and they didn't even need to do the comics or gay fanfic, hell their toys only happen because companies agreed to their terms, Blizz I'm guessing wasn't getting any bitters, could have been from all those back to back video game toy flops of the 10s.
>>
>>8986179
>hell their toys only happen because companies agreed to their terms
I think that's the big thing. Overwatch would have gotten it's show if it actually stayed in the markets heart.

I mean The Witcher was books before it was a game, and it took three games with a decade across them to get a TV series that is leading to an animation project.

Dota is a 18 years old and LoL is past a decade, Sonic is well over 25 years old and that really just leaves Cyberpunk which looking at what we know of it might suffer what many of these shows have suffered and it might take a good decade to roll out.

Overwatch is just turning five and it's doing awful in the player base, if they rolled out a cartoon it would have just ate more already lost profits,
>>
>>8986150
>>8986166
Castlevania may seem like a one off due to development hell, but I don't see how it refutes my point. As long it has the spirit of the franchise it would do fine.Overwatch sold over 50 mil and had fans based on the shorts and online community who never played the game. It was so mainstream for like 3 years. It certainly would have had/gained the audience to support a show.

Transformers Prime, GI-joe Resolute are piss poor examples against my point. Hasbro kept throwing GI Joe out there to die as it isn't relevant to anyone who didn't grow up with the original. And animated Transformers were completely redundant due to the massively successful movies. Its why Marvel closed down Marvel animation, kids already bought into the MCU, so doing cartoons with cartoon merch made zero sense.

Beside that its not just throwing money at something, they have comics, shorts, novels, short stories and an audience who was invested in the lore of a singular canon. All of that development could easily be structured into a show to gain a wider audience beyond the game.

https://www.whats-on-netflix.com/news/what-happened-to-overwatch-and-diablo-netflix-series/

Clearly Blizzard was working on a series and it seems like talks have cooled off or have been delayed, so don't act like it was never a possibility when they clearly intended it. Tracer appearing in Ready Player One, and Blizzard starting a movie division are coincidental.

Try closer to $15 million. That's how much a single 11 minute episode of Adventure time cost averaged out. The Teen Titans Go Movie? 10 million. Think about how cheaply that looks and it cost them ten million just to make 84 minutes of that janky shit. So really we might need to shoot closer to 25 million an episode if you want to actually stomach the visuals and voice acting.

>but I don't see how it refutes my point.
A project that took 10+ years and trade hands to the point that it had to not make a profit to be rolled out is a pretty strong case why Blizzard didn't want to gamble more funds on something that has no clear line for increasing profits.
> Hasbro kept throwing GI Joe out there to die as it isn't relevant to anyone who didn't grow up with the original. Overwatch was just a new IP in 20126 with no clear indicators it was going to be a staying hit or a flash in the pan, they are perfect examples to this.
>And animated Transformers were completely redundant due to the massively successful movies
And a Overwatch animation is completely redundant to the game, you just destroyed yourself trying to rationalize away the points you don't like, because if you look at the TV show and go "well the movies bring the real profit why have both" then something like a Video game which generates even more profit and has never had a clear correlation to animated shows generating more profits why risk it?

>so don't act like it was never a possibility when they clearly intended it.
and here you move the goal post, away from your original talking point, you ask why they didn't, you never ask if they ever would
>>

No its not you fucktards, one is a passive experience and one is an active experience. By that logic Sony wouldn't make Last of Us TV show. They make passive experiences to gain fans who wouldn't play the game. A cartoon along side a movie is redundant a video game is not.

Man you're copium is off the charts, the experience in this case is is pointless, both consume ones time in the same way, one a screen and the issue is 25 million dollars for a half hour taken away they could just be playing the game is a solid risk, meanwhile until the last two years a movie required you to go to a special setting with the goal of socializing compared to a tv show which was in the comfort of your own home.

>A cartoon along side a movie is redundant a video game is not.
it is if all you care about is money on that one screen they are on

>Let me restate
Why not just be honest with yourself: like anon said you are just whiny they didn't do what you wanted and now are just doing mental gymnastics to justify why they should have done your very specific thing when we have had countless more failures with video game animated properties than we have had success.

>How did they not get the show off the ground, when marketing/merchandise were in full blitz
And now you are just clowning yourself, that is still the same answer given, it's a huge risk of just wasting money with no clear indicator it improves profits.

>They make passive experiences to gain fans who wouldn't play the game.
Then why is it only the most hyper successful games in history get good lasting cartoons? No one puts risks on new IPs, almost like they know people watching a show don’t just become interested in games.
>>
>>8986930
we have had countless more failures with video game anything than success. Toy lines, movies, comics, etc. For everyone one that sells well enough you have a sea of failures and even the largest brands like Mario, Halo, and Minecraft trickle out content because it turns out the masses that play the games don't always consume the merc and the outsider are obviously not consuming either. Sometimes spreading out into multiple projects is just ensuring more money is lost than made, like consider if OW still slumped like it did after 2 years, all those millions into a (likley) shitty TV show would have just accelerated the death of the brand.
>>
here's something else anon is not thinking:
what if your show hurts your brand? What if it just sours people from considering your product? This isn't just tossing the cash at it and it's going to work. It could hurt the brand which has happen in times past where a bad comic, film or show directly cuts into all the merc made around it. a company is having to look at the millions/billions they have spent making this game and ask if spending hundreds of millions more on something that could just as likley increase the risk of lost sales as increase really puts the perspective why most games that get major animation deals are brands that have been around for decades
