Got a couple of RG kits in the mail and I noticed that they both don't have the RG style black inner box and just use the regular plain inner box like HGs and MGs. It doesn't matter to me, but I did find it interesting. Did anyone else get an RG without the black inner box? Is this a recent thing? Is Bandai phasing them out to save money?

I have something that has pegs that are too thick to fit into the holes. What's the best way to resize them so that they can fit together? I can resize the peg hole, or I can reside the peg itself, but I'm not sure how to sand it evenly all around the peg.
>>8908566assuming there's gonna be some rotation around the peg so don't cut but slowly scrape off material with a blade while testfitting until satisfied.a small strip of sandpaper works as well but make sure you don't end up doing pic related which will make the pieces want to separate during movement.how big is the hole and how big is the peg? if it's like something going from 3mm to 2mm I'd just make a new peg with some brass.
>>8908351A loupe. One with a good ring light is better than any single bulb but cost a bit more. >>8908566Easier to widen a hole than to sand the pegs. Plus thinning the peg will make it more fragile.
>>8908600Yeah, that first pic is exactly what I'm trying to prevent. The pegs should be 5 and 3 mm, but they're just a bit too big for their holes. Maybe half a millimeter. The thing I'm working on is some KO Action Stands I bought to try out. I wouldn't buy them again but they'll be fine once I refit the pieces. >>8908611I think the plastic might be too think where the pegs fit though.
>>8908618yeah if it's just a really small difference you can just shave off little by little(or use a sandpaper strip around the piece) until it fits snuggly, I like keeping the outer part of my peg the thickest part too.

How do you guys pick out specific colors/shades when painting?Like, not custom paintjobs, but finding paints that specifically match a mobile suit's "canon" colors (for kits that aren't the most accurate with colors outta the box, or maybe if you wanted to paint a mobile suit in the colors of another mobile suit, or if you really like making Char custom versions of suits, etc)? Are there resources for this online, possibly?
>>8910572the manual
>>8910604Huh? The manual would have anime-accurate colors but the pieces themselves would be off? That doesn't make sense, doesn't the manual just tell you the exact colors of the plastic actually used, not "here's what they should actually be lole"?
>>8910665>doesn't the manual just tell you the exact colors of the plastic actually usedIt tells you the colors of paint you should be using if you decide to paint. They rarely match the plastic exactly.

>>8910717we dont talk about evas and scale, theirs a reason almost all modern eva kits, bandai and koto dont have a scale. the rg evas are MG size if thats what you mean

So my friend was telling me that vallejo mecha color is basically just their regular paint with a drop or two of their varnish added in which is what makes it slightly more scratch resistant than normal vallejo. Is their any truth to this?

>>8910927>as low as 40mI'm pretty sure it could go even smaller. For this scene to make sense, EVAs shouldn't be over 20m.
Any onlines stores with discounts at the moment? wanted to pickup an RG or even MG, but the shipping prices are not fun (PR).>>8908771>bought an Airfix starter set from a store called Internet Hobbies>turned out to be a scam>never got the kit
>>8910899>>8910902I know they're not in scale, when i said "scale" I just meant "look about right standing next to other figures within the same grade" (ie, the RG Evas are technically too small for 1/144, but since they tower over other 1/144 figures still anyway, it still looks okay). The RG Evas are the same height as a standard MG though, which's why I'm longing for bigger "MG-ish" sized Evas, as the PG Unit-01 is really kinda shit, and I mostly collect 1/100 models since I'm a filthy normalfag who doesn't care quite too much about the more obscure grunt mobile suits.
>>8912199You can argue it's just visual metaphor, but then again who fucking knows. Every height is canon depending on the scene.

Maintaining my status as retard though, when it says "80% navy blue" etc, what exactly is it referring to? Like, is it talking about a specific paint brand's definitions of said colors? Or are there (doubtedly) certain, like, "universal standards" that all paint brands stick to when talking about these colors? Because surely a "navy blue" from one brand isnt going to be exactly the same as "navy blue" from another brand, right?
>>8913249for bandai its usually mr hobby paint
>>8913257Ah, gotcha. Are there any resources online that like, colormatch paints from different brands? (Like, giving the closest approximation to a certain brand's color from other brands' offerings?)
>>8913295I got you, anon.http://www.mech9.com/2016/07/paint-color-equivalents.htmlIt won't be the same 1:1 but it should be fairly good if you try to aim for a specific color.

These AnchoreT paints just went up for sale on USAGundamStore today. I ordered a few on FOMO because they were selling quickly. Anybody try them out?
>>8913308Ayy thanks anon! Much appreciated, man!>>8913313Ah yea I'm aware lol, but I still wanna try to get at least "as close" as I can to an approximation of the normal color; at least giving myself a frame of reference so I don't have to worry about being extremely off and relying only on eyeballing what it will look like.
I have an MG kit that accepts LEDs for the head, but the thing is that the model's eyes are supposed to be yellow while the front forehead camera (which also gets lit up) is meant to be red. I have a yellow LED and it works fine for the eyes, but the yellow forehead light triggers me.If i were to paint the clear plastic their respective colors (with ink that still allows light to shine through, like a marker or something), and used a white gundam LED instead, would it work or would it look like butt?

>>8920647Thank you so much anon! I've been working on another 4+ kits since that one. I will post them here if I have the time
Thoughts about MG Providence gundam? Especially in the long run? I'm kinda worried about torso and arms getting loose (because of large and heavy weapons and backpack) and hip joints (which are the same as freedom 2.0 which are prone to breaking as far as I know).
>>8921510It comes with an included base, much like the one that comes with MG Strike Rouge Ootori, right? If so, it might just be best to leave it on the included stand.
>>8921066crossbone full-cloth is based and kino though
>>8913058Graze.
>>8921510Same thing I told you in the /m/ thread anon, its great, just get it. You will not be dissapointed. Like>>8921704said, it has a base but your better with buying a regular action base
>>8913058Maganac and Ball
>>8921510I like how beefy it looks but that thing on its back is kinda retarded.
>>8921510its a great kit but you REALLY will want the extra set with the effect parts for the dragoon things
>>8921510>Thoughts about MG Providence gundam? It's SEEDshit lol.
>>8921510its kinda ok for a final boss Gundam, but I like Legend better, hope that the MG will not have super greebles so it can pair with MG Destiny better

>>8921177>>8914380I have both and my only regret is not building them sooner. Shoulder attachment is a little bit iffy on the RG but besides that, mechanically its an amazing kit.
>>8915457>Still no EWAC besides the terrible ancient HGIt hurts to live
>>8918329I like it, I would do the chest trim in white including insignia, then do the main chest panel red to emulate the grey -> white stripe -> red motif You could also only to the 'top facing' panels in orange to really capture the nature of the deck colour.
>>8921066build more Zaku and zeon kits dude, Gundams are mostly skinny incel beta robots
Are these water based? Only gloss I have access to at the moment and don't want gundam marker to accidentally run.
>>8923338what method did you use for the camo exactly?
>>8907813I just ordered this glass file, are they as good as people say?
>>8923519depends on what you use it for, I guess they'd be nice if you need to make some sharp edges but I don't see why you wouldn't just use these things instead which are nicer and gives you more control in my experience.
>>8920139>>8920726my 2020 as well
>>8923538I don't know why but sanding sponge in my country are freaking expensive, 1 pack of 600 - 1000 grit cost $30, so fuck it
>>8923542Well anon, congratulations. You have the most beautiful Zeta on this gay ass planet and nothing can convince me otherwise
>>8923542>>8923584I'm still amazed they fixed up a broken RG Zeta of all things even if it can't transform anymore
>>8923584thanks man such praise means a lot to me. I fucked some things up with it and it didn't come out the way I expected it to but still really happy about it.I'm just gonna completely disagree with you though https://youtu.be/kdViSzVCr1Y?t=1093
>>8923550not sanding sponges, these things are rigid so you get more control when working with edges and flat surfaces.pretty sure you can just make some yourself with adhesive sandpaper on something flat.I use these myself
>>8921796Oh naw small kits are based dude, I didn't mean to imply that I didn't like em; just that I find it funny how, no matter what, even if I know exactly how tall the figure is gonna be, the several-times-bigger box subconsciously hypes me up, every time, and I get a teensy bit of disappointment seeing the giant box tower over the completed figure, every time.>>8923365Zakus are based but I was strictly talking height; Zeon kits are bulkier but EFSF suits are typically taller (not usually though obv), and besides, is not really what I was referring to anyways lol
>>8923603That's the MG 2.0
>>8923682Isn't this is sanding sponge? what was you talking about?>>8923538
>>8923840No.
I've bought pre-built HG kit that's probably 6-7 years old and all of its polycaps got so weak that limbs flap around completely freely, like those of marionette or a ragdoll. I was thinking of restoring it by covering polycaps with paint, but how long will it last? I was thinking about seamwelding parts and painting the kit, but if it'll get this loose again that'll be a disaster with seamwelded parts.
>>8923542Normally changing a suit's main color to black comes off as overly edgy but you did a tasteful job of it. Good shit.
>>8913058hyaku shiki always took to char color schemes really well imho
Have you preordered your cute spider yet?
>>8923542THERE IT IS was just talking about this Alex the other day. Easily one of my favorite Alex builds yet. Keep on keeping on, lad.
>>8923987You can use a little bit white glue to tighten polycaps. I've also used acrylic gloss as well (like Future Floor Finish).
>>8923387airbrush and masking
>>8907813Fuck why is it so hard, bros? I can't paint fine details no matter how hard I try. I have paint, Gundam markers, tiny brushes for mini painting, toothpicks, even fucking sewing needles, but no matter what I do I can't paint shit like 1/144 vulcans or the faces on Hexa Gear Governors. They're just too fucking small, I don't get it.
>>8925161
>>8925173I've already tried a more traditional table magnifyer+lamp but it doesn't help much. My hands just aren't steady enough and none of the tools ever seem to be small enough to avoid spilling excess around the part I'm trying to paint.
>>8920479man, were you that guy who asked for ideas for a custom color for his gm unit? looks kinda like the lineart he posted. Was years ago though.
>>8925193
>>8925207I wish.
Still new to model kits, all I've done so far are some Super Minipla megazords.I'm trying to get the Amplified Machinedramon, has it not been released stateside yet? Any recommendations on where best to get it?

>>8925298I ship to Canada and the fees are low
Between the regular MG Unicorn and the HD, how different are the color of the guns? I was thinking about getting the Full Armor and HD, and just slapping all the FA gear onto the HD.
>>8907813QuestionWhy do they add extra parts on runners that wont even belong to the kit?
>>8925405Runners get reused between kits
Yall. Whats the best band of bulk NailfileBuffersticks?NailfileBufferstick grits dont line up with sandpaper gritels right?
>>8925426If you can find them the God Hand sanding products are all fucking excellent.
don't you just love wasting away entire hours placing all those decals of the ver ka kits? I sure fucking don't but they really make the thing look nicethat aside, I'm really liking how sharp this version of the WZC looks so far. I had the old MG and while it is decent, this one really blows it away
>>8925594Lol, it shares like 10 of them with Tallgeese
>>8925202Nah, not me. I didn't start painting until last year.
>>8925193Masking tape. Or better masking liqiud.
>>8925501Thanks ,ill look into that, But i was kinda hoping for like.. 100 packs.
>>8925723Eh unless you're sanding the world you can probably buy three or four multi grit packs and be good to go. The GH sanding sponge thingies are holding up really well for me.
>>8925405It's cheaper to give people extra plastic than it is to tool a new mould
>>8907813Whats the cheapest way to paint the miniature RG pilots? Do I really need to buy all those paints just for them?
Am I dumb? Where could one get good beam rifle effect parts for 1/100 kits? I'm just getting into the hobby and I only ever see transparent yellow and white 1/100 effect parts anywhere, which is good for standard rifles/blasters, explosions, and possibly jets, but I can't find pink or blue anywhere. Do they even exist?
>>8926050transparent clear = DIY any color you choose
>>8925662How the hell do I do that for shit like white trim on the Zudah?
>>8926155Forgot pic.
>>8926155start with painting the areas white and put 0.2mm masking tape where you want the lines to be, then paint model as usual.
>>8926161>>8926155wait not 0.2mm I'm retarded, go with something bigger like maybe 0.5mm
>>8926161I know you're joking but it's gotta be doable if Dalong can do it without massive paintjobs and topcoats.
>>8926170not joking, that's how you do tiny thin stripes with paint.there's also waterslides that are just stripes of various thicknesses.
>>8926173Meticulously getting the masking tape to the size and shape of the Zudah's trim and then painting the entire kit is way, way more work than just masking the area around the trim.I mean like I said Dalong managed to do it without painting the whole kit.
The lines were already there. He just did a panel wash with white paint essentially.
>>8926179>Meticulously getting the masking tape to the size and shapethey sell rolls of masking tape at various thicknesses.
>>8926187oh that is really clever of bandai actually
>>8926044By not painting
>>8926187How does he remove the excess paint afterwards without removing from the lines themselves? I usually use rubbing alcohol to clean up panel lining screwups and the like but obviously that'll wipe away the trim as well.Guess I'll go find the part of the review where he talks about it and see if autotranslate makes it coherent enough.>>8926189I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding something here.
>>8926213>I think you're fundamentally misunderstanding something here.nah I get that you just cannot do it without painting the kit beforehand but I just wanted to mention it.>How does he remove the excess paint afterwards without removing from the lines themselves?I looked a bit at the parts and I think that's indentations like usual panel lines so you can just clean it up as you usually clean up pin washes without any issue.
>>8926226I'm not used to painting so I don't even know anything about washes or the usual cleanup.Like I said I tend to just rub away with my finger or clean with alcohol but I don't know if that's possible without messing up the trim unless they make a fine-tip white GM but afaik they only make black/brown/grey.
>>8926233ohhh, it's just the same technique as cleaning up panel lines.if you can get some white paint down there in the panel lines you can easily wipe off the excess paint around it with some cotton swabs and the appropriate thinner/solvent, pretty obvious to me now that that's what dalong did.
If you live near a Target that stocks kits, check their shelves. Picked up an X-Wing kit on clearance for 50% off (about $16).
>>8926233Fuck the panel markers. Overpriced sharpies with shitty tips. >>8926233>take white acrylic paint>thin it with the proper thinner to where it is wattery>fill lines in using a brush>should fill panel lines withiut much difficult >let dry 5 to 10 minutes>start cleanup process>reapply paint to fill until proper saturation is acheivedApparently you can not do that on a painted kit but if that zudah is what you're going for it will work.
Am I really the only one that uses .03 copic pens to do panel lines?
>>8926621yea just you
>>8926314>Overpriced sharpies with shitty tips. You're thinking of the bigger Gundam Markers. GM01, 02, and 03 have finer tips than you'll ever see on a sharpie lol
Talking about markers, how thin are the gundam markers? I have a Sakura Pigma Micron 003 (0,15mm) and it's doing fine for panel lining, but I would like if it was a tiny bit thinner.
>im a special snowflake guise!
I actually kinda like the look of the expo display kits that aren't color molded yet.
>>8926794The markers suck. Panel liners have barely any ink in them. The paint markers always turn out uneven and spotty. >>8926677Nah. Im thinking of panel liner markers. They suck and barely have any content. I went through 4 fucking gray markers yesterday from 2 different shops. All brand new and sealed. All dry as fuck. $3-4 for the gundam marker. Sharpie is about $1.50. Plus the ink will turn purple over time. Same as a sharpie. The gundam markers are noob traps.
>>8927431which one are you talking about?also, if people bought those markers then they'd have fresh stock with fresh ink. it's your own fault their gundam marker stock is old and dried up like your mother.
>>8927495Blue ones for panel lining. And the one store literally just opened 3 pallets of shit and put the new markers out. They were brand new and sealed in shrink wrap. This is all the ink that came out of 2 brand new markers. Lmao. The tips were dried out and wouldnt even write on paper let alone leave a panel line on plastic. All the gundam branded hobby supplies suck. Markers are shit. Even godhand nippers are shit now due to high demand and cutting quality control to meet demands. Oh and prices are going up as well. Expect a 10-25% increase because the demand is so high and bandai doesnt want to deal with foreign markets.
underrated panel line marker alternatives:inkbrush pensthinned down paintusing the panel line color you want as the base color, painting over it then using a needle to scrape off the top coat
Does floor polish make plastic brittle? I've seen people use it on clear kits and I wanna try it but idk if that'll fuck it all up.
>>8927755you mean pledge with future? its just an aryclic gloss with good leveling properties, completely plastic safe
>>8927760Alright that's good to hear, how long would I have to let that shit dry?
>>8927764>>8927755why would you say it makes it brittle? If people had problems with it, it's because the joints became stiffer, which means moer force is used to move them and that can break already fragile plastic.
>>8927783I was just curious is all
>>8927546Im far from a gunpla snob or gatekeeper, but 1 bottle of Tamiya panel line accent color will last you a lifetime and a half, and its only 8 burger bucks usually
>>8926050Ebay, they have all kinds of random gunpla stuff
>>8925594Na,applying waterslides is zen as hell for me, and like you said the end result is always great to see.
>>8927546Mechanical pencils and colored pencils. Dont underestimate graphite for panel lines or some much needed dry lubriant on some stiff joints. >>8927967Its good stuff but can be a little intimidating for new builders. Im constantly told everything I do is wrong so figured I would give the markers a try. Definitely not worth it and theyre more or less aimed at people afraid of actual paint. Im going to order tamiya accents from a local shop here and get black and gray and thinking getting the light gray as well.
>>8907813I'm new to gunpla, but have put together a few HGs. Anyone know where to get cheap bases in bulk? I found action base 2s for $4.95 at galactic toys. Is that about a cheap as they get?
>>8927539>Even godhand nippers are shit now due to high demand and cutting quality control to meet demandsSource?
>>8927414I think that's primer.
>>8928164primer? I hardly know her!
>>8928009Yea even after a decent ammount of builds I was nervous using it for the first time but wow, it was awesome stuff. Watching it basically fill in the lines by itself is a trip. Get black for sure as it will be your go to, but like you mentioned light grey is something I have ordered in the mail myself. I went to use the black liner on my pure white Marchosias and it was farrr to damn dark, looked like a Dalong lined kit even after cleanup im sure you know to pick up zippo fluid for clean up. And if you post over on the gunpla thread on /m/ you will always get shit on there. What are you currently working on?
>>8928066More or less they go for about five bucks. I sound like a Ebay shill as this>>8927974 is me, but really if you look around you can find good deals, and some sellers lower the price the more you buy. I cant link on this device, but search this on Ebay ---lot of 8 action base suitable display stand for 1/144 HG/RG Gundam figures. There a lil basic but work fine. 8 for under 12 bucks.
Finished building every beyond global kit. Once I get the last stand I need in the mail I’ll take a pic of all 5 posed together. The standard RX, G3, clear, Gundam base, and glow in the dark. To my knowledge nobody has taken one of them all together so I’m really excited to share.

>>8928248Currently building a aeug mk2 revive. Put it on hold to get panel liners though. I have zippo fluid here already. Just seems much easier to paneline smaller parts like the face detail on the kits before assembling them. After that is done I need to line a mega scale zaku then practice waterslides. Then do water slides for a couple other bigger projects.
>>8925207It's just not fair, man.
