What the fuck is wrong with that company? They could literally be the first to ever do a good MP Megs and their just leaving that money on the table by not doing so. Same basic transformation scheme but with take advantage of the extra space with some extra engineering to further clean things up and you're done. Fucking do it already you assholes.

So I never actually ordered anything from PSX before, they have the weirdest business name after this one pawn shop I bought retro games from that showed up as "Most Wanted Jew" on my bank account (shortened from "Most Wanted - Jewelry and Pawn)

That's like something I would come up with for a throwaway account.

MS added a bonus purple backpack-cover to Shockwave. Can't tell if they fixed the dead-eye or if it's just the lighting.
>>
>>8905074
probably just the lighting, light piping never works on heads that small, they must have a laser pointed at it off camera or something. I'm gonna end up painting it when I get it if it bothers me.

Neat backpack though, I hope they do something like what the MP does and let you use it as a stand for the gun.

>>8904115
Her hips are one of the most interesting parts to me based on what we’ve seen so far. Since they’re mounted at a 45 degree angle instead of the standard “T” shape, there’s a whole cluster of hip/thigh swivels to let her legs pose properly. I wonder if that was purely an aesthetic choice for robot mode or if it has more to do with the transformation engineering.

If there's any character that I'd expect to be a magical girl, it would be Windblade honestly, though her 'normal' form in RID honestly didn't seem mundane enough compared to her normal design. Though I have to wonder what she turned into before she got her wings. One of those jet-powered land speed record cars maybe?

>>8907386
Galvatron's cannon does actually have treads on it... not that he ever used them.

Artillery Megatron could also give him some terrifying battlefield presence, it's one thing to have him basically be a demigod in single combat, but when he can drop an antimatter bomb on you from over the horizon before you even know he's there...

>>
>>8907717
This is always one of the worst lessons for a new collector to learn. Companies don't use pre-orders to gauge how many of an item they should make, like you'd believe. They just decide how many they want to make and then make you pre-order them to secure one. So if you aren't constantly checking news and pre-order reveals and rumor forums for info every day, you're likely to miss the slim pre-order windows companies offer. I've had to stay up for 2 days straight refreshing a website just to secure a pre-order, and sometimes even that doesn't help.

It sucks and I know it doesn't seem fair, but that's how it is.

>>
>>8907788
thats not a pre-order, thats a reservation.

>>8907793
the wording needs to change.
If i pre-order something, im assuming the product is not yet being manufactured, and its just a way for the manufacturer to scope interest.
If the interest is low, theres only going to be the preorders, and no actual quantity produced for resale.
Ive been collecting transformers for a bunch now, and so far most companies seem to use preorders in a way that makes sense, MMC especially.
But apparently thats not universal, and i dont understand why that is.
Surely you would make more money if you just accepted every preorder you got in a set amount of time, instead of just saying "we are only making x amount of this".
>>
>>8907893

>>8907893

>>8907893

>>
>>8907793
I think the issue is people assume preorders for luxury toys are like those for mass produced low cost electronic entertainment. Toys need to have each individual part molded, cast, cut out, cleaned, assembled, and sometimes painted, tampographed, or chromed. This all has to be done by an underpaid, overworked, essentially-slave somewhere in Asia by hand. A movie or Game (assuming you want a physical copy) just needs to be pressed on a disk, put in a case, have a cover printed and inserted, then shipped, all of which can be done rapidly by a machine anywhere in the world. The logistics of creating each product are so radically different and the profit margins so dissimilar that we really should adopt different terms for them. I think toys should have "reservations" or "allocations" unless they are made to order like P-Bandai or some other made-to-order service. Would make the difference much more clear to people so they can temper their expectations.
>>
>>8907992
P-Bandai isn't made to order
>>
>>8907517
Like juuuuuust about everything in my collection, I don't have attachment (or even actual experienced knowledge) about this character. But I can see myself getting him because he just looks so damn good.
>>
>>8908009
For something like the DBZ android repaints, yes those were not. They were just convention exclusives that couldn't be sold at conventions for obvious reasons.
But nearly all the P-Bandai exclusive characters are essentially made to order, with Cooler being the recent one.

>>8907913
oh thats interesting.
>>
>>8907992
I think MMC could have avoided some saltiness if they were more transparent about how many copies they produced for the first run. I collect a lot of limited press vinyl records on Bandcamp and they almost tell you “edition of 300” or whatever—then once it’s running low you’ll see “only 38 remaining” or whatever.

People wrongly assumed they had more time to think about it, which is on them, but the bitterness could have been mitigated.

>t. guy who preordered Eris immediately and has nothing to be sad about
>>
>>8908123
They recently increased the price which indicates it might be unexclusive at some point or it was just testing the waters at the time and they'll produce more later.
>>
>>8908123
But people aren't saying they chose to sleep on it. They're saying they didnt know it existed at all until it was already gone. The toy was revealed as soon as it was up for order.
>>
>>8908142
and on top of that, being revealed on April Fools, i wouldnt put it past a lot of people just assuming it was a joke, and never looking more into it.
>>
>>8908150
>>8908142

If you actually think a company would produce a figure like this to completion as an April Fools joke you deserve to miss out.
>>
>>8908247
People are used to gag figure announcements like this, sort of. Like I said in the first place they usually keep it to 3D renders, not actual finished products. If it looks like something that's actually been made it's probably real. They also put up legitimate pre orders on their website too, you don't do that for jokes.
>>
>>8908188
MMC never said that.
>>
>>8908309

Ok... but that’s just a 3D render (not a physical product), and they didn’t post preorders or accept actual payment from people.

>>
>>8908123
>>8908394
Comparing these two photos, you can see that her torso can be extended/collapsed a fair amount. So she can either have a skeletal midsection or a more conventional hourglass figure. Neat.
>>
>>8908309
>They also put up legitimate pre orders on their website too
>>8908394
> they didn’t post preorders or accept actual payment from people.
If someone assumed that the image was an april fools joke, why would they look far enough to find out there were legit pre-orders open? I think that's anon's point, if someone figures it's just a joke, they're just going to brush it off without really looking into it. They're not going to know there are pre-orders open, especially when it's exclusive to one site.
>>

>>8908123
I'm still convinced considering she sold out faster than most of their TFCon exclusives, that she's gonna get a rerun. Only MMC exclusives I've ever even had the ability to purchase period is because Ages 3+'s physical store gets a small stock of 10 or so units every time a con goes down that's only sold in store. Still salty I decided against getting that Death's Head remould of their Lockdown.
>>
>>8908526
I’ve never bought from Planet Steel Express before this figure either, but they’ve been including bonus accessories with MMC figures for years and are one of the regular 3P sellers.

Short of knowing that, just Google “is [website name] legit” like you would for any e-retailer you’re unsure of. Ultimately with any collecting hobby you’ll get burned a few times and become more savvy as you go - if it wasn’t this particular figure it would be some other one.

>>8908491
MMC's normal april fools are blatantly fake renders that nobody would want and generally look like shit. This was clearly a drop of 20+ photos from all of their social media accounts of a completed figure with a link to the preorder page. You actually can't expect people to spoonfeed you like this. Sometimes things are limited run and exclusive because the company needs to gauge interest, get over it or pick another hobby.

Personally I would say it's hard to call this correlation or causation. There's always the late comers (myself included) to similar exclusive releases that talk about being late comers here.

It's similarly exacerbated when (basically for FansToys in particular) figures that are not actual exclusives still have limited per-site allocations. And even when placing restrictions to only 1 or 2 pieces (TCP did 3 with Apache's most recent re-run), those are filled up reallllllllly quick.

What I think has changed is the general climate of the boards, since the language and lingo cross-pollinates all over. There's certainly an unhealthy amount of negativity towards one thing or another on the site, and it just breeds replies in kind.
>>
>>8908632
Here's the thing: the reason this thread has such a bad reputation is this kind of extreme defensiveness from people here on behalf of these soulless companies. The idea that people should be thankful that they got fucked out of a chance for something they want is absolutely deranged.

I get it. You've invested a lot of your identity in these companies due to spending a lot of money on them, but they don't give a fuck about you. They aren't going to reward you. It certainly is, especially for Planet Steel Express.
I missed a Mirage order because I was a dumbass that missed preorders. Like no shit MMC fucked up here but it's happened before and it will probably happen again. Learn to roll with the punches, that's the nature of 3P.
>>
>>8908693
This is why I assume this shitfuck today is completely based on one or two idiots who don't come here. Gives me the same vibes as /v/tards coming in when the nintendo figmas came out.

>>8908695
This too. Normally MMC doesn't reprint variations on their figures since they're just single part remoulds on an already done figure, but this is kind of an extreme exception. Not a single part on her is reused, it's a 100% fresh mould. I severely doubt she won't get a reprint.
>>
>>8908707
Well especially for Eris too who is a 3p transforming figure that is a female reimagining of a comic-original character that only has one officially made figure which is the high-end Flametoys one. The fact that she exists at all is insane when you think about it

I just thought it was a pleasant surprise after they showed off that art a few months back and teased the idea of a new line of experimental takes and new characters. I have no interest in her because of those gorilla hands and already owning their Tarn but if this means more weird shit instead of just the same MP-alikes again, I'm down.
>>
>>8907139
I doubt anyone wants to do her, she's just a bit too obscure to risk. There's a big difference between her and the popular villains from the popular Bumblebee movie.
>>
>>8908724
I'm with you there, weird shit seems like an untapped market. The only other similar sort of thing I can think of are those upcoming(?) Beast Wars vehicle figures, with Waspinator and Tarantulas
>>
>>8908731
Yeah it feels like a return to the early 2010s where it was obscure comic designs and stuff to fill CHUG shelves instead of slavish sunbow accurate stuff. Glad the overall quality of the toys has improved massively since then but it was nice seeing more interesting and unique takes. Personally hoping MMC makes their own gigantic bruiser type guy. Their Helex and Tesarus are some of my favourite figures they've ever made and are still poseable despite the bulk and I'd love to see them make something like that but Autobot.
>>
>>8908729

>>
>>8908639
>I don't even like that mould at all but I still bought him because he looked so damn clean
I guess I can say I'm "lucky" enough that he's the only one of the mold I have, but I agree for liking his cleanliness, as well as his overall look. That's also the reason I would have wanted the Batman reskin; but I pretty much knew ahead of time I was going to miss that one since he went live while I was at work. And even knowing that I could have tried the shirked duties for a moment to slip in an order, it just didn't sit right with me. I held a bit of hope that there would still be slots by the time I got home, but wasn't surprised when there weren't.

>I just thought it was a pleasant surprise after they showed off that art a few months back and teased the idea of a new line of experimental takes and new characters
I knew the latter part about the new line being at least a concept idea for them, but I personally can't recall specifically seeing the art for this character shown off. Her suddenly showing up on the 1st was the...first...that I had.

>>8908731
>weird shit seems like an untapped market
This is part of what I like about TFC's ST line that they've been doing. Even if it's only 4 variants of Prime (the last isn't released yet last I recall), and 1 known version of Megs. Perhaps it would be more accurate calling it a half-step, since they are clear & defined known characters, but it still is a new take on them.

>>8908741
>stuff to fill CHUG shelves
I can't personally attest to hearing it from the horse's mouth, but I know what has been repeated the most is that costs:margins for that size aren't wildly variant from at least doing MP, if not legends as well; and that it just comes down to matters of trying to keep business be in business.
>>
>>8908802
Nice. I don't know what these guys r talking about, there had been buzz about a new line w a fem Tarn for a couple months. It literally takes 0 energy to look into.

And just since I'm already here, and don't want risk a risk asking over in /tfg/, should I try my hand at getting an actual TT MP-13, or just say fuck it and get a KO version? Because who's to say how soon FT would turn their own Soundwave into a production priority.
>>
>>8908753
For me I want them to take another swing at Guzzle, make the gigantic beefcake one from Sins. I really don't care for the baby version they put out with Brawn, and I especially am not fond of the idea of paying an extra $60 for a figure I don't want and can't resell.

>>8908782

>My only real interests now are what MMC and Planet-X are putting out. Still holding out hope for a 3p FoC Bruticus in current year
I've got my order in for PX's IDW Grimlock, though I'll admit I do entertain the thought for their black Vulcan repaint as well; despite having Fireblast & G2 colors already. I know there's a number of people calling him Shattered Glass, but that there have been others saying that it either isn't, or isn't quite.

As for Bruticus, without trying to be pessimistic about it, I think the closest we'll have is the...Lone Wolf? Before & After?...Onslaught that was made.

>>8908009

Yeah, P-Bandai runs order windows during which you can order the figure, then the order time closes and they produce what they need to fill the orders.

>>8907895
Wouldn't really change much. Companies can't do unlimited production runs, so the stock has to cap somewhere, preorders just make sure you get one when it ships out.

they dont have to.
just have a timed preorder period, take all the preorders that get done during it, and add 10% that get sold to retailers.

I remember wanting that thing so badly when it came out because it so massively improved FoC Bruticus, but the limb bots were all still suck a fucking mess and you outright had to disassemble the arms to make them transform so it was still a hard pass. I just don't get how it's the most recognizable and fun design from the games and nobody has made a real attempt to make it work. Like we have a fucking WfC Trypticon that turns into the Nemesis but no decent Brawl.
I do still want to know what happened to that Grimlock though. It's clearly a Sark design and MMC showed it off years ago, it disappears and then suddenly reappears as a PX figure with mild improvements. Almost gives me hope for MMC's Thunderblast since it got shown off around the same time, least since G-Creation's one just evaporated.
>>
>>8909012
>It's clearly a Sark design and MMC showed it off years ago, it disappears and then suddenly reappears as a PX figure with mild improvements
I'll admit that I hadn't considered drawing a connection between the two of them, but can certainly acknowledge now similarities between them; strikingly so. Probably the reason for that being knowing that MMC's was something trying to be a thing lodged back in my head, but PX actually being put front and center.

A tangentially similar situation, and also being between PX and MMC, is with Deathsaurus. The one from PX, as well as the parts to alter his appearance, have actually released; and more than once at that. Or at the very least if it hasn't already yet released, the 2nd (or 3rd?) run is in the pipeline to happen. Meanwhile MMC has shown off updated details on one of their two versions, but still in prototype grey and not in any colors. So the wait continues there. For the record I have both PX releases, as well as their Star Saber (I find him to be just fine, don't >> me).
>>
>>8909071
>>8909012
(continues)
It also is a shame that perhaps what could be thought of as one of the more interesting takes on the cast in the last just-over-a-decade in terms of looks coincided with a time that a more affordable access to the needed resources wasn't there. Of course that's not to dismiss the fact that certainly afterwards price points got god fucking damn ridiculous, but just specifically in this case that the figures were just simply made with overall less material, which really to their detriment.
>>
>>8909003
Would probably get confusing with various stores needing to all close orders at the same time or risk getting more orders than the factory could handle. Bandai makes it work because they take and ship the orders, but otherwise it's much easier to just make like 4000 pieces, and let the distributors split the stock up from there.

>>8909012
Thunderwing. Thunderblast is the Cybertron titty boat.
I think MMC dropped or delayed Grimlock because there were too many Grimlocks on the market. Poking MMC Grimlock's thread suggests he was postponed specifically to avoid having to compete with PX Grimlock and that the two are and always have been entirely different molds.
>>
>>8909071
I've been waiting for that Deathsaurus to put on the shelf next to my TFC Breastforce for what, 4 years now? Wouldn't drive me so fucking apeshit if they wouldn't keep releasing things with no announcement or build like how they delayed the desired DJD members to put out the loli grandma. Like jesus christ how hard is it to just put him out when in the last year you dropped Star Convoy, a Pax and now this girl-Tarn, all with no prototype images or hype build?

>>8909098
Right, it doesn't help how many Thunder__ characters there are, and that he's been thrown in a fucking box for the last decade. I still would kill for this thing to release, especially now that we have access to actually very good Drones to display with him. Plus Garatron is basically impossible to even find secondhand. Literally never seen him for sale after he disappeared and he was still missing the Pretender gimmick that the MMC one was/is supposed to have.
I just assumed cancelled now as MMC have shown that they'll cancel anything if someone else is working on it, especially after they cancelled that amazing Fortmax.

Do y'all think that helicopter Waspinator makes it more or less likely that we'll get a seeker/jet Waspinator at some point? Ever since I saw the BotCon Waspinator I've thought a 3P seeker Waspinator with really nicely painted yellow/black wings would be excellent.
>>
>>8909158

But yeah, I completely agree with you in regards to Deathsaurus. If he is still shown as a gray prototype by Q3, I'll just reconsider getting the Planet X one or something instead.

When is the next convention or whatever? There's definitely no TFCon here in Toronto either this year, maybe the USA one?
>>

>>
>>8909210
I knew that when they showed him black & purple it was going to make me fold. The only defense I had against it was the order slots for him being closed out fairly quickly...Only to re-open again some few days later. It's also those colors that makes me lick my lips at Flame Toys' Megatron, but using his $400 price tag as the leash on a stake to hold me back.

>>8909309
>Apparently they are redeveloping that Fort Max/Supermax a bit?
I wasn't in on the initial backing for him, but maybe I'll change my mind if they bring the idea back again. If there was ever a product that suffered from a lack of wide & clear information made available, he's certainly the poster child.

can I just bring up how MMC Bruticus's boxes are just the worst most impossible to neatly stack boxes ever
>Blastoff, Vortex, Brawl and Swindle all have progressively smaller boxes that are just the wrong shapes and don't match each other at all (Blastoff and Vortex look close but they're barely different enough to make it a problem)
>Onslaught's fucking 7 foot long box
>The addon kit that's just a flat rectangle
There's just no pretty way of stacking these on my box wall

Who could six tarn be? a member of the 6 ninja clan that subscribed to Tarns system of conduct, and took on his color scheme to honor him?

Or maybe someone put Tarns spark and brain into Sixshot's body.

Part of the process of prepping my room for painting (which has happened) and new floor installation (starts in 7 days) was boxing up my boxes. And while there are a number that are so, I did choose at that point to purge those particular ones out. When the time comes to bit by bit unpack things again (after planning the logistics for new bookcase + floating shelf placement), I'll do further thinning.

Barely any of the partsforming combiners actually go the extra mile on articulation and MMC is just in the corner doing their thing even with the self imposed all-in-one limitation. I just don't get it.

Needing to transform into bulky vehicles, wanting to make them look like they're wearing armor, etc. Even Japan has done it, look at Hyper Roll here. It's not as extreme as fem-Tarn, but her shoulders are still a bit wider than her hips.

Transformers were never american, the characters were created in a rush, and rough, if the cast did as good a job with robots, that would have had the impact, but no, you got five japanese toylines spliced into a toy story world.

You know what american transformers are? 86-87.

Got my NA SG Megs, it's pretty cool but the elbows are a bit weird, like they pop out a bit and become very loose.
It's easy to pop them back it but it was weird, also those arm treads get in the way a bit.

There is this one by TnR. Last update was after Chinese New Year in Feb.
https://tieba.baidu.com/p/7239789100
There won't be much news since TnR ghosted themselves off the Internet after their Jazz. That baidu board's moderator had to personally seek them out in the WuTang Mountains for those pics.

>>

>>8911398
Eh that analogy doesn’t really track.

NA is all Sunbow G1 (but with some increasingly fun repaints/retools), intricate and creative transformations, great articulation, great tolerances, great paint.

IF is a mix of IDW-ish and original designs, alt modes tend to be de-prioritized but that depends on the figure, transformations are generally simpler, great articulation, tolerances can be too tight, great paint.
