You're probably thinking of Bricklink Stud.io, which does not typically look any better than Lego Digital Designer, but it does have a number of features that make it preferable.
>Up-to-date parts palette and TLG Support
Bricklink, and by extension Stud.io, is an official TLG resource, so new parts are constantly being added. Also, if you hadn't noticed, fresh downloads of LDD have severely reduced parts selection due to the LDD servers having been taken offline.
>Bricklink PartDesigner
With Stud.io's sister tool, you can import models and assign connection points for ease of use. This can come in handy if there are out-of-print or nonexistent parts you want to use. (Which is to say, you're a Biofag)
>Advanced Tools
Stud.io offers a suite of controls and tools that allow a much higher level of precision than was available in LDD, including precise rotations and toggleable collisions.
>Bricklink integration
If you're not actually a poorfag and can afford to buy bricks, Stud.io can automatically create a cart for you.
>Built in POV-ray and Photorealistic Renderer
This is probably what you were referring to. With Stud.io's built in photoreal render options, you can make beautiful renders of your builds before (or in lieu of) buying them. If your heresy truly knows no bounds, know also that the available color palette of Stud.io not only dwarfs LDD's, but also includes glowing variants of certain colors, and full support for completely custom colors. Check out Swampkryakwa's Color Pack to see some examples.
Now go, and condemn yourself to the plight of the eternal CADfag.

Of course the increased savings, work experience, and regular exercise help too, but without a constant drip feed of sets I’d likely lose motivation of work.

This week was the Boulder Blaster and a series 3 DOTS pack. I don’t have much use for the detail pieces, but they’re cheap enough and weird enough that at least one pack should be sufficient for most things.

Why are raised baseplates no longer a thing? They improve set aesthetics tenfold, make structures look far more elaborate and imposing, you could never get away with wasting that many pieces to brickbuild something like it. All in all they allow Lego to sell things at a higher price with surely cheaper production costs.
>>
>>8799569
Too expensive to make and Lego themselves didn't actually produce them but Bayer.

I like his reviews the most, of course there are more popular English reviewers out there but he isn't a LEGO fanboy and does fair judgment and doesn't shy away from criticizing them even tho they sued him numerous times now. He introduced me to other manufacturers like CADA, Bluebrixx, Codi.

LEGO tried to combat the falling sales numbers by increasing the price but their quality and overall product offer has been poor for quite some time. You can see how they are out of touch with their fan base just by looking at the IDEA creations that people actually want and the actual products they deliver.

>LEGO tried to combat the falling sales numbers by increasing the price but their quality and overall product offer has been poor for quite some time.

Isn't the quality decrease because they had to produce their bricks faster, as a result of such high demand for Lego that they couldn't meet it otherwise?
>>
For anyone scared of mocing, try getting a small set (under $20 at least) or a small build from a larger set, and try to build something else with just those pieces. Necessity is the mother of invention, so you’ll never discover a cool new way parts interact without being ‘forced’ to put them together.
>>
>>8799635
>they sued him numerous times now

>>8799655
this is the answer unfortunately. they have accepted a ton of RMA on stuff like red-brown pieces (I had 3 break on me while building Unexpected Gathering recently) as a cost efficient sacrifice to get as much product on the shelves as possible. A totally different company from 30 years ago, but who knows what they would have done with the demand licensing puts on them then.

The big reason people figured out over time seems to be the plastic which initially was bought already pre-colored but now consists of translucent pellets as base that get color pigments added during production.
Not only is this one of the reason for the increasing amount of discolored parts but also why so many pieces with clips on them crack.
Those things were once made of an entirely different, softer, plastic that was more resistant to stress but now they're made from the same stuff as everything else.
If you compare something like the flag pieces from around the 90s or very early 00s and the ones from like 2010 onward you'll definitely see and feel that they're much less shiny and actually bendable.

To me, this issue is THE worst thing that happened to Lego over the years since unlike stuff like stickers or licenses this shit pretty much ruins the entire product on a MASSIVE level.

There is no such high demand, LEGO is losing millions of $ because of online competition, gen alpha and young zoomers never heard of it because they play Minecraft and Forknight. Parents can't afford dropping $200 per set so they just hand their phones to the kids and let them play games.

LEGO now relies on gen x and millennials who buy things such as The Office, Friends and other overpriced license crap like SW.

The have poor quality now because they produce their bricks with cheap shitty plastic in China.

>>8799665
Yes, once because of a blue brick logo saying "people will confuse it with the LEGO trademark", the other was because he called replica bricks "LEGO bricks" which would confuse the buyers so he had to take those videos down.
>>
>>8799675
>MASSIVE level.
they are aware of the issue, and are willing to make the sacrifice

the amount they need to spend on RMAs and customer service is not a great enough impact on the increased profits from this new production method. going backward would likely impact their ability to meet demand, and switching methods again would probably cost more in the process than 100 years of RMAs and returns combined

MFW 90th anniversary set is Bionicle and it saves Lego financially again.

Honestly though, appealing to China is a mistake. They are pure cancer and the Chinese buy the knock off sets that are around a 5th of the price.

>>8799686
Lego around a decade or so ago hit a peak financially, it was selling as much as it could to virtually as many as it could and again gains from further expansion or further branching sets would be small and limited.

As such, they switched to making the parts cheaper, appealing to females, minority groups, desperately sucking China's dick, etc... because they know the only way to keep having profits increase is if they can appeal to a new group.

Lego has no long-term future though, getting rid of plastic is what the powers that be are aiming for. Eventually that will extend to toys - Lego does not really have an option at that stage. I'd guess it'll die sometime after the 100th anniversary.

They're called CADfags anon.

They're under the mistaken impression that handicapping their creativity to the limits of computer programs is kewl becuz you can change the colorz with the click of a mouse!

This is why Lego has lost it's soul.

Sets are designed and packaged at the factories without ever being built by hand, leaving it up to Lego's customers to discover the computer's mistakes that the CADfag missed while he was busy uploading his renders to reddit for an automatic 4k updoots.

Why are the current moc creators so deranged? So some people like to build and display the sets, that doesn't make them any less of a fan of Lego than you, sure some people like to render mocs in CAD because its far cheaper than physically building, they are just as much lego fans as you, This is some sony fanboy tier of idiocy going on in the thread lately and it needs to stop. The only reason to dislike CAD is when Lego uses them to design physical sets and doesn't playtest them first hand and we get issues like the ghost rider car
>>

And has there ever been a situation where a roving band of chads from your high school accosted you for doing that? It won't happen it's absurd bros chill out.

And if you're ever caught flat footed by some wagie just laugh and show them your phone and the one(s) you're trying to find and say it's for your nephew /niece's birthday or something come on anons don't reward Lego for being assholes with their packaging.

>CAD
Computer Aided Design
Since 1980s almost everything is done with CAD tools - from plane and car designs to microstructures. 1st there's CAD model, then scale model, then life-sized prototype. This way you can save millions in serious business. No idea why LEGO does it since building process is basically the essence of LEGO itself.
>>
>>8800320
Because its easier, cheaper, faster and safer to design it by computer instead of physical building. Imagine being a brickmonkey and getting RSI from clicking bricks together all day
>>
>>8799978
Everyone in the thread agrees, SW armybuilders > mocfags.
>>
>>8800329
Yes it is easier and cheaper no doubt but they are missing one important point - building experience itself. LEGO as toy, and construction toy, needs to put more emphasis on the process of construction alone. Kids and AFOLs who are about to play with final product will have to build it up and not click here and there.

Many very nice builds are absolutely awful in building process. Either repetitive (Taj M, Empire building) or just very annoying (Collector's Falcon) in the process. They are easy to click together but they are pain in ass to play with.
>>
>>8800375
They're not supposed to be played with though, Not all Lego is for play, Lego has evolved past that and is now making sets purely for the model kit feel and display. It's just the nature of the business as Lego seeks to expand its demographics

It's a set for a child whose parents only want to spend $5 on pacifying him for the day by buying him "a toy". There used to be one and I tried joining years ago but it's one big clique. There was like 5 people that were worshipped for no real reason (1 of them was only into lego because he was a scalper) and there was no moc posting at all really. There was one person that I remember posting mocs but they were always renders of trains that used impossible techniques and colours, not to mention 'she' had managed to attract some orbiters within the discord channel. There wasn't even that much Lego posting either - it was sort of a place where they'd talk about life in general (or more accurately whinge about school) and they had long left /lg/. The users were all massively underage too. I posted about an Alpha Team set I recently picked up (at the time) and I got told to fuck off for posting bootlego because it seems anything after classic Lego but pre-2007 was unknown territory to them.

I wouldn't bother with discord, but if you dig through the archives you might find a link to it if you want to give it a go. If you're serious about wanting another place to talk about lego, why not try out anon.cafe/lego?

>Purple, dark azure, aqua quarter round tiles, pink trans tile, a series 3 white printed tile, star tile
>Coral round tile, medium azure and Keetorange quarter round tile, clear round tile WITH GLITTER, a series 2 white printed tile, and the diamond tile.

Both the star and the diamond jut up a bit, the same height as a regular stud top but with different proportions.

I'm in the server and none of those are true, mocs are being posted daily and there are no trannies. Only Lego is being posted and the off-topic channel is inactive, no underages talking about school.

You really had to make everything look bad to have people go to anon.cafe? I went there and nothing is being posted. And im not going to participate in the reacton images thread that looks to be the only threads thats alive.

You can promote your channel, just don't make up lies faggot.

Renaissance Italy/Europe with artists, inventors and gaudy nobility guard by musketeer type soldiers for characters. I'd like to see Vikings get a reboot. The mid 2000s sets were really neat, but quite dated to today's standards, and the figures were more or less bland with 1 helmet mold, reused weapons from kingdoms and limited torso prints. I also have mixed feelings on the technic style dragons. I like them better than the overly molded ones, but they needed more brick build structure to fit in with the rest of the builds.

So This! There are more and more original Ideas coming out of the other outlets that LEGO will never be able to capture the audience they once had. The quality of the Non-LEGO has come a long way since LEPIN came on the scene and since.

>>8803046
I used to think the same way but it's what makes you happy in the long run. Don't worry about the What Ifs in life. Most of the regrets you'll have in life are the things you never did.

I buy odd lots from various places and the Non-LEGO used to get piled and sold off. Now I actually keep the good stuff and it's come in handy. Granted there are always going to be pieces out there that scream I am not LEGO but things like smooth tiles etc. are pretty spot on.

I bought 40 32x32 base plates at the dollar store for a buck a pop and built my city on them. You can't tell because every last stud is covered by LEGO.

>>8803046

As for the roadplates themselves: I was initially hoping to get way more of the walkway plates without print, so I can have a little green or guardrails in between lanes. The scale is great, works well with 4 wides and 5 wides like the old Tiny Turbos. I generally really dig the road plates since they're more modular and a bit smaller in scale. However they shouldn't have been a replacement. Also horribly overpriced.

Too character focused (and too much size variation between characters) to properly tie it to klocki without making absolute fuck ups in regards to character and build proportions. I'm sure that Mega would've handled the license better.
They could do a better job recreating other payload maps by making separate sets, one with the payload itself with like 2 minifigs and a small scenery build, the latter tied to a second, bigger scenery build with other minifigs. This way you could encourage people to buy both.
They tried too hard to reach a sweet spot between "playability" and "dust collecting conversation pieces" and ultimately failing at both. Again, Mega would've done a better job being a more figure-focused toyline.

And of course...
the ultimate meme,
the biggest proof of TLG's decline in quality over the years,
making both waifufags and /lg anons seethe every time only by existing,

Yeah, I kinda hope Blizz gives it another shot with OW2 with a different company like Mega. But knowing Blizzard complete marketing incompetence, probably not.
>>
>>8804896
There's at least precedent of other companies switching between Lego and Mega, like Nick for example with their Spongebob and TMNT lines. Blizzard also did their Warcraft stuff with Mega back then so it wouldn't be their first try.

Sadly I can't bring myself to care about OW2, I enjoyed my time with OW and I even got some of those sets, but they effectively burned me out with their retarded game decisions and vapid virtue signaling as a company.

I think the weapons really hurt them, too bulky. Some more specific custom molds for weapons, given its a combat game, would have really helped.

This basically falls back to the minifigures being cool and decently well done, but not quite good enough to hit it out of the park.

Size of weps / figure size variation in general. The "big" set being a rocket for playability rather than making a scenery / layout also hurt a ton, a flagship map set to put everyone on would have helped the theme feel a lot more cohesive IMO.

Not to mention they could have had a futuristic large map released around the same time junkertown, er, Apacalypseburg was in production

Other than good discounts, the Dva Mech was the best thing to come out of the line

For me it was primarily the pricing. Had no familiarity with the brand and every set was priced a lot more than it should be cause Lego wanted to milk the license. It also felt like the location builds were pretty bland - more effort seemed to be put into the vehicles.

The ones that appealed more to me were 75973, 75974 and 75976 because of the mech nature - but did not get any due to price.

>>8802902
I own some knockoff Lego, it is cheaper and has generally been a higher quality lasting longer without pieces breaking than most my official sets. Only issue is production quality varies, but if you get a good figure/set you are fine. Though they mislead people with the advertising sometimes.

Aquanauts Neptune Discovery Lab, set had it all.

- Best usage of landscape raised baseplates, had two
- Massive enclosed base, with secondary enclosed pod structure, large transparent parts
- Vehicle side build and landing pad
- Play feature of crystals interact with boxes, crane, converor belt
- Excellent minifigure accessories with chrome weapons, chrome crystals, magnets, working compass

Easily one of the best sets of all time, IMO
