Vintage 1980s Gi Joe appreciation threadDiscussion and show cool pictures!
>>8691135It's cool pictures like this that make me want to start collecting these guys. It's called action force in the UK, does anyone know why they changed the name for Europe?
>>8691135>Action Force is a brand of European action figures released in the 1980s that was based on the Action Man toyline. It was also used to introduce G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero toys to European markets.
>>8691143Action force was its own brand that had been established in Europe since ‘82. The company who owned it sold the rights to hasbro after the owner died and hasbro just used the name to release GI joe figures and made Cobra the enemy of Action Force
>>8691172are there any differences between the American Joe's and UK action force toys?
>>8691143You guys relate with that better than real American hero.
>>8691202Slightly
>>8693364that does not seems to be a good camouflage decision.
>>8693672Man Immortals are so fucking cool.
>>8691135
>>8693839Lol Yee haw!>>8693881My favorite but so damn expensive!
>>8691135My favourite cobra vehicle.
Does anyone own one of these?
>>8694631God thats sick. I'm grateful analog toys is obsessed with this shit because that really is a cool looking toy.
>>8691135'87 was the year I started collecting Joe's as a little boy. I had Dr. Mindbender and a Techno-Viper but my parents never bought me the awesome Maggot.Either birthday or Christmas of '88, though, I got both the Rolling Thunder and Bugg, which were always my favorite vehicles.
>>8693839Welcome to the wonderful world of GI Joe.
>>8694631Sadly no, I wish I did. Hell I wish I owned the Vaction in the Shadows Joecon set.
>>8694631No, but extremely based!!
>>8694733My man is here lol. Let us see if the thread survives long!
>>8691135I just snagged a complete Techno Viper at a vintage toy store for 15 clams, only thing he was missing was a stand. So far I only have him and Ninja Force Night Creeper. Care to recommend any other colorful creeps I can add to the collection?
>>8695022>Care to recommend any other colorful creeps I can add to the collection?
>>8695042>more tacky purple villainsYou sir, are a good man. Will certainly hunt this freak.
>>8695022>>8695042>>8695056What do you get when you cross a Snow Serpent and Night Viper with Prince? Heli-Vipers are underrated imo.
>>8694631grand designlooks like a boss fight from a Eugene Jarvis game (N.A.R.C., Smash TV, Total Carnage)
>>86950221987 Royal Guard 1989 Alley Viper1990 Range Viper1991 Toxo Viper...
>>8694971Hey man!
Decided to keep my CG-style trooper after all and make a new body for the viper head.
It'll look good when it's all painted up, I swear. lol
>>8695493Oh definitely will be sweet my dude!My condolences for the untimely demise of Flak ???????
>>8695713>My condolences for the untimely demise of Flak ???????Ha! Whatever helps you sleep at night, man.
>>8695493Cobra commander has a faceplate, why does he need goggles on his helmet?
>>8695810They're like the portholes on a 57 t-bird or the gears on a steampunk uniform: just for show.
>>8695803Hahahaha
New to Joe. What should I start with?
>>8696156If you have to ask, then you're probably not ready. But when some figure or vehicle has gotten under your skin so much that you find yourself wistfully bookmarking ebay listings and endlessly looking at whatever pics you can find online, go for it.
>>8696156If you want to focus on vehicles you could do alot worse...
>>8696197I'm definitely more interested in starting with a vehicle. More specifically, a jet. I was looking at a conquest listing too.
>>8691143Why do I keep reading this?? From what I can remember, only the comics were called action force and a early line of 3.75 figures that was separate and before gi joe.I was born in 82 In uk and collected joes from a child and the toys were always called gi joe.
>>8696208Skystriker is awesome. Had one as a kid. I think the newer release of it was favorably received as well. https://www.yojoe.com/vehicles/11/skystriker/
Dr Mindbender's experiments got increasingly fringe during my teen years.

>>8699233>>Growls at Flint>> Enforce dez nutz>> Blam!
Does anyone own this Chad aircraft?
>>8699267Forgot the pic.
>>8699269Nope but it is very based!
Gi Hoes...
>>8693933what is even the point of this shit? They are just standing there in the most boring pose imaginable; the guy doesn't take advantage of their absurd numbers to create a truly wonderful scene.
>>8699269I had that one as a kid. It's not that great. The play features don't work very well and kinda get in the way. Skystriker was much better.
>>8699390Agreed
>>8697704I always hated that cobra commander. It's like he was caught mid pump with Baroness and tossed on her clothes to convince Destro nothing was going on.
>>8699746Yessssssss Yessssssss!
>>8699820Pimpstro
>>8699783>>A cheeky '97 Cobra Viper in the background.
>>8700304He was busted down to Toxo Zombie for that stunt!
work in progress: grape soda viper
Is custom painting vintage joe vehicles cool or haram?
>>8700575Another example.
>>8700575I personally think customizing vehicles is a sin but I'm pro-custom figures, I don't know how to justify this convulted stance maybe I'm retarded but that's how I feel.
>>8700521Pretty sweet color scheme...
>>8699746whaaa... it was my first (and only ARAH) Cobra Commander. I feel personally attacked if just a bit. He looks so cool in black, but it doesn't hold up to blue cobra commander I'll give you that. I started with Battle Corps but even at that young age I was biased against neon colored figures, so I always was looking for the most subdued colored figures. Seeing the catalogs on old figures was kind of sad because I knew I would not get any of them, on the contrary though finding yojoe.com sometime around late 90's early 2000's was such a joy... watching those 80's figures in very good quality.... Lt. Falcon, Footloose, Duke...it was incredible.
>>8700575>>8700579I'm all for it. When I was a kid and my skystriker started looking a bit beat up, I spray painted it matt black with gloss red on the leading edges of the wings. That chrome skystriker, btw, looks bitchin'.
>>8700589Thanks. It's a simple color scheme, but the deep purple-blue looks great in person. Rides that line between realistic and ridiculous that I love for Cobra stuff.
>>8700575>>8700579always cool if they're good.>>8700732THIS>>8700465JERKS
>>8700646that's a nice Snake Eyes.

>>8701683I always love to see O-Ring joes with scale props and environments.
>>8701696Duke: Golly General Hawk, what did you bring to show and tell?General Hawk: I brought my gold guns, my prominent chin, and my rock-hard abs. What the hell did you losers bring?Snake-Eyes: *holds uzi*

>>87027651991 was a stellar year for the line!
>>8703221Is that Quartz?
That? That's a Sankara Stone. It glows with the warmth of Shiva.
And it visits fiery destruction upon those who betray Shiva.
Or it's just Himalayan salt. Either or.
>>8703523Fortune and Glory kid.. Fortune and Glory.
>>8703527
>>8704684Underrated figure. Voltar is based
>>8705309Ehhhhh... what's up Doc?
>>8705407every goddamn time....
>>8704812I never had him, but he looks awesome. Great pic, too.
>>8705465Man the hours I spent in my yard with Falcon and Outback...
>>8705568They're both great figures. Falcon I got just a few years back, but Outback was one of four figures that somehow survived my childhood. Amazing considering how much I played with them.
>>8705734Man the Survival on his shirt has well...survived... Really well to be honest.
>>87057841997 Baroness is underrated
>>8705813When I was in my 20s I walked into Toys R Us in 1997 and was Sooooooooo happy to see Joe's on the shelf.Had no idea they were coming out! Loved them!
>>8705784It's been touched up with paint. I've done at least one major round of repair and restoration on each of those four figures. (Multiple rounds on both Gung-Ho and Outback.) Wish I'd taken some pics of what they looked like back then.
>>8705821This was right before I started buying Toyfare back then! Miss that magazine
>>8705822Yeah he looks great. You wouldn't be able to tell from looking to be honest.Must be so fun to tinker with them. I don't have the skills so I leave mine alone lol
>>8705821I was admiring them as a teenager from the South Seas of the Pacific/Tasman via the internet. Sadly they would appear on shelves down here till 2003/4/5 with wave or of the 2packs of JvsC, Spy Troops and VvsV. Thankfully the JvsC ones were early ARAH O'Ring repaints and the Venom Cycle.>>8705825I still have that G.I Joe figure guide issue from the early 00s, with the joke captions like Flint having the jauntiest beret.
>>8705844Oh wow you must have been chomping at the bit to get them.Yeah Toyfare was the best with the comics and pictures! I wonder what the Joe's were going for at that time.
>>8705854also their appearances in Spiderman's house.
>>8705858Oh man the drunk Ironman!!!!Such good times back then my brother!
>>8705831Thanks! But trial and error is all it took. And lots of starting over. Lots and lots of starting over, LOL.If you look closely at the bottom of the U in SURVIVAL you can see where I nicked the plastic using the tip of an X-acto blade to scrape excess black paint away. I can never unsee my mistakes.
>>8705858>So this is what Reagan's America was like.lol
>>8705878Oh wow! I can see lol, but in a way it makes the figure even cooler all the memories attached.
>>8705935Now see Wet Suit is tough for me. I didn't like how they did him in the cartoon so it's always been hard to warm to the figure. Same with Lowlight.Course I am a hypocrite because I didn't like how they did Leatherneck either but I played with his figure constantly lol
>>8705970>but in a way it makes the figure even cooler all the memories attached.Definitely!
>>8706066'88. The year the bad guys discovered bling.
>>8705975Makes sense to me. Wet Suit was silly in the cartoon and his colors were unrealistic, but I dug the design of his suit. (So I repainted him into my version of Torpedo.)And Leatherneck was dorky, but his figure had a lot of play value, especially compared to a figure that wears flippers.
>>8706704
>>8693933This is beatiful anon
>>8694733Tunnel Rat is inspired in Larry Hama

>>8708302To be honest I use him as a fitness trainer for my Joe's. He is totally a Seal, but currently he is assigned to get the Joe's endurance up.

>>8710778Barbecue is definitely one of the gems of the line. One of my favorites.
>>8712389I used to go to this church as a kid with awesome multi color stained glass windows.I used to picture each Joe smashing through their color lol.Barbeque orange airtight yellow ect.Not very respectful but my imagination was wild
