Can someone give me a quick rundown on Mini GT models?
picrandom
>>
>>8676508

In the 80s (and maybe 70s and early 90s?) they were halfway decent. Not as good as a Matchbox or Hot Wheels, but they still had metal bases and opening parts and were somewhat decent representations of the real vehicles. The quality got worse and worse over the years, although they did keep doing licensed stuff. In the mid-2000s they had some "premium" releases that weren't horrible but also not that great either, and they were hard to find. Just browse through this page if you want to see what they've done: https://www.diecastgarage.org/node/484

>>8676532

Really nice, true 1/64, highly detailed, good quality control, and they all roll well. In the very early days their QC had issues but it's fine for the most part now.

Thanks for the link. What the fuck with quality. Ones labeled 800 look like cheapest chink shit while 1000 are very good. Mustang Pace Car for example has clear headlights and a lot of details even hot wheels doesn't make while others look like barely recognizable cars.

Early Yatming was based. All metal with opening parts and bouncy suspension like Tomica or Matchbox. Later Yatming is pretty basic Chinese crap.

One of the best all around brands at the moment. Expensive ($10-15) but high-quality, metal body/base.

Yeah, it's a kind of a dream car of mine, had a Renault Clio 1994 as my first ever car, and loved it greatly, much more than many of the more modern Renaults I had the misfortune of using before being too fed up with Renault problems to own one ever again, no matter how cheap, but the oldie worked great, and that one looks like it but better and probably is as sweet to use as the 94 clio

Anyone else like the texture and paint of color shifters?

Its not really visible on the pics, but eventhough the base is plastic, the coating gives them a really neat texture. Reminds me of carbon somehow

Also, its pretty neat how some change colors just by holding them in your hand

I don't have that old cars in my collection due to most of them being given away to random relatives kids before I got into collecting, but I have the Hot Wheels Nissan Custom Z from 1994

But, the oldest car I probably ever had, that I can remember at least, is the 1969 Custom Police Cruiser from Hot Wheels. It was a hand-me-down from a cousin, among a few other old cars, and a bit beat up, and I distinctively remember struggling to push in the alarm light at the top because I did not like it sticking out, and it hurt my thumb a lot. Sadly I liked the body shape of the car so much I played demolition derby with it and basically beat it to shit with a rock for the fun of it, I remember flattening the whole roof and the broken window pieces being stuck in the car, and then just burying it into the sand and throwing it around and into a big rock, and then into a sand again and forgetting it there eventually until said big pile of sand that was at the end of the road was carried away to where-ever it was going, probably to be used in road construction somewhere.

I need help finding a very specific model from a very long time ago.

It was a hot wheels, probably from the mid 80's cause it had those flat chrome wheels with the three grooves in them, the best I can describe the model, it looked like a 60's porsche or ferraria, or ford gt prototype touring car shape with the clam shell opened on the back, and there was a v8 with velocity stacks, it was a light / medium blue, and it had little orange triangle all over it that looked like pizza, or cheese crackers.

I don't get it, what is so special about gta v/online cars?
Even more considering that nowadays models even lost the originality of the OG ones, where yes, you can still easily get what inspired a specific car but still there where some original aesthetic cues mixed together. Today they are just bland knock-offs and that's it.
At least hw fantasy cars (one can like them or not) are something creative, new, special in their own way.

That is nice but it's more a part of the game than something casting related. Although one can relate to his modeling and painting skills for that.
>>8686277
>Have any examples of knockoffs you're referring to?
Wait, what do you mean? All vehicles in gta are knockoffs because the "smoll indy company" doesn't want to waste money on licenses and dealing with manufactures restrictions. Now, this is pretty good for the game since it means more vehicles of any kind are always coming since no limitations about licenses, license>>8686277
period expires and restrictions and prohibitions. That also allows a lot of customizations available (even tho they pander mostly kids).
>cars in GTA are actually interesting, unlike awful unlicensed die-cast
But cars in gta ARE "awful" unlicensed models, why would i want a sentinel classic when we have the m3 e30 or the gauntlet classic when we have the challenger rt or the dinka jester when there is the nsx and so on.
In the end why would i want for mattel to get rockstar license when they can get the official license for a manufacturer and have the original model?
And when it's not possible to get one, just do themselves what rockstar does?(Thinking in this regard at the hyperliner (espace f1) or seven/24 (amemiya rx7) for example)
>>
>>8686400

>Have any examples of knockoffs you're referring to?

You could have just said "no, I actually have no idea what I'm talking about"

>But cars in gta ARE "awful" unlicensed models

That's an opinion, and a shitty one at that.

>why would i want a sentinel classic when we have the m3 e30 or the gauntlet classic when we have the challenger rt or the dinka jester when there is the nsx and so on.

You can't have those licensed cars in a game like GTA. "Hey BMW, can we put your car in our game where players can beat the shit out of it, blow it up, and run over a hooker they just fucked in it it to get their money back?"

>In the end why would i want for mattel to get rockstar license when they can get the official license for a manufacturer and have the original model?

They already have the real car licenses. More options would be ever better. You lose nothing if Mattel gets licenses to Rockstar IP.

>>
>>8686552
Truly based Burnout

Fuck GTA cars
>>
>>8686654
GTA literally takes stock 3d renders of licensed cars, and just changes them enough to get away with it legally. Burnout (and now Dangerous Driving) actually makes up their own cars from scratch, and they look so much better.
>>
Burnout cars are tacky heaps of shit.
>>
>>8686740
Honestly, every unlicensed car model either Burnout or Midnight club or GTA is totally "hit or miss". Some models are freaking cool, some are ugly as sin.
>>
>>8686516
>But cars in gta ARE
unlicensed models
The quotaion marks where there for a reason. Was just quoting you without actually giving an opinon. My bad it was misleading. The point that they just are knockoff still stand as this anon >>8686658 also pointed

>you can't have those licensed cars in GTA because...
>vehicles in gta are knockoffs because the "smoll indy company" doesn't want to waste money on licenses and dealing with manufactures restrictions. Now, this is pretty good for the game since it means more vehicles of any kind are always coming since no limitations about licenses, license period expires and restrictions and prohibitions. That also allows a lot of customizations available (even tho they pander mostly kids).
Yes already stated and didn't say that it was a bad thing, quite the opposite since the liberty it does offer

>They already have the real car licenses. More options would be ever better. You lose nothing if Mattel gets licenses to Rockstar
With more options i would like to chose from many different models, not a single car and 20 versions of it because lol GTA™ special. The fuck, i don't want something like the gran turismo 5 car list with 1000 car and 300 skyline r34, 150 mx5. And yes, you'd lose something, because mattel money for more cars would be redirected to rockstar's pocket and their knockoffs

I have a few. If we're talking about the OLDEST of the old, it might be the Tyre Fryer (Blue car on the right), or the Lotus Super Seven (Orange). Unfortunately, the early Matchbox cars from the early 70s don't have much color variation throughout each year. So to low-ball the idea, these are from ~1972.

Other cars: The Baja Breaker is heavily oxidized, but this is the original '78 paint. This beats the oldest HW which was a yellow Chevy Citation from 1982. The last one is the De Tomasso Pantera from 1975 when it first released.

Normally I'd just say it's an Ebay user using Amazon's auto pricing system that ramps up an item's price to a level no one would try to buy the item until they get it back in stock and the price returns to normal.
But I can't find it anywhere else, including Amazon, and even other AutoArt models after release go from $300 to $600 so I'm guessing they really do want 2.4kUSD for it.

I have huge collection of old 80s-90s diecast. I'm from post-soviet union country so they are mostly chink shits but there are few gems like Majorette or Matchbox, Siku, Corgi and HotWheels too, These were very valuable for a kid growing up behind the Iron Curtain - usually they were gifts from relatives living in the west EU as they were never officially sold there. Hoewver we had huge 15-20 packs sets of various cars.

While there's no problem to track licenced ones, does anyone know producers of chink shit?

I know brands like Pioneer and Sunny but that's it. Note that they are unnamed but still recogniseable enough to tell the model they are based on.

Early Terranos are pretty small. I'm sure the GL vics are maybe 1/63ish but it's close enough for me.

Got my first Boulevard (and my very first Twin Mill) from a local hobby shop.
Wish I could find Alfa-Romeo from the same mix.

Some highlights of a recent haul, Walmart felt like it was mostly the same 10 cars on the pegs, usually fresh every other week. But was able to come out with a Zamac and a random CVS stop pulled a TH at least.

You know you love it

I could never tell if i loved or hated the color scheme of the 1973 Countach from Matchbox
>>
>>8702780
i have the alfa romeo and its a nice car. i really wanted the AE86 from that set but lucky i recently found a AE86 but its a non premuim car which is even better because premium models suck for racing
>>
>>8702780
Nice, I should probably give up on boulevards being in any shop around here and just order one online finally
>>8703215
SIlverado, Bandit and Tankinator, nice, and the rv there yet looks pretty good as well, if only I could stop being salty about le fake middle wheels and actually like it, but I will never stop shitting on mattel for going the cheapo way, especially when matchbox and even majorette has no trouble adding 6 wheels to some mainline cars while Jew wheels jews out
>>8703808
which stands out among regular toy cars, not to mention it's a very oldschool kind of a casting capturing that 90s blocky robot looks. nice chink boobas
>>8704244
I love it, it's got that old school feeling to it where it could be an actual street credible car seen out and about, or a fantasy paint job for toys only, because it applies to both. I miss the times when color and tampo choices were like this, rather than the modern ones where you have clearly toy car stuff and reality stuff, and reality usually is just a race car with much advertisement or le black with a little bit of chrome lines here and there, and fantasy is just a diarrhea of tampos or a humongous cartoon character face on the hood that nobody would slap on their car irl

Bring back the retrofuturism, like a Lambo Centanario Roadster that's painted while with a black dot pattern on it, and then a few triangles of faded yellow and neon turquoise placed semi-randomly here and there in an unsymmetrical setting, and a single bright lime green off-center racing line, and then some text on the side in bright pink, in that swinging 80's disco style font. And gold color ultra hots for the wheels.
>>
Ok everyone, post the best looking car in your collection. For me, it's this one, to me this is a race car done right. Great tampos, not too little or too much of them, nice colors and mostly red and yellow. Perfectly balanced imo
>>
>>8704479
Here's the car that came in close second, I like the purple and pink a lot more, but the hood, top and bed are just too barren. If they had continued what was going on in the sides and applied it sensibly on the top as well, this one would have been the more attractive one, but alas
>>
>>8704479
The only thing that's not so great is the wheels, imagine this with the black wheels that have goodyear on them in yellow

That was refreshing to hear. I have a new appreciation for the wilder colors

I find the circle trucker to be a neat casting overall. Though i think they fucked up the grey treasure hunt in pic related

Not saying I burn coal but that black car looks better than the white one
>>8704689
good old wild oldies
>>8704691
I like it too, but feel like it has yet to come out in a color scheme that does it justice properly. I'm kinda mixed on the th, on the other hand I like it, but on the other hand it's just so bland and mediocre
>>
>>8704667
>>8704669
Dat stingray prototype is dope af. Sweet casting by itself, but this black body and bright red interior is and absolute killer combo.
>>
For all the non-americans, how much are Hotwheels cars where you live? They used to be $1.6 for one but Mattel’s increasing the price to $2 for a car from this year. Feels like I’m being scammed, having to pay double the standard amount.
