New Bee is tiny, even smaller than modern Minibots, are Legend class back, or deluxes are shrinking again?

What are some must have MPs that aren't 400 bucks
>>

Skids and its mold mates.
>>
I’ve been watching Beast Wars what’s the best overall line to collect if I want the characters: kingdom, reissue, original? I don’t really do MP

Small characters are small, instead of inflated to giant size for no reason.

would he qualify as a large Core?
>>
>>10635972
"Muh engineering" means that he's probably going to be deluxe regardless
>>
>>10635962
well I would say Dinobot, but it's only "not 400 bucks" in the sense that I literally cannot find it anywhere except knockoff.
>>
>>10635973
he does have an impressive amount of engineering for a guy so tiny. shame it's so poorly implemented, and used for something nobody wanted in the first place (so much easier to just make the hood and bumper become the shins and feet.) were they bored and wanted a challenge? did someone bet the designer he couldn't make the hood rotate 180 during transformation?
>>
>>10635976
It's so weird they didn't make the bumper feet a thing since that's something G1 style and Animated style. The only logic I see is if they plan for Bee to be retooled into something else but who even matches up with a design like that?
>>
>>10635985
well that and it just looks cooler this way. someone who worked on this probably just didn't care about or know about Bee. he's always looked stupid.
>>
>>10635990
Seems like it's suffering from the same thing Armada Megatron, Laser Prime Skyquake, etc... They changed parts of the transformation (or look) for the sake of it and the toy suffers for it.
>>
>>10635985
I feel like this is the problem with the Animated ones so far is that you have to sacrifice so much of the stylization in order to not only fit into the G1 aesthetic but also to play nice whenever they decide to retool these guys in the future as well
>>
>>10636003
It's still a headscratcher on who that might be, while the bumper feet can easily match up to like a billion other characters easily. Like >>10636000 said, it's just an odd change for change's sake.
>>
>>10636005
Not to mention it's just unnecessary, the Bee body is used by several animated characters so they can get their monies worth with repaints.
>>

>>
>>10636000
What's wrong with Armada Megs's transformation, he's totally accurate I thought? Only thing that springs to mind is the face flap not sliding out but instead folding, but desu I think I prefer that, since the original one had a problem with being loose on some copies and either falling back down or rattling around.

A better comparison would be Legacy Armada Hot Shot. They fucking massacred my boy there, just the same as they did with TFA Bee...
>>
>>10636027
Why don’t we get chrome paint on transformers anymore like with the trans metal figures?
>>
>>10636053
Extra steps that feel pointless when the original was a straight forward:

-Arms out
-Lower face flap
-Untab the legs
-Rotate legs
-Transformers feet

The new one has extra steps for the arms and torso, and you need to move the Turret out of the way for the transformation anf attack mode. Despite those extra steps, the arms don't even lock in place and the arms/legs don't connect properly in vehicle mode (a chunk of torso ends up there, fucking up the tank mode). Then there's the useless detachable turret made of soft plastic, with some copies having it misaligned with the barrel or just falling off easily because the peg hole is too wide.
>>
>>10636061
Forgot to add, they added an extra swivel for the missile launcher (for some reason), but now it can't face forward because they didn't add the clearance for it on the Legacy version.
>>
>>10636060
vacuum metalised plastic is preddy expensive fren
>>
>>10635961
So, around ER Cliffjumper height? With the current prices, he's an easy pass.
>>
Among all of Animated Legacy Bee's issues, the one that bothers me a lot (second to the arms) is the clear plastic. If they had to use it, why didn't they use smokey black? It looks awful with just normal clear plastic.
>>
Damn it.

>"United" is the third chapter of Transformers Legacy, a subline of toys collecting characters from every version of Transformers, that began in 2021 as a followup to the War for Cybertron trilogy. Where most Transformers toy lines just get replaced upon completion, the second year of Legacy's life saw it continue as Legacy: Evolution. United represents the third year of the ongoing series celebrating the Transformers multiverse.
This is for that anon who believes that Legacy continues after Kingdom and should have War For Cybertron and Generations as part of the name.

I use the pyramid rule for squads; never have more bots in larger size classes than you do smaller bots. I typically like 1 leader/voyager, 2 deluxes, 3+ scouts. It doesn't have to be a perfect pyramid, but having like 3 voyagers to one deluxe and one scout would really trigger my autism.

Does anyone else follow certain "regulations" when building squads, or is it just anything goes?

>colour balance matters more in my book
This. I like doing color-matching squads, but what looks best, I think, is squads that all operate from a larger shared palette. Not every bot needs to be "in uniform", but there needs to be some color overlap.

The exception to this rule, for me, is white. It's such a bold color that if you have it, I feel it does look best if it's part of the uniform. The little white shoulderpiece on Repugnus in picrel bothers me, but the rest of his colors match well enough that I can overlook it.

The originals have some charm and can have fun action features, but the engineering and accuracy of likeness is better on the new stuff. Watch vintage figure reviews and decide for yourself what you like.
>>
>>10636419
Especially since it got so rarely used in Season 2 fan that fans actually asked show staff "is this to show Optimus's development as a leader and being more capable at fighting decepticons" and the response was "um actually we just never mentioned it in the storyboards so the overseas animators just never drew it"
>>
>>10636407
I think, for actual, original, Animated Optimus, I prefer no plate as the standard. It just fits better with his personality. The Legacy redesign might look better with one, though, I dunno.

>>10636412
>he was seen with it more than his lips

>>
>>10636423
It's probably very tiring trying to remember consistently that Optimus must deploy his mouthplate every time he fights and only does so in cool moments like his final fight with Megatron. Plus Animated Optimus with his mouth got stuck in a lot of people's mind more than with his mouthplate.
>>
I will NOT buy Convobat and Skull. I simply won't do it. A guy like me just ain't gonna do something like that. It wouldn't be wise, I just bought Roadtrap and the Counterforce Pack. I just won't do it. And I shouldnt, sl I wont.

Also, can they make up their fucking minds on whether they want to retain the stylized aspects of Animated or not? Prowl is just straight G1. Bumblebee is G1 everything except his face. And now Prime has the scrunched cab face that absolutely doesn't fit in G1 style. Pick one or the other, Hasbro, you can't do both.

>>
>>10636531
>And now Prime has the scrunched cab face that absolutely doesn't fit in G1 style.
I think it fits with general CHUG style well enough. The redesigns are more about altering specific style hallmarks and proportions than anything else. Really, the only major differences between Legacy Prowl and the original Animated design are the proportions and a bit of the helmet, which is really also just in service of the proportions.

imo, Bulkhead is the only really weird outlier figure here. It almost feels as if his body was intended for something else and they turned him into Bulkhead by giving him a different noggin.
>>
>>10636545
We've been through this about a hundred times: Beast Wars is literally G1. It takes place in the same timeline as the cartoon. The characters physically appear onscreen alongside each other.

>>
>>10636636
I would love to see that post because that is the most ridiculous excuse for not getting the new Armada Optimus which is a great toy. Also reminds me of a guy called rikkomba on that site, impressive Armada collection but gave Legacy Armada Optimus a glowing review of 6/10. Why? Because and I quote:
>The cab looks great by itself and when pulling the trailer; the robot mode and super robot mode are quite good. Unfortunately, Armada Optimus Prime IS Superbase Optimus Prime, and this trailer is a complete disaster - an insult to Armada and the Unicron Trilogy as a whole.
I guess this is what we could call a geeuan-gied Armada OP... the problem is that even Powermaster Optimus Prime and G1 Ultra Magnus have better base modes than this thing.
I don't want to turn this thread into shitting on TFW2005 people's shit taste but come on, there was no way you were going to get the old base mode and somehow give the legs actual articulation. Nothing is perfect, accept compromises and look at the bigger picture instead.
>>
>>10636648
that's only because on the animation model, the bumper extends for the entire length of the cab. The wheels are, proportionally, still in the same place.

That shit taxes your brain and devolves you into a rambling idiot as time goes on.

In that case anon pick a sub-collection to go for, rather than casting a wide net onto everything that you missed over the last 20 years. Easiest is to go for modern versions of the G1 guys if that's your thing, there's never been a better time for it. Alternatively, BW guys or a set of movie figures, whichever thing grabs your interest the hardest.

I kind of am, that subcollection being "updates of figures I had as a kid" and "universal monsters" (of which I have Draculus and Franky is ordered) more or less. Hence why I have Blitzwing with Crosshairs and Battletrap on the way. I nabbed a Snapdragon for a good deal and and now a Sideswipe and the WFC Slamdance coming, and those are ones I always wanted as a kid. As for Battletrap, all I had as a kid was the Heoi part. So I just had this shitty springloaded Helicoptor that became a head... so I had unfinished business.

It's satisfying to update your familiar childhood collection with new modern toys, you'll enjoy Battletrap he's cool. Over the years I've settled into collecting basically the entire Cybertronian race from G1, I don't really have an endpoint where I think "I'll have them all and can stop". Life's the journey, not the destination.

Seeing as he'pl not only have 2 halves but actual articulation, actual transformation, and 2 bot modes as well, he was a no brainer the second I saw him. I wish Skytread/Flywheels/Slamdance got the sake treatment but still the update on them is awesome too.

>>
>>10636848
Well we know theres a Motormaster repaint coming
Plus any Gen Selects repaints
Plus between Prime, Bee, Prowl, and Bulkhead that's enough for Pulse or Buzzworthy to do a multipack
Plus Takara has been firing up their own side of things again

So I reckon theres a good chance to see some alt version
Besides, even if *none* of that happens Prime is still a wave 1 voyager so you will still be able to find him on shelves in a year
>>
>>10636856
Now that I can agree on, because despite it being the Legacy Trilogy, Evolution and United are treated as a continuous wave rather than it's own chapter like what was done with the WfC Trilogy, so technically toys from Evolution and United are still treated as Legacy toys in the same way as those from the Legacy line itself.

I think that has to do with Legacy not having any tie-in media
>>
>>10636884
A blessing in disguise since apparently F.J Desanto proposed the idea to make a Legacy tie in Netflix show by making the plot a Secret Wars type story, where Transformers from different universes are transported into the War For Cybertron Netflix universe and are subsequently reformatted into 'G1 bodies'. Intriguing, but I don't trust anything F.J Desanto does and Hasbro should find a better showrunner if they ever go back to doing that.
>>
>>10636262
Huh. I had to go back to look at the source material for this one because the hidden front wheels looked weird. So it turns out they drew him this way _alot_ early on when they couldn't decide if he was supposed to be a truck cab or a short firetruck. It doesn't look too out of place with the rest of a fire truck attached. But then once they dropped that, those wheels shifted forward, like the toy that had to be able to balance regardless of what the animators did.
>>
>>10636895
That always seemed to be the implied story they'd make vague reference to during presentations
>>
Why'd they make his thighs black? It's not doing him any favors making him look more like an Evergreen Bee. He'd probably look a lot better just with yellow thighs honestly. Also:

>Clear torso
was it really worth making the windows see-through for this

Prime looks really good though.
>>
>>10636292
>>10636294
Feel like I'm in the minority for actually pretty well liking this guy, at least a lot more than the Earthrise CliffBee mold. He doesn't quite capture Animated Bee but he does give off a sorta neo-G1 vibe similar to Classics which I dig and he looks posable and fun to transform. Really wish he just had painted black windows like Prime though, the clear plastic just doesn't look good.
>>
>>10636904
I believe F.J Desanto took that concept of characters coming from different universes all into one world and tried to model it after Marvel's Secret Wars story. Because otherwise a straight Isekai crossover would've worked as well but that may have been considered too simple by Desanto's standards and want's something more conspiracy. I don't know exactly what he thinks but that seems to be the logical thought process.

>>10636911
Secret Wars was never a particularly complicated, or overly well written, story to begin with.
It's already a toy commercial so blatantly ripping it off with another franchise should work a peach
>>
>>10636868
Motormaster, forgot about that. If that's true, then we might have lost out on a potential standalone voyager release with the mask, since Hasbro typically only has one alt head on a mold, so a mask might only appear on a potential retool or release with additions (Jetwing or Powermaster).
>>
>>10636925
>A smoky plastic instead of crystal clear would have gone a long way
Definitely would be an improvement, but I really think replacing it with more yellow plastic and painting the windows would be for the best. Like what purpose do see-through windows even serve on such a little guy? It's not like there's any cool techno-details that hidden back there. As an added bonus it's probably make the boosters look better/more show accurate since they seem to be on the same sprue as the chest and windows and they were mostly yellow in the show

Model kits might make a good one of her for the robot at least but I get ya, don't think any of us expected the SS to just straight up reuse everything from the mainline outside of the torso with some minor retooling, and it's not worth it when the backpack looks worse as a result. Kinda sucks too if you're in the camp like me who loves the mainline one, because most add on kits that would attempt her wings are probably going to favor the SS which aren't going to be compatible.

Ah well... at least I can say the colors are nicer now. Though man, the shins are already flaking since they make contact with the sides of the car during transformation. Might end up scraping off the paint I applied to the front of the shins for that.

Also, the lack of grappling hooks or a fire extinguisher is sad.
I'm glad it's a marked step in the right direction, but still not enough for what I want. I guess I can just hope that 2025 will get even more accurate figures... but in the meanwhile, I'll stick with my old Voyager plus the deluxe's axe. Siege Optimus is a solid figure. Both modes look cool, he has good articulation, and the transformation is fun and satisfying. My only complaint is his accessories don't look that great.
>>
>>10637191
Mp-01 Optimus Prime. It's transformation is fairly simple and it looks good in both modes. It comes with a megatron Walther PK, his signature rifle, and an energy axe you can attach to either arm. He has a matrix of leadership in his chest and you can press a button on his shoulder to let it light your darkest hour. Also has some panels in the forearms that flip open with stickers that represent a video communication screen with one character on each arm. You can also press a button on his head that causes his faceplate to move as if he is talking. It has diecast in the legs which is beneficial in stability, but hinders your ability to do dynamic kicking poses if that's your thing. Overall it's at least a 9/10 figure. I still love mine even though the leg on mine is damaged in a way that repair led to being unable to transform it anymore.

Honorable mention: the Legends scale one they released a few years ago. It's engineering is pretty good for it's scale and price point.

Alternatively Blastoff could be updated to be an X-37, that drone minishuttle the US has had for like 15 years. That'd give him something to do, observe the battlefield from orbit and give up to date intel on enemy positions while remaining safely away from all the Autobots but Cosmos.

and by the time they figured out it was just a blip and gas prices went back down, it was too late and a ton of grocery delivery companies went under and the hiked bus prices remained. nice job.
>>
>>10637743
I mean, it's not exactly a "fake" fuel crisis
the reality is there's a bunch of variables, and several players can tank it at will. So there's a lot of speculation, and fear, which drives prices up.
Then you occasionally get a guy as president who just calls up saudi arabia and says "Can you stop that" and they listen

but that's like once every 30 years

Because of various advances, there's less volatility in the market now, prices are just not great

Hard to tell if those wheels are pinned or just clipped, but there's been too much of that going on, too. We're really sliding back again, despite toys being more expensive than ever. They couldn't even spare some black paint for the feet?

I wonder, given how popular Animated was in Japan, if we could expect Takara releases for these guys. Bumblebee's far from perfect, but personally my biggest issue is that his plastic looks like shit.

the saddest part is that the front of the car ended up as his heels. so its not even that they missed, they were extremely close to having it in the right spot but didnt. Im sure if they just went for one more engineering attempt they wouldve gotten that part right.
>>
>>10638075
>One of the things I'm quite enjoying about modern Transformers is they seem to have standardized weapon ports
Weapon ports started to get standardized around Combiner Wars time; things like c-clips or proprietary ports were mostly phased out in favor of 5mm ports. Recently it feels like we're actually getting back to some bots having their own unique clips for the sake of storage, but yeah, 5mm is still the rule, more often than not.

Is that Studio Series? I told myself I'd buy him or even the orange G2 version if I ever saw them, but I never did, sadly. Part of me wants to get the old United one, but at that rate I think I'd actually rather have Ricochet/Stepper, who is upward of 100 bucks now. So yeah.

It's a consistent issue with me. Distribution is always garbage in my region and I never see anything, so I start to think to myself that if I'm gonna pay absurd late taxes on stuff, I may as well go the extra mile and pay even more for something older that's a semi-grail.

>I get you on not wanting to pay late tax for something so old.
Actually I was saying I'd prefer to pay late tax on something super old and relatively more rare than on something that I SHOULD have seen on shelves just a couple of years ago. Like if I'm gonna pay double MSRP for a figure from 2021, I may as well pay quintuple MSRP for something I've had my eye on for over 10 years.
>>
>>10638223
Fair enough, yeah if you're dropping $50+ on something deluxe scale then it can at least be something old/rare, spending a few more for RtS Ricochet instead of Jazz is reasonable then.

Really? I've actually heard a lot of people say they still like him. Obviously he's not accurate worth a shit, but I think time has proven that accurate Ironhides are more trouble than they're worth. For the concept of "burly red non-car guy who serves under Optimus" I thought it was solid take with a really cool truck mode because we hardly ever get standard pickup trucks. I almost bought this mold as blue Breakdown on more than one occassion.

Botcon 'Timelines' Weirdwolf showed up today! Normally, he came with Alpha Trion (repainted from Cybertron Vector Prime), but this one was being sold separately (but was still new and unopened in his original baggy). Weirdwolf himself is a redeco of Cybertron Fang Wolf (or 'Snarl' in the English version), and thus looks a bit more organic than his original toy or his Titans Returns version. Like Fangwolf, he has a Cyber Key-activated play feature - his wolf jaws open, revealing clear orange fangs; the feature can be used in both modes, and unlike other figures I have that use a Cyber Key, his doesn't 'lock' into place. As I understand it, this is intentional so that you can make him snap his jaws by pushing the key in and out without resistance, however it is possible to lock his jaws in the open position by rotating the tufts of 'fur' on his cheeks downward. He's also got a unique storage clip for his key on his left thigh (which becomes his right thigh in beast mode), which is pretty convenient.
You'll notice he has a totally different head from both his TR and normal releases - according to the included bio card, this is Weirdwolf post an experimental 'de-Headmaster' experiment, which forcibly unbound him from Monzo. While successful, the procedure made him even weirder by turning him literally schizophrenic; he now talks to his wolf-headed hand as if it were alive and has named it 'Wolfie'.

>>10638294
Here he is next to his Titans Returns version - this guy apparently came out in 2007, while the TR originally released in 2016 (and mine is the 2021 'Retro Headmasters' reissue). His robot mode is slightly taller and far boxier than his newer incarnation, and he lacks a moving waist; while he can move his hips backwards and forwards just fine, they don't really go very far to the sides, so he can't pull off any splits the way the TR version can, either. Neither version of him has any wrist rotation to speak of, which is bizarre because he's a sword wielder in all of his incarnations- while TR has a separate sword and huge cannon, Timelines' gun doubles as a sword by flipping the handle up and turning it around so the blade faces forward. Unlike TR, his gun actually shoots, having a spring-loaded missile. Despite how boxy Timelines Weirdwolf's torso is, I much prefer his proportions - he's less squat, and his head doesn't look so huge (one of my issues with Headmasters in general). Still, TR's torso and cooler looking shoulders (plus the extra articulation from waist rotation and actual hip joints) puts the later mold as the superior version.

Beast mode. His transformation is pretty fun - instead of the standard 'robot mode goes on all fours' transformation scheme usually used for quadrupeds (like his TR version pictured next to him), Weirdwolf is a bit more involved than that - he pretty much turns completely inside-out. His wolf front legs fold out of his torso, his right arm becomes his wolf head (obviously), his left arm becomes the wolf's throat, his lower torso dislocates at a 90 degree angle and conceals his robot head (hence the lack of waist rotation), and his gunblade becomes his tail; his back legs spin around at the knee to finish the transformation. I've been looking for a good Wolf Transformer for ages, and while I now have a few (Beast Wars Wolfang, Beast Machines Quickstrike, and - of course - Titans Returns Weirdwolf), none of them really had satisfying wolf modes, but this guy actually looks like a wolf (while the newer TR one looks fairly awkward, especially around the back legs, and has a head that doesn't look even remotely canine - more like a rhino - and paws that look more like they belong on a bear than a wolf) and he can actually move and pose his legs and tail (sorry, Wolfang - you're cool looking, but you're a brick in beast mode). So the winner for the best Beast Mode here is Timelines Weirdwolf by a decent margin, even if his robot mode is beat out by his TR version; he also wins for having the most unique transformation scheme of the lot.
Either way, I love both my Weirdwolfs (Weirdwolves?), and while I don't really keep my bots in a permanent display (I tend to transform all of them once or twice every few weeks), I think I'll be keeping TR Weirdwolf in Robot mode and Timelines in Beast Mode more often than not. As flawed as the robot mode is, I might still consider grabbing the Fang Wolf/'Snarl' version later - he just looks that cool.

I dislike it as Ironhide but I do love that mold, Offroad is my absolute favorite of the member-replacement bots from CW. Rook is great too but Offroad is stylish as fuck and I welcome him as a new addition to G1.

Yeah, it's funny - one got the robot mode almost perfect (just a little stumpy) but totally messed up the alt mode, while the other got the alt mode right but ended up with a box with no waist for the robot mode. If they ever do another version of this guy (and I doubt they would at this point), I'd like them to find a better compromise between both modes.
...Also, still keeping my fingers crossed for a modern Carnivac. It'll never happen, but I still want another wolf for my growing pack.

How have they not done an Ariel from Elita or Arcee yet? You'd think it'd be obvious. Did they, and I just missed it?

It's just the new way of talking about black people. Whether or not that's because of 1 anon or not is still up in the air.

Oh nice, she looks pretty good. Weird to give those bots guns though, if they'd had guns things might've gone very different right at the start.

they overengineered the shins to show off, resulting in the hood stripe being flipped

i have tackle boxes for my action figures' stuff, since they all tend to have extra hands and heads and shit
transformers tend to very rarely have spare parts and that's mostly because I've gotten several upgrade kits that i didn't use the whole thing of, or that replaced a stock weapon and I don't need both, so I keep those in one of the neat little card-a-board boxes that one of the upgrade kits came in.

T30 and SS86 are universally considered good.
Not gonna bother with whatever new one they make cause we know they will fuck it up
>>
>>10639443
>SS86
it's a hack job taking the only good mold (T30/Legends) above the waist, but then ruining the propotions with newer less sexy hips and legs way too small for the frame
>>
>>10639453
I agree that it's nowhere near as good as the T30 but even then its still decent
>>
>>10639466
any good the SS86 has can be attributed to T30/Legends

T30/Legends is better, but the SS86 one is a perfectly acceptable substitute if you can't get that one.
