Roton is kinda weird when you consider its marketing in media vs what it actually is:

>designed to be played with as a ground vehicle, pushing it around the floor is how you activate the feature
>even the box art portrays it as such, Skeletor uses to to cut grass I guess?

>He was part of cool project that gave us new cool characters...other than him.
That's the difference between creatives inventing new characters to fit into an existing universe and a marketing guy forcing his childhood OC donut steal into the universe because he has no imagination.
Most of the anons in these threads that have come up with characters have been more inventive than Scotty and his Purple Deadpool Mary Sue.
>>

I think that whole project kind of reveals that this fandom as an entity is pretty devoid of imagination or creativity
>do a create a character contest
>actually get some fun ideas submitted like 3 monsters fused into one, or a guy using his head as a flail
>The fandom votes for "Castle Grayskull ..but a person"

It's not just uncreative people making up dull ideas, there's a multitude of people that only want dull ideas when offered a choice
>>
>>10632889
Yeah, I still can't get over the pure ego of it. He just took a drawing he made when he was a kid and as project manager had Mattel actually produce it. They easily could of given that slot to one of the worthy contest runner ups like Ra-Jar or Major Header.

>>10632896
>I think that whole project kind of reveals that this fandom as an entity is pretty devoid of imagination or creativity
What? You must be bitter about something specific not making production, because MOTU fans create all kinds of great customs, original characters and fan art. Just check out the fan sites forums or even insta.

>The fandom votes for "Castle Grayskull ..but a person"
No, anon Scott and a panel of Mattel employees picked the winner, there was was no fandom vote.

I need a MotU sitcom where Skeletor is the main character.
He-Man is that guy from Castle Grayskull he hates, so he's always scheming to take it from the Sorceress.
>>
>>10632914
If Mattel picked that guy that makes sense. They couldn't just pick creative fun idea, they had to pick someone who feels big like he will special enough to deserve victory. It's af if DC comics made top of their best recent characters and picked as a no. 1 Batman Who Laughs aka mashup of their 2 biggest characters.

Oo-Larr
https://thefwoosh.com/2015/04/masters-of-the-universe-classics-feature-oo-larr/
'The last person to be known as “The He-Man” before Prince Adam was born was Oo-Larr of the Jungle Tribe.'
He's He-Man from the original 4 Glut/Alcala "storybook" mini-comics. Scott tried to wedge this in 20 years "before present" with Man-At-Arms being a 20-years-younger Duncan and Skeletor forgetting that he was Keldor when he claims to be an interdimensional demon, but no official source has accepted that since.

Wun-Dar
https://thefwoosh.com/2010/02/first-look-masters-of-the-universe-classics-wun-dar/
100 years before Prince Adam was born. He's in Not-Valhalla in Revelation with no one explaining who he is, but his Origins mini-comic elaborates on the same story.

Vikor
https://thefwoosh.com/2010/12/first-look-masters-of-the-universe-classics-vikor/
The first He-Man after King Grayskull's death. When that was has fluctuated between 500 and 5,000 years before Adam. Castle Grayskull existed in his time and not before. In one telling (Revelation prequel comic), he lived in the Hall of Wisdom and Castle Grayskull's look is an illusion cast to trick villains looking for it.

He-Ro
Treated as a contemporary of King Grayskull since Classics (I think the 2010s DC comic completely ignored his existence, though). The original intent for the 1987 Powers of Grayskull refresh starring He-Ro was that he predated Castle Grayskull, living alongside the Ancients or Elders when the Three Towers stood.

I can't confirm myself because I'm not on Facebook, but apparently Yla Easton has said in an interview for a fan group that she is in talks with Mattel to get figures of Pig-Head's henchmen made.
>>
>>10634469
meh... Pig-Head is really the only villain worth picking up. Really IMHO he's the only character in the entire Sun line worth picking up. Great news for those of you looking to complete the set though, enjoy.

I know Mattel was desperate for some more diversity but they would have been better off designing some new characters themselves rather than digging up this almost completely forgotten off-shoot. They could of easily set up Fuerza-T as an alternate universe which is all the rage and expanded the line by creating some original ethnically diverse characters with cool new designs and gimmicks.
>>
So how bad is Moss-man's distro? Ive been banking on him being like Rise of Evil where everyone has meltdown while it's trickling out, then it's absolutely everywhere. But Moss Man being Walmart and not Target makes me worry that won't be the case.

Just the idea of jumping through the creations hoop once a month is repellent, really really hoping I'm just picturing the worst case scenario though and it's not a drop everything at 10:58 cst and wait for the figures to go live just to sell out by 11:00.
>>
>>10636234
I don't think there is a "good" option, then.
If it's not "one MC drop every month", the alternate is "three figures spaced out over an entire year probably", and I dont think any of us want to have vintage completion drip fed over 4 or 5 years
>>
>>10636112
>Do you think Rotar and Twistoid will have waist articulation? I mean, what's even the point. Their "legs" look all the same under any angle, less room for gimmick and their bodies are too wide to swap with other figs.
I think the bottom piece they spin on will be removable, with a system to attach legs. The designers probably think no one will want them unless they have optional legs like Classics.
>>
>>10636252
>If it's not "one MC drop every month", the alternate is "three figures spaced out over an entire year probably", and I dont think any of us want to have vintage completion drip fed over 4 or 5 years
This. If Sy-Klone, Extendar and Rokkon are the only vintage figures added to Origins next year, that implies something horrible like:

2025: Two Bad, Blast-Attak, Stonedar
2026: Rio Blast, Dragstor, Hurricane Hordak
2027: Saurod, Blade, Gwildor
2028: Modulok, Multi-Bot, Twistoid, Rotar
>>
>>10636317
>The designers probably know they can charge more if they have optional legs like Classics.

Id say this is more likely and accurate
>We got away with charging over $30 for Slither because of the tail, if we include legs, we can jack up the cost even more on Energy Zoids
>>
>>10636326
God, I'd hope at the least that Modulok would come earlier. The torso and maybe some other stuff was already pretooled (see: Frog Monger).

I'm really hoping some vintage stuff will make its way through "fan channels" like BBTS. I dunno, give us some variants or deep cuts that way.
>>
>>10636361
I think Modulok WILL come earlier because I'm convinced that there will be at least a 1year gap between him and Multi Bot. I can't see the two boxes of body parts coming in rapid succession.
>>
>>10636326
What kinda bugs me is how vehicles like Night Stalker might throw this off. I'm not a huge vehicle fan, but like, will they take MC release dates away from figures?
So, like, to compare it to this year's releases of Frog in Jan, He-Skeletor in April, and snakes in Aug and Sept, would next year pull something like Sy-klone in Jan, Stalker in April and the Extendar in Aug? 6 to 8 months between figures because a vehicle snatches a release date in between sounds annoying
>>
>>10636326
God no, drop every month definitely sounds better. Especially if they're still planning to do non-vintage releases too every now and then.

And there is embrarassingly simple solution: subscription for all vintage figures. Or maybe have them made to order like Grizzzlor.

>>

>>
>>10636252
Once a month sounds OK, don't like the $30 price tag I'm assuming will be attached, but if the order window stays at like an hour or so then it's just feels like I'm doing too much. Once again, I'm just thinking of the worst outcomes. I've stuck it out with origins since the ride started so I'd like to be here, with new origins figures, when the ride stops. Just really thinking mattel should partner with say bbts or entertainment earth for these figures.

So I went to Target looking for the GI Joe Classified Series Shadow Tracker, and all they had was a bunch of Tigerforce Dusties that are going to be clearance bin fodder. Surprisingly though I found Whiplash on clearance. I am new to MOTU collecting and only have a couple figures but this guy really stood out to me because I love that classic Orc look he has.

I was curious, is it a MOTU faux pas to use Whiplash as an army builder? They had one more and I was tempted to pick up both but I decided to hold off for now, especially since I was picking up my Target's last Fisto too, and I didn't want to blow all my toy money for the rest of the month on one trip.

Naw, it's fine.
I dunno about how anyone else feels, but I think Whiplash has the most "generic" energy out of all Skeletor's named henchmen...the only one that might possibly give him a run for his money is Ninjor.
>>
>>10647495

I've heard people say Classics heads can fit on Origins neck pegs if you heat them. Is this true?
And if you can fit a Classics head on an Origins body, will it actually be able to move, or will it he too tight? Will the head look out of place on the Origins buck, like sitting too high on the neck or something?

Thinking of doing a kitbash, but if the heads won't fit, it's not worth buying thr Classics I'll need
>>
>>10648286
you can always make it fit with sanding (hole too small) and sticky tack (hole too big).
muh scale will be off. so if you cry about that; you can't really mix and match
>>
>>10648292
If I was going to cry about scale, I wouldn't be asking in the first place.

I'm only concerned with will it fit, will it still be able to turn and articulate if I do make it fit, and will it sit awkwardly on the buck (like, as I said, if it sits too high on the neck)
I don't think Classics heads are that much bigger than Origins heads anyway, and most Origins figures have oversized heads anyway

As much as I'd love to finally own Castle Grayskull after 30 years of not having it, I can't really bring myself to given that the only figures I own right now are 7" scale, and Super 7's Grayskull has been out of produciton for years. Even when it was new $300 would be a hard ask for me.

Am I the only one who doesn't like the new body buck? I think I might be skipping this line entirely.
Actually, I'd really like the Origins I have to be my He-Man figures forever. They seem sturdy enough to last for a long time, and I'd like to grow attached to these guys over the years instead of just buying the new Skeletor and He-Man each year.
>>

>instead of just buying the new Skeletor and He-Man each year
I doubt anybody was planning on this anyway. Personally I find moving actual vintage roster into exclusives and replacing the retail line with toonerbait kind of a dick move but wtf can you do
>>
>>10651054
It's a dick move, I mean, I can see why on matters part they'd do this. But as an ardent origins supporter through the bad and good its like a slap to the hand. I'll give it a chance but I'm afraid mattel just killed my interest.

>I need my toys to look exactly like a poorly animated half hour commercial from the 80s.
It infects nearly every nostalgiabait toyline that had a cartoon in the 80s. It ruined Masterpiece Transformers which used to be a nice blend of cartoon, package art and vintage toy. The animated Turtles line has similar issues with April's disproportionate neck that is cartoon accurate for a fraction of her screen time. Thankfully she's an easy fix.
That said, I do prefer animated Merman's head over the vintage toy. But I think the LOP Origins figure is better than both of them.

I mean, I can't blame people who think Shredder or She-Ra look better in cartoon design.

In the end, the reason Origins releases figures in basically one to one is to satisfy people's nostalgia and to many cartoon is that.
>>
>>10650967
I agree with you. It looks shit. If they had at least continued to use the normal buck, they might have at least gotten me to buy 1 or 2 of the better cartoon OCs (assuming they get made) to flesh out my existing collection. But as is, I won't even buy those now. Even if I didn't hate the new buck and didn't hate the cartoon's aesthetic, I'm not starting over from scratch with a whole new collection.

I wouldn't even hate on this as much if it was just a new subline like they've done previously. Like 1 or 2 Filmation figures paired with a couple regular figures in a wave. Filmation shit is actually WORSE than what most folks try to say Sun Man was. At least his crew only took 1 slot per wave and I could still get the likes of Clawful, Mantenna and Randor during his run. Filmation is taking all fucking slots and getting everything nor pandering to tooners shunted to fucking MC. Not even getting BBTS, EE or Amazon as options anymore.

>>10651054
>but wtf can you do
Stop support of Origins at retail completely. If they're not gonna sell stuff I want at retail, I'm not gonna buy what they do offer.

>>10651113
Yeah, but Mattel Creations online exclusivity is a different beast than BBTS, EE and whatever other shops you can get it from
>>
>>10651306
>>10651384
Such a cutie!
>>10651663
>I can't blame people who think Shredder or She-Ra look better in cartoon design
That's totally reasonable and I agree, but should Shredder have a metallic helmet and armour, or be a flat grey? It was obviously supposed to be a "chrome dome" as the Turtles called him, but due to the limitations of animation at the time it was done with grey ink.
That's my issue with being a slave to the cartoon designs. Like did we really need an Optimus Prime that takes over an hour to transform just so it could be perfectly on model to the cartoon which couldn't even stay on model half the time?
Of course, Super7 do the same sort of thing but are slaves to the toy design and print Shredders eyebrows on his helmet ridge, but at least that is an alternate head and more of an Easter egg than anything.
>>
>>10650128
So is this Filmation Skeletor? I'm trying to decide if I want it or not. I don't really have a proper Origins Skeletor...never did find the "toy face" figure. And I want the opening jaw of that recent figure, but I don't know if they'll repaint it.
>>
I noticed this at the bottom of the Veefriends page, so there's more to come between now and Oct 13.

Granted, it's doesn't just say "product drops", so I don't think it's anything worth getting carried away over, but we could get another figure out of it
>>
>>10640357
Ditto, I didn't do it at the beginning cause I still have the fear of the gitd gimmick being ruined if I put it in water. Though I guess plastic gitd should not have that problem, that only happens to paint in the figure.
>>
>>10651663
>In the end, the reason Origins releases figures in basically one to one is to satisfy people's nostalgia and to many cartoon is that.
Yeah, that's fair. It's not for everyone though, and I suspect Mattel and retailers who are sick of Origins but willing to put the Cartoon Collection on pegs will find the nostalgia well running dry.
Personally the only thing remotely tempting me is the alt faces on that exclusive toon Skeletor.

>>
>>10651671
Funny thing is that I basically predicted those developments. I saw that they were runinng out of minicomic or 200X repaints or Sun-Man guys so I assumed that Filmation will dominate non-vintage part of Origins. I just didn't thought it will mean kicking out vintage to MC.

But in the end, there is one most important question to me: at what rate we'll be getting vintages now. This is decide how I feel about this. Much faster? Much slower? So far we were getting more-less at least 10 per year meaning we should be finishing by end of 2025. But how things will look now?

And yeah, I'm likely done with retail Origins.

>>10651691
Well but as you said, being slave to toy design might be as bad. That's why we have lines like Classics or Masteverse which have more creative freedom and don't just repeat slavishly.
>>
>>10652095
>being slave to toy design might be as bad.
It is. Nobody wants headless Ironhide and Ratchet, or Megatron with his original trigger placement in robot mode. On second thought, maybe I do want well hung Megatron.
But that's why I loved the Masterpiece Transformers from around MP-10. They were the perfect blend of toy, cartoon, and packaging illustration designs with involved Transformations that weren't engineering nightmares. But fans demanded more toon accuracy and ruined it.
I like New Eternia for the same reason. I had most of the vintage figs growing up. I didn't want to collect the exact same thing again, but I've been sucked into Origins because of the Snakemen. Fuck I'm weak willed.
>>
>>10652095
Toy accuracy is a double edged sword.
Buzz-off is more or less toy accurate and he's one of the best figures as a result...
But then Leech is not completely toy accurate (with alt head) and he's also one of the best figures as a result.

But then you reverse that, Kobra Khan (retail without the option of althead) is vintage accurate to the detriment of the figure and he sucks for it because they wouldn't make a necessary update...
And the famous example of wave 1 He-Man sucking by NOT being vintage accurate (where wave 1 Skeletor actually pulled it off)

Well look, they still look really good, and you could get MAA without the moustache, plus the ball and chain from the mace, while Trap-Jaw at least has some interesting features like the Sword of the Ancients and the alt jaw.

I do agree that it'd have been more appropriate for MAA to look more like Paladin. I'm not sure if there are any interesting concepts of Trap-Jaw to draw from.
>>
>>10652487
Cool .... now where are they available for purchase at? I don't see them anywhere.
>>
>>10653090
>I'm not sure if there are any interesting concepts of Trap-Jaw to draw from

Kind of irrelevant if you ask me, because Jitsu doesn't have any interesting concept either but they came up with the cool samurai and mask look.

At this point, I'm pretty sure New Eternia figures spawn from pure laziness.
If the character has a cool concept or at least alternate versions already, we get stiff like Whiplash and the upcoming Tri-klops that has vintage, Filmation and minicomic elements because Mattel doesn't have to put in any additional work thinking about it.
But if a character doesn't have alternate looks and is more or less consistent, we get Zodac and Trap Jaw.
And something like Jitsu just ends up an outlier to remind us they CAN put in independent thought but choose not to

Masters of WWE fans, I have a question for anyone with the second version of Rey Mysterio:
Does the skin tone on his arms match any of the "shirtless" bucks in Origins? I like his gauntlet style and want to use it for a custom, but I need to know if the skin tone will match wave 1 He-Man or wave 9 200x He-Man....or if not either of them, any other male buck

both MAA and Trapjaw feel better suited to the 40th anniversary subline than they do to New Eternia. Like with Mek, they just feel way too samey. Trapjaw is especially egregious considering we just got the incredible revelations version. When I think of a New Eternia Trapjaw I expect some frankensteinian mad doctor/monster fusion in the vein of pic related.
>>
Why it's so quiet? Is still no one who got their hands on CC figures unpacked them? Or at least showed photo of the backcard?

Nice custom Strongarm, I was hoping we'd see some of the filmation characters in origins so I'd be able to pick up some of the animated characters to fit alongside my current collection. Now that they've made a clean brake with the Cartoon line with less detailed sculpts and a new buck I guess anything we see won't look this good or compatible.

Thanks anon, but no that's $160 in Canuck bucks I was just admiring the work and wishing that when we do see characters like Fang Man and Icer they'd look as good as this rather than be completely tooned out.
>>
>>10654572
I'm tempted to pull the trigger, but what's holding me back is that the head and arm seem too dull for Origins.
Like, look at Horde Trooper, Snout Spout, Snake Armor He-Man or Frog Monger...silver in Origins is usually more bright and shiny. This custom looks more like stainless steel or something
>>
>>10653826
Pretty much. Those figures miss the mark completely of New Eternia, hitting a half way mark between Classics and Mondo.

The best NE revamped the look a lot like the initial Skeletor and He-Man, Beastman, Ram-Man Snout Spout and Battle Armor Skeletor. Even Whiplash isn't half bad.

NE is at it's best when it's new looks, not just classics or 200X redone.
>>
Well I did it.
I got my first full-sized He Man.
(I actually got a Mer Man 2 years ago)
I picked up a Savage He Man at TRU for $18.99

Mainly because I want ot take picks of a barbarian dude running around outside. I'm making him some furs and skins to keep warm in the winter out of from some craft supplies.
>>
>>10654625
its hard to pick a favorite NE figure after how spoiled the last wave left us. pretty much everyone got a massive upgrade in that batch. i hope MAA and Trapjaw are just outliers and future NE stuff goes more for experimental concept looks over anything else. If it were upto me NE MAA would probably end up looking like a riot cop version of Strontium Dog.
>>
>>10655023
In the end, there always will be audience for another vintage character. Faker, Mef, Webstor, Two-Bad were all still well received when they came out.

I guess the diffemdx2gsrence is those didn't had Revelation toys.
>>
>>10655227
I really hate Webstor's headsculpt, I would've been fine with the figure otherwise since classic heads seem to fit on Masterverse but the colors are too far off. Although the light piping is a nice touch.

I agree but I really want hasbro to put the retro guys under the 40th banner. For all intents and purposes they're so close being the gijoe classified equivalents of MOTU that they might aswell be advertised as such while New Eternia gives way to something weirder and more experimental.

Just an aside, I wish Keldor boots were more readily accessible in this line.
Keldor himself isn't ideal for buying for fodder because it's bad enough having left over Keldor pieces, but then being stuck with Kronises as well , and the only single carded guys are Monicomic Tri-Klops and Kol Darr, both too expensive to buy solely for fodder
