How are you holding up under the price increases, anons?

Guess I'm shipping this and my Anti Monitor this week. Anyone else get the set yet?
>>
Member when McFarlane used to have it's own generals?

Now this is the last line limping along.
>>
>>10623359
Oh hey thanks for reminding me to cancel that thing
>>
>>10623381
Yeah please do not buy, we want this subline to fail so hard they have to go back to 23 max and no silly card stand.
>>
>>10623373
That's because most of the new lines they have to replace dead lines have been statue lines which aren't /toy/s. Diablo/Blizzard, Movie Maniacs, those football statues. Basically, McFarlane tried articulation but it just didn't sell well enough to make up for the higher cost due to piece count compared to their tried and true format of statues, except in DC and even there it is being stretched to the breaking point it seems given the prices of these collector editions.
>>
>>10623385
Lol not how it works. $30 McFiggies are here to stay. This is Biden America after all, I hope you didn't vote for it.
>>
>>10623410
>Here to stay
Lol no, the line will fail.
>>
>>10623417
Unless the economy takes a turn for the better, I wouldn't expect the price to go back down. Even then, it probably wouldn't anyway.
>>
>>10623421
Doesn't matter, it's a dead line walking.

You can't just expect the existing consumer base to make a $10 jump when all you've done is add a chintzy plastic card-stand. If the line dies, so be it.

I feel bad for people who didn't get in on the first wave and have to put up with one of Todd's hunchbacked Supermen
>>
>>10623621
some anon speculated he is going to be forced into the collectors edition line when he was probably going to be a normal release before

>>10623625
No one actually buys AC1000 Superman for that much, it's just some lunatic reseller that will never get a sale
>>
>>10623627
>he'll be forced into the collector's edition
okay, but when? this year?
>>

They're going to re-run Lobo at the higher price with the selling point being "the paint apps it should have had in the first fucking place", won't they? Because that toy was some Hasbro-tier cost-cutting shit. They continue to make shit no one buys(Shriek Unmasked will forever be a bald white man clogging your clearance aisles, along with solid gold Wonder Woman), more variants of 2 people, no guns for anyone... WB seems clueless on what characters should be made.

Spawn is sort of just a thing that not many people really care about anymore. Outside of MK11 he's a bit forgotten & irrelevant now with his comic being a confusing mess, if you even know it's in print. The line's been "a few classic characters", "more Spawn variations" and "some new guys you don't care about".

As for MK11, what a waste. Half of it being Spawn suit variants. Yay, Joker with barely-mobile shoulders. 1/5 of the actual character roster with most of the big names not getting toys. Most guest characters being Neca licenses.

Doom? Here's your main guy, a repaint, the black character the fans hated, the classic Doomguy but it's the Eternal version instead, a Hasbro pony thing and 1 monster but it's the new monster, not a classic. A licensed so wasted they may as well have let Neca make it.

Most of the other licenses he gets piddle out fast if they got noticed at all. This "character shave to look sideways" shit made a lot of toys off-putting & headed to discount racks. Hell, I can get so many discounted on Amazon what's the point of paying full price?

The main saving grace are Chinese outfits like Maxbird which make stellar capes & accessory packs for a lot of these toys. But like 3rd party TFs you're paying out the ass to beautify retail toys that are underdone, usually at the cost or more of the toy's retail price. Just funny how 2 girls in China working as a small outfit are totally outdoing Todd's own efforts on these toys though, which has to piss him off.
>>
>>10624479
Most likely would use the catwoman mold
>>
>>10624503
They're re releasing lobo with his bike
>>
>>10624503
That's the Maxbird large cape on the throne Spawn, which has no cape attached & is on discount so it's perfect for a new cape. Next to the Batman 2-pack version.

Fair warnin gif you go for the Gunslinger Spawn coat they make- the horse set from Gamestop has the wrist armor glued on. It has to come off to fit the coat on. I htink some releases don't have it glued? I had to heat it excessively to pull those pieces off. At least the shoulders are simple ball joints that pop out.

>>10624545
Figures. I bet the bike is awful tough.
>>
>>10624503
What was wrong with the original Lobo? A few unpainted jeans holes? Much of the paint budget went to the 'bite me fanboys' art on the back
>>
>>10624577
It's more unpainted spots than that, especially the boot armor which they didn't touch at all, also the face & body skin tones rarely match unless you get a lucky copy. His weapon is also shit, nor can you even give him a gun because of the hand shape.

I think the people in charge hate Lobo & only use him occasionally to shut people up. They're mad the femboy version they wanted to push failed to catch on. They can't even do "woke" moments with him(like that one comic where they had him kill some guy who was sexually harassing a woman) without it now feeling forced or enraging people. His Arrowverse appearance was a "whatever" moment. He was in Injustice as a DLC character with no story bearing.
>>
>>10625012
The comic I reference- he crashes on a planet & has to order parts to fix his bike. He stays with a couple who runs a restaurant. The wife keeps getting sexually harassing letters. Lobo gets pissed and promises to kill whoever is sending them. He find out later, it's the planet's postmaster, which he follows through on his promise during an incident where a postal worker he'd been pissing off goes nuts & pulls out a gun, which he also has to deal with.

I bet Dawg won't even be with the bike & the old DC Direct bike was too small, plus it's expensive on the aftermarket.

What's everyone's favorite DC multiverse figure so far this year?
>>
>>10625055
Gladiator Batman, may be the final decently painted comic figure of this line. It seems like they are forced to do paint for the movie figures where needed like Blue Beetle, probably because they have to billboard for the movies so they can't skimp. But tons of skimp on paint this year.

This. It's how Todd's keeping the lights on.
>>
>>10625373
He didnt need to do this before in 2020-2022. Entertainment Earth and BBTS had like a couple DCMV exclusives if any. In 2023 they're getting tons. Something has gone wrong with the line.
>>
>>10625442
It's gotten bigger, you retard.
>>
>>10625447
No, it was huge in 2022, it's gotten smaller compared to 2022, with a bunch of niche collectors only 3000 piece limited figures that are mostly repaints or reuse.
>>
>>10625348
Increased demand. DCMV got very good sales this year (specially compared to Hasbro's ML and BS) which prompted retailers to ask for more merchandise and exclusives. McFarlane
currently doesn't have the capacity to produce all new figures to satisfy the demand, so instead they quickly cobbled together a bunch of repaints and reuses to capitalize on the increased demand in a short time span.

For DCMV:
--Death Metal Wonder Woman
Godlike face, hair and cape sculpt. Good execution of an overall great design despite one major flaw (ankle range).

--Ghost Maker
Perfectly executed figure from a great design; paint everywhere it's needed and the color contrast really stands out. So many opportunities to botch this but they somehow managed to do everything right, even better baggy knee execution than some higher end companies which was surprising.

--SDCC Knightfall Batman
Really the only option for this sculpt if you have to have a more definitive color palette. Also amazing they ended up not overdoing the shading when other figures they've done were over-shaded. Main problem is the elbows' look.

--Az-Bat
Great, stylized take on the design that doesn't just generically reproduce the comic suit; nice lighter blue as well. Also some surprisingly nice articulation for a McFarlane. Main flaw is of course the unpainted claws.
>>
>>10626651
They seem to have chosen the lightest blue shades of Azrael's costume, and I actually really like this decision. It gives him a really interesting look. I don't think I would have been as interested with a darker palette (like the Mafex went with). And while we're speaking of the Mafex, I also really like that McFarlane chose to make the belly white, instead of that weird metallic ice blue. That stands out so much to me and looks bad.
>>
>>10626651
It pisses me off just how good the SDCC Batman looks. I'd actually get it if I could, and I'm very selective with McFiggies. Oh well, guess I'm aticking with the Mafex.
>>
>>10626724
>>10626726
Yeah it's definitely not what I would've done, really not a great idea making it SDCC exclusive. Should've just made that the wide release version and done some more stylized SDCC exclusive version. Or at least give the wide release the darker gray.

Oh shit, I didn't even realize they upped the price. My pre-order still lists at $120 though. $150 is definitely not worth it for the set though.
>>
>>10627632
Yeah they at least honor the price points you get when you order. If they pulled something where they charged old POs the new price they would get shit on pretty hard by everyone.
>>
>>10627632
120 is but 150 isn't? I'd say neither is for 6 copies of batman. What can you even do with them all? There's no 90s movie riddler or mr freeze or poison ivy, etc to pair them with in a display
>>
>>10627719
this, only 2 of those batmen had good movies. I cant believe mcfarlane wasted unique molds on these. Cant wait for variants of the bat nipple costume.
>>
>>10627719
Personally, I wanted a set of movie Batmen like I have a set of movie Spider-Men. As much as I'd prefer imports, I don't see them making Clooney or Kilmer anytime soon. So this set will work for me to go on my Batman shelf. I have a soft spot for Batman Forever and Batman and Robin since I was like 8 years old at the time and loved all the toys.
>>
Finally got this guy and the sculpt is fucking magnificent. McFarlane is at his best when he's allowed to do monstrous or gross shit. I even broke my personal rule not to buy stupid "evil/dark" versions of characters, it actually looks good enough to step over that line.

>>
Todd's in the shitter on licenses because few will even work with him. He's an asshole, he steals credit for the work of others, he's been sued multiple times for his stupidity & every time he opens his mouth he says dumb shit. It's probably a miracle WB will still associate plus that weird Mirrorverse Disney line which they could have given to anyone else. I think anyone goes to Todd as a last resort when rejected by every other company.

The picture I posted with the three turnarounds of the head is not a promo pic, that's the real retail item. So is this. They're not MY pics, but my camera is all fucked so I couldn't do it justice anyway. I can at least confirm the figure looks exactly like this in-hand.

This is my first experience with this body and it's pretty ok, the ab crunch is quite limited but the other joints are all nicely done. Overall I am very pleased with the figure.

White Knight brown batman, how's he look with other batcycles? Is there a Harley or ivy figure that would be a good nemesis to him? Does the style clash with the more realistic designs like Harley's tend to be or the power suit Lex figures?

It's not fully separated on the real suit, but you can see that the scales do form that exact shape and pattern over his shoulders. I think this also helps bulk out his shoulders without sacrificing articulation, now you can fit in a butterfly under there.

I actually like how it's implemented. It looks pretty good to me.

It looks so much better with the blue waves.
Superman and Spidey already have iconic dark versions of their costumes, keeping the blue elements would have made the darker suit twist more personal for Aquaman. Aren't these movie suits all cg anyway? Would have been cool to maybe have a black undersuit and magical armor plates made out of hard Atlantean water or something.
If it's a stealth suit then maybe the armor could refract light and make the wearer invisible.
I dunno, just a plain black diving suit looks boring.

I was hoping you'd dispute that.

Classic costumes or repaint toys total roughly 64.
Detailed (non-repaint) toys total roughly 47.

There's some edge cases on either side that could go either way (Is the Mr Freeze really classic enough? maybe not; does Doomsday v Superman contain reuse/repaint elements including most of Supes, yes but there's "enough" new; do Keaton/Unmasked Keaton and Blue Beetle count as a repaint when they release the same body twice at the same time? Just left them both as unique because who knows).

But there's not enough edge cases to swing the difference, even if you remove the platinum repaints.

This is what this line has become in 2023.
>>
>>10632596
this is so stupid. detailed non-repaints still applies to "classic" looks. i saw 1 and 2 and instantly came to tell you that you're a retard.
>>
>>10632670
No, if it's a classic look then it instantly goes into the red pile and can't be in the blue pile.

That is based on what was contended here:

"Over 50% of the releases this year are classic costumes, repaints and Booster Gold reused 10 times"

So blue could feasibly just be "everything else" for all I care, but typically it includes detailed sculpts, the nonrepaint movie figs, nonrepaint video game figs, the "weird" Earth -3924 figures you guys hate so much and other stuff like that.

Raising prices, SDCC exclusive better versions of general releases like Knightfall, teasing figures like Steel for a year ahead of time, persisting on with the bad ankles and diapers despite people's feedback on how to fix them, 6-7 dollar card stands for "collectors" who have consistently said they don't give a shit about the cards, going back to statues, etc
>>
>>10633321
Do you think Todd is getting overwhelmed with keeping up with movie releases? He has to balance the constant stream of dogshit movies and garbage figures like Dark Flash, Kordax, and Blue Beetle with popular releases like Batman, Batman, and Batman between movie waves. Logically, if Todd were following any kind of production schedule he'd be able to announce figures like Steel a year in advance and people wouldn't be wondering when the actual release will be.
Instead he's announcing weird shit like sketch repaints and double dipping with Jokerized versions.
It seems like he's scrambling from day to day to get product out.
>>
>>10633337
I'm skeptical of that because Todd had forever to design these movie figures. The Flash has been delayed forever, and so was Aquaman and Blue Beetle with it. So he had plenty of time to plan for these figures.

The only thing that could be an issue is them rewriting and altering the movies causing him to have to scrap existing figures and redo them entirely which would be a big disruption.

I remember "King Atlan" being on a leak list, not "King Kordax" and I wonder if that was just a spoilerproofing alternate name or if the movie plot changed. I mean they basically still spoiled the movie anyway by putting up preorders for King Kordax and Dark Flash was similarly a "spoiler" although didn't really matter since the only reason to see The Flash was Keaton and Barry's microwave skills

That's a Hasbro myth from what I've heard because they're trying to act like going pinless justifies their price increases. The only reason it costs more is because they have to make a pinless mold rather than reusing a pinned one.
>>
>>10633284
>Transparent plastic is risky. It's more likely to break.
This is not inherently true. I mean how do you think we get super strong stuff like clear water bottles, riot shields, clear lego bricks, etc. Certain mixes and compositions of clear plastic can be brittle, but the stuff McFarlane uses is not. My guess is these figures are made of PET with soft PVC parts. Both should hold up just fine.

>>10633289
>It can also change color over time.
This is a real concern though. He may yellow over time unless they take measures against it, like mixing in a subtle amount of blue.
>>
>>10633321
what bad ankles? I think I'm pretty happy with the ankles on all of my figures...they work on all axes and due to the way they're constructed, with most of the joint not embedded within the shin, they get excellent up-and-down movement (which many toylines seem to neglect nowadays, and is crucial for deep crouches).
>>
>>10633733
Nta but i have a couple of multiverse figs with complete shit ankles. The worst one I ever got was Zurr en arr batman. Out of the box the ankles are a complete floppy mess. Won't stand up at all on its own to feet at any angle and you can flop them around by moving the figure up and down. Some of my green lanterns have loose ankles too although not as bad but they still cant stand for more than a few seconds. Might just be a QC issue but i collect pretty much all lines of toys western and japanese and i have never had loose ankles on anything to that level where it was barely attached. I have a lot of multiverse toys though so i know i just got unlucky since most sre fine but still.

>>
>>10634001

>>
>>10633994
The ratcheting isn't really of much consequence to me. Most American toys still pander to the lowest common denominator, ie kids, who beat the hell out of their toys. And that made figures floppy real fast, so most companies moved to ratcheting joints. It is what it is at this point. it's not even worth complaining about because virtually everyone here is doing it.

Figures with heavy ratcheted joints can usually be compensated for in other ways. Like if one foot can't sit flat in the pose I want, and the ratchets won't let me adjust it appropriately, I instead adjust the hip (which is not ratcheted, and allows for fine-tuning) or sometimes even the knee too, in order to compensate. It's not ideal, but it works ok.

I will forgive all of Todd's retarded decisions if he digs into the dc direct vault and releases pic related

These things are solid in Targets and Walmarts alongside the other action figures. Do you really think kids are reading the label and going "oh no, this is for an age group above mine, I better not touch it?"

Are those soft capes? That perforated material looks like shit.

You've just dissed hundreds of people

If they have the disclaimer they are for 12+ it actually limits the amount of safety, durability, etc testing they need to do on the toy to sell them in stores
>>
>>10634510
The operative word there being "need." Even assuming that is correct, they still seem to be doing it anyway, perhaps to pre-emptively nip that problem in the bud despite the lack of a regulated need for it, so it's a moot point. You are arguing the letter of the law here while not looking at what they're actually doing

Companies don't spend money unless they have to. They definitely aren't doing all the play testing that younger age group toys have to go through, that is a given. That is how McFarlane only has less than a year turn around time on toys while the larger companies have longer. Some of their accessories are also small enough to be eaten so guaranteed they wouldn't pass lower than 4+ ratings.

Todd's Black Manta is better than Aquaman movie Black Manta (T/F?)

Are the six pack and the Batmobile the only way to get Keaton Bats? Feels like the only one that would have been a sure seller as a single release.

You didn't understand my post. Whether or not McFarlane is actually going through all the necessary safety testing and protocols is irrelevant (he likely isn't). I am saying that whether or not they meant to, they are ALREADY following in the footsteps of the likes of Hasbro by doing these heavy ratcheted joints at all. That was never for collectors or adults, it was a move to combat severe looseness in the early 00s as toys started to get more numerous and fragile joints, and therefore more ways to get floppy. And kids were the prime suspects, since they didn't treat their toys well and were not prepared to be gentle with the more advanced joints.

tl;dr: whether or not he's aware of it, McFarlane is already sort of "child proofing" his toys, at least as far as joint longevity goes. I am not talking about swallowable accessories, that is completely unrelated.

I am not one of the ones saying that there's too much batman
