So yes, I do think they should have just let him do his thing. He had a sparkling track record and he was nearly single-handedly responsible for Konami's meteoric rise to power in that era. Look at what happened when they didn't: they marred what was otherwise an incredible fucking game, soured relations with their biggest star, and for the last 8 years they've been the laughingstock of the industry.Konami was wrong.

It mostly comes down to when you take a step back from any nostalgia associated with the games and take a more critical ear to his overall acting which starts to get weird in MGS3 with odd enunciation in his speech to heavily forced in PW that just makes it unlistenable at times.For the record, I think he's brilliant in 1, 2 and 4. I prefer 1 over 2 but that's mostly because I like the more gruff sound in his voice compared to 2's more smooth tone.Anyway, hope we get some new good MG figures that aren't more Play Arts. A good MGS1 Snake that isn't the PAK or RevoMini would be my knoe.

Hayter had to audition both for that and MGS4. Hideo apparently wanted Kurt Russel IIRC for Snake Eater originally (as he was trying to get contacts in Hollywood). I think he didn't find out about MGSV until it was already in production and he ran into someone at a party who was working on it and they asked why he turned down the role, but it turned out Dave never even knew about it.
