Blenderbros, what’s an efficient workflow for doing raw muscles?
>>10380567Hey those are my burd bubies! Now I'm working on a few parts for BW Inferno, the new toy disappointed me (other than the botmode head), so I got a BW Junker to customize, I designed articulated ant legs and adaptor to use the Kingdom head on the BW original body.Prototypes are already printing.
>>10380788Update on the prototypes, the new articulated legs work fine, but the neck adaptor needs small changes. Now he has a cartoon accurate leg backpack.
Custom folks, I have need of your expertise and wisdom. My S.H.Figuarts Kamen Rider Vice is plagued by an eternally gummy residue on his soft rubber parts, the pink scarf and pink sections of his tail. It seems to be an issue for this figure in particular that Bandai is aware of, saying it is to be expected of soft parts like this. Some have suggested that it is simply plasticizer leaking out of the pink portions, but usually I can wash plasticized bits in warm soapy water and no longer have to worry about the issue. That isn't the case with this figure, as I've washed it multiple times now and the gumminess always returns. Said gumminess has now become more than just a minor annoyance with the discovery that it was causing the sides of his head to stick to the inner scarf and removed some paint when moving the head. I am now looking to try a spray sealer, as the painted black section of the tail is sealed and does not have any issue whatsoever. What sort of quality sealer would you recommend for flexible parts like these? I'll gladly accept any other advice you can offer and thank your for your consideration on the matter.
My Kame House is almost finished. Cardboard box and craft sticks mostly.
Upstairs room and bathroom. Made a thumb nail size Playboy.
Bathroom with glory hole includedNeeds minor details and the ceiling and I should be done.
Downstairs. Made a tv from a broken DS and put some adequate programming for Roshi
Can someone help me out? I want to take the recent Agent Woo torso off and swap it with the retro Jameson's. I want to swap the arms onto the Jameson torso and put the coat on there too. I don't care about the leftovers from JJ so I tried dinking around with him and am just unsure what to do so I won't end up breaking the Woo body. With some effort I finally got the waist taken off of JJ and got an arm partially off. I don't want to wake anyone so I'll use the hair dryer later. So how do I pop the arms out without damaging anything, and how do I pop open Woo's waist without damaging it? To open JJ's I had to pry pretty hard and it left visible damage to the plastic. Since I'll be using Woo's coat a little bit of damage in certain spots is fine but I'd like to mitigate as much as possible. For anyone curious I'm trying to hobble together a James Sunderland. Someone mentioned Woo in the last thread and he came in today. I had retro JJ floating around and his shirt fits James better than Woos does. If I can get the parts swapped around all I'll have to do is paint a head when it finally comes in. Also that's my "Leon" in the OP image. If anyone has an idea on how to fix the hair without it looking worse (from someone who is not a great painter) I'd be happy to hear it.
>>10382592>>10382594looks good man nice work
>>10382663dunking the body in hot water and then prying it open by jamming a razor in the seam and jiggling it until the glue gives out seems like the best bet.
>>10383137Well I tried that out and I guess I ham handed it cause the torso snapped. Not blaming you or anything I just never did it before. I'll make do with the Woo torso. I was also wrong though I doubt it matters that the torso I was using was The Cloaks. I had used his head for something else and put JJ's head on the body.
>>10383254Welp can't say I'm happy with how it turned out. I'm just really bad at painting heads. Especially blonde hair. His green eyes weren't showing up well so I tried brown and those don't look right either. Head looked exactly like James before painting it but now not so much. I guess if I keep trying these little ideas that pop in my head I'll get one good some day? It doesn't help that the head seems a bit big to me but maybe that's cause I'm overall unhappy with it. Seller who I bought it from had it listed as 1/12 though.
Learning to paint on this project has been really fun
>>10383254sorry to hear it went south. do you think you heated up enough? most vids Ive seen discussing torso cracking always put the figure in hot water for 5 to 10 minutes atleast.>>10383487the paint on that head looks really rough but I get the idea of what youre aiming for
>>10383487dude... thin you paints
>>10380587Bumperino
>>10383665Soul
>>10383677Soulless since he's trying to sell them for hundreds, he only cares about the profit
>>10383487Like the other said, massively thin your paint, and that head is definitely way too large for that body. 1/12 is not an exact scale. Many likes that are '1/12' vary in scale. Even within Legends, the MCU based figures like that one, run way smaller than all comic based figures. What head was it? The hair looks really chunky and cartoony compared to the realistically styles body too.
>>10383487Genuinely man your best bet is to just bite the bullet and just break the fig for the parts you need and reassemble. Do it how you feel but regardless somethint needs to happen; if you want to put the Jonah Torso on you’re gonna have to crack it. Thankfully the character you’re making has a jacket so as long as you get the fit correct, you’ve got really nothing to worry about in terms of cleanliness. And for the head, as someone who has been customizing for a a while now, two tips. One, thin your paints. Thin translucent layers will build your finish and make your figure all the smoother and cleaner. It’ll take a while but the results are infinitely better. I would just say get an airbrush that’s not cost-effective than assuming that you’re trying to stay as cheap as possible. Second, find shortcuts any way you can to get the results you want. Have trouble with painting eyes? Buy waterslides of pupils so you just have to paint the white! Suck at painting heads? Just buy a more proper head from the get go. Like it wouldn’t be perfect and it’ll probably be $10, but if you’re looking for results it would be way easier to buy a Peter Parker head and paint it blonde, or a Luke Skywalker head or something. Search around, hasbro has tons of licenses from GI Joe to Power Rangers. You really shouldn’t aim for 1:1, or perfection because that’s gonna cost you up a wall and be unfucking-bearable to work with. Start with tweaks and slowly take more challenges. You’ll get it in due time man; I can wait to see what kind of gorgeous result you’ll end up with and post here. Look around, just search up 1:12 heads or whatever and see what you can find and what works best with your skill level, don’t try to achieve the sun when you’ve got no rocket. You’ll get there one day but you’ve gotta build that foundation
>>10383710Like this Cal Kestis figure; general hair swoop matches fine, pouty lips, so your paint challenge would be to paint, eyebrows, hair, and 5 o’clock shadow. He’s not 1:1 by any means but with some work you can get the general essence of the character. Starting small lets you work your way up.
>>10383710>Second, find shortcuts any way you can to get the results you wantI second this! I'll often buy a head that will work if changing the lip color or something similar, if the hair I want to use will fit on it and I can avoid painting eyes since I suck at it. Ditto with other parts. Even if it means spending a little more for parts for the custom, the less hand painted parts needed, the easier it is and usually the more 'factory made' it'll look
>>10380567If I use a pot to heat up water to separate pieces can I use that pot still to cook if I clean it or is it unsafe?
>>10383782Its unsafe, you shouldn't heat your figures in metal pots anyway, you risk them contacting the metal and melting, the safest way is to have a dedicated plastic container, fill it with hot water and then put your figures in it, that way you don't have to clean neither the water container nor pot.
>>10383625>>10383639>>10383697>>10383710Thanks all. The head was either 3d printed or molded. I couldn't be sure as the outside of it made it look printed, but the thing had a neck and a bottom attached with what looked like some plastic pooled. I appreciate trying to get me to keep trying though. Despite rather hating the results when I look at the things. I've seen people say buy better paints which I wouldn't mind doing if I painted often. It's rare though especially with my lack of skill. I did buy some single shades of Citadel for skin tone, white, black, yellow for blonde attempts. I'm wondering if a really light yellowish brown would be better to use than to try and get the various colors of blonde down right. Out of the heads you suggested though I figure they were just a quick search for examples, I kinda like the face on Luke. Almost spaced out or confused in a way which would fit James. The hair is blonde but not the right style. I wonder if trimming some of his bangs would do? Plus isn't Black Series scaled different than ML? I wonder if it'd be too big, same as the one I ordered. I'll look around for more options though. Funnily enough that was what I was originally going to do. Roam around to find a head that was good enough. I spotted the James one and figured I'd give it a shot. I guess ten bucks isn't a big deal for an attempt. Oh also the Jonah (actually The Cloaks, woops) busted. In my attempt to heat and pop it open the chest piece snapped, but not at the seam. So if I wanted to change bodies I'd have to buy another figure which I could get for cheap but I think I'll hold off on trying that again until I find a better head.
>>10383967Also any tips on painting blonde hair or eyes would be appreciated. I saw a tip saying to paint the eyes white first and then go over the outline with the skin tone. Totally forgot to try that with the James head. Pupils I do my best with a toothpick but my hand shakes too much. I don't even have a shaking problem so I guess it's just a product of trying to work in such a tiny area.
>>10383710And yeah I get too annoyed with subpar outcomes even though it's not something I've done much of. I'm that way in a lot of things so it's nothing new. At least constructive criticism can give me ideas on improving. Like thinning paints I've tried that before and the paint always seems too watery. Then the strokes they leave don't stay together and just become a weird line of tiny droplets. That or the strokes seem really thin and kinda only look right when overlapping. I assume this is what it's meant to do but that seems to lead to clumping anyway. What do?
>>10383710Maybe a blonde Chris Evans Cap or John Walker?
>>10383985Sorry if I'm posting too much about one little project but I decided to look at Cap heads and wanted opinions. I actually think Walker was the highlight of the Falcon show so I wouldn't mind buying his entire figure to get the head. It kinda makes me think of the SH2 remake too. Middle one seems to lean more to the original though. Thoughts?
>>10384008My vote is for the one in the middle
>>10383877I'll be sure to do that next time. But just to be clear even if I wash the pot and there's no sign of plastic I shouldn't use it still?
>>10384027I don't think a corgi head will fit on the body.
>>10384008nuJames has a punchable face. He's so wimpy.
how to make a blade look weathered
>>10383972You can try water slides instead. Painting eyes sucks
>>10384197I think they're trying to make him come off as more depressed. Which could work but my initial reaction to that is in the original game he was sad but he genuinely wasn't sure if his wife could be in Silent Hill. It was a whole part of his dissociative amnesia.
If I wanted to make a kid Jiraiya custom, what's my best choice for a base? The Ultimate Legends kid Naruto?
Thoughts?
>>10385096If you're going for a realistic elephant, the front legs are too long/back legs are too short and the head looks a little disproportionate, not sure if it's too big or too small.Ironically, I think that if you reversed the way the body is connected to the limbs and head the proportions would mostly be fixed.
>>10383710I think after a long while I’ve got you covered on the perfect middle ground head: Marvel Legends Quicksilver. A bit of a shelf warmer so he’s cheap, he’s a generic build for ML so his head size should generally work, he’s got the right hair style and a perfect base coat to start blonde paint, he’s white, and he’s got the same pouty, sad looking features. I think Cal Kestis *might* be a bit closer, but in terms of price and availablity this could work pretty well. I was also thinking maybe Quentin Beck could be a mildly mediocre stand in.
>>10385096>>10385107If your goal is a Paleoloxodon or some type of mammoth (Columbian maybe?) then then the raised shoulders aren’t too egregious. You’d have to flip it around for a Deinotherium or maybe a modern African Elephant though. Biggest hurdle is ‘filling in’ the rear where the Brachiosaurus tail plugs into. If the tail Ian my inserted yet you can 3D print or sculpt/cast a cover with the elephant tail. If it’s already plugged in though, removing it will involve breaking the attachments that keep it in or butchering the dino tail itself to get it out.
>>10385203>tail Ian my inserted*If the tail isn’t insertedFucking fat-fingers…
Made a few generic heads for custom transformers, they're compatible with most deluxe molds.
Posted them on cults: https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/various/generic-female-transformers-heads
>>10385189How would one go about actually painting his hair blonde though? I feel like every time I've tried it just comes out looking awful.
While I wait for the other figure/head I ordered to come in I'd like to try and make this look nicer. I know ideally I'd get the disheveled shirt and swap the arms but I had a lot of trouble with the Cloak body. I do have the Stan Lee body which is the same thing I could try on, but again I'm not sure what exactly I did wrong the first time. This part of the shirt had a tie on it which I pulled out. I filled the hole with some apoxy and then painted it white. Any ideas on how to make it stick out less? Until I decide to try and crack open another body that is.
>>10385264>cloakGoddamn I've said that like 4 times and I meant the Hood body.
>>10385096Very impressive
>>10385264There’s tons of different ways, it all depends on the effect you’re trying to achieve. Like if you want a dirty blonde, base it in a dark brown and do a series of drybrushing lighter and lighter sandy colors on top.If you want a true blonde, paint a sort of Khaki base coat and drybrush with progressively lighter shades of that khaki. Blonde isn’t just straight yellow or brown, it’s a subtle mix between the two that is a bit finicky to achieve. It being a lighter color means it needs a good amount of coats; and it needing a good amount of thin coats especially painted from a darker base means you’ve really gotta take your time. As for the body dude, since I wasn’t there, I can’t tell you what you did. Sincerely, the best piece of advice I or anybody on here can give you is to just watch like 4-6 videos a handful of times and think about what you’re trying to achieve, what specific look you want and find out how you want to do it. The hood is essentially on a civilian body and I can guarantee there’s a handful of videos specifically disassembling that. There’s a handful of videos on painting faces I personally really needed to watch to get even remotely comfortable. Just find what works best for you, experiment and listen to many different perspectives because there’s many different ways for do it. Like for example I hate painting 5 o’clock shadow, typically you stiple it on with a brush of various black and grays and blend it in, or use an airbrush. I felt that took too much time and was too finicky so what I do is sand a pencil of its graphite, and dab that graphite on with a Q Tip. I blend it in, focusing on high and low points so ensure an even color and once I seal it, it’s perfectly fine. I know it’s much easier said than done, especially considering you’ve already spent money on it, but sometimes it’s just worth it to buy a new one, and try again with a slower, more understood approach. You’ve got this!
>>10385626Those are all goof tips. I'd add, check factory figures that have paint details similar to what you're trying to emulate. Go look at several Hasbro/McFarlane figures that have blonde or dirty blonde hair. Check out what base color they have used, what color was dry brushed over top, etc. There are dozens of shades of 'blonde' and many different base colors that can be used to achieve different looks. For making the sculpted spot where the tie was disappear more, that just comes down to better sculpting or painting. You filled in the hole with clay or putty, but didn't sculpt the detail that would be in the front of a collar. It also doesn't look completely flush with the rest of the collar/shirt either. Then the white paint doesn't match exactly so it all comes together making it stick out. Matching paint like that while only painting a small area is next to impossible since you'll likely never get the finish to match exactly, so I'd suggest painting the entire upper chest visible (so down to that ab joint), and the entirety of the shirt that's visible. But sculpting is the bigger issue I'd say.
>>10385953Here was a custom Emma I'd made a little while back. See how there's a sandy/light brown color base, with a more yellow dry brush over top? Also helped that the hair selected was sculpted well and had lots of individuals strands to pick up the dry brush color while still show the base.
>>10383710>>10383967>>10384008There's the unmasked Ronin head from the ML 2-pack with Elektra
>>10386515No. Don't suggest that. It's a super old figure (2009 or so?) when they were all scaled smaller, and that head already looks small on that Ronin body to begin with. Plus the sculpting isn't great, and the sockets were much wider & the peg went up into those old heads much higher so there would be much more modding required to have it sit right on the Hood body
Damn, seeing Petaluma Dolls' custom Action Jenny Dolls make me want to make my own.
So I'm expecting to get a Mafex Aquaman and a custom comic headsculpt. Are there any sockets that I can purchase that work specifically with Mafex so I can actually connect to the neck peg without issue?
Just waiting for pants
>>10388514Forget the pants. Psychologically-scar the demons with human frontal-nudity as you mow them down with your guns. But seriously, looking awesome!
>>10384008>>10383710Well I like how this looks a lot better than this abomination did. >>10383487 Does the head look too big? I can't quite tell.
Question for modders. Is there any way to easy and safely remove pins from Hasbro figures? ML, Joes, Rangers etc.
>>10390203Hot water, you'll find a lot of tutorials on youtube.
>>10389499Maybe a tad but I think it works more than well enough; certainly a passable figure in my eyes! And hey even if it is a bit big, the OG model was a tad disproportionate as well so you can make the argument it’s actually more accurate lol
>>10389499I can't decide if it looks too big either, but if we have to stop and think about it, then it's good enough. I think its the wide torso and super thin arms on that figure that trick your eyes to thinking the proportions are off.
>>10384008At the flea market today I found this dude that kinda reminds me of James, dunno who he is but he's a 2011 Disney character; hope that can help you any.
>>10391356Forgot the pic
>>10390452>>10391250Thanks you both. Yeah the baggy coat with the arms seeming thin because of it may be causing the head to look bigger. The head matches close enough so I'm not torn up by it. The collar isn't great but as of right now it kinda looks like the one corner is bent down exposing some undershirt. So it's good enough until I decide to try cracking open another figure. Not a fan of my hobbled together plank of wood either but it functions well enough until I find something else that fits better. I was wondering if I could use epoxy to make the hanging hair bangs. I think it'd cause more trouble than it's worth to attempt this though. >>10391356>>10391360A little bit yeah. No idea what he's from though. A machete, a satchel, what looks like a gun holster. I'm drawing a blank on what it could be.
>>10391360It’s a Disney parks exclusive Indiana Jones. Prolly to sell with the ride before they got lucasfilms. Yours is missing the hat and base, though.
>>10390203Hot water, and a set of metal pin punches will basically allow you to completely disassemble any arms and legs.
I've got a question
Finally got around to posting a figure on Cults 3D. For those into prehistoric mammals I’ve got for sale a 3D printable action figures of Mesonyx, the wolf-like hoofed predator from the Eocene. Size is roughly the same as GI Joe Classified Timber, and has nearly the same level of articulation (no mid-section articulation and paws are strictly hinges). The whole figure is designed to be done from Sculpteo or other 3D print sites that offer SLS Nylon. The zip file in the download has not only two ready-to-print STL files for SLS Nylon, but every piece of the figure is saved as an individual STL file for those who want to mod their own versions or use as a base for their own custom projects (or at least mod for printing through non-SLS machines). Bear in mind this design is from a year or two ago, so needless to say my designs have gotten better for articulation and sculpts.https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/1-12-scale-mesonyx-action-figure
Pants arrived, waiting on hands and I gotta elastic band the knee pads. Should I add elbow pads?
Cool thread, wish I could help the anons with questions. Why is /toy/ so dead lately?
Cany anyone identify what was used for the neck joints here?
>>10395101looks like an arm with epoxy sculpt.
>>10395101Lots of people modify arms or legs for the structural integrity they offer, like >>10395121 said.
Made a new head for Windblade.
Originals for reference, left was from the japanese release.
How would I go about darkening the skin tone on this head without a full repaint? 40th He-Mans are a lot cheaper than MOTUC Oo-Larr or even the bonus He-Man head it came with & I don't care for all these "fan art redesign" heads they keep giving him.
>>10397302A paint wash is your easiest ber.
>>10397302>>10397309I couldn't get a perfect tone match no matter what I mixed & the skin showing through is affecting t too, but I think it came out a better match than before.
>>10397729maybe with a mix of brown and orange...
>>10398172I used brown, beige, khaki & red for about 15 minutes of experimenting. But it's not like the stock head even matches the body it comes with that well, either.
>>10397103Made her face slimmer and changed its angle, she was looking too cheeky.
>>10397729That came out surprisingly well for color matching a dry brushing on to match the factory plastic
Not mine, but this is impresive as fuck.
It seeks to re use Grooves arms and thighs.
Hope the files get available somewhere.
I have a question. I wanted to get into sculpting, to start making custom figure heads and accessories, and hopefully work up to making full blown figures.I was thinking of sculpting by hand but I'm beginning to wonder, should i just skip hand sculpting and instead try digital scultping? What do you anons think?
>>10407681Completely up to you. Both have their pros and cons. I’d argue digital sculpting is easier but it requires more money since you have to have software, a computer good enough to run it, a 3D printer of some kind, etc. Sculpting by hand just requires $8 of Milliput. I won’t say hand sculpting is more work, since the hardest part is always just sanding stuff, and you have to do that to both resin and clay.
>>10407681>>10407907I used to sculpt by hand and just decided to learn 3d this year, it took me 2 months to have my first head sculpt ready, you just need time and will to learn, you can get blender for free its one of the most popular 3d software, maybe you already have one if your pc has windows 10, search for windows 3d builder, its way more basic than blender but a decent introduction.I learned watching youtube tutorials, there are a ton of them, just focus on sculpt (blender also can do animations, but ignore those tools and tutorials, otherwise you'll get overwhelmed). I'm using 2 "ancient" 6 yr old pcs and they run blender fine, the only pro manual sculpting has is being cheaper at the start, but with digital you can make copies and adjust details without the fear of having to start from scratch each time you fuck your projects, also you can print ton of copies and "recycle" parts to save time (I did 7 heads recycling one face).About printing, there are sites like Craftcloud that can print your files for you if you don't want to deal with the mess thats 3d printing (took me almost 2 months to learn all the kinks of my resin printer).Anyway, good luck!
>>10407907>>10407931It does sound like 3d sculpting has more advantages, i especially like the anons point of how 3d sculpting wouldnt require starting from scratch should fuck ups happen. I appreciate the input anons. I think ultimately im going to do some 3d sculpting but i will try my hand at hand scultping too, to see which works best for me.
Gotta shorten the neck a bit and get the Olivetti styled head I want for it, but I think I'm heading the right way
Made new arms for TR Cerebros, main difference are pop off hands for wrist rotation and gesture options (so far have gripping and pointing) and no hollow gaps on them.Printing the 1st test shot right now.
Got support issues on the fist testshot, still came ok ish, gotta adjust a couple of details tho.
>>10397302>>10397729When I have to match skin tones I am usually juggling a combination of Citadel Cadian Flesh, white, orange, and on rare occasions pink. Cadian Flesh is a pretty dark skintone and it might actually be a good match for He-Man right out of the pot.
>>10409695I should also mention that whatever paint you are using, make sure you are going on in thin watered-down layers and gradually build it up after each layer dries. Never slop on paint right out of the pot / bottle, and never expect it to look right after just one coat.
Anyone have any info or references on ball join design? I'm using Resione M58 which is very tough, even at small scales, so I am sure it will not break like my past attempts. However, it is also not very flexible in anything over 1mm in thickness, so I cannot use simple friction joints like in most model kits, instead I have to make them more mechanical in function and thus more complex. Alternatively, a more rubbery (softer) but still tough resin, which I can dye would be a lifesaver.
Alright, /customs/ time for a shameless plug.I’m in the process of uploading my various SLS Nylon and Multijet Fusion joint files to Cults3D for all to buy at just a few bucks for the print files. I encourage any of you with 3D printers and model-editing abilities to make your own versions that work with your printers by tweaking my designs as needed to suit your /customs/ needs. Aside from the one-time charge for the downloads, all I ask is that you show /customs/ progress of your own models. Same goes for any of my other prints I will be selling there (currently just two joint packs and the 1:12 scale mesonyx, but more will be added in time).https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/5mm-joint-variety-packhttps://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/art/6mm-figma-style-ball-joints-8-packEnjoy!
And done! te new arms have swapable hands, rotating wrists, no gaps and optional Cog ports, file is up on cults if anyone is interested :)https://cults3d.com/en/3d-model/game/tr-cerebros-replacement-arm?fbclid=IwAR1QZfBxn0AQMOndh3G2hMqwebD7j6YVu4a2PD5nWpM9HxfI-kjvjxmVGCw>>10410922Thanks for sharing, ball joints are a pain to do, I'm still far from trying organic characters, but your joints will be helpful.
Is changing a blank face to say a more angry or happy expression something that can be done with just paint?
>>10412566Yeah, but you need a ton of practice or talent to get decent results, I 'd say google about water slide decals, how to get them and how to do them, also practice your painting skills
Anyone know if Marvel Legends Chamber’s arms are compatible with MCU Namor’s torso? Also, are there any figures that have jeans tucked into combat boots for the legs that would be compatible with Namor’s torso?
What would be a good base for a custom fusion samus? A fren said the new 2099 from ATSV would work but what other female bod options do I have? I was gonna use the mach 1 thunderbolts head as well.
>>10416097The design’s aesthetics remind me of the Figma Guyver, but those are on the pricey side.
>>10416097Legends Ironheart maybe? Either one? They’d be a little small, maybe. I’d think you could just sculpt over the Dread Figma but that might be an expensive money sink if you screw it up.
>>10416033Bump. I’m thinking MCU Wenwu’s legs could maybe work. What do they look like under the waist sash piece? Anyone have any pics?
>see a figure randomly while browsing around for things>oh that'd make a really easy kitbash Claire Redfield>100+ burgerbucksWhy the hell is this random no name character THAT much money? Even loose she's a retarded price.
>>10418476She won the fan poll for TVC so she was in demand and on top of that Hasbro put her on the best female body they had done for TBS. If you can source some different arms, there is another version that's currently available for preorder that comes with a long coat but the overall body is still the same.

Can anyone point me in the direction of a Figma or SHF that's wearing a leotard or a one piece swimsuit?
>>10419250Figuarts Cammy wears a leotard, but also has arm-gloves and boots. You could always use a Figma archetype she, Figuarts body-Chan, or a hobby base sozai-Chan and just paint the torso to have a leotard. What’s your custom going to be?
>>10419447Popful Mail. You're probably right about just using a nude base, I've been looking around and can't find anything that's as good as I was hoping for
>>10419835Even if there was a figure that had a leotard that had the right base physique, in all likelihood the nude body will be cheaper and easier to obtain still. Keep us updated with your project, interested how you’re gonna do the head with its 90s anime shape.
>>10419890Will do. I don't have the money to start the project right now, I was just looking around for somewhere to start for when I do. But I'll start posting here once I start buying the shit I need for it
Earthspark Twitch is a good toy from a terrible show with a horrible face, so I made her into a female Whirl. Girl-Whirl if you will.Blue is Mr. Color GX Cool White with some alcohol ink mixed in, airbrushed on. Masking was a bit funky in places, so I hid the mess by adding some chipping effects on areas I could see getting battered. That was just Citadel's Iron Warriors.
>>10420093Head is the original with the face cut out and replaced with assorted broken figure junk to detail it and give her a mono-eye. I like how angry she looks.
>>10420095She can transform no problem. The paint seems super tough, which is nice. There's a few spots of red still visible in the joints but as this is meant to be a toy and not a static display model and they're mostly not visible, I'm OK with it.
I've come into posession of a couple 1/18 heads that bear an uncanny resemblance to Ryan Gosling and now I want to try making a custom of The Driver from the movie Drive. Anyone got some suggestions for a figure with a jacket like this that I could paint up? If the jacket is white to start with that's even better but it doesn't have to be. He also usually has it zipped up in the movie so it doesn't need to be a separate piece.
>>10420099Yeah, I don't understand why Hasbro won't go back to the Diaclone/Unicron trilogy design language. Every show since Transformers Prime have looked weird. Also, does anyone know of a good durable silver paint for dry brushing?
hi, im looking for a figure to use as a base for something custom but i dont really know anything about that stuff.it should be>about 11cm tall with head (so 130-135cm in 1/12th scale), could be a little shorter too but not taller if at all possible>small bust size.>decent articulation>ideally it would also have slightly defined muscles (picrel, sketch i did of the ideal body) but that might be too specific.>for the head i have nothing special in mind, a realistic-ish japanese woman face with hime cut would be good thoughi dont mind a lower quality chink bootleg as long as its still posable enough if it means itll be cheaper.tried asking in /wsr/ but no dice, i hope you guys can help me in the right direction
>>10421757Sozai-chan S, Body-chan Sugimori, and Archetype She Next will give you the best results for body type. Check Manadarake and eBay for all three. Sozai-chan can also be found on Hobby Link Japan for $16usd.As for the head, only thing that comes to mind are the TBLeague 1:12 seamless figures, the heads can be bought on eBay separately.

>>10422049nah, just a young lady turned ashigaru
>>10416097Shit the 2099 SV would be a great base actually, try that out. I have tried it in the past with Kamen rider decade. But>He doesn't know about the 3P model kit being madeIf "thirdemissary" gets their fucking shit together, you may not have to bother, but who the hell knows.
>>10421877Neca Biff is too big, it needs to be 1/18.
>>10422348best I could do is point you to pic related. part of an 80 dollar joytoy 3 pack. there are probably some vintage joes you could use too but I dont know if youre after that look.
>>10422512Aliexpress has him for $30. Not a bad price, I'll keep him in mind at least.
>>10421877Nta, but that anon needs a 1:18 scale body, so practically half the size of a Neca Biff.
>>10419835If you have money to shit off you could go with a Muscuto Megami Device bunny suit with the limbs sourced from one of the Chaos and Pretty girls. The chests are on swappable pegs so the breast plate would be easy to add.
>>10420137PoC Storm Shadow maybe? You can remove the lower part of the jacket since it's just a separate piece that attaches over the waist. It's got a few extra details but the collar is popped and it comes in white (or mostly white depending on which version you get). You'd just need to replace the lower arms and dye his legs for the jeans look. There's also a Paris Pursuit version that has a better lower torso that finishes the jacket properly but it's got a more exaggerated collar area but both versions can be nabbed for pretty cheap.
>>10422994Possibly. The off-center sipper annoys me though and overall most of the details aren't quite right other than the popped collar, which would be a good look although I think >>10422512 overall has more on-model details. The problem with that one is that the pockets are wrong, but I could live with that. I do like the idea of starting with a figure that's already white though because that means less joint prep, and lightening a dark piece of plastic is always a pain.
I just got a resin printer and found this calibration test called The Cones of Calibration and got this result. Is it common to have errors in the Success section while also having way too many cones in the Failure section?

How do you determine what figure to use as a base? Kinda wish there was some big database to search through, or that there was some company that manufactured generic figures, like "generic giant scorpion" figure or something
>>10425501I was thinking the same thing not long ago. Make a toy line where there's a bunch of parts you can order from. So say you want to make a Claire Redfield. Like a post I made earlier in the topic a good body I found to do that costs 100+ on the aftermarket. What if I could just order generic female jeans with high boots, a red jacket vest, a black tank top, black fingerless gloved hands? Out of an assortment of various different female parts. It's a cool idea but I wager that doing such a thing would probably more costly than it's worth.
>>10424466Been using a resin printer for almost half a year and never used a "calibration" print, on resin printers you just need to check:-Build plate being correctly leveled.-Build plate being clean for resin to stick to it.-Room/resin temperature not being too low or too high.-Also keep in mind different resins have different curing propierties, try increasing your expossure time 1 or 1.5 seconds.
>>10425666I kinda wish this general had a pastebin or guide document so we can compile cost efficient figures to harvest for sources of parts
Anyone have any leads for kitbashing these guys for a Smash Bros display? Looking for something around 5-inches or so (been looking at MOTU Origins for inspiration). If anyone has any parts they can throw in, I thank you.
>>10426547Richter, too
>>10426547This isn't by any means perfect but it was rather simple. I did use a motu figure as a base, and an alt color Shao Khan mk11 McFarlane for the body armor. The head I didn't like from the motu so I grabbed a random Marvel Legends Thor and swapped it which is why the skin tones don't match. Which bugs me and I may start over again some time. Maybe my haphazard poor attempt can give you ideas to make yours better. If I was starting now I'd look over the normal sized He-Man figures available to try and find one that best looked like Simon instead of trying to head swap. For the Vampire Killer I really wanted to get a cheap jewelry cross to use for it but couldn't find any that were a good size or that I even liked the look of. So I just cut away at He-Mans sword and attached the chain. The spiked ball was a small jewelry piece which worked well enough. For Richter if you don't mind soft goods you could try finding a figure with a bare upper body, white pants lower body, and buy a blue trench coat. Rip the arms off and cut up the bottom and you'd be set.
>>10425672Just be more familiar with all the various toy lines over the years. Many of the hardcore collectors have a vast knowledge of such parts from decades of figures. Ask here and show what you need a base for and I'm sure many will have suggestions. >>10425666This is completely unpractical and would never in a million years be cost effective for the company producing the parts. Do you know how much tooling costs are? Aside from some of the smaller 4" figure companies like Marauder and Boss Fight who basically do exactly that, since they have only a couple main base bodies with the rest being add-on parts, there's not really any other lines doing anything similar.
>>10426891Well yeah that's why I said it's more costly than it's worth. A cool idea that's just impractical.
>>10409695Gotta love the mileage one can get from the raging Aquaman head.
>>10426598This works, I just need it smaller lol. I may just get one of the small Origins He-Man and put larger scale clothes on him. Thanks for the tips. :)

I thought I was going to do a 1/18 Rambo G.I. Joe figure sooner, but my synapses started firing at me about a Classified Series Rambo. Unfortunately I can't find a hollow handle Rambo knife so for now it looks like I'll be sacrificing a little bit of screen accuracy, but hey, a Rambo 3 knife is still a Rambo knife. This is going to be my first custom GI Joe Classified Series figure.I'm hoping the bandolier from the Aquaman that I snatched the meme-head from fits. >>10429689Second attempt used silicone mold putty to keep all but the sleeves white. A minor bit of dye leaked insure the shirt but is faint. Mostly a success I’ll try to use the mold putty to mask off the text area and use black dye. Will update later.
Anyone seen these weird action figure blanks they got on Amazon? Are they any good?
>>10431399I would totally buy one if they made a gal that was extra thick. Would save me from hoping to snag a polyanian.
>>10431399They're bootlegs of the Figuarts blanks.
>>10431399Got 5 but only ended up paying only for 2 because of some mix-up.The male is a-ok. You'll have to do some modifications to increase the range of movement in areas like the pelvis and ankles. The packaging on mine says SHF but pretty sure they're bootlegs because they were on "sale". Nonetheless it's solid, holds its pose, has a bunch of accessories. The female is a whole different story. It's half the size of the male version and incredibly delicate. Has a greater range of movement than the male but everything's just so tiny... it can't weigh more than 30 grams.
>>10431955cant you just use milliput to make them thiccer>>10432075>>10432106That explains why there are so many different bootleg "brands" that are all identical on Amazon. Wonder if I should get one or cough up for a legit figuarts. Which of the bootleg sellers are the best in your experience?

This was posted in the GB thread so I came here to maybe get some ideas. I ordered the Joker Dragon since I think that head is pretty good especially since it has mouth articulation. It won't be accurate, but the gist will be there. I don't mind it being a less cartoony take on the character. I need a body with legs like his though. I want it to be articulated, ideally not too expensive, and if at all possible match Boogey's overall color. Even just matching the Joker Dragons face a little would be good. Mainly because I despise painting the entire body of an action figure. Though fiddling with the dragon head wouldn't be too bad. I was thinking about Covenant Xenomorph from Neca. It's white and while it doesn't have hooved feet they're shaped vaguely like a hoof. There's also one from Hiya toys but it's 4.5 inches. The Boogeyman was all sorts of sizes in each episode he was in but my concern with the small hiya one is that it may be too small. The body doesn't have to be a Xenomorph really. It's just an idea I was thinking about. Too bad there was no albino Gremlin cause one of Neca's Gremlins could have potentially worked too.
Here's my raziel (soul reaver) custom I made from an amazing spiderman movie figure. Not my best work,.and it was done a long time ago. he had a spirit soul reaver sword, but I lost it lol
>>10428398For helpoemer you could try a boss fight studios blank male body as a base, and use the extra heads as face material for his extra faces? But first brush on some nail polish remover to melt the surface to give it a grotesque texture? You could melt the eyes away on the base head to make it look gross,.or smooth it over as it melts to make that eyeless look.Boss fight studios also has a "barbarian" x belt piece that you could use that matches the belt in the art work pretty well.Cross and skirt should be easy enough after that. For mystical beast selkeht you should start with a scorpion toy as a base, then all you need is a matching extra neck and millennium eye for the top, and a generic monster maw for its mouth.I think there is a faceless illusionist mage toy out there, and hes inherently bricky anyways, so it should do.

It’s your health though, so on one hand it’s worth it, and on the other all the water you drink, food you eat, and air you breathe already contains enough plastic to break the blood barrier to your brain so it doesn’t matter anyway. Me personally, I just wear an N95 and use my sink sprayer to try and reduce the plastic dust clouds as much as possible.

>>10432145>Which of the bootleg sellers are the best in your experience?I got mine cause I got tricked by one of those "Only 4 hours left until the offer expires !!!111!!!ONE" ads. Don't remember the site but I ended up asking for my money back cause they didn't ship it after 2 weeks (they also promised 2 weeks delivery btw). Then they said that I should be patient cause it's actually 2 weeks delivery AFTER they've shipped it. I smelled bullshit, asked PayPal for my money back. PayPal gave my money back. Turned out that in the interim they actually did ship it.After PayPal gave me my money back I just bought some from Ebay at the same price. All of them arrived around the same time.I suspect they're a dime a dozen from some Chinese bootleg manufacturer. The sellers are just intermediaries. >>10432773So I decided to try a cheap Neca Neomorph I saw a few days ago. Got here much faster than I expected. Cons:>not hoofed>lankier than original>Boogey didn't have a tail (besides his coat)Pros:>body color matches head well enough>digitigrade style legs>tail to help him stand>Joker dragons neck joint not long or small enoughI ordered a jacket for him which since it's coming from China won't be here for a while. As a kitbash grittier Boogeyman I think it'll look pretty good. I want to either take the hair off and replace it or take it off and paint it. I haven't decided yet but I'm not getting any real ideas for the hair so I'm leaning on just painting what it has. For now I want to know what I can best do to get the head on the body. Disregarding how top heavy he is I would like it to have some articulation. I thought maybe a screw but I don't know how well that would work. Whatcha think? I'll be painting the nails black at some point and I'm also kicking the idea around of using epoxy to turn the xenomorph toes into hooves. Just not sure how well that'd turn out.
>>10437766Bah, the neck joint thing is a con not a pro.
>>10437769You need to dremel that hole to be bigger. Epoxy can help if you mess up and of course for sculpting. I pretty much needed a dremel and epoxy for every custom I made

I'm just about to settle on getting the Figure Rise Wargreymon but it still bothers me that it lacks the top neck joint the Anime Heroes has.Would it be possible to make a functioning balljoint using the plastic from the runners and some Tamiya Cement?
>>10438447My anime heroes Beelzemon is really good. Is AH Wargreymon not good for the price?
>>10439344It's not that. AH Wargreymon is really good for the price.I have minimal, and possibly dumb, issues with both but I think I could fix most of them on the Figure Rise; and I'm having some small issues with my bank accounts so I'm looking into buying one locally in person and then working on fixing it with what I have at hand. That's why I'm asking.
>>10438349This worked but it was a real pain in the ass to get the screw to catch. Had to hold the ball with pliers and go at it with an electric drill. I made the hole a bit too big in the neck area of the body too so had to use some hot glue. The coat I ordered won't be here until June 15th because China, so I tried draping some black cloth I had laying around. I kinda like the look so if the coat I ordered doesn't look right I'll piss with the cloth some more to make it look better. Painted the hair and it came out ok I think. It's sitting there with sticky tack since I'm unsure if I want to try something else or not. As a relatively simple kitbash I'm happy with it.

Is there a trick to shaping green stuff into rectangular cuboids?
>>10440099This is actually pretty cool, man
>>10440217This is just true of all clay stuff, but if you want a specific shape with hard edges, you just need to wait for it to dry and then sand it down.
>>10440217If you have some spare legos you can make a mold with flat-top pieces on the bottom, coat the inside with mold release oil or regular baby powder (for the latter, fill it with the powder and then shake/pour out the loose powder so that only the residual layer covers the walls), then gently pack the greenstuff into the mold with a powdered loose brick top with a flat piece on it (also oiled or powdered) to press into the mold to smooth out the top. Let it cure and then take apart the lego walls, then sad the edges of any mold flash or seams/bubbles.Once your master cube is complete you then need only to make silicone molds of it to refill with green stuff to replicate as many times as you need it.
>>10440120>>10440228Thanks! If I ever find a pumpkin head that looks like Sam Hain from the toon I may fiddle with making a better kitbash of him. >>10380567how do i start getting into making a custom? i have some original characters, was thinking it'd be cool to start with my fallout character who is an ncr ranger. i thought maybe it'd be easiest to start from some other figure but i can't find any figures that fit the "short, brown and pretty" in the face region especially
>>10448812partswaps are the easiest place to start when it comes to customs. you just heat up a handful of figures in warm water and exchange parts between them as you see fit. Id need a ref image of your oc to help you find a decent base.

>>10448910eh, alrightthe scarring is okay, she got that later in her career so it can be ignored unless there's a decent eyepatch option. hair can range as far as blackshe's around 5'4 or a little less, somewhat stocky and strong, though. her hair is variable but generally it should be shoulder length or in a ponytail, with some bangs slightly parted about the same region as shown, dark/black in color. i've already got a hecate rifle from littlearmory to give her once i've got her in armor. if it'd be feasible it'd be great to get the ncr patrol armor under a long coat, but i feel like that's too complex to really look into so the basic ncr vet black armor would be fine. pants would be a little less cowboy, though, a little more like dark/brown slacks, and with military boots. details like a scarf or whatever i could probably cut from other fabric. i suppose the eyes would be easy enough to repaint to blue, and at that point if i figure out that much maybe i could also manage darkening the rings around the eyes. skin color and general face shape is the hard part, i can't find anything like that. i could deal with her not being a little short if i need to, though i'd rather lean into accuracy there too
>>10448927Hell I've personally wanted a six/seven inch NCR ranger figure for a while. At least one that wasn't insanely expensive. Her face kinda reminds me of nuLara Croft, maybe look over figures of her and see if any match close?
>>10448934https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256804760060957.htmlLike this, maybe? Since you want it as a custom maybe it could work. It's likely a KO with the price but again you wouldn't be plunking down a lot for something you're fiddling with.
>>10448937yeah that's actually an okay likeness, a little pale though. but PAK are way larger than the scale i'd be comfortable with. thanks though anon
