Are there any decent transforming VF1J figures that won't break the bank? Feels like there's all fuck all out there that costs less than $100.
>>
>>10284563
The cheapest decent figure you'll find is the Hi-Metal R.
If you specifically want Hikaru's colors you can get one second hand on sites like Mandarake or Ebay.
But if you want just a VF-1J in general the Arad colors from Delta usually hover around that $100 price point.
>>

Mass surface shipping is supposed to be cheaper per kg. Bandai's taking the piss

Oof.
So that's the free floating chest vent thing between the chest and arm, right? It really only connects to the chest via plastic? Bit of an oversight in design, and one that doesn't look well suited to supergluing back together (you'd probably shear it off again).

Is it the new one? You might want to see what you can do about calling in a product replacement for a defective product.

I'm surprised it wasn't directly connected to the chest via metal.
It's a very odd choice, I've never had other diecast figures break like this before so it must be defective.

Got a ditched RD Anime Ez-8 Gundam quite a while ago. Cut off the excess to get symmetry, and enjoying it all the same; maybe a little more for the slightly better play factor. Do have a Ez-8 I was buying off an army builder that sent it in like everyone else for the replacement, so playing around with the idea of converting this down the road; to something I'd never get otherwise.

>>10267726
>>10267736
Around the time the MRDs were coming out, jumped on some 1.5-2k Freedom and Justice RDs as well; and have to agree they definitely do still hold up. Also if you feel like it a safety pin can help shorten mouth 'vents' or lines, molded lines will be there still; but the paint Bandai used to fill them in is pretty easier to remove actually.

>>10280096
Was able to sneak in a preorder for the GP04, but damn; will I likely be a desperate fool if that green Gelgoog Jeager sees production. Also interested in seeing more of that Zaku Gunner(read that designation, but the cannon makes it a Zaku Xamel to me) in the lower middle!

Anyone pick these up, or just general opinions on the Hi Metal R line? Haven't got anything from the line myself, they kinda just look comparable to Metal Builds but with fewer decorative decals, maybe less paint? I've been trying to convince myself to get a cheaper set of figs for Dragonar but the proportions of the HMR figures just hits a perfect balance for me.

How's the original RD Lancelot? Been thinking of grabbing the Lancelot's first design and this is the only one I can find that isn't the model kit.
>>
>>10288533
It’s pretty good, as far as I’m concerned it’s able to pull off everything it needs to. If you can find one for a decent price they did a rerelease with the Float Unit included so you’ll get the full S1 display option (standard release comes with everything but the Float Unit so if you don’t want to spend the extra cash you won’t miss out on the essentials). The left shield on my copy is a little wobbly (it’s secure but the tolerances don’t make it completely snug) but that’s a fixable thing so not a big deal. My only word of warning is to not try swapping out the arm with the Sutherland arm like they advertise in its RD release, I loosened the ball joint on my Lancelot a lot pulling it out and the Sutherland’s arm felt like it was too big for the socket.
>>
>>10288533
>>10288558
im looking for Lancelot too (especially Lancelot Club)
does this mold have yellowing problem?
>>
>>10288564
My Lancelot hasn’t yellowed at all but it’s the aforementioned Float Unit Rerelease so idk if the older releases/remolds have that issue (AFAIK the standard Lancelot is completely identical to the one in the rerelease). The only RD I have with noticeable yellowing was the Laevatein I got last year, and most of the time I don’t even notice unless I’m looking at it right next to my Arbalest.
>>
>>10288530
My only HMRs are of the Dougram sub-line, but I was pretty impressed by their construction and would gladly buy more if they do more combat armors.
I've eyed the Dragonar figs myself but I'm kinda autistic about maintaining scale, and I'm kinda locked into 1/60 and 1/48 thanks to binge-purchasing Macross figs... but yeah if not for that I'd pull the trigger myself.
>>
>>10288530
I have a couple macross ones, the l-Gaim ones, and dougram. Line is a little more premium than RD but it’s definitely not as nice as SOC or metal build. It’s also pretty inconsistent in what “hi-metal” seems to mean; macross stuff is almost devoid of metal other than the essential structural points for transformation, l-gaim uses it cosmetically for the skeletal frame, dougram uses it for all the joints in the way the more expensive lines do. Not sure about dragonar but if I remember correctly it is a retooled version of the SOC so it probably uses it in all the joints too.
>>
>>10288530
My advice: Buy Dragonar 1 now. If you like it you can hunt down the others.
And I bet you'll like it. It looks fantastic and has gotten good reviews. I agree that it's the best a Dragonar figure has looked.
I don't have it, not a Dragonar fan, but if I was, I'd get it in an instant. The Macross HMRs tend be kind of underwhelming, but the Xabungle and Dougram ones are fantastic. And the Dragonar mold is one of the newer ones. I'd expect it to be solid in hand.
>>
>>10288920
The Macross line loses out on true perfect transformation, but if you don't mind that some parts swapping is necessary it makes up for it by sheer lineup of SDFM stuff all at a common scale, up to and including a Destroid Monster.

The HMR Monster lives up to its name from what I've seen, too.
>>
>>10288530
I have Xabungle, Gallier and two Dougrams. It's a fun line, maybe a tad bit too pricy for what you get but they are solid and come with the accessories you want.

Unfortunate seeing 2 and 3 on Ami now and realizing I probably could have gotten all 3 in one package, oh well.

>>10289014
I never actually bothered with any of the HMR valks. Got the Glaug and Regult and Destroids though. Except for the Destroid Defender, they all went floppy loose pretty quickly. Feels like I invested in a really expensive collection of Macross-themed ragdolls. My Xabungle and Dougram HMRs have remained solid. Brockary is especially solid and well-engineered for a bot that only showed up in the last 5 to 10 episodes of the show.
>>

It's Max's 1J colors, as part of the WWM campaign. Essentially a successor to the VF-4G HMR in terms of "I don't care if this isn't even canon, it looks cool so fuck you" mentality.

The only legitimately bad entry is Frontier and even that has some redeeming qualities in the VF designs, everything else is good tier - god tier.
>>
>>10290885
>The only legitimately bad entry is Frontier
Anon, that isn't how you spell Delta.
>>
>>10290887
Delta just ends up boring from episodes 12-18 when it turns into a slog because Satelight wanted it extended from 13 to 26 episodes while Zettai Live is genuninely the best thing that's come out since Zero and a complete love letter to the franchise. Frontier is just a mess from the off that doesn't know what it wants to be trying to force in To-Love Ru-tier "comedy" where it doesn't even remotely work, Alto is an insufferable MC, Sheryl is a skank and Ranka is annoying as fuck. The supporting cast are all completely unlikeable and Klan Klan, the one character that had the potential to be great, was fucking ruined because they had to defy all previously established Meltrandi logic and turn her into a gag character by having her become a tsundere loli while Miclonized. People only give it a pass while writing off Delta because Frontier can't stop wanking off SDF, 7 and Zero as if the writers themselves knew the show was dogshit and wished they were writing anything but that.

>>
>>10290910
If you don't like idols that's one thing but you can't in your right mind say that Walkure or even Sheryl/Ranka have shit singers. Mikumo/Juuna is a fucking powerhouse and it's absolutely insane she was only 15 when Delta came out considering her range.

>>

>The only legitimately bad entry is Frontier
Eh. I'm not sure I even remember the difference between Frontier and Delta. SDFM was good, Plus was good, Zero I thought was okay, M7 was sometimes fun but ultimately forgettable, and the rest is just assorted flotsam with transforming planes and over-enthused carolers.
>>
>>10290904
Delta was awful from the beginning. The antagonists never made any god damn sense. I was promised break dancing mechs, and all I got was treating one of the two co-heroines as shit. I'm not saying Frontier was great, but Delta was the fucking worst. Is it any wonder they haven't made anything new since?
>>
>>10290924
So now you've got 3 people saying "No dude, Delta was bad". You gonna double down?
>>
>>10290937
>Is it any wonder they haven't made anything new since?
There was a movie just last year you retard and the series they announced in 2018 is bound to be coming soon now that they've wrapped up with Walkure and sorted out their bullshit with Harmony Gold.
>>10290938
It's not my fault you all have abhorrent taste, even when discussing Gundam this place loves to wank off the dogshit 90's OVAs, but no I won't double down because this is completely derailing the thread now.
>>
>>10290937
>Is it any wonder they haven't made anything new since?
There's always a huge gap between Macross series that really isn't an indication of anything. 7 ended in 1998 and it was 10 years before Frontier with only 5 episodes of Zero inbetween, then a further 8 years between Frontier and Delta.
>>
>>10290944

While we're on the topic Fukuda mentioned that for the upcoming SEED movie he asked for a transforming version of the Freedom design(no doubt inspired by the Vilkiss in Cross Ange) so we'll probably get another MB freedom in a few years whenever that comes out.

It was likely a mistranslation. The same kanji can mean wing/feather. You can say the regular freedom has "feathers" in a way.

Pretty much bare plastic, but in this case it's not necessarily a bad thing due to the design's swappable bits gimmick and you'll likely be scraping paint off everywhere if it were coated.

BBTS has the hi-metal VF-1S up for order. Price sucks as expected for a lot of their imports, but everyone was saying stuff from the original show was off the table with worldwide macross; looks like it’s not.
>>
>>10301135
BBTS has always had imported Macross stuff and the worldwide license issues mostly got worked out a couple years ago.
>>
>>10301149
They never sold the valkyries from SDFM unless it was a harmony gold approved company. Believe me I would have bought many things from them over the years was it ever an option otherwise because it is much easier to get Bandai stuff from US retailers than dealing with the chinese bots on preorder night.
>>
>>10301135
What's off the table is the ability to directly market SDFM-era straight to the US market due to Robofuckery and the nature of who has what rights and/or license in that specific area.

Everything else, fair game to directly sell.
Also nothing prevents specialty import shenanigans, and on top of that BBTS has a track record for securing webshop exclusive items. But considering they stock Robotech licensed goods I'm guessing they didn't want to fuck around and find out with something high quality like the DX Angelbirds VF-1A or a Yamcadia VF-1 of some sort, yknow?

Sell me on the Hi-Metal R anons. I want that VF-0D Shin and I have only experienced the DX Chogokin line. I know it's half the size and it's technically non-scale but is its scale close enough to 1/144 or what?
>>
>>10302202
I think HMRs are closer to 1/100?
If you have any RDs they're basically that height.
I think they're really solid figures for their size and price.
The VF-1 and VF-4 were wonderful.
HMRs also have more streamlined transformations than the DX line.
>>
>>10302274
Good, love the DX Chogokin line but I need a little something smaller to scale and diorama-ize with my other figures of similar height and scale. It will do.
>>
>>10302202
Worst thing you lose out on is perfect transformation.
Also the DX VF-1 does actually share a bit with the HMR as they both uniquely go with the show-accurate sliding rail method of getting the arms clear from the legs as opposed to the Yamcadia pivot.

They showed up about half an hour before I left for work so just had time for first impression and a quick pic. I definitely like them, articulation is good and lots of hand options. Some anons stated that not every HMR has metal and that seems to be true here, or very little. I think Dragonar 2 has some in the feet, and 3 has some in the feet and hips, but very little. Mostly unpainted plastic. Honestly they just feel like upscaled Robot Spirits with some extra features that the size makes easier, like opening panels to see the unpainted grey guts. Even getting them a bit cheaper than retail the p-bandai tax shows with getting a solid figure at not a great value. 150ish usd each for these probably isn't worth it. I did manage to snag a Dragonar 1 for 13k shipped which feels like an appropriate price for what I'm seeing here. I'll keep an eye on the line for some stuff but I think its something to be very choosy with. I like the toys but definitely glad I used a bit of my yearly bonus to pay for them instead of using my regular toy budget.

When you see your toys walking around and picking up dust, give them a little smack on the nose or spray they with a water bottle. They'll get the hint and cut that shit out.

Metal Build Strike Rogue! Includes a matching Aile Striker, but the main draw for me was the Grand Slam. Big swords are rad! Plus, in lieu of the Aile Striker, you can attach an RX-78-esque backpack which creates hardpoints to connect accessories and plug in the beam sabers.

Just pre-ordered mine today too, hoo wee.

I hope I don't regret not buying one.
I didn't go for it because it's huge.

Too lazy to get a two-handed pose on the Grand Slam... Still, a neat MB, the diecast works really well with Strike's design. I also got the I.W.S.P pack in so I'll have to eventually try it out with Rouge.

In terms of standard releases, this one's my favorite! It's a great Zaku design and I love all the different display options. Tied for second would be the 08th MS Team and 0083 Zakus. For exclusives, I think Desert Zaku is gonna be my favorite.

Man, the G-3 is a sharp looking variant. Planning to pick up the Rollout Colors ver? The white/silver with red trim is really doing it for me, haha.

>>10312296
Nice timing! I checked the page like two days ago and there was no mention of an order close date; maybe your order was the one that hit the quota they were aiming for!

>>10312301
The hugeness is part of the reason I ordered it simply because you'll never beat the $10 flat rate shipping, haha. But seriously, if space is a concern then you definitely did the right thing by passing on it! I really ought to have passed as I don't have a proper place to display it at all, but I guess that's something I can work on for the next 6 months or so, heh.
>>
>>10312290
Im always scared of wearing out the backpack connectors on the strike since there are so much fucking pcks that you want to mess with.

I ordered two and I've been doing research into a lot of different display cases. I'm really bothered that the listing only includes an approximate length and no mention of full width or height either, so I'm looking at cases with adjustable shelving. I found one that's 48 inches wide, the shelves are 12 inches deep with the case as a whole being 18 inches deep, and adjustable height shelves. I feel like it should be fine, so yeah, 6 months to find one in-stock and save up the money for such a fancy case haha

Hey do we have any info about when the fixed EZ-8s are going out? I feel like it's been a long time.

Yeah. KOs have improved quite dramatically over the years. I'd wholeheartedly recommend the stuff from metal gear/mc/steel legend. Quality is basically on par with official MBs (imo) except for a few softer details here and there. Literally nothing you'd notice unless putting it under a microscope.

Meh, gonna wait for mid-mid-season upgrade. Or the inevitable final battle ver.
>>
>>10317451
Need to wait and see obviously but I think it might be that Rebuild isn't gonna stick around long and that there's a more finalised upgrade form after it.
>>
>>10299047
Added one more to the collection
>>
>>10317626
That's what I thought too.
The additions are way too minor for it to be her final suit.
Similar to the Barbatos and it's forms in S1.

And while we're on it I kinda dislike how in the 10s we stopped getting new MS for mid-season upgrades.
Instead they just give us marginal upgrades that slightly alter the design of the MC's suit.
G-Self just got a new backpack, all the build series Gundams are just slight modifications, the barbatos is the same, and now in G-Witch we have the Aerial doing it too.

I like it better when the mid-season upgrade is a completely new MS. Because that way we get a completely new design.
The last Gundam tv show to do that was AGE with Kio jumping from the AGE-3 to AGE-FX.
>>
>>10319880
I dunno about the build shows but at least for IBO it kinda made sense for Barbatos to just get modified more as the show went on rather than get outright replaced, probably one of the few things that show got right. For G-Witch though they've been making a big point out of having multiple designers for each factions suits and Guel's already had a couple of big upgrades so I'll be really surprised if Aerial Rebuild is the final form. Saying that though I think it'll depend on how the story plays out and if the theories about Aerial being Eri in some way are true, I can't see Aerial being outright replaced either if that turns out to be the case.
>>
>>10319662
Nice! Is that a real marking Char's Zaku?
>>
>>10319899
They'll probably do something like 00 where the part that contains Eri is moved into whatever new MS Suletta gets, like with the 00 retaining the Exia and 0's GN drives.
>>
>>10319880
>And while we're on it I kinda dislike how in the 10s we stopped getting new MS for mid-season upgrades.
You are my kind of anon, anon. I, too, share this sentiment since it means that we can't ever get the starter suit passed down to another character, upgraded, or a 00 like scenario where the MC "downgrades" for the final fight.
I like how a completely new suit usually accompanies a huge leap in tech or power to "sell" the new design.
>>
>>10320127
>00 like scenario where the MC "downgrades" for the final fight.
I still remember people going apeshit about it during airing. It was great.
>>
Has anyone ordered from USA Gundam Store?
They have the Devise Exia for $200 and also have a 10% coupon.
>>
>>10320190
Yes I and other anons bought from them before. Gundamplanet/USAgundam/newtype are legit.

>or a 00 like scenario where the MC "downgrades" for the final fight.
That is still the coolest shit I've seen in a mecha anime finale.
I don't think any other show has ever even done that. The only thing that comes close is in Gurren Lagann when Simon uses all the forms down to his own body, but that isn't really the same thing.

>>10320190
>>10320195
I was shocked at how cheap theirs was, I hope they get more MBs in the future. I also ordered their Exia a while back.
>>
>>10320285
Permet version?
>>
>>10320462
A few other shows do it, but its not always against the final boss. Car Ranger had the caset lose the VRV Robo fighting the final boss and had to go back to the RV Robo (which got trashed).

L-Gaim has the protagonist switch back to the L-Gaim for the remainder of the last episode.
>>
>>10320838
Oh yeah I forgot L-Gaim did it too.
I guess it didn't have the same impact on me because Amu was still using it after he gets the Mk.II.
I think not seeing the Exia for a whole season and than just randomly having it pop back up made the scene feel more impactful.
>>
>>10320462
>I was shocked at how cheap theirs was, I hope they get more MBs in the future. I also ordered their Exia a while back.
It's mainly for general release. Bandai fucking hates doing gen release nowadays.

Not anime but the final episode of Kamen Rider Zero One has the main character abandon his upgrade forms and use a restored version of his basic suit.
>>
>>10319880
I'm personally fine with just marginally upgrading the MC's MS as long as there's a gimmick to the MS that is retained. For example, while I like the Freedom Gundam design, I really didn't like that the Strike Gundam and to an extent its Striker Pack system was pretty much thrown to the background and to major characters. Sure, as mentioned there are a lot of major characters like Mu La Flaga who uses Striker compatible MS and the system itself is still used all the way through Destiny as well but it would've been more developed if the protagonist Kira kept it since he is the MC and thus hogs most of the attention. I really like the idea of an early generation mech being able to keep up with newer models thanks to its multi-role interchangeable system that allows limitless support well into its future.

If it was a general purpose MS like the AGE-3 or Aerial foe example then yeah I would like to see an entirely new MS as an upgrade.
>>
>>10319662
Been searching for this a while for a decent price. The fact he only comes with one bazooka is pretty scummy of Bandai.
>>
>>10319880
It's all part of Bandai's marketing strategy to make you buy multiple versions of the same suit. Cheaper for them to make partial upgrades rather than having to create an entirely new mold.
>>
>>10319880
I hear what you're saying, but I think I was only bothered by it with Barbatos and having 6 fucking forms in S1. No one wants to buy 6 toys, or just 3 or 4 for the different major armor variations. However Barbatos to Lupus was enough of a change that even with it being the same frame, I was satisfied. Though I would probably lump Freedom to Strike Feedom in there too, but I don't know if there was a lot of parts reuse or if stuff was slightly different, the gold frame is the only thing that comes to mind. Aerial Rebuild I'm fine with though. There's no parts re-use in the kit, the shield bits are upgraded to form the gun. It's very similar, yeah, but Aerial to Aerial Rebuild is completely different to what Barbatos did in S1. Maybe I'm just okay with it because I like Rebuild better though, so who knows.

The Strike Freedom and Freedom are completely different, the changes aren't too obvious aside from the gold, the sideskirts, and dragoons. But the whole suit has different.
>>
>>10321651
Ah okay, so like the Aerial to Aerial Rebuild. Totally new and different, just very similar silhouette and some different coloring. It's been a long time since I watched Destiny and I'm not a particular fan of the gold on the SF, so I don't spend a lot of time looking at for kits and figures.
>>
>>10322680
Not entirely similar, the Aerial Rebuild still has the original Aerial at its core, it's just upgraded.
The Freedom and Strike Freedom were two completely different units.
>>
>>10322711
Ah you meant in the series, I thought you just meant the appearance.

Tell me, how was the gff mc wing gundam and its variants in terms of qc?

I liked the origin zaku, gundam and 2 psyco gundams but it's been a long time since I bought from the line and after the hi nu gundam from the metal build line im a bit wary

>it's not worth the price

I'm screwed either way due to minimal channels to get it, but I have the money, but the qc tolerance is my main concern

It's really nice. detail placement is consistent. Only complaint is mounting. Gotta take off the crotch, it slides out, and push it in pretty good. Happy collecting :)
