-Knightfall Catwoman, Mr. Freeze, the Signal, IF joker, Kingdom Come Batman, Superboy, and Jay Garrick have all been officially teased recently, no preorders yet.
-Mafex's Hush Poison Ivy with chaste feet up for preorder.

Now that we know of basically everything in the 2022 lineup of DC Multiverse, what's your favorite DC Multiverse figger of 2022?
>>
MCfarlane, make a Katana figure please. Specifically the one from Rebirth.
>>
>>10156408
Now, this is just my opinion of course, but I think McFarlane's figures tend to be covered in texture, panels, and other sculpted detail, which I think hides pins quite well. Looking at >>10156348, the pins don't really stick out to me on any of them except maybe Black Adam, and even then it's not bad.

However, on a line like Marvel Legends, which tends to use generic bucks with little to no surface texture, the pins stick out a lot more to me. Their Modular Iron Man looks nearly import-quality at a glance because the pinless body is so shiny and seamless looking. So I don't think pins are necessarily just one uniform issue across the board, they work better or worse for certain lines.

>Their Modular Iron Man looks nearly import-quality at a glance because the pinless body is so shiny and seamless looking
This is likely just one of those things where you only think something looks higher quality because of the price tag. Like how lobster was considered poorfag food until they started giving it to the rich people on trains at a high mark up.
Or how people thought the printed face was considered high end because $50 Figuarts used it, until examples of that printing technology was found GI Joes 5 years before and on LEGO figures 10 years before that.
Or maybe how diecast (and toy weight in general) was considered a "premium" material.

There's only a single reason for pins being used on western toys and that's because that's how toys have been made since the 80s. Pinless likely doesn't cost more.
How do we know it likely cost nothing extra? Because Hasbro, a childrens toy company, is being cheapass on minimal paint apps and body reuse already. There's no reason for them to increase their budget if they don't go after easier, cheaper options (paint in itself is cheap. it's the amount of paint apps that costs money). And we're seeing McFarlane going pinless despite wanting to increase prices for the past 2 years.

And personally, that high gloss look looks cheap to me. Like a Mattel figure, which are all high gloss because of their overreliance on colored plastic. I think figures like pic look a hundred times better, especially in person, because it looks like real metal. I honestly thing its better than a lot of chromed stuff, because i expect to see myself in the finish wheenver i hold them and it doesn't get damaged like the sensitive as fuck vacuum form chromed toys.
Hasbro also did a pearlesque Silver Surfer that shifts in color depending on the angle you look at it. Most amazing metallic finish I've seen on any toy under $100.
And these were in the $8 1:18 lines.

Why did mass retail domestic consumers reject the ball ankle/wrist when they are a standard of high end Japanese figures?

Because Americans are bad and stupid and not smart and handsome like the superior Japanese.
>>
>>10157721

McFarlane went to sculpted ankles/wrists precisely because American consumers thought that the ball ones looked weird and abnormal.
>>
>>10157721
Because you're comparing retail toys to high end figures? JP kids figures don't have ball ankle/wrist joints as standard, either. McFarlane has openly said he plans these figures to appeal to 8 year olds.
>>
>>10157781
If it works it works. A lot of other companies also use sculpted joints. Frankly there are some egregious examples of a fully spherical ball joint that people give free passes to because the product costs nearly 100.

Probably the same reason Hasbro always stops or changes something; money. It was likely cheaper to start using that swirly metallic looking plastic instead of using paint to achieve the effect.
>>
>>10157621
>I wonder why they stopped using this paint formula
Costs of paints isn't consistent, some cost more than others. For example that first Red Hood's helmet, Todd said it used premium car paint (or something like it, I can't remember his exact wording) for the helmet, which is why the sheen is so nice to it. Naturally it costs more though, so it isn't something that's often going to be reused.

It's being used again for the upcoming blue Hush variant and one other Batman I can't recall. I really hope it's retired.

>>
>>10159677
You're right on those five, for some reason I thought there was a single release of the black Hush Bats like they did Hush.

Probably one of the worst figure bucks in a while, certainly the worst that McFarlane reused, I think.
>>
>>10159683
Nope, no single release of that black hush Batman but given I agree with you on the buck being bad I don't think I would buy it anyway unless it was a good sale

to be fair, this is actually 3 different figures and not straight reuse across the board. 3j and amazon are the same, and obviously the two hush ones are the same, but there's a bunch of differences between those and year 2 bats. it's not like they just repainted the original 3 jokers figure four more times.
>>
>>10159708
My point isn't about the reuse, I don't care if they reuse a good body, I just mean the 3J base is garbage. Those chubby baby knees, neck/head being one piece, narrow chest, cheap gauntlets/forearms. All around it's just a bad design.

okay but the five figures use like 3 different chests, 3 or 4 different sets of forearms, 4 different heads. its not that 3j base sucks, its that even the new stuff isn't good either. personally only own the first 3j batman but other than height and poor forward range don't have a problem with it. i think the hush ones look awful.
>>
>>10159761
What the fuck are you even arguing, retard?

And 3J has the slope head, shitty texture, narrow chest (they all use the same chest with a different emblem), far too long shitty fat toddler legs and that horrible neck joint.

It's an incredibly bad design and sculpt.
>>

>>10159735
>>10159730
It's still bewildering that they couldn't afford to paint the hands, but could afford to paint every single inch of skin on the figure, including inside of the shoulder joints, apparently. Like how is the waist down so well engineered and articulated, but the arms and torso are so shit? I had people telling me that the Classic Doomguy's arms were a result of an "old render", but they're engineered the same incredibly poor way, of slapping cuts into a solid sculpt of an arm, only on Bane it also comes with paint scrape and chipping.
Gives you an idea of how low standards are if we all generally consider him better than the average, because christ he has issues. Even worse because everyone was praising him to high heaven and then getting him in hand is just slow disappointment. Like I wouldn't even care if McF was shittier on average if there was at least consistency in the lines.
>>
>>10159810
I think a big part of it is simply the lack of a decent Bane. Until now you had top shell out almost 3x the price to get that middling BAF. But you're right, the bottom is so excellent it's weird the top is kinda disappointing.
>>
>>10159810
It feels like they forget to do things on this line.
>>
>>10159812
That's what had me considering him for months and then caving instantly when BBTS got a small amount in stock. Going to continue to pray for a Mafex in the near future, because Bane really is too cool of a character to not have a genuinely good figure, and Knightfall Bane is my favourite look for him. I can't see them not doing him at some point.

>>10159813
It's felt like that on all of their figure since like 2019ish. Everything is one step from being well above all domestic competition, but maybe only a single figure per wave or year doesn't fuck something up.
Like the Fortnite stuff had issues, but at the time they were way fucking better than Hasbro or Neca's similar offerings in terms of engineering and sometimes even beating Neca on paint. Genuinely wonder what the fuck is going on with their budgeting too, where figures desperately in need of a little splash more are ignored, and figs who barely need anything get buckets.

>It was likely cheaper to start using that swirly metallic looking plastic instead
ah, you're completely right. For some reason i totally forgot this is Hasbro we're talking about and they' dont use full paint apps on their toys. Even back then, it was pretty rare, but their movie lines did enjoy higher budgets.
Still, it'd be nice if another company used that type of paint.

>>10159245
I'm not sure if types of paint are more expensive. Yeah, some colors like red and black are a few hundredths of a penny more expensive per figure, but they're still used and metallics are pretty common, thus why i don't think they're bank breaking.
That said, CERTAIN types of paints require special priming or plastic. For example, McFarlane and DCC used to use black plastic with paint apps over that, to make their figures appear grimier. So this extra step would cost more.

So that redhood? It likely used a glossy plastic to get that metallic sheen. Those Drones don't have that sheen though and neither did this amazing as fuck Silver Surfer. It's too rough for that, despite their iridescent look

The best part is, there is paint for the hands. It's inside of his shoulder joint! Thanks Todd!
>>
>>10160059
You want unpainted joints that don't match the arms due to that or what?
>>
>>10160046
most bane figures don't have fists. his most iconic moment requires open hands to recreate
>>
>>10160069
Anon I had to adjust the contrast and saturation to make that difference in colour between the bare plastic and the painted portion visible. And it's scraping on the topside where the joint cut isn't even visible unless you've pushed the arms down as far as they can go.
>>
People are obsessed with the Bane figure when there are far better figures in the pic in the OP alone, Azbat, Parallax, Speeding Bullets Batman for 3. I think a lot of the obsession is more the character than the figure.

the inside has the covers though AND each issue is called "BOOK ONE/TWO/THREE/FOUR" to break up story too, so you know when each issue begins and ends.

But that's casuals for you. You can't expect someone like that to actually read anything they consume from.

And yeah, refresh my memory, because i honestly don't remember you posting it. Last time i went over the Hush stuff was back when you guys proved you have face blindless and pretended Mafex could actually sculpt Jim Lee female faces.

No one even named the books or was asking about the names. FAct is that the trades have the covers inside the book and are broken up between the books. This is how 10005% of trade paperbacks work since before you were born, but of course a casual wouldn't know this.

I mean, if you even watched the video, the guy doesn't even know one of those most iconic pieces of art for Batman and Superman.

I didn't think to ask. He was actually really nice, I got the book singed on a Sunday and when walking around the convention floor the day before I saw him walking around. Worked up the nerve to say hi to him and shake his hand. He was real nice and started joking with one of the other vendors that he knew about how Rob Liefeld couldn't draw feet. He even remembered me the next day when I got my book signed.
>>
>>10161355
You know this is a lie because Lee can't draw feet and has defended Liefeld about this multiple times. What a weird story to make up.

All I wanted to do was show him that other people have read and own these comics. He always insinuates that he's the only one who actually reads comics despite often getting details wrong about whatever book he's referring to.
