I got dark flash figure from walmart today after i found him in the store when i was looking for a mr freeze imaginext figure. Dark flash has the open mouth head sculpt though is their any way the other two different head sculpts shown on the picture on the back of the box for dark flash will get released ever?
>>
>>10139827
I'm doubting the other 2 are anything more than protos that won't get released. Could be wrong. They may have heard complaints about the Robin Crow head variants and decided against it, especially on an already underproduced exclusive.
>>
>>10139836
Well that would be a shame as one of those heads especially i liked and if i had the chance id probably get both of those variants if they were available to me. Im at least glad the best head sculpt version of dark flash got produced anyways even if the other variants get cancelled in the end.

The chest plate is super duper green and I'd like to do darkening and some scratches on it, maybe recast the gun cover doomguy has if the scale's close enough. You've gotta remember that for a lot of people just having some bit of doom toy is more than enough, and for the longest time all we had were total customs and the pewter minis if you were either lucky or comically unwise with money, so for a lot of people twenty and some change ain't shit to have -any- classic doom merch in-hand

Articulated Icons generic ninjas, some Marvel Legends, and some figuarts.

Though if he's actually as tall as All Might then I could just ignore scale because that'd make him a giant. The weird thing is that he looks significantly shorter than the Boomer in Vigilantes. I didn't expect him to be that tall when I started the main manga and since he was fighting high schoolers as an adult.

Shit like that crab mecha looks cool, but i know it'll be fucking boring in the movie. I await disappointment, but not sure if I'll watch the movie.

Maybe this second one will do something original and word of mouth is actually good, unlike the first one, where only furries liked it.

Would love to buy more soldiers though. I pray for the movie and toyline's success, because i think this is the only way McFarlane will ever make 1:18 figures.
The Quaritch figure is pretty damn nice. I've bought two and awaiting MGR accessories to try and make them look different. Gonna Call of Duty him up.

yes kind of, I already liked quartritch and the amp suit. the first movie is pretty bare bones outside of those two factors and the actual avatar mindswap tech. knowing all three of those things play a bigger role in this one is enough to capture my interests. Im not excited for the seafaring na'vi, but you bet Im sold on the concept of Na'vi commandos. the crab mech is also such a fun design on its own it works as both a vehicle and a character. That said Im holding off on buying any until Mcfarlane releases a Na'vi Quartritch.

Been meaning to post these guys for a while now. My husband snagged me the lot months ago, and I adore the 'Indy 500' Spawn quite a bit. Also, the Freak is pretty unique, they do not make them like that anymore -- Hoof has some detailed lining, solid figure overall.
>>
>>10153759
I hear MK12 is announced? Is this the end of the MK11 line?
>>
>>10154725
I also have Manga Freak, never had him back in the day so picked him up last year on ebay and he's more amusing than I thought he would be--due to all the arm posing possibilities. He's something like 26 POA mostly off the strength of those arms and weapons, given no knee joints
>>
>>10154675
I hear the sculpted ankles and wrists adds some cost, so part of it may be trying to save on cost elsewhere where they can.

Anyway I'm one of those who wouldn't get this thing unless it was on sale for cheap, I much prefer the past design.
>>
>>10155420
Sculpt doesn't add cost per unit, and sculpting ankle or wrist joints would only add a bit of time to a digital sculpt, so I doubt it has any tangible amount of cost to it. Articulated wings do have additional parts but the amount of space it takes up in a mold would likely actually be lower, since it will likely be 2 more or less flat pieces along with the joints components placed in a logical manner, whereas with a single piece of a wing you're beholden to its shape and size, including depth. I'd assume Todd just prefers the aesthetic of sculpted wings, which, while I don't disagree with, it makes for a less interesting figure. For example this new Nightmare can't even try to do the post of the old one because its wings are sculpted in a downed position. Plus for flying characters it basically means they're stuck looking like they're just standing on the ground, like Redeemer or Hawkman.
>>
has anyone else looked into the world of pandora line? its a microscale line running concurrently with the 7 inch line, it looks interesting.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=g2pjrF6Q2pc&feature=youtu.be
https://youtu.be/jS2magD4_Do
>>
>>10155429
Sculpting ankle or wrist joints can add to the number of tools needed compared to circular ball ankles/wrists, because they're less interchangeable between figure designs. While with ball ankle/wrists you mostly only need large, medium and small.
>>
>>10155436
Feels like it appeals more to diorama people. I wonder if it will find its audience. Haven't heard a lot about it.
>>
>>10155409
>I hear MK12 is announced?
I doubt it, unless the injustice games are kill.
>>
>>10155429
>Articulated wings do have additional parts but the amount of space it takes up in a mold would likely actually be lower, since it will likely be 2 more or less flat pieces
Surface space on a mold is limited.
So while it's cheaper to cut the mold for something flat (cavitation costs increase by who knows how much), wings take up more space than thighs or arms, which means they'd likely need to use another mold.
Adding another mold costs much more than just the cutting out more depth by a lot more. A single mold can cost 15k-40k, whereas just drilling the mold is in the hundreds to very low thousands.
>>
>>10155436
I got one of the banshees for ten bucks. Not bad, but one of the wings was loose to the point of falling out of the socket, which kinda colored my impressions. I still might check out the helicopter if I see one in person.
>>
>>10155457
that sucks to hear, have you tried wrapping the ball in plumber's tape or something? I hope that isnt standard across the line since I was pretty interested in getting the microscale AMP and crab suits.
>>
>>10155438
Im not even much of a diorama guy but it appeals to me for whatever reason. The whole line feels like a high end spin on green army men and cheap plastic dinosaurs.
>>
>>10155438

>>
>>10155462
Nah, the cup end of the balljoint was miscast, it was missing like 30% of the part around the edge. And honestly, my track record with mcfarlane has been pretty stellar, so probably just a QC fluke. I just ended up gluing it, it wasn't doing anything for me anyway.
>>
>>10155436
I am very interested in these for shelf display or photo setups, especially since they have integrated LEDs. And I think you could reasonably fudge them to work with almost any scale. But I am a bit disappointed in the cheap look of them, they do look like aquarium scenery pieces. And the "bioluminescence" effect looks a bit weak too.

I mean this in all honesty, you should float the idea to McFarlane. Do they have a Twitter presence (while Twitter is still alive anyway)? A contact form? McFarlane seems like the type of guy who might just be down to do something like that (color codes or paint advising). It doesn't really cost anything extra and would be great community engagement.
>>
>>10155863
the sculpt you dunce

it's even super recessed so you can probably do it even if your hands shake like a motherfucker

and they're separated from the rest of the skin by the black of the glove so you don't even need an exact color match, just "close enough" to look right

I literally can't imagine how much more babby handholding you need, would you prefer some Hasbro shit where they just give you a smooth generic buck with no option to fix unless you're a sculptor?

I"d honestly appreciate if all companies did this. There's some amount of info on transformers, at least the Takara ones, as when Legends was around they seemed to just use Tamiya stuff for the most part. Or at least Tamiya were the closest match. Bunch of times I've had minor scratches or imperfections I've touched up myself over the years, but it'd be great to not have to mix and mix and mix to find the right tone.

>>10155946

You fail to understand toy budgets. In Japan, a single toyline can have fluctuating pricepoints in order to achieve the toy they want. Two Deluxe Transformers from the same line and wave may be completely different prices as a result. In the US, toylines are required to have uniform pricing for such things, so you need to make compromises to fit within the budget. Sometimes this comes in the form of cut accessories, sometimes nixed paint apps, less joints, hell, sometimes the entire figure needs to be made smaller. Sometimes it even requires one figure to steal part of the budget from another simpler figure so they can remain uniformly priced. Bane is a clear example of this happening. Todd clearly didn't want to compromise his size or articulation, and he already doesn't come with shit, so the first logical corner to cut is paint apps.

It's all a balancing act. You want A and B, you may need to sacrifice C. That's just the way it works here. All the whining in the world ain't gonna change that.

I'm not reading all of that and will once again tell you to fucking kill yourself. If you don't have the intelligence to work out deco cost during development and instead have to scrimp at the last minute, you deserve to be criticized. Nobody would've batted an eye at those knuckles and the back of the hand not being open because the designs of the toys don't need to be 100% accurate to a specific comic. I don't care what other companies are doing. This constant "other company does X so therefore Y can cut corners" is reductive and retarded. Fuck off.

>>
>>10156720
What this is telling me is that you've never worked on a collaborative project in a big company before. Newsflash, things change literally day to day because you have separate people making calls on stuff and communication isn't always perfect. And that's even before you bring communication with the factory in China and fluctuating materials costs into it.

It's really easy to point fingers and say "I could have done it better!" but this type of idealized mindset often brushes away the real-world details of how these kinds of things actually get done. I run into this literally daily managing projects at work, do you know how many times I've delivered a perfect asset only to find out that oops, budget got cut and now you need to make some hard choices? You can try your best, but there are almost always unexpected factors that crop up. I think I've only done like, three projects where everything went totally perfectly, and that's out of dozens and dozens.

No.

You're conflating Japanese collector toys with American children toys.
Two different markets. Two different goals. Sold in totally different ways.

American collector toys can have different prices and usually do. There's a problem though, in that some companies have deals with the mass market stores that sell children toys, which makes these collector toy companies do uniform prices. Stuff like NECA's TMNT or McFarlane's Warhammer line.
So collector stuff sold outside of Target and Walmart, the prices can still vary, depending on what the product is. So lines like Mezco's One:12 stuff varies from $25-400, depending on what they're selling (Weapon packs to multi-figure packs). Same with NECA, who makes figures that range from $25 to $50. Lot of collector lines can have varying prices in the west.
>>
>>10156927
Hasbro seems to be doing a good job making their lines vary wildly in price despite being in Walmart or Target. The basic 24.99. But then for example, the 27.99 figures like Ghost Rider. Then the 33.99 "deluxe" that isn't any bigger than a normal figure. Then the "two pack" for ~55 , then the Deluxe two pack (knull+Venom) for ~75
>>
>>10157008
a lot of that is specialty market stuff. ghost rider/beast/knull+venom are fan channel.

Ohhhh, so that's why the McFarlane toys are stored over in the videogame section behind a glass case, distinctly apart from the children's toy section.

And even if that weren't true, you're wrong about the Japanese side of things too. I was talking about standard Takara releases during the CHUGURTS era, the type you'd find in TRU and are definitely marketed toward kids. I was in Japan at the time and saw the price fluctuations myself. It definitely wasn't some collector level shit, they were standard carded Deluxes hanging right in the aisles with kids rummaging through them.
>>

>Ohhhh, so that's why the McFarlane toys are stored over in the videogame section behind a glass case, distinctly apart from the children's toy section.

Nice work, if it's yours. Painting around and joints feels so daunting that I continue to not paint mine. Also my airbrush isn't cooperating, so I'd go by hand, but I never seem to get the paints thinned well enough that they actually stay on the plastic but also don't layer badly. I wonder if my issue is buying cheap paints.
>>
>>10157136
I only have one local Walmart within reasonable distance, and they put McFarlane, NECA, and all other "collectibles" behind glass. You need to get an employee to get them out for you. But ok, I can accept this may not be the situation at all stores. Maybe mine has a higher than usual theft rate or something. But you still cannot deny that they are put in a separate "adult collectibles" section, discrete from the children's toy aisles.
>>
>>10157143
one out of my 15 local walmarts puts fucking SOCKS behind glass. a separate single one puts lego behind it. this is determined on a store by store basis.

mcfarlane dc/avatar/mha/other avatar gets toy aisle. spawn/video game figures gets video game/pop/collectibles aisle
>>
>>10156033
pretty much this, going off todd's other lines he probably saw potential in some of the designs or something and bit the bullet. the execution on the mechs alone is worth diving into the line regardless of the relationship you have with the series. the amazonian catgirls and the shark dragons are just icing on that cake. that said we need more military guys in the line asap. troop packs would be kino. otherwise Im going to have to stuff final faction figures and random stormtroopers into these things.

C.
>the type you'd find in TRU and are definitely marketed toward kids
TRU is/was a giant toy company and had a ton of space, hence even in the US, had carried collector toys and had a variety of prices.

IV. you're ignoring the fact that there's western companies like Mezco, NECA, Hiya, McFarlane, Jada, Diamond, Loyal Subjects, and countless other collector companies who do sell products that fluctuate to fit what they're trying to do. Yes, even McFarlane, because they try a lot of ways of making toys. So BAF waves cost more than the normal waves.

no. they're fundamentally identical to the stuff they market to kids as toys, but those actively have to go through multiple stages of testing. i used to work for a testing lab who was contracted by walmart to handle their testing and it's a whole process. the lab i worked at had fifty washers and dryers and all the people in that department did was wash clothes and shit to see if they'd fall apart. the lab for toy testing was down the street so other than drop tests i'm not sure what all they'd do over there.

That guy is pretty accurate from what I have heard from interviews that had people who worked in the toy business. So a 14+ classification avoids a lot of those tests and saves on costs.

Anyone have pic related? I've not bought any McFarlane figures before. From my understanding this guy doesn't have the best articulation but since it's Doomguy I don't think it really matters much. He's not going to be posing like Spider-Man. As long as he can kick a demon in the dick and look like he's ripping them a new asshole, it should be fine. If you have him what's your opinion?

Also a side note the fucker was like 120+ on ebay and other sellers. Checked ebay and a few of them are going for slightly over retail from the UK with free shipping even. Why is that? You'd think shipping would at least cost 10 or so, but my order was only 26 bucks.
>>
>>10160010
I'm waiting for mine to arrive, but he just got released in the UK, which is where the barely-above-retail price come from, and shipping is cheap because it's basic without tracking. What I know about his articulation is that it's nothing great, but it's to be expected from the price point and size, although the ab crunch is actually pretty good, so he's not a complete brick, there's a bit of posing to get out of it.

Basically, his joints are "sliced" into the sculpting, something that isn't really done anymore, especially in the McFarlane line these days.
So your missing out on the double joints required for some tighter aiming poses
He can still two hand his shotgun, so if your planning on just displaying him like that, its fine though, just dont expect any superhero poses, and both of his legs are basically bricks.

There isn't a whole lot you can do about the gauntlet or ankles, but pop the midsection apart (both at the waist AND the chest) and carve away some plastic at the rim of the balljoint socket with a hobby knife. Your objective is to give the balljoint post some clearance to move forward. You can actually hack out quite a bit with no issue, and it's invisible when put back together. Keep cutting and test fitting, you can get the ab crunch to move pretty good. You will want to do this for both the sockets in the lower abdomen and the chest. It's a very easy mod and takes no skill, I did it in like 5-10 mins.

There is also a mod for thigh swivels that is easy in theory, but it does require you to make a very straight cut. So that's kind of dependent on what tools you have available, or the steadiness of your hand.

Also, I wonder if the visor was originally intended to be clear, and some logistics issue prevented it, or if this hints at a possible future repaint with a clear visor? No reason to sculpt the face otherwise.

That is crazy, there was no benefit to them to put it there and yet they did

My guess would be the scenario where it was potentially was going to be clear but something prevented it later in production. Skeptical they'd make a variant just for a clear visor and if they were going to change other things like color then I kind of doubt they'd bother changing the visor to clear
>>
>>10164789
They're probably thinking ahead so they can release variants in the future or it was just a feature they cut out, because a transparent blue (green?gray?) visor didn't work out as planned.

They did it because Todd loves toys and loves us. He might make some decisions we disagree with, but his desire to make the best toys he can is never in question.

I hate 7" and anyone who buys them but just like with Doomgay if this is the only option I'll risk an aunerysm.

recently found these cyber units brand new at a local thrift shop for less than 15 euros and the price doesn't get much higher online, also for some reason there's very little info about them and can't find shit on the archives either
why weren't they more popular? they look pretty cool and they're decently detailed too for the price

Probably due to being original IP version of altered molds of a Spawn wave. Just a lot of competition with many high detailed lines at the time.

Be careful with the joints, they aren't as sturdy as the typical mcfarlane of the time.

I doubt it'll happen but I wonder if they'll do the Quake Ranger skin from Eternal, they could easily reuse parts from classic Doomguy like the arms and hips.

What if you cut off some of the bicep? Would that give him better range? I know it wouldn't look seamless but I'm curious if anyone has done it and could show it off. If it gives him a decent amount more range and doesn't look bad I may consider doing it.

Whoever the UK bros are that are selling him on ebay for retail, as well as shipping to the states for free, you're awesome. No way was I paying 100+ for this guy.
