>>
>>10054465
Ah fuck yeah dude, glad to see you managed to get the TV-headed guy. Hope he didn't break the bank too much, I've seen him going for upwards of $20 in some places.
>>
>midlife crisis
>Suddenly back into Lego
>start off buying small sets and bricks and making MOCs to fill out a coffee-table city
>watch Lego reviews while working on city
>Some mid-sized and non-city theme
>start buying mid sized sets and playsets for random themes
>start buying stuff that's just retired/soon to retire due to FOMO
>Start buying the even bigger sets, mechs, Ideas sets etc
>Finally have a comfortable backlog of sets, weeks of building
>don't build any sets because I don't want to open the boxes
>0 intention to sell them
>get it into my head that I'll build them once I've got "all" of an arbitrary subtheme list that I've made up in my head.
I want to build the sets, I just like having them boxed as well. What new breed of autistic compulsive bullshit have I cultivated in myself. All I've done for the past week is buy sets, order minifigures from bricklink and paved over a park in my city to make a carpark so my ice cream truck has somewhere to pull up and sell ice cream.
Got some free time tomorrow, might assign all my sets a number and roll a D20 and stop being so precious about packaging and fucking cardboard.
Any other anons had backlog paralysis or are you a sensible person who doesn't just impulsively stock up on unopened sets?

>Hope he didn't break the bank too much, I've seen him going for upwards of $20 in some places.
Yea...unfortunately, I paid 21 bucks shipped for the little guy. But I blame these purchases completely on my own retardation:

>See a bunch of people in last threat mention Vidiyo is on sale everywhere.
>Check Amazon for sales, barely anything of note
>See Robot Beatbox on sale for 7 bucks
>Assume it's the radio head minifig because I don't pay attention to anything
>Order and pay for it
>After it ships, notice that the minifig doesn't look like it has a beatbox head
>Check, and sure enough, it's just a redeco of the White and Blue robot I already have
>Realize I'm going to have 3 of the 4 robots, so OCD goes into overdrive
>Find the cheapest listing for the Beatbox head minifig on Bricklink
>21 shipped
>Order a bunch of pieces too because I need to replenish my mech plating pieces
>Beatbox head gets here without the white Vinyl accessory
>Check listing again, it was listed as being sold without the accessories

So, joke's on me because I don't fucking read anything... Sucks too because I really wanted that white vinyl record piece to use in one of the mechs... Speaking of, they should be done soon. I started working on them a few days ago, and for some reason the feet designs have been giving me a ton of trouble.

>Realize I'm going to have 3 of the 4 robots, so OCD goes into overdrive
That's exactly what got me after I managed to pick up the hip hop robot car for £5 on Ebay. Suddenly I was going to have 3/4 of a set and the remaining one was frankly the coolest one.

Managed to get him for £11 which was surprising. The Vampire Bassist goes for 15, dragon for 25-30. I recently found a listing for a full set of 12 for 50 and if I hadn't picked up the Beatbox-head guy already, I'd probably do it. Hell, I could sell the dragon guy and the second Beatbox head and make my money back.

Did a bunch of work on the bones of my little cafe. I had to rip up a lot of the floor and the big plates underneath it so I could install turntables for the stools. It was really worth it though. I want to add a foot rail underneath the table soon too. I don't have the greatest minifigure collection since I basically scrape all my lego from yardsale bins, so my plan is to hit up bricklink or a lego store to choose the final cast for the diorama. The only real conceptualized "characters" are the father-son duo running the store. What I need advice on is what minifigure parts I should know about for dressing these guys for the job. I don't think I necessarily want to railroad the palette into the red theme which is why they're currently blue. Y'know, something humble and civilian while still looking like an informal uniform. Other recommendations for normal city folk would also be cool.

Sounds like you have addictive traits. It's not necessarily a guaranteed bad thing, but you definitely need to be aware of it and attempt to control your impulses. It also depends on how much it cuts into your life - if the indecision or negativity is contained in the microcosm of having too much lego, or if you also have to worry about how it affects your ability to do or afford other things. Under either circumstance I suggest setting a reward schedule around buying, unboxing, and assembling sets so you keep lego in "satisfying" instead of "stressful" territory. At the least you need to throttle your ingest so you can decide what youre doing with what you have. Maybe lomit yourself to one boxed set, and one bricklink order per month. It'll also make your individual decisions more valuable and reward you for making smart decisions.

how do you guys do two-seat wide vehicles? I.E. Vehicles that 2 minifigs can comfortably sit side by side in, maybe more

If you want to avoid an overly red colour scheme, the easiest way would be to change the stool tops.
It looks great, the Monkie Kid head on the son was a great choice to pump in a lot of personality.

I'll have to experiment with the colors I have access to, but you're right that the stools are the perfect place to add an accent color into the red/white palette. I really want to make them dark blue but I don't have the 2x2 rounds or tiles, but I can tell testing with plates it'd look pretty good. Just another thing to add to the bricklink order. Thanks for the compliment too. I'm also very happy with how it's turning out considering it's my first "domestic" style MOC in several years. I already have visions of building another half so I can add a kitchen/alleyway behind the counter. I just have a limited amount of tiles and critical architectural pieces and don't want to catch myself becoming a bricklink junkie buying parts to make things possible instead of working within the possibilities of what I have. That's why it's so small but feature-dense in the first place.

I heard plastic injection molds were in the thousands of dollars range, and that's without figuring out how to actually manufacture the part.

Your best bet is learning CAD (Tinkercad or Fusion360 are free to use) and ordering your part from Shapeways or something similar. They'll have better resolution than most of the affordable consumer printers.

These may be official and an idea by the people in the dacta section trying to spice up the monochrome, but I'm pretty damn sure that some kids with Futuron or Classic spacemen repeats would change the parts among the figures to make them distinct characters or just step-up from the monochromy.

Do note resin printers, resin itself and UV curation process are far from cheap. Resin printing is the most expensive 3D printing method.

You get to choose one retired theme/subtheme to come back for a run of 3 sets, designed to perfectly match the originals.

>They'll have better resolution than most of the affordable consumer printers.
Not true anymore. They haven't updated their printers in years, meanwhile desktop printers have come leaps and bounds.

Tens of thousands lol. I looked into it a bit further, apparently the Saraya Tech Tenacious resin should work for minifig accessories since it has flexibility on par with the rubberised Lego pieces.
And yes, you will want to learn CAD or 3D sculpting. If you want to make digital models into physical ones, you need to be able to make the digital ones first.

Life on Mars the sets would be a small set with the funky suspension trike updated, 2 pack ship and mech that can do the parts swap thing, and an updated base with those stupid tubes that has another mech and an alien ship docked in the hangers for more swappy modules

Reason for my suggestion was that you're after a display piece right? One you can fiddle with like the typewriter? The City sets (Ninjago City or the Monkie Kid City of Lanterns) are eye catching display sets with way more to look at and fuck about with than the two you suggested. City of Lanterns is actually the better of the two thinking about it, half the price and full of Lego references more than MK references (Lego store, Octan stuff, Znap sticker etc)
Basically the Globe looks shit and you should avoid it.

>>10057448
Exo-Force would be nice, A Supernova and Silent Strike individual mech sets and then the Sentai Fortress which can house both of them.

Why doesn't Lego licence out more anime licences or make more anime inspired themes considering anime is super mainstream right now?
The only anime licenced theme Lego made was Speed Racer, but that was mostly based on the live action movie. I would even settle for anime inspired sets like Eco Force. I would kill for some Dragon Ball Z sets.

>>
>>10057448
Bionicle. I honestly don't care much for what the sets are but one of them needs to be a blind bag collectible of mask recolors. I guess an actual parts box would be too on the nose for a set? Lol. You could be funny and make three "sets" out of the mask blindbags, two where they have recolors of the 2001 Toa masks and two with each a newly designed set of six made to fit the same aesthetic. I'm open to suggestions (lol) but I figure the colors would be the same as the original ones, meaning red/blue/green/brown/black/white and orange/light blue/lime/tan/dark grey/light grey. I'd settle for reddish brown and bleys. A new set of underused colors would be appreciated too, of course, like yellow, burnt orange, teal, sand blue/green, and purple, even if they wouldn't being back the old shade. Basically the mctoran set.

Honestly, if it were more successful then I could see it as a possibility. That aside, A majority of the cast would need medium legs since their around a 5 foot average. What's the best way to sort out a huge volume of mixed legos back out into their original sets?
I've got a 50-gallon storage bin filled to the brim with them in my old closet at my parents house, plus a few cardboard boxes and smaller bins. I'd like to get them sorted out at some point but it seems like such a daunting task to just dump them on the floor and start building, would take at least an entire weeks visit.
Related, is there anywhere I can just scroll through a list of every set produced between 2004-2011 or so? Trying to remember all the sets I had and the easiest way to jog my memory is seeing a picture of the thing.
>>
>>10058513
Thanks, I've literally only ever done 3 gun designs for mechs. I usually stick to swords since they're easy to make. Good advice though, splatoon guns make a ton of sense for inspiration (still need to get wound to playing Splat 3). Also, great weapon designs. All your weapon designs are extremely creative, especially the Vidiyo stuff. I'm still a fan of the boom box gun you made for your latest mech.

Brickset, bricklink

Just start with small bins. If you still have the manuals just get some ziplock bags and fill them up with parts that belong according to the back of the manual.

The thing with sorting Lego is that there is no easy/corner cutting method. It can be a time consuming process. The best you could do is probably buy one of those big Lego heads that seperate pieces by size. Then put the pieces in lots of small, medium, large.

>>
>>10058515
I regularly do this. I have a big corner-cut as >>1005858 described, because I made myself a sorting/cleaning rig made out of off and using weed wacker line strung in a grid as size filters. My major generic sorting scheme after size is 1xN plates, 2xN plates, other NxN plates, wedge/round plates, 1x1 bricks/plates/rounds/tiles, 1x2 bricks/plates/tiles, all other 1xN/2xN tiles, all other 1xN blocks/2xN blocks, all other blocks/modified blocks, normal slopes, inverted slopes, "3D" slopes, curves, inverted/special curves, and then subsets for vehicle/architecture/technic/accessory parts as they apply to you. That's a mouthful but the only real way to convey it. After that I *literally* inventory everything to a T on Rebrickable. It takes a long time the first few lots in order to learn how to use the system quickly and familiarize yourself with all the part names and IDs, but it's seriously worth it because in the end you can just use the "build" function on the top of the site and it'll fart out what percentage of every set you have in your inventory. I don't fully inventory every lot I snag because I mostly flip it per-pound after I pick it for bricklink fodder, but if you're looking to seive sets out of the void rebrickable is a seriously handy tool.

Lego's brand has so much goodwill that their success is basically a metric of the lerger economy's health, not of their individual performance. Not enough people know alternatives exist and they don't have any market pressure to seek them, so they never really have to worry about actually delivering a consistently superior product that regularly gets compared A-B with their competitors. However Lego is certainly shifting their demographic from the impulse consumer to the hyper afol, but it's not for aversion of risk, but pursuit of additional profit. Lego would only face another crisis under this model if a collective fan community could boycott lego or if on a raw economic level afol simply stopped being able to afford lego. The former is not possible and the latter unfortunately has another few viruses and wars to go before everyone's little sand piles fade at the edges and blow away.

At this point, the only thing that would split them apart is if Disney went apeshit and made the licences complete financially unviable, which I doubt will happen because even if the prices doubled SWfags would still pay.
In theory, if Disney wound up getting dragged through the dirt for shit like Blizzard did, maybe they'd get dropped same as Overwatch did, but given everyone knows Disney is full of rapists and paedophiles, they could probably release feature length CP and Lego (and everyone else) would look the other way.

He can clearly design some great buildings (the 3-story apartments, the Octan factory, his new police station), yet he chooses this god-awful green eyesore as his first skyscraper and the centerpiece of the city? Seriously, it's laughably bad and simplistic compared to his other builds. He could do so much better
>>

There are fine looking modern skyscrapers though. Something like pic related is maybe a bit bland but still pleasant enough and certainly not a terrible eyesore. Most of the really awful featureless concrete rectangles are leftover brutalist buildings from the 60s-90s.
I'm just confused by the decision to put absolutely zero detailing on the thing, and to use fucking dark green of all colors. It wouldn't be half-bad if it was just done in grey/white/tan, had a change in width or some insets/detailing partway up, and an actual lobby and parapet to make the top and bottom more distinct. Right now it's just a green triangle extruded upwards.
Notice the building in the pic has balconies adding texture, an interesting feature floor in the middle, a proper base, and some detailing at the top.
>>
>>10059456
Seeing as how almost every set is a callback/has references to old original themes, it would be a fitting capstone I suppose.

>>10059461
Technically, Vidiyo is licenceshit (Universal Music) so if there wasn't going to be another new theme, Monkie Kid would be the last.
That said I don't think it will be the last; they've obviously slowed a lot since the mid 2010s (if you don't count the Lego movies' sets, the past 3 unlicenced themes are Monkie Kid, Hidden Side and Nexo Knights.
Hidden Side didn't sell great and they've bizarrely hamstrung Monkie Kid in the West. I heard Nexo Knights didn't sell too well either, so Lego is probably convinced that the unlicenced themes are doomed to poor sales, but all of those themes have had a single issue responsible for the poor sales and it's actually nothing to do with being unlicensed (it's apps, availability or trying to reinvent the wheel).
>>
>>10059557
>There are fine looking modern skyscrapers though
>look this one is a white and glass tube instead of a green and glass box
I mean it's all much of a muchness
>Notice the building in the pic has balconies adding texture
Is Jang's scraper an office or a habblock? If it's a habblock I'll agree he should have added more detail, if it's an office, he should probably have less detail.
Feature floor is a good call though, can't fault that one, it's a good suggestion. And yeah, I'll agree that the dark green and transblack windows is a baffling choice. Either could have worked without the other (e.g. dark green and clear trans)

Man, what a disappointing set. The new Maldo helmet is nice, and there's nothing wrong with the build but the Razor Crest is just a weird choice for a UCS.

First of all, this is like 2 years late. The 150 dollar one was perfectly fine, too. This one has a massive sticker sheet and the grey on the stickers doesn't match the grey pieces (only the best is good enough, right?)

And the cheaper set had better minifigs, for some reason this ughnaught head looks weird, and it's really lazy to not do a molded head for the blue guy (he looks like nebula)

Besides, 600 dollars is a whole lot of cash. If you want a big Razor Crest to display the Hasbro one is almost half the price.

Also, I really believe that LEGO is starting to lose its grip with all these expensive sets coming out all the time. Just 5 years ago there was very few sets over 100 bucks released, the expensive sets were typically the modular and UCS-set (and those were once a year)

This days I feel like they release mutiple 300+ dollar sets per month. Staggering with the times we're in with racing inflation and western economy on the decline.

Your wish is yours to keep.

Jokes aside, I can't see the Greek epics selling as a theme. Only Homer 90% of people know is Simpson and thanks to Disney, no one knows shit about the actual Greek stories other than "that time they built a big horse and then boss-man died from being shot in the foot".
Ironically the West has no equivalent to Journey to the West.
>>
>>10059630
I agree with this, set seems incredibly underwhelming for the price. When you compare it to any of the non-SW expensive sets, it's even duller than the usual UCS stuff.
And you're right, I have no fucking idea what Lego is doing having all these insanely priced sets coming out every month when, like you said, inflation and the cost of living is spiralling out of control.
My only guess is that the profit margins on these huge sets must be incredible, but if they're relying on that to balance their books too much, they're gonna shit the bed when this recession kicks into full swing and no one can afford to buy much Lego, let alone $100+ sets.
>>

When they are picking the order it saves them time big league , assuming its a big store with lots of orders it makes business sense.

What's up with lego selling monkie kid sets exclusively online? You can't even find them in regular lego stores.
It's like they want this top flop in the west.
>>
>>10060792
it's for china not the west
>>
>>10060792
Basically they focused exclusively on China for the marketing which meant people didn't know/care about the sets in the west, so they didn't sell well here. For some reason, they decided that rather than working on the marketing, they weren't worth the shelf space due to poor sales.
Shits so weird. My local store has a tiny section right next to the door, but you have to walk round the other side of the door, so it's in more-or-less a blindspot in the store. But sets wise they have like 4 random sets, including the noodle tank which seems to be the one set that sells just due to being so eyecatching. The Staff Creations set is the intro box and I've never seen it in stores. Chnag'e's Mooncake Factory they have as a display set at Discovery centres, but not in normal stores.
Flip side, The Bone Demon is out of stock online but in stock in the local store and I'm tempted to get it as a villainous counterpart to my 4-in-1 combiner mech but I got Lady Bone Demon in the Fire Ring set. Don't even like China but I've become a huge MK-fag after getting the Noodle Tank for my birthday.

My honest assumption, knowing TLG, is that it wasn't a scheme, it was just a complete fuck up because they've been fucking shit up constantly in America.
Fun fact: Pound sliding down against the dollar means that some of the most overpriced sets in America are now $0.05 per piece in the UK.

One thing I have noticed is that star war's designs are often difficult/inefficient to implement in LEGO

Walkers , huge wings that move , huge engines to size of ship. The designers end up using parts budget to implement these features at expense of play features modular designs cargo space etc.

You're using too much teal.

I should kill you

Look at the rock raiders sets again, teal was always an accent colour, not the main colour.

I'd report him, but I always get a ban when I report someone for spamming new threads.

Rock Raiders with molded seats just looks wrong.
Also, I'd agree with the other anon on there being too much teal, something like this would look more in-theme to me

Better, some of the yellow needs to be replaced with brown, though
>>
>>10062108

oh no it's afol

Brown was only ever used for chains, cockpit pieces, and propellers (and of course the boulders).
Most small vehicles (rapid rider, transport truck) have no brown.
>>
>>10062097
That's really cool. Just needs appropriate minifigs
>>
>>10062239
Fair, still feels like too much yellow though. Maybe more light grey.

Only one full day left I hope everyone has their SHIPTEMBER mocs nearly finished!
