>Crimson Guards arrived at BBTS
>Amazon said the Blue Ninja two pack will be shipped next week.

Are they beginning to get un-fucked?
>>
>>10043917
No, just fucked in the new and exciting way we're coming to expect. I sure love when three digits worth of preorders come due weeks or months before expected, right after I paid for items that actually come out on an announced schedule. But there'll be plenty of wiggle room in my budget once a Mezco preorder gets delayed again.

At this point I think I might genuinely prefer giving companies interest free loans, because I don't have to worry about having the money free when they decide they want it, and the toys frequently appreciate more than the currency in this braindead economy. On the other hand, if you're not buying direct, that leaves smaller toy shops fucked when a company pulls shit like cancelling a production run that they solicited a year or more previously.
>>
>>10043982
>might genuinely prefer giving companies interest free loans

Atleast where target is concerned, they had $130 tied up in a hold for a month, still no toys
>>
>>10044041
Hasbro has been like this for years and they still haven't fired whatever braindead baboon is responsible for why their distribution is so fucked.
>>
>>10044057
Except for python patrol and a MOTU box set I've gotten out of the preordering waves years in advance business. It's kinda cut down on fomo and stressing over things. I just put in for the crimson guard, an absolute personal favorite, since you guys said bbts is getting them.
>>

My blue ninjas shipped this morning.
>>
>>10043982
I really wish places like BBTS let you do the Gamestop thing and pay off pre-orders ahead of time. Especially with higher ticket items that require a nonrefundable deposit in the current economy where who knows what your money situation will look like a year and a half on from when the pre-order went live.
>>

That's why I'm just done preordering Hasbro stuff. Too many times have I gotten my monthly toy budget screwed in the last year because of their early shipments, no matter who I ordered from. And I'm definitely not doing Target exclusives anymore because of the constant dings to make sure I have payment ready.

There are far less flattering stereotypes of native Americans out there than elite warriors and nature survivalists, and I think the culture at large is finally making peace with that.

I haven't picked up Spirit yet but when I do I'm gonna buy him a compound bow and quiver because I think that's a much cooler weapon for him. The first Spirit figure I haver had was the Sigma 6 version and I thought he was awesome because he was like a cross between Rambo and Turok, two of the coolest bow-wielding characters of all time.

Dates getting changed seem basically meaningless for this line. I remember back in like, June, I got an email from BBTS that the release date for the Cobra Officer/Storm Shadow/Spirit wave had been changed from July to September, and then less than a week later the Officers I ordered dropped in my POL.

Kinda surprised hardly anyone complained about whitewashing a Southern black like Roadblock with a lighter skinned only partially black actor.
It's almost as if Hollywood controls the narrative and only allows complaints when it's advantageous to them.

Recently got into collecting these guys since I picked up a Cobra Officer. Is it supposed to be a nightmare finding anything? Thought the Viper looked cool, sold out. Is the fanbase this small and dedicated that it's hard to start collecting? Also what is some good media to get into? I see the comics are coming to an end, there any talks of a new series starting?
>>
>>10046546
Low availability has been the biggest complaint since this line started. It's been especially made hard because people who weren't Joe fans all of a sudden jumped into the line because of YouTube influencers hyping it up. That combined with people getting free government money to buy figures by the case has made it very difficult to obtain figures up until recently and even then it's just marginally better.
>>
>>10046546
The owner of Skybound (creator of Walking Dead) bought the publishing rights for GI Joe and has made clear that he intends to publish new comics, and will probably be reprinting collections of RAH as well.

And I feel you when it comes to how fucked distribution has been on this line. I had to pay $40 on eBay just to get Duke. Some key figures are Target exclusive and there were a few Amazon exclusives as well. I've been to probably 6 or 7 Targets and Wal-Marts in my area and all of them have empty GI Joe sections save for a few Snake Eyes movie peg warmers and some of the ReAction figures. The one "prize" I saw was a lone Croc Master at Wal-Mart that I didn't even want, and he was sold by the time I was there again.

On the bright side, all signs point to GI Joe being as popular as it's ever been without a movie or TV show to support the line, although it doesn't make me much better about having to pay eBay prices for a lot of the figures I want. And the idea of building a squad of Cobra soldiers feels hopeless right now.
>>
>>10046546
Idk the size of the Joe fandom but it's pretty damn dedicated. Gi Joe was a big part of my childhood and I guess gi Joe must mean something to me. I've stuck through the last few years, despite Hasbro doing everything they can to chase me off.
For media, you really can not go wrong reading the original marvel series, it's very good if you enjoy comics in general imo. I also like the old cartoon, it's fun and gives a quick set up to Joe vs cobra and of course it has a large selection Joes on screen.
>>
>>10046546
Yeah, its something we're all facing with this line. There are plenty to be found online, like Amazon, BBTS, Gamestop, etc. that are actually in-stock, but for figures that are on PO, its pretty much a shot in the dark as to when they'll actually be restocked/come out (in the case of new figures.)
>>
>>10046609
Yeah I've seen then here and there at my local collectors store and I had some extra in store credit and figured I'd give it a try and love the single Officer I have now.

>>10046624
Well I'm glad it's looking good then. I tend to get into things when they're on their deathbed and seeing the comics coming to an end made me think G.I Joe was about to bite the bullet.

>>10046632
I'll have to check it out, I didn't grow up on those kinds of cartoons so I usually tend to prefer a more modern looking show. Anything worth while to check out?
>>
>>10046795
The real reason the comics got canceled is because Hasbro was dissatisfied with IDW and the drama they were causing for Hasbro's brands, and IDW were themselves having tons of internal problems that caused Hasbro to lose their confidence with them as a publisher. They put a self-described "socialist" writer in charge the series who had made some very offensive statements about the USA and 9/11, and as you can probably guess most of the RAH fandom is very patriotic and it caused a major uproar in the fandom. I am not going to be petty and name the writer, but suffice to say, he was a wrestling fan first and a GI Joe fan last, and he probably should have been put in charge of a WWE comic and not GI Joe.

Transformers at IDW, much like GI Joe, started out promising and then turned into a shitshow once the inmates were running the asylum. In the IDW continuity, every one of the Transformers is gay or has experienced same-sex romantic relationships in their backstory, virtually without exception. Sales started cratering as the comic focused less and less on battles and adventures, and more and more on relationships and drama. It was clearly someone's dream to do this to the Transformers IP but a nightmare for everyone who had the misfortune of buying and reading the comics. The one bright spot under IDW was that Larry Hama still occasionally writes a new issue of Real American Hero which were still appreciated by the oldheads. And lucky for them, Skybound is in all likelihood going to keep publishing Hama's RAH run since it got consistent and predictable sales even as all of IDW's more modern takes on GI Joe comics kept failing or being sabotaged internally.

Anyone here try any of Gridiron Studios' accessory packs? I'm thinking about giving their radio set pack a try since I was not satisfied with the accessories that Breaker came with. I'm also in the market for an M2 to pair up with Roadblock and they have two different versions, a more retro-themed one that is more colorful and includes a tripod, and one that's leaner and more "cinematic" looking.

I'm not happy that their backpacks are meant to be fastened with carpet tape instead of putting pegs on them, but I can always 3D print a peg plate myself and superglue it in place.
>>
>>10046497
People were not that sensitive back then. Yeah they got a lighter skinned mixed race man to play Roadblock, but they also had a French Moroccan man playing Breaker and a black man playing Ripcord. The other thing is that now, the studios started listening to complainers but only some of them. You're only allowed to complain if you feel one of the "correct" groups of people is being slighted.

One of two things has to change: either people stop complaining across the board about what race the actor is whether it's Leslie Jones playing Queen Elizabeth or Ryan Gosling playing Black Panther, or the studios should just stop playing musical chairs with character's races across the board and introduce new characters to placate the people who complain if quotas are not being met. There's no sign that people are going to stop complaining about changes, and that means it falls on the studios now.
>>
>>10047101
>I was not satisfied with the accessories that Breaker came with.
The original 1982 Breaker only had a backpack, and helmet with radio headset, no weapons at all. He must have been one of the more disappointing figures for kids.

>>
>>10047101
Some of their backpacks don't have pegs, and just use double sided tape to hold them on. Plus y ou can see the 3d print layer lines on all of the pieces. They're neat, but way overpriced for what you get, in my opinion.
>>
>>10047641
This, you can find most of these on 3d printing websites.

Shit, I've seen people selling "the" Cobra thrones on etsy. Like half a dozen people selling the same 3d printed item.
>>
>>10047641
I don't want to knock their efforts but using tape to fasten a satchel is too much. Maybe they tried and the pegs kept failing, idk.

I sure hope that Kirkman does this
>>
>>10047930
Could they do the marvel series or is that what you are hoping to see? It'd be cool to see special missions again either way, never read too much of that one.
>>
>>10047947
I have no idea if they can. All I know is IDW did reprint the Marvel stuff once or twice, and those editions are fairly expensive now.
>>
>>10047947
Hasbro owns the Marvel series which is why IDW was able to reprint it, with all Marvel logos removed, of course. The GI Joe comic was commissioned by Hasbro, so they basically gave Marvel a lump sum to produce it with their writers, artists, and distribution chain. It's not like the games industry where games where nobody actually owns the right, and after the contract expires it basically becomes abandonware. There is some of that in the comics industry because sometimes publishers by a limited license from an IP holder, but not in the case of GI Joe RAH.
>>
>>10047951
>>10047987
So then idw Could get the license to reprint them but since the series is being pulled from idw there is probably little chance of that happening now. Bummer, the price of the floppy comics is kinda high too, so no affordable physical reprints right now.
>>
>>10048003
No, that's not what I was saying. Hasbro has all the rights, and they pulled the rights from IDW. Skybound was the highest bidder for the publishing rights. IDW can't reprint Joe back issues and trade paperbacks anymore, but Skybound can since the publishing rights includes all of the Marvel GI Joe comics.
>>
>>10048040
Ok, mis understood. Since this is the case they could already be in the process of putting together some collections. Something like the walking dead omnibuses would be great.
>>
>>10048088
I hope so. I missed out on IDW's collections and they are both expensive and incomplete, though granted, one omnibus volume will last the average reader quite a while.
>>
>>10048096
nothing from IDW is expensive. The most expensive it gets is slightly above cover price.

... or did IDW losing the rights make everyone go crazy on what used to be found half priced at comic conventions around the US?
>>
>>10048143
The IDW omnibus collections for the Marvel comics have gone up in price significantly due to going OOP and people panic buying.
>>
>>10048179

Wasn't WW3 from Devil's Due Publishing?

I have the hardcover omnibus for DDP's GI Joe vs. Transformers, which has gotten a bit rare since then. It's a bit beat up because I loaned it to my brother when he was in the army and everyone in his barracks ended up reading it, and I love every dent, scratch and ding in it for that.
>>
>>10048179
I have the smaller thick books, so I'm not sure if you're referring to these or some hard cover. And i bought them half priced too.

Personally, i get whatever is available first, which means I bought most shit before it got an omnibus.
Not a fan of hardcovers either. I tend to read stuff on the shitter, so i also hate thickass books too. Don't even like them when reading on a normal chair, because you basically need to read them on a desk or table, or it becomes a literal pain.

Basically, the only omnibuses i own are Marvel ones, like Claremont's XMen, because it was the only way to read his run fully without needing floppies. There have been halfassed collections before, but they they were never complete
Other omnibuses i own are stuff i never finished collecting in trade paperback. So sometimes i have the first omnibus and a bunch of paperbacks for later halfs and othertimes vice versa.

I've got all the ones they've put out so far. I think they're really great - but I keep mine carded.
I was a kid when the RAH line first came out in the early 80s so there is a lot of nostalgia factor for me with these; not only the figures, but the card art and just the whole thing.
They're a little pricey - if they were $30 instead of $50 I would buy 2 sets of each and open one and keep the other carded.
I have a feeling these will only go up in value over time, though. I don't really buy toys with re-sell value in mind, but Joe fans are nuts. In 10 years these will be going for gorillions of dollars MOC.
Maybe I'll sell them then and retire to SEA, and spend my remaining years indulging in wine, women, and song.

Got these guys in today. I feel like every new figures is my new favorite figure in this line. There's a lot good, and some kind of eh things about them.

They feel really solid, no loose joints like some past figures have had. The backpacks to me also fit a lot better than some past figures. They don't feel like they're going to fall off or too loose. And like a lot of the other generic troopers, they can fit all of their equipment on their person.

Some things I don't love: The scabbards are a harder plastic, and they're all warped to fuck, so putting the sword in there will probably warp it too. Would probably take a lot of heat to bend that scabbard back into its normal shape. Also, feels like these guys had an abnormally high amount of excess flash here and there. Especially in some of the joints like the elbows. Just seemed unusual, because I can't think of any other figures in this line that has happened to. That said, they still feel really solid, like all the other figures in the line.

Also, for people wanting a good saber for CC, one from these guys will work well, I think. Now just to get Tomax and Xamot....

Gee, I sure wonder why G.I.Joe is Pulse exclusive in the UK, surely it must've sold well there right?

Maybe if the line was rebranded to Action Man then maybe numbers will still pulling up but this is inconsequential to us in a first world country and easily accessible compared to everywhere else that is third world.

What's this all about? I can't find a single news story about Hasbro dropping retail for GI Joe but Analog Toys can make a 6 minute video out of this headline.
>>
>>10055320
Because it's only the EU/UK bros who are gonna suffer with Pulse only?
>>
>>10055369
Is Hasbro actually pulling the line from retail though? Analog Toys didn't post any links and I can't find anything.

I mean, it totally seems like a Hasbro move to go "this line is selling out and we can't get it to stores because of our inept supply chain management. Let's just drop retail all together and sell the toys on our website." but this is the first I've heard of it.

>I can't find a single news story about Hasbro dropping retail for GI Joe but Analog Toys can make a 6 minute video out of this headline.
Retroblasting's been having his youtuber friends(Analog Toys for example) shit on Hasbro so he can claim other youtubers are turning on them. It's more bullshit from the same fag constantly trying to ruin toy communities.
>>
>>10055378
There's plenty of shit to criticize Hasbro for without having to resort to hearsay and whisper campaigns. Right now my biggest criticism of Hasbro's management of the GI Joe line is that it's ridiculously hard to find the figures I want, because the shelves are bare at every retailer I visit. Every Wal-Mart and Target I visit has a generous number of pegs dedicated to GI Joe Classified Series and there is no product hanging from them. Logic would dictate that Hasbro will address this problem by fixing their supply chain problems and getting more product to stores. The internet rumor mill logic will tell you that this is all on purpose and that Hasbro's secretly planning to exit retail completely so they can sell everything through their site and not have to split profits with retailers.
>>
>>10055381
It's all normal on hasbro's part with GI Joe. They did this off and on during the Modern Era and it was always around the movies. When there's a movie, figures start popping up elsewhere. No movie? Figures are mostly US only. It's not rocket science. Certain youtubers keep trying to kick up conspiracies about the line, and the one youtuber I mentioned recently went on a 20 minute rant about the Classified line and how Hasbro proved him wrong by making classic style figures after he bitched about them making updated designs for a younger audience. And in that video he says he's still not happy and that the line is still failing.
>>
>>10055373
>Is Hasbro actually pulling the line from retail though?
Dunno, but I'd say ask AllTheCoolStuff.co.uk as they're big Joe supporters and well connected to Hasbro sales. They run a few toy cons include a Joe one.

So basically, American fans are probably not going to notice much difference in terms of retail presence, but people overseas will probably be getting pinched hard depending on your country.

It kinda sucks but I guess how that is until there's some kind of transmedia event to get people hyped about GI Joe again. It's a real shame that the video game wasn't better, but at least the toys sold well.
>>
>>10055410
>So basically, American fans are probably not going to notice much difference in terms of retail presence
Not unless someone buys up all of those movie figures sitting at Target and Walmart. 90% of my Joes come from Amazon and Pulse as-is.
>>
>>10055381
The idea that Hasbro DOESN'T want every peg and toy shelf filled with their merchandise is blatantly ridiculous. If it were up to Hasbro, the ONLY toys that would be on shelves would be Hasbro product. But it's not up to them, it's up to the retailers, and retailers barely care about toys to begin with. And they certainly don't care about specific figures or characters, as long as something is on the peg they're content.

That said, anyone still relying on brick and mortar stores to be their primary source of toys is a moron.
>>
EU/UK is going Pulse only.

That's it. That's the news. Emily from the brand team posted it.
>>
>>10055410
The Snake Eyes toys are still peg warming hard at most retailers in the US. Every time I go there's more of them put out on the pegs. Each time I think they must have sold out of them, there's two full pegs of them. I hope Hasbro learned that the producer behind that movie was a complete retard. He was the same fag who declared that Hasbro needed to ban Cobra Commander's hood, because he looked like the KKK.
>>
>>10055420
Hasbro should be looking hard at Top Gun Maverick and going "this would have been us if we hadn't listened to the moron who said to make a Snake Eyes movie without Snake Eyes." Imagine if in Bumblebee, Bumblebee is not on screen at all and it's only at the last shot during the end of the movie that John Cena puts on a Bumblebee Iron Man suit. Nobody would watch that movie and Transformers fans would reject it.

The only Classified toys I've seen left at retail are a couple of Baroness and Scarlett figures. I guess that eventually the kids and parents who don't know better bought most of the Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow figures, not knowing they had anything to do with a movie that bombed. They did sit on shelves way longer than any of the regular Classified Series figures, though, much to nobody's surprise. It's kind of like how He-Man and Skeletor from the Netflix MOTU line eventually sold out because they looked close enough to what people remembered from their childhoods, but HRT Teela and sharia law-compliant Evil-Lyn are rotting in clearance bins. Now Mattel is going to tweak and re-label all the Netflix MOTU toys that sold well to make them look more "retro-compliant" and that's the 40th Anniversary line. Which is basically exactly what Hasbro did following the original video game run of GI Joe Classified figures.

I guess it speaks to how popular Snake Eyes is that Hasbro has two more variants of him lined up even after the movie bombed and the toys had sluggish sales. Imagine how well the toys would be selling if they had put out a credible GI Joe movie that celebrated the brand's legacy, instead of being built around an identity politics gimmick and trying to emotionally blackmail fans with one of the most popular characters, who nobody in the writers room knew jack shit about.

>>
>>10056374
>coom shadow
>>
>>10056374
By the end, Rose Tico was selling for literally a penny.

In the case of the Snake Organ toys, I think the Snake Eyes figure was "okay" enough that kids would not complain if they asked for a Snake Eyes figure and their parents gave them that one, albeit it's still got the Josh Goldingle head in the box. Maybe kids can pretend Snake Eyes cut off another ninja's head or something.

The Storm Shadow figure is kind of-- unfortunate. Like the Snake Eyes figure, the head proportions aren't great but it's made worse by the fact that part of the face is visible. They also chose an absolutely terrible color to cast it in, because it's more of a cream or beige color than white. It literally looks like the figure needs to be retrobrited. Beyond that, it just looks fucking boring, just a big blob of beige plastic with very little visual interest. The Rise of Cobra Storm Shadow figure was basically trying to do the same thing with the full sleeved duster, but pulled it off way better.

Storm Shadow is garbage. Pick him up deeply discounted for his swords.
>>
>>10057683

>>10057786
Only in the way Marvel Legends do them. The Joes hide them in a natural way so it works fine. So, any chance of Snow Job being a figure / vehicle combo like Baroness and Breaker? And if so, does that mean there might be a similarly sized cobra vehicle in the upcoming wave? What would you pick?
>>
>>10061587
1/10 scale and made for anime heads means they're gonna be huge.

Once I've actually gotten to see how my design looks in resin I'll probably put it up on Thingieverse or something so everyone can use it. I might still make a few tweaks, though. The stems need to be a little longer, and I might flare them out a bit so I can print the lenses smaller. As is the glasses might still look a little large for aviators.
>>
>>10062438
They probably wouldn't include his skis in that case, so a vehicle pack-in is more likely to be some other snow character like Frostbite or Iceberg.
>>
>>10059105
The one's from Mezco's latest Pink Skulls Chaos Club set actually secure to the Gung Ho head pretty well, though the lenses are a bit large.
>>
>>10062447
Possibly. You never know. Breaker came with pretty much nothing but the RAM bike (which IMO was bullshit), but Baroness was a fully kitted out figure that happened to come with the Coil bike and then some. I like the RAM bike better but in terms of of value Baroness wins. It's like they took away all Breaker's accessories to offset how much more stuff they were cramming into Baroness' box.

What I'm getting at is that they could hypothetically include Snow Job's skis while still packing him in with a snowmobile, but if Hasbro feels like they're giving people too much in that price range they might offset it by making the Cobra equivalent character include almost nothing besides the vehicle. If it comes down to that I hope they at least give that character a gun, and they don't make it a "backpack character" who comes with no backpack.

If they do Deep Six in this line I hope that he's a normal sized version and they don't attempt to make him as a gundam-like giant hunk of plastic that needs a specially desgined vehicle just to fit in. Version 1 Deep Six sucked and there were two much more manageable versions that followed.

I had both the version 2 and the Eco Warriors version. The coloring on the Eco Warriors version was absolutely atrocious like something a colorblind person would make, but I thought the actual design was pretty good, and having a dolphin companion was pretty rad.

If they want something more classic looking though, something evocative of V2 would probably be fine. All they really have to do is scale up the Anniversary version which gave him a nice clear bubble helmet instead of the antique looking diving helmet on V2.

Sitterson was a troll writer for the comic (who eventually the community managed out oust) who kept purposely trying to pick fights with said Joe community. This is a gay artist he picked to try to show all those "mean homophobe Joe fans" how much of a piece of shit their favorite series is.

To be fair Aubrey did at least have some self awareness about what happened after the fact, and recognized that there were consequences for his actions. He basically admits he fucked over his career with what he did to GI Joe. He went and did crowd funding for a comic and actually had a lot of success with it and he seems a lot better adjusted now.

I don't like the guy and I still almost can't believe what happed to the Joe comics. I think at the end of the day though, the buck stops with IDW. They put Aubrey Sitterson in charge of the comic knowing the fans would be irritated by it, and basically gave him carte blanche to piss off the fans. And then Sitterson's bad boy wrestling heel persona on Twitter turned out to be more than they bargained for.

At the end of the day, I think the most blame belongs on IDW. I don't know what the motivation behind their anti-fan mean streak was, whether they thought they'd attract a bigger audience or if they were just being trolls and didn't think there'd be any consequences, but Hasbro noticed and ultimately put their foot down.

I can only imagine what an absolute zoo IDW must be behind the scenes. The picture I imagine is like, a cross between a frat house where all the men are drinking beer and sticking foreign objects in each other's asses, and a high school where the mean girls run everything and make your life hell if you don't grovel and kiss their shoes.

Ultimately, IDW had this whole situation blow up in their faces, then the followed it with that reboot comic that reimagined GI Joe as a #RESIST book. IDW editorial must have just gone insane, there's no other explanation.
>>
>>10064488
Just the same thing's happened with every company the last ten-fifteen years. They want infinitely increasing profits and assume in their hubris that all the current fans will stay at the trough for any slop they shit out as long as it has the brand name they love. So they begin to ignore what those fans want and try anything and everything to attract all new all different customers.

I'm a /co/mrade as well as a /toy/ solider. Sitterson and editorial's endorsement of him REALLY fucked IDW.

IDW really had a hate boner for the 'boy brand' Hasbro fans, whether it was GI Joe or Transformers they perceived both the fanbases as rabidly pro-Trump and they doubled down on Sitterson's antics to the point where IDW's EIC tried to pull a fast one on Hasbro when they insisted Sitterson be removed (Hasbro's customer service department was flooded with complaints about his 9-11 comments and Hasbro rarely steps in when it comes to licensees but the backlash couldn't be ignored). The EIC 'fired' Sitterson but get this: he was still going to ghostwrite using IDW's secretary as a front. Someone tipped that to Hasbro who had enough and they threatened to use their termination clause and IMMEDIATELY pull all their properties (including MLP which was their top seller) so the EIC had to step down and it soured the relationship between Hasbro and IDW which is why Hasbro didn't renew.

Switching back to a toy-centric front, any suggestions for a beardless comic-style head for Classified Breaker? And third party communication gear?

I have the all-black Ninja snake eyes although I was thinking about getting Commando and the upcoming Ninja Snake / Timber two pack, too, and possibly mixing and matching some of the accessories between the all black and the black and gray / khaki Snake Eyes.

Also, I got a 3D printed katana for Snake Eyes because I always hated that oversized survival knife looking sword. I replaced his guns too because the ones he came with are even worse than the NERF guns the other wave 1 figures come with, and they have big doofy holes in them for some reason.

I sold off the rest of my classified since I felt like I wasn’t as attached to the line as I should be, but I kept my three Snake Eyes. He’s just too fun. I’d probably buy a V3 if they made him but that would be it for me.

This the hopefully final revision of my sunglasses model. My Gung Ho figure should be coming in later today or very soon so I just need to make sure they're still big enough to fit his head (I'm expecting I'll need to slightly upscale for him since he's bigger, but I'll find out soon enough). I made the lenses a little smaller, the stems longer, and I flared the stems out a little to wrap around the head more naturally.

That reminds me, someone did a pretty clever repaint of a Darth Maul head to do Ray Park as unmasked Snake Eyes. Personally I imagined Snake as having his hair cut really short because of his mask / helmet, although this is a great representation of how Park looked in the behind the scenes footage for the GI Joe movies.

There was also some fairly powerful imagery of Snake Eyes in the Devil's Due comics for the Reinstated arc. In the first glimpse of Snake Eyes unmasked his head's completely shaved and you don't really see his face, but at that point in the story he's pretty much buried himself in his work and has broken off his relationships with a lot of the other characters. At the end of the arc, when those relationships have been repaired, his hair has grown back out, almost as if to symbolize that he's regained his humanity. It was good stuff.
>>
Snake eyes face should be up to your imagination imo, I don't want anything concrete. Idk if it's a self insert thing since se isn't the guy I'd see myself as but leaving his face a mystery feels right.

>>
>>10066106
O-ring joes kind of sucked, no matter how conceptually good they wer. There's a reason I stopped collecting them and switched to Batman and then Star Wars. They just weren't very durable, and the O-ring was the biggest failure points. Eventually all those rubber O-rings will deteriorate, even with mint-on-card figures. The thumbs were also a common point of failure because the plastic had no flex like the Batman and 90s Star Wars toys did.

I loved my GI Joes but I am not nostalgic about the construction on them. The more modern GI Joes from the 25th anniversary line through the movies and onward were very welcome to me as an adult because they reminded me of my old joes, but with better materials, more life-like sculpts, and no rubber band holding them together while still having quite a bit of articulation.

Someone has to ask about this during the panel or whatever they are doing. I'm ok with a slow drip of figures but this is just beyond ridiculous.

What are they gonna announce for the line anyway?

Saw the retro cards yesterday, just a case of baroness. Guess I'll get one on clearance.
>>
>>10066681
Yeah Hasbro is leaning into solid cases again with their China made stuff which is going to fuck up ratios all over the country. My local Walmart's got solid cases of Destro and Baroness, the few 20 miles south got Lady Jaye and Destro. So in this region GunHo(for now) is the hard to get in stores. This is also happening with Black Series and Marvel Legends. I watched a Target worker cut open and unpack a solid case of eight BS Death Watch Mandalorians.
>>
>>10066699
So it's the summer of flint and lj again? The store I work has had real brisk movement on the current wave, but if it's solid cases of one figure this retro line will clog up pegs like the last retro wave of grunt and troopers. Damn I wish jazwares had the Joe license, not because the figures would be better but maybe the decision making would be better.

Exactly. I have a couple of o-ring figures that friends got me when they found out I was "into" joes and all of them (except Crazylegs) are kind of *meh* I still have the 15 or so Star Wars figures I bought (or shoplifted) and they have sentimental value but they don't really "come out and play".
Heck I just bought two Death Star Droids on Dorkside and I am so happy with the articulation compared to the original. At $4.99 a pop I'm tempted to buy more and kit them out with ammo pouches, belts and weapons.
>>
>>10066298

Changing O-rings out is literally the easiest shit to do, ever.
>>
>>10068144
Yeah but why do it when it's bad?
>>
>>10068142
I am quite sentimental about my GI Joes because at the time they were great action figures. Like He-man's T-joint though, the O-ring was a major design flaw, and the hands should have been molded in a more flexible plastic. At least it's way easier to replace an O-ring than a T joint though.

I think the RAH line is still absolutely a hall-of-fame worthy toy, but they weren't made to last forever. Anything with rubber parts is going to fall to dry rot eventually, and that's a sad fact of toy collecting.

I saw the "retro" 6" Baroness & Lady Jaye at Walmart today. I'm not sure what's different about LJ from her first release, it looks like fewer parts, no hair & less colors. Baroness is just classic 80s colors, pointlessly has removable glasses leaving big skull divots. But I tend to see the Cobra Island version on eBay cheap so I may get that anyway for the bike. Thanks for the stand though, I guess? Companies don't usually include them anymore despite 99% of modern figures barely standing up on their own. Lots of plastic packaging though for the "we cut plastic to save 1 cent per bo- I mean to save the environment" mentality.
>>
>>10069332
Overall these "retro" toys are an excuse to resell older molds with less paint & fewer accessories. No extra hands at all. Just "it's like the original toy" budgeting but sold at the same retail price. Baroness doesn't even get her retro backpack because that would mean new tooling, but they gave you an extra gun(the pistols were essential to fill her belt holsters). They're straight up taking advantage of people who missed the first releases

>>
>>10069583
Yea, no shot of Classified fitting those tanks.

Also, they really need better options for figures for that Selfie crap. Hopefully between Covergirl and the future Female Troopers, basic Cobra Troopers and Joe Greenshirts will become options.

Otherwise, I'm hyped for pretty much everything they showed off today. RnR looks great and I'm glad he's not a solid green figure. Falcon's shotgun seems to have a folding stock, which is just fantastic, though the backpack seems to be a big solid chunk. But otherwise, all these figures look fantastic and I can't wait to get them in hand....in about three years.

You know what's crazy, there was pretty much nothing new shown during the panel. The name reveals were new info, but besides that, we saw color renders of grey renders we already saw, and prototypes of color renders we saw before. The only surprise was Rock and Roll's deco. No new classified figures seen at all. Also no o-rings or new store exclusives. Complete waste of a panel.
>>
That was pretty shit
>>
>>10069633

I thought v1 Bazooka was a surprise, even though it was obvious they would do it at some point. But yeah the panel was shit. Very surprised they skipped O-ring completely.
>>
>>10069638
Maybe I'm misremembering, but I thought they already showed that off at one of the earlier panels.

I was at work during the stream but damn that'd look good flanking the cg which flanks the twins. I've got a head cannon where the vipers are most loyal to cc while guards are more loyal to the twins and destro. Not a huge cannon lore guy at this point in my life.
>>
>>10070058
There's so many competing versions of canon that you can make it up any way you want. I was never much a fan of the Twins so they're just kind of there for me. The CG are loyal to CC in my mind.

Here's an example of my head canon: I really liked how Serpentor was used in IDW - the cultist fanatic branch of Cobra, and his troops appeared to have Python Patrol colors so I'll use those figures to be his guards. And Serpentor is still below CC in my head because CC > Serpentor as a character.

>>
>>10070075
I definitely get the commander/serpentor angle. Felt that way my whole life, kinda. I like the pp as cultist angle too. The twins only caught my attention due to them being business men like destro, so of course, for me, they would have the elegant looking guard as their personal army while commander has the muchore utilitarian style vipers. Each group is as vicious and loyal as the other but they both approach the goal in wildly different ways.

Literally went from "premium only" to "sold out" within a minute on the UK Pulse site.

At least there's an "email when available" option, so he may be going back on sale at some later point, but it looks like they drastically underestimated demand.
>>
>>10070162
I'd like to think Hasbro would be more in the business of trying to sell as much of their product to as many people as possible, rather than creating rare limited edition toys that will reach insane prices on the secondary market, and they won't see any of that re-sale profit. But sometimes it does seem like they prefer the second option.
>>
They're already up on BBTS. I just got the B.A.T.s there.
>>
>>10070162
Are Hasbro Employees scalping them on ebay for personal profit?

>>
>>10070189
python patrol is going straight to ollies
>>
>>10070152
It will a few times just like all their other hot items. Doesn't mean it won't sell out as fast but they will do restocks. One that always happens is three to six months after it's been released as they hold onto a few cases as spares for exchanges if a customer got one that was broken or poor QC. They almost never use that full 6+ cases of stock so the remaining go up for sale.
>>
>>10070196
Yeah well I'm not going to keep the rest of my orders based on 100 chariots going up on pulse 3 months from now. This was THE vehicle I had as a kid, if I can't have the classified version of it I honestly don't think I want anything else in the line.
>>
Did Falcon and Cover Girl go to the same plastic surgeon?
>>
>>10070204
for sure but don't give up on the set either anon. Hell keep checking the link cause if they get cancellation they usually do list them back up for sale. I learned very early that just having the link to the page bookmarked is a great way to catch when stealth restocks occur. It's how I grabbed my Mindbender and got my friend his TF Cosmos. I believe you'll get your happy air chariot anon, don't give up.
>>
>>10070204
Modern toy collecting is slavery to plastic. Old toys you'd walk in a store and be able to find stuff. Now you must be there minute 1 or you missed it.
>>
>>10070214
looks like they were trying to get Falcon to look like he did in the Film 1 for 1 and things went a bit squirrely translating that to 3D
>>
>>10070214
This has to be the single ugliest face hasbro has made. Its somehow even managed to beat that sue storm.
>>
>>10070214
That terrible face is the only reason I ordered 1 instead of 2. Jesus it's bad
>>
>>10070223
>Old toys you'd walk in a store and be able to find stuff.
As a 46yo man I can tell you that is the ultimate bullshit. A lot of hot and in demand toys would be impossible to find. Wanted Snake eye in 82? Good luck, most shelves were drowning in Cobra Trooper, Scarlet, Grunt/Zap and Stalker. I loved chrome dome Cobra Commander, how'd I have to get him? I had to get "flag points" off of other figures I had to get my parents to buy to then get mailed away in postage(that had to be paid). Oh or I would have had to convince my parents to spend on a Sears only overpriced missile command station/base cardboard thing that came with him and two troopers that was only available until December where it was cleaned out as they made so few.

This isn't even getting into the other hells of high demand figures of the 80s like the original Optimus Prime. You have no idea how much better things are now.
>>
>>10070221
Not the same anon, but I'd probably never have gotten into GI Joe so much without Serpentor, that original toy, and the comic story that introduced him. Hasbro making it this difficult to get him is massively demoralizing.
>>
>>10070252
This is neither an excuse nor make everyone happy, but I think it's a safe bet they will make this Serpentor in single card fashion without the Chariot. Another high likelihood is "retro" version with said chariot. Hasbro rarely uses a mold just once anymore.
>>
>>10070255
Exactly. They've stated before nothing should be impossible to get but corporate won't let them work on re-issues until the supply chain is fixed. They've stated a single card Mindbender is coming so Serpentor with less accessories and chariot will happen as well.
>>
>>10070214
George "Falcon" McFly
>>
>>10070255
>>10070261
That's better than nothing, but could be years away at the rate the line is going. But even that box art is such a massive love letter to Serpentor's cartoon and comic history that I want to have it.

I'm not really sure what you could change for a "retro" version of the Air Chariot except the guns.
>>
>>10070262
holy kek it does look like Crisper Glover
>>
>>10070269
>I'm not really sure what you could change for a "retro" version of the Air Chariot except the guns.

I didn't mean to imply they change anything outside of colors and the box art. That's basically all their Walmart Retro Classifieds are is just the same Classified figure but with slight/no changes in mold, just color and accessories. Basically it be packed in pic related but is the same toy.
>>
>>10070287
I get what you mean now, but I'm also being forced to realize that if I'd managed to get this version of Serpentor and the Air Chariot, I'd probably also buy a retro version even if the only difference was the original-style guns.
>>
>>10070299
I feel ya as I have done that with characters I really like but consider that -if- they do a retro chariot it's still likely years away.
>>
>>10070189
I'm going off of the pulse date on the officer. Pulse was always later than retail for me on anything that wasn't a transformer.
>>
>>10070302
On the subject of different releases of the same character, if I already have the original Snake Eyes & Timber pack, is the second version worth getting?
>>
>>10070372
if you have the single release from wave one? not really, no, unless you really just want another wolf mold.
>>
>>10070114
Is there a hierarchy as to which of Cobra High Command has which troops?
>>
>>10070435
Destro has his Iron Grenadiers as a separate force to Cobra, Tomax and Xamot are the Crimson Guard commanders, none of the other troops are really canonically linked to high command characters like Cobra Commander, Serpentor, the Baroness or Mindbender, except maybe the Crimson Guard Immortals, IIRC they're meant to be Cobra Commander's personal guard, while the Fred series Crimson Guards from the comics were undercover agents that were directly loyal to him.

>>10070469
I've always seen the twins as sort of "Elite" Crimson Guards, in that in public they're the legal face of Cobra, working legitimate jobs and being generally upstanding normal citizens. But behind the scenes they're the ultimate spies and saboteurs, and lead the Crimson Guard as a whole under the direct command of Cobra Commander.

Destro on the otherhand isn't actually a member of Cobra, he's just their weapon supplier. He has his own company, M.A.R.S. Industries, and his Iron Grenadiers are his personal PMC. So while not officially following the orders of Cobra Commander, Destro does see him as a valuable customer in both selling weapons and providing military services through the IGs.

Similarly, the Drednoks are just a bunch of redneck, backwoods mercenaries Cobra hires.

As for using Python Patrol figures as Serpentor's personal troops...that's actually kind of genius and I am now made at myself for not building a PP team when I had the chance. Though usually I kind of ignore Serpentor as I never really cared for him, but this figure and his chariot turned out so damn nice I kind of just broke and felt I had to have him. Maybe I'll get lucky when they actually start shipping and they'll get restocked for a bit. With just one of each figure (I believed they've done Officer, Viper and BAT so far) I'd have enough for a small Personal Guard team for Serpentor.

I'd like to think Blowtorch will come with a flame bloosh accessory but he probably won't. Hopefully an enterprising third party makes one.

Hell, my dream would be to have a flame bloosh that has red and yellow LEDs inside. Maybe with flickering.
>>
>>10070214
The cardboard box seems like such an awful downgrade. It's clearly a cost cutting measure too and has nothing to do with the environment. You know how I know this? Because the die-hard collector autists are going to start making custom boxes with windows, which means they will be buying plastic, which means some of the plastic will end up being leftover and the leftovers will end up in the garbage.

Hasbro is only doing this because they see an opportunity to shortchange their customers while getting access to that sweet sweet ESG woke investment money. At least for now it's just cardboard boxes and not gender reassignment surgery for the characters.
>>
>>10070835
For most lines, I'd agree with you. But for G.I. Joe, I think it works because now they get to really show off the individualized artwork for each figure. It was nice on the older boxes, but was barely there, now it's front and center and really comes off as a feature. Though Falcone does have one of the weaker pieces of art.

As for people making "custom bubble cards", that's on them so not really Hasbro's fault or problem. They're saving on their end and that's all the care about. Though I'm sure the five or so people who make their own Bubble cards wouldn't cause nearly as much waste as if Hasbro made them.
>>
>>10070214
His watch is on the wrong hand on the box art. F minus minus.
>>
So I just had a realization.

Hasbro has already done a Transformers X Street Fighter cross over.

Just recently they did a Power Rangers x Street Fighter cross over.

So what other in house Hasbro line can potentially do a cross over with Street Fighter?

G.I. Joe.

They could easily do Chun-Li, Guile, M. Bison and Ryu based on their original G.I. Joe x Street Fighter designs. Because doing so would mean they could come out with Ninja Force Scarlet, Road Pig, IG Destro and Slice.

Sell em as one offs or two packs, I'd probably buy all of em.
