Honestly, I hate Forge World for the most part, but my favourite were the Elysians.

>‘We aren’t going back.’

>‘It is a common misconception that anger increases a body’s unit strength. It does not.’

>Dumaar’s hand clamped over Rauth’s fist, breaking the blade in half and crushing the bionics of his hand up to the radial and ulnal stress rods. With a cry of pain, Rauth allowed himself to be driven to his knees. The Apothecary stared down at him, a chirurgeon assessing a gangrenous limb. Dumaar was the oldest Iron Hand in the Chapter, and the strongest. He was legendary. Rauth could only scream as the ligaments and flexrods melding the augmetic limb to his organic shoulder wrenched slowly apart and colour spots burst across his eyes. ‘Variant of the Mark twenty-five-delta forelimb augment. Plasteel-nickel alloy with aluminium gearing. Apothecary Geraint’s favoured specification. Lightweight. As is Clan Dorrvok’s preference.’ He tightened his grip, the metallic forearm squealing under the Apothecary’s crushing grip. Rauth’s vision swam as stimulants flooded his blood-brain barrier in a bid to keep him from passing out. ‘Flawed. Highly flawed.’

>Rauth tried to pull away, but Dumaar held him by his own useless bionic. The fight was leaking out of him, droplets of red splashing onto the deck. Even Space Marine clotting factors and pain suppressors could only push a body so far.

>‘Flesh is weak,’ he muttered.

>‘Your statement is non-revelatory,’ said Dumaar.

>Rauth bared bloody teeth as Dumaar raised his bolt pistol. Take it then. Take the Dawnbreak Technology and be damned. He laughed suddenly as he stared along the Apothecary’s pistol muzzle. ‘I’m laughing at you,’ Rauth spat. ‘And you’ll never understand why.’

>‘I don’t care to,’ replied Dumaar, shooting him in the face.

How strong are the magnet sheets you people use for magnetized storage? Do they hold well with neodymium magnets or no?
I've got a weird sized case and don't want to cut foam for it, but it would be perfect sized for a few magnetized kill teams.

>>
>>88991543
Those sheets are really good, m8.
I had a few from GSW, those that are pre-cut out and you just glue them to the bottom of the base.
Thing is, since the base is hollow and that shit doesn't have surface area in the middle to glue to, it doesn't stick that well.

Or rather, the magnets would stick just fine. The base would just slide off.
So I started cutting sprues, supergluing them inside the hollow bases and then supergluing the magnet cut outs.
Then I just place them against those magnetic sheets and since the surface area is so "spread" instead of a single magnet point sticking out, there's no drift.
I could throw that box up and down and spin the fuck out of it, and my models don't go off flying.
>>

VMC medium olive base coat, athonian camoshade, layer medium olive, layer 60:40 mix of medium olive:VGC goblin green, glaze straight goblin green highlights, glaze 40:60 goblin green:VGC moon yellow fine highlights (pretty much just ear tips, edges of lips, knuckles/elbows).

Grots get the same formula but the base coat starts with the medium olive:goblin green mix, or just straight goblin green for snotlings, and I for highlights and fine highlights I'm much further into the yellow for the ratios, close to 80:20 for fine highlights.

everyone seems to be fairly positive about the tau preview but the more I look at it the worse it seems.

-new markerlight rule is almost strictly worse than the old one (for farsight)
-farsight won't even be playable for months
-new old twin linked rule bigly limits firepower you can bring
-several previewed weapons lost assault
-some previewed weapons lost attacks
-hammerhead still doesn't have submunition profile
-shield drone change bigly reduces survivability vs anti-vehicle weapons which have gotten stronger edition wide
-cover change reduces battlesuit survivability
-ion weapons are still just renamed plasma
-jsj will probably be a stratagem again
+you can get bs2+ on your railguns without having to use longstrike

bros I just want to use my gundams I don't want another edition of jumping guys in and out of the devilfish

I think it'd work well for a noblebright or even a nobledark setting, maybe? Probably a bit better for a more noblebright.
A more better and positive version of 40k.

I could see the Imperium still be ruled by the Emperor, but he doesn't get interned into the Golden Throne and is still alive but he still has the God-Emperor moniker for himself.
And all of the primarchs are his demigod sons he had with his wife Erda, the mother of the Imperium.
And this version of the Gods would be the Gods of Order, I guess? And they'd basically be the patron deities of the Imperium of Mankind.

I think how the Imperium would work is that the Emperor would basically be viewed like how Pharoes in ancient Egypt were, ie. like actual living gods who are descendants of the Egyptian god Horus.

I guess it could be pretty cool and interesting version.
But that's just my own personal opinion.

I feel like Sisters' players reactions to Eldar is a little overblown; we still don't have all the info to see just how better or worse they'll be.

The stuff they released for the Triumph is pretty dope, rules-wise, though! The amount of MD manipulation you're going to get from her is insane, and it looks like she'll be able to squad up. I'm hoping I'll get to rock her with a full retinue of Sacresants. Should be beastly.

Only the gun drone was shown to be twin linked so far.. were you really bringing gun drones as a majority of your firepower? You don't even know the points cost yet
>Assault
So has many many other weapons
>Shield drones
It was needed so they can balance units instead of balancing the units under the assumption they will have 4+ shield drones

We've seen so little that it's difficult to make speculations yet.

The only real pain point is forcing us to choose Kauyon and play cagey.
>>
>>88991879
it's looking like beyond suboptimal at this point since the index detachment rule doesn't even kick in until turn 3 and you don't even have assault weapons anymore

Could have it that the Chaos gods still exist, but have yin and yang kinda entities to themselves. There's Khorne the god of blood and skulls, but also Khorne the god of harvest and patron of warriors. Two warp entities that split from the same idea and emotion but represent diametric opposites. That way you could have the gods of order for the imperium and gods of chaos for well... chaos.
Wouldn't want this for 40k proper for sure, but as an alt-universe it could be fun.
>>
>>88991896
I'm positive that they're going back to the old rules where if you take the same weapon more than once it becomes twin linked and you can't take a 3rd at all. if I'm wrong I will drink a bottle of paint thinner.

Beautiful work there!
I love the eyes, not quite brave enough to try the blue glow on mine.
And yeah, youre right we dont have the full rules, but I still feel frontloaded dice are stronger than our drip feed. As for the Triumph, its just a downer to me that its now 'pick 2 relics' instead of getting all 6 which then degrade down. It's a shame, even if it was complex. Her and a squad of sacresants sounds like an unkillable mass to charge up centrefield though.
>>88991901
Assault weapons are gone for almost everything and yeah, unless we've still got the weird rule that gives 'aura' buffs to the range of a dice in inches, a 1 or 2 is literally unuseable for us. There may be a 'spender' that lets us combine dice maybe? Turning a 3 into a 4, at the cost of a 1 would be useful perhaps?

Triumph and Cherubs are two of the ways shown to be able to cycle MD into better shit, and you can still use low MD to trigger the +1A and +1W bonuses by managing casualties.

I fully imagine Elite Characters are going to provide a huge boost to MD manipulation, since that's going to be the only thing we really have until a codex is released.

I'm pretty excited.

Is 3d printing minis something that is viable?
I don't have much money, and I want to get into 40k. I do however have access to 10 or so 3d printers at my university that basically sit unused 90% of the time. Feels dumb to pay 40 dollars for a piece of plastic.

Yes but depending on your department the printer might not be ideal. If you are an engineer the printers will probably be PLA or ABS which can have quite rough surfaces, you would rather find a resin printer for minis
>>
>>88992198
Yes, 3d printing is viable. But for best results you'd need a resin printer with at least a 2k screen, plus the time and effort to get the prints to come out right. I suspect your university's printers are not resin and not really suited for printing minis.
>>
>>88992198
You still need money for paints and stuff anon. But if your friends are okay with you using printed models, and you're happy pirating the rules online, 3d printing models will cost you pennys on the dollar. Just be aware you might not be able to play in game stores if they frown on proxies.

Definitely resin. You need to clean and post-cure once it is done printing but it's a pretty simple process. You can probably get away with 6-8 paints and 2-3 brushes, clippers, super glue and a hobby knife without needing anything else for 90% of the army. If your uni doesn't charge for use of printers or materials that's maybe £30-£50 depending how cheap you go for a full army, not too bad really

Resin printers are easier to use than most of the other types. Unless something is fucked up with your file or your settings it's just 1 button and done, rarely needs calibrated after you get the settings dialed in. Learning to support your own models can be a bit of a task but not awful.

These particular hobby youtubers always give off this what the zoomers say "vibe" that they portray themselves as such good people that it seems like they're hiding something really awful.

Does anybody else get that impression? Sometimes I hate the internet for bringing such patterns to light. Can't be a nice person without raising suspicion nowadays online.

It should have been 1 bolt sniper-whatever captain, 1x10 infiltrators, 2x3 eliminators, 1 stormspeeder, 1 repulsor transport.

That would have been a cool skirmisher force that non-ravenguard could also buy. Instead we got only the bad units no one purchased to clear stock.

Crimson Fists are the anti-ork space marines. They're always getting slaughtered by orks in desperate last stands.

White Scars also gets contrasted with orks a lot because their gimmick is moving around like horsemen and chopping the enemy down with melee speed stuff to overcome the enemy's numbers (which requires a horde enemy) and break their morale (which doesn't work if enemy has no morale like necrons/tyranids)

White Scars vs say cultists, would just look silly, you can just ride straight through them it's not all heroic.
>>
>>88992621
No one associates Space Hulk with TYRANIDS as a whole, they associate it with Genestealers specifically.
>>
>>88992543

Depends if they show off Kabalites (one of the shittiest troops in the game) or Incubi (some of the best elites in the game) for the infantry preview.
Dark Eldar don't have a supreme commander (Vect hasn't had rules in 13 years) so their big unit preview will probably Drazhar or Lelith, even if the Raider is the most important thing to see how good the faction will actually be.

god, they still haven't come close to sold out yet. The way you know not to buy a GW box is if it's limited release and then 7-8 months later they still haven't been able to sell them so they're still on the shelf. That tells you it's objectively TERRIBLE.

The good boxes sold out within the first 6 hours. The okay boxes sold out within the first 48 hours.

Ravenguard, Fists and the Admech box still haven't sold out 5000 hours later. CMOGames is trying to get rid of the garbage so hard they're selling them for $165 instead of the launch $178 and still hasn't gotten rid of them. (Meanwhile, websites raised the good forces to $195 discount and $230 msrp)
>>
>>88992727
Aim for small games at least in the near term, kill team or just combat patrol size.

Buy minis second hand and or save, build and paint 1 kit at a time. Even setting aside 20 a month can manage it. You're just not going to have a big army over a weekend.
>>
>>88992727
If you're okay getting second hand armies, space marines are super cheap on ebay because there are just so many.
>>
>>88992730
You can shut up now, you already lost the argument. Everybody has already told you how it really is. Space Hulk Deathwing literally sold more copies than the board game by a very wide margin and has way more exposure. That's reality, you are just a delusional dumbfuck child.
>>
>>88992744
I understand the reasoning for it, but seriously fuck Blood Angels, they are by far the snowflake-iest chapter.

>We have the best psykers
>and two of the longest living non-dreadnought'd marines
>and we have some of the best melee specialists, we don't even want to be that good at melee it's a curse :(
>our daddy was a good daddy he died holding the gate

They don't deserve to have a cool xenos arch-enemy, they can go wank off in the corner with the Black Legion or something. They continually fuck up and die whenever they come up against Tyranids anyways, if they really were their arch-enemy you think they'd do something special to merit it like, I don't know, dedicate a portion of their forces to specially training in anti-Tyranid tactics.

Tyranids always win ultimately because even if they die they can just consume their dead again afterwards as well as all the defenders of the planet and always have a net gain in biomass.
Anything that either doesn't leave any biomass behind or uses weapons that disintegrate with antimatter and the the like would cause Tyranids to have pyrrhic victories at best.

As said elsewhere resin is pretty much required for good infantry results. You can get decent looking tanks (particularly the blocky imperium ones, probably less so Eldar grab tanks) with a FDM printer - just be aware you won't get the smooth finishes on the armour that you'd expect from resin unless your fdm printers are doing very small layer lines with a fine tip and are well calibrated.

3d printing is fun but it has a tendancy to become a hobby of its own (they are usually not plug and play, constant little adjustments are needed for good results) distracting from your initial intent, so keep that in mind. Personally I buy 3d prints from others locally and don't mind paying the slight premium for someone else to handle the hassle

truth. Blood Angels are the 2nd mary-sue chapter after Matt Ward ruined ultramarines.

Read shitty BL books "omg blood angels headshot with every single bullet they're magical", but also be the flying chapter and the marine chapter and the melee chapter and the psychic chapter and the all variants of tank and dreadnought chapter.

Weaknesses is just some emo vampire fanfiction written by 12 year olds.

They're even more boring than ultramarines because of it. Ultramarines are vanilla which means you can add other flavors, but blood angels is vanilla that you added vamp fanfiction to so it's impossible to change the flavor as it's already picked.

If you just want to collect models, just scrounge up some money for a box and some basic paint supplies, a clipper, some plastic glue, and a utility box cutter knife. The paint kits aren't an awful first purchase because even if you dont want to play the models in the kit, it gives you a chance to see if you like painting or assembling. You can also brutally fuck up those paint jobs and learn off of how badly you did.

If you intend on playing the game, find out if your game store has cool people or if the spergs there have redeeming qualities, you need people who are fun to be around. Also do not expect the game to play like an RTS, there are tactical choices but army lists and terrain matter a lot, and if you bring a casual list to the table when the opponent brought something with a goal, you are going to be snapped in half on turn 1 and you will feel like shit

they were extremely powerful the moment they came out in 9th due to the fact that they are very good at running at the enemy screaming, dying, and then taking the enemy with them, and when doing so, scoring on their unique secondary objectives (which is how you win the game besides standing on control points and not being tabled). They suffer from what almost all the CSM god legions suffer from, not having many units in their book, so they usually play one way and there's a couple workhorse unit you are almost expected to bring that will feel like auto includes.

They also lost a lot of stuff they could take for years from the CSM book, you can always play them off as Brazen beasts or crimson slaughter if your dudes were those colors, and you can still run zerkers in CSM as elites, but its a strange feeling.

Huron, hopefully with options to be a generic lord like the Dark angel kit was for Lazarus. Exalted Champion needs a new model too - they dont even sell the current one despite baking in it's exact wargear loadout. Jump pack lord needs to be PUT BACK INTO THE GAME. Defiler needs a new refresh despite that not being an HQ, the chaos predator getting the Sister treatment wouldn't be awful either but that's not happening

>that’ll at least be viable to play for a couple years
Either you have not been paying attention to how GW does things, or you are new to the hobby.
Shit does not happen. Post 8th ed everything turned into flavor of the month, at BEST you will pick an army that will not be utter dog shit, but will only be viable if you run one specific build of it and nothing else. Which if that one specific build of that army is not what got you into it, then you are just gonna be upset because the reason you picked the army just means you are gimped.

Furthermore, its a total crapshoot if your army will not turn into that.
>>

Like, for a really really long time there you could not make a viable tsons list with rubriks or SOT, you had to do bullshit tzengor spam, which got corrected sure, but you are basically rolling the dice on if that happens for your army.

Anyone knew should get into the part o the hobby that makes them happy, be it painting, building, assembling, playing what ever it is.
If you just buy an army thats the flavor of the month because it will dick stomp every one, thats not good for the hobby as a whole, and a shitting it up.

>>
>>88993502
a few problems with this, the main one being you don’t know who the waacfags are until you’ve played them, and as a new player you’re not sure what playstyles are waac and what’s “fluffy”
>>
>>88993449
>Not everyone you play against is going to build for casual games, and likely will be expecting to fight optimized lists in their pub games at the store and building their own army with that in consideration.
This is why its important to communicate with other players what kind of game you're looking to play beforehand.

There's literally nothing stopping you from bringing skew lists to casual night, but that doesn't mean that other armies are shit, just that you're looking to play at the expense of others, not actually play with others.
>>
>>88993514
If you are someone that runs a netlist or a over tuned bullshit FOTM army against someone brand new to the game, with out telling them, its a bullshit list, you are in fact, a shit head and would be better off for everyone if you were not in the hobby.
>>88993526
>>88993526

send a kid into a forest you know is full of lions
send a new player into a hobby you know is full of waacfags

>>
>>88993539
Anon your metaphor is shit because one is about life and death, not something someone does for entertainment and fun.

You absolutly can remove WAAC fags, you say "I dont wanna play with you." and thats it, you dont need to prepare, you dont need to do shit, you just say "Oh no thank you im not looking to fight your list."

no one is arguing that someone preying upon a new player is a good thing retard, the point is if you tell them to follow their bliss they build up unrealistic expectations which very easily do not align with reality. >>
>>88993566
you know what i lied it is a good metaphor because it shows that you are way to fucking serious about a game around plastic toy solider.

The fact that your entire baseline mentality is. "Well i gotta go in with the best list to fight the other best lists and not get dick stomped right off the bat." kinda shows that the reason yo uare in the hobby is specifically for the game not the rest of it.
There is a lot more to the miniature hobby then 40k games.
>>88993574
again, see above, there is a lot more to the hobby then just playing games and the fact that people are in here, not able to see that you should be looking at the hobby for what makes you happy, not just "I GOTTA FUCKING WIN." is going to result in you enjoying the hobby far more, for far longer, because winning games only is enjoyable for so long.
>>
>>88993591
I can tell you’re retarded because you immediately think the metaphor is about losing games and not losing interest in the hobby, the fact that I even have to explain this to you is baffling to me
>>
>>88993600
The fact that you would tell someone dont buy the army that makes you happy, buy the army that wins, is whats baffling, because you are promoting the idea that 40k is just about winning games.
>>
>>88993607

you are repeatedly failing to demonstrate reading comprehension and arguing with imaginary people in your own head, the other anon is not saying "become a waacfag or perish". Ton of better looking models, which are cheaper, then GW stuff. Want to read scifi? There is a ton of better stuff, then what BL is producing.

if someone is starting it is better for them to play a WAAC army and a WAAC faction. It will carry them, will make the learning time fun. Anyone who goes after esthetics will spend ton of models and potentialy never have fun playing the game. Which is like in the name of the darn thing. w40k is a table top game.
