What's the point of this? It's so lightly armed for an assault.
>>88978783Gotta go fast.
>>88978783Also weapon rules between MWDA and TW differ, so two light autocannons might've originally been an okay loadout.
>>88978783The purpose is pic related. This is not some sort of commentary; the purpose is literally to facilitate autists in their screeching.
>>88978783It's got a targeting computer so you can actually hit things with the two UAC-5's and Large Lasers. Also 4/6 AINT FREEGOTTA SPEND 10 TONS ON JUMPJETSTHE FALCONS MUST FLY
>>88978889Someone should make a version of this for the Charger. "5/8 isn't free..."
>>88978783If you have to ask you wouldn't get it
Nova Catgirl pics when?>and don't give me that gay "off topic" bullshit. This is a Nova Cat thread, posting pics of Nova Cats is by definition on topic.
>>88979489Sorry boss, closest I got is a picture of Nicky
>>88979609I know that expression. DO NOT TOUCH TUMMY
>>88979658Wrong. Nicky is full of love and will allow all tummy touch.
>>88978783
So this has probably been asked a million times over the last week because of the humble book bundle, but what are some recommended novels/series? My interest drops off about mid-jihad era but I'm willing to read further ahead if it's good.Been in the hobby for half a decade but never bothered with anything i couldn't read on Sarna.
>>88978827Light autocannons were really fucking good in DA. It's why the Jupiter is outloaded like it is, why the original Rokuro had an LBX2, so on.
>>88979847Start at the beginning. Production order, like Gundam.
>>88979847>>88971338On a tangentially related note, what the hell's happened to The Sword and The Dagger?
>>88978510pretty excited, I ordered a 5-pack each of 6mm LAV-25s and BMP-3s. all I need now is for my 6mm GAR clone troopers to arrive in the mail and I can start making my mercenary company's infantry hexes
>>88979938size comparison with a Commando in case you guys want to know how big they are against a smaller mech
>>88979934>The Sword and The Dagger?Never republished, never epub converted. That's why it's like $100 apiece.
>>88979913Sounds sensible.Got a site that shows the production order in an easy list format? going to every books individual webpage would be a chore.
>>88979938>>88979952as an aside, I didn't realize how much larger BMP-3s were than LAV-25s, the fact that the former are tracked and the latter are wheeled should have given me some hint but it didn't occur to me to check until the minis were side-by-side
>>88979934Thanks, that's very helpfull
>>88979968https://www.sarna.net/wiki/List_of_BattleTech_Print_Novels_and_Anthologies
I'm here to remind this thread that the Jenner is for bitch ass niggas and that the Rattlesnake is the true mech of the Aryan warrior
>>88979680Holy shit, I never thought I'd see the day. Someone on /BTG/ has proven themselves capable of being loved by something other than their own hand.
>>88979847See NEAs post from last thread.
>>88980078That Jenner looks like the dildo Shimmy uses on himself.
>>88980114Sir that is a Rattlesnake, do not misgender my mech you faggot
>>88979953Cranston Snord has it for the asking...
>>88980114Hey, fuck you buddy. That's not true. That Jenner isn't black.
>>88979953It's also terrible
>>88980078>7 medium lasersFeeling very creative today are we?Also>true mech>still uses the JR7 name
>>88980113Somebody already linked the post further up in the thread.Still appreciated.
Name a better Battletech novel, /btg/
>>88980145>7 medium lasers>medium lasers are some of the best weapons in the game stat wise>7 is a the number of completion>it can also jump 7 hexesTruly a blessed mech. The Jenner wishes it was as perfect
>>88980124>>88980119But we're all in agreement that Shimmy jams that foam rubber monstrosity he call LeBron in his anus over and over and over again until it is covered in blood, feces, and his shattered dreams of being a real artist and then fellates it, saying "support the company" between bouts of going ass-to-mouth by himself, right?
>>88980161Laughs in "Heir to the Dragon"
I swear the longer it goes the more weirdly obsessed that Shimmy poster gets.
>>88980235>88980235pretty sure it's a bit
>>88980078>ML spamI see that the Aryan Warrior is a fag.
>>88980168Yes, you got why I was calling it a kinda boring laser vomit design that would at best be a Jenner variant or a slightly faster Fire Javelin.
If a mech with an arrow iv davy crockett got hit in the ammo bin, what would happen?
>>88980246Not really. I well and truly detest what he and others of the same "talent" have done to the designs we had for decades. I won't celebrate when the crippling depression that comes with knowing he is just a cheap hack of an "artist" causes him to neck himself, but I also won't mourn his passing.
>>88980277Not much in real life. But this is a setting where Stackpole Rules and the Phantom BattleMech ability exist, so who knows.Write to CGL and ask them.
>>88980291What just email them about it?
>>88980302That anon can ask for you when he mails himself to their hq
>>88980302Yeah."Dear CGL, what happens when a Davy Crockett Arrow IV ammo bin gets hit?"
>>88980277Ammo go boom
>>88980326Boom as in a normal ammo explosion boom or boom as in I hope you have some iodine pills handy boom?
>>88980332Well how much damage does the bomb do? That's how much damage your mech takes now.Unless you want to rule it detonates as per normal nuke rules in which case not just your mech goes boom but everyone does.
/btg/'s thoughts on the Original German-Language BattleTech Books?
>>88980280The designs we had for decades were absolute shit 80% of the time. Shim is nowhere near the best mecha designer but to pretend it's not at least an improvement is delusion
>>88980358Vintage minis generally aged like milk.
>>88980358Don't argue with the guy who will repeat the same thing every time while unaware of half the art or minis, old and new, made for BT.
>>88980235Don't you know, >this is why we can't have nice things!+>Oh they changed it now it sucksAND>Oh they didn't change it, it still sucks. These contrarian faggots are never happy with anything forever.
>>88980391Oh I'm well away of what the art and minis from the 80s and 90s looked like. At least they didn't look like a cookie-cutter design with the exact same blocks, angles, greeblies, thick hips, fucked up windows, and box mounted lasers on every single design like some artists I know can only do.
>>88980358You gotta admit though, the original silly jenner is top.
>>88980411You forgot>I love everything about BattleTech, now let's change it allplayers like you and the rest of Shimmy's taintlickers deserve the troon invasion.
>>88980346Why's that Orion got his big boy pants on
>>88980428k
>>88980445Just look at the rules.
>>88980196This.
>>88980346So does the orion have the srm4 in the torso or arm
>>88980450Big boy mission to go on.>>88980481Yes
>>88980346Funny story. See the author? That's an english author who delivered an english manuscript. So even though we didn't get them for years after the Germans because of Roc fuckery, we got the original versions.
>>88980332There is an extra rule to say big enough ammo explosions effect hexes around them depending on how much damage it does. By normal rules only the mech hit takes the explosion, but if you REALLY WANNA HAVE FUN...
Welp, email is sent, I'll post the response if/when I get one
Do any unironic clan wolf fans exist?
>>88980564Too lazy to open tacops or whatever?
>>88980428Even if you think it's too samey, at least now the universe has some level of consistency in design philosophy compared to the shit buffet we had before. Plus now there's an actual level of technical competence, regardless of whether Shims aesthetic triggers your change-based autism fits.
>>88980591I like Clan Coyote and Ghost Bear, which I guess is just as milquetoast, depending on who you askhonestly, Wolf's existence is an annoying kind of understandable. there had to be a baseline Ultramarines Clan so that Stackpole could write about the Clans as a whole and have one for Phelan to go native with. I wish that it wasn't necessary, but c'est la vie
>>88980591i like them because they canonically have tons of mook garrison units so i can field shit like woodsman and orion iic
>ancestors move from the southeastern corner of North America to settle a new world>join the Terran Hegemony>eventually planet is conquered by the Draconis Combine after the fall of the Star League>now we end up learning all our old folk songs in Japanesehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxw8xg1lpp4Such is life with the Star League gone
>>88980449Please. Be MORE retarded. You fuck. Literally from the very beginning people have remonstrated with the terrible news of the minis and the awfulness of the casts of casts of casts of casts. You revisionist fuck.Only diehard tragics were EVER happy with the shit minis.Everyone else knew they were awful and cringey.
>>88980591Do any unironic MOC fans exist?Of course not. The only factions with genuine fans who aren't just being ironic and contrarian are Davions, Dracs, Ghost Bears, and Taurians. Everyone else are basically just NPCs larping like they're real people.
>>88980593I had a look through a bunch of the tacops books, BMM, and TW and didn't find a peep about it
>>88980591The writers, clearly
>>88980302There's a place on the official forum for questions for the devs. Odds are small you'll get an answer there, but larger than getting an answer anywhere else.
>>88980909You apologize to the Mighty Purple Bird RIGHT NOW!
>>88980879Second-best version of Dixie I've ever heard.
>>88980909I was a big Lyran fan until the retardation that was the Lyran Alliance. Then during the Civil War I got on board again. And then the retardation of the Dark Age.I feel like of all of the factions, the LyrCom probably makes the worst life choices. Though I guess that's kind of in keeping with lore?
I have half a lance currently and I don't know what else to put in it so I'd like some advice.Currently it is a Lynx 9Q and then a Viking 2F or 2G. I was thinking maybe a Crockett too but none of it's variants are particularly impressive even if the design is cool.>>88981006What's the best?
>>88980906>Only diehard tragics were EVER happy with the shit minis.Speaking of revisionism...You know, I remember reading the Dragon Magazine review of the BattleTech 3rd edition boxed set. They absolutely *raved* about the minis. "They look like they're going to march out of the box and take over the house". And those were the *plastic* minis, not even the Ral Partha sculpts. You know, the plastic minis that basically can't have their mold lines cleaned up, have immense voids, where the Marauder torsos don't line up, and the Griffins gun is actually detached from its hand and points upwards on the torso. In the context of 1985-1998, BattleTech minis were never worse than "industry standard". If there were issues, it was because of the underlying artwork, but the minis were absolutely never considered to be "shit".It wasn't until GW infantry plastics started getting good (not even the Catachans), and American audiences got mass-acquainted with Gundam (thanks to Toonami playing Gundam Wing around 2001 or so) that I ever even started hearing serious criticism about BattleTech minis. People were FINE with the Ral Partha sculpts for almost 20 years; we were just thrilled to HAVE minis, and for you to claim that "only diehard tragics were EVER happy with the shit minis" is zoomer-tier contrarian revisionism at its purest form. Honestly, I'm not even mad. I'm just disappointed in you. You know you're hopelessly exaggerating, and you're going to prove to be totally incapable of admitting your hyperbole in the posts to come.
>>88980449You are obsessive to the point of being mentally unwell. You need to step away from both the internet and battletech and try to regain a normal perspective.
>>88981022I don't care how big of retards the lyrans are, they have the coolest mechs and they will always be #1 in my book
This is your average Draconis Combine mechwarrior, and she cums everytime the foot of her DRG-1N crushes an innocent civilian.
>>88980931Sarna is a helpful reference for its bibliography if nothing else. Search for Arrow IV and under Alternative Ammunition Types it links to Davy Crockett. That takes you to the page on Standard Nuclear Weapons, with a paragraph on the Davy Crockett. That has a bibliography reference to Jihad Hotspots: 3070, where nuke rules were originally published.Or you can just look in Interstellar Operations, which is where all the rules for unusual stuff was collected and updated.
>>88981024>What's the best? You're not going to like it.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhSzuhdIkuEI'm not just saying this to be edgy and provocative, I like the jauntiness and how it's most of the way to being a military march. But also fuck the Confederacy.
>Get KS survey>3 hardback book sets are $10 cheaper than individual books but weren't available in the original add-ons and you can't take it back.Well, that's $30 down the fucking drain that could have been a force pack.>Got tricked into a another $220 to get all the merc challenge coins just so I can throw them in a another shitty box on the wall like the last set.>Have now spent 1K on this KSWhy am I such a whale?
>>88981078>Why am I such a whale?Your parents never told you that they were proud of you, so now you rely on materialism for your fulfillment.
>>88981093But they've always told me they were proud of me.I think it's that Battletech is the last franchise from my childhood that I haven't abandoned.
>>88981054Well ain't that a disappointment. Thanks anyway, never thought intops of all places was where this would be
>>88981025Fuck off you tragic boomer fuck. Your too old to post here.If you ever liked any Battletech mini up until Shimmy fixed everything, you were never a real fan and your sense of taste is shit. Battletech casts were never good.
>>88980078I will not tolerate Jenner slander on this good Christian board!
>>88981093NTA but don't call me out like that
>>88981093>so now you rely on materialism for your fulfillment.I can't even afford that.
>>88981132We see right through your disguise Shimmy.
>>88981072>spoilerThe greatest irony of Lost Causers is that the Confederate government officials and citizens outright hated the Confederacy itself by the wars end, and the Confederate population had long begun resenting the government for being structured around planter class at their personal expense, and the planters hated that the war ate into their profits. Outside of Forrest & Friends (and even then not so much) there really wasn't much love for the CSA until the early 20th century when most people had forgotten how much it suuuuucked being under them. Also pic related is my favorite mech because mine killed a Madcat once and for that he deserves all the praise he gets.
>>88980121Yep, got a copy in the trove if your interested in it.
>>88980161Actually Embers of War is a solid novel.
>>88981187That's a funny-looking Summoner.
>>889811871. Thunderbolt is best bolt.2. As someone with family from Texas so long ago it was fucking New Spain, we hated the Confederacy for sending everyone to die in bumfuck Virginia for a bunch of faggot East Texas cotton farmers. They even ran Sam Austin out on a rail. But then we had Sherman and Sheridan running the war in the West with the Buffalo Soldiers and "Let no mere charges of inhumanity tie their hands." Very grateful as a Texan not getting scalped as a family that has a literal monument that says "Murdered by Indians." But pretending one war was good and the tactics of the other is bad is the greatest hypocrisy. You don't get to feel sorry for the natives if you cheered the march to the sea.
>>88981223Not as good. Quality proto-Jihad novel though.
For anyone that has bought Humble Bundle book deals before, is it normal for them to be so badly organized when you get them?
>>88981187The Confederacy was a last ditch effort to make the inner circle of a conspiracy called the Knights of the Golden Circle very, very rich by establishing completely unrestricted slave enterprises that could maximize profit. Their original plan was to try and get the US to invade and conquer everything through the Caribbean and entire Gulf of Mexico (the "golden circle") to bring back the old colonial systems with little oversight. When that failed, they tried to break out as the confederacy and would have eventually tried to expand it South. They had also attempted to get control of Mexico and South American countries to bring back slavery. But yes, lost cause was literally invented decades after the fact. A ton of the confederate statues that got taken down a while ago weren't even a century old. There were a couple that had been raised very shortly after the war for reconcilliation purposes between veterans, but a ton were put up in the 1920s, 30s, or even 50s or 60s for political brownie points among anti-civil rights groups with no real ties to the confederacy other than geography.
>>88981250TBolt is best bolt indeed. And like every war, it was started so that the rich old men could keep their money, the poor young men got to fight and die for it, and they were convinced with propaganda that it was right and fighting to do so. Neither Billy Yank nor Johnny Reb really had a dog in that fight, the Northern states demanded the Southern states be kept in the Union so their access to raw good and their market for manufactured good be kept, and the slavery question really only mattered to the handful of people who actually owned them. The South was right to say they had the right to leave the Union, but they picked the wrong hill to die on. But they lost before shot one was fired simply because they couldn't supply their armies and the Northern one could. Like the old saying goes "amateurs study tactics, professional study logistics."
>>88981025Chocolate chip camo looking sexy as always. What's your recipe for it? And where did those pinup decals come from?
>>88981367>The South was right to say they had the right to leave the Union, but they picked the wrong hill to die on.You can really tell the reason by looking at their consitution. It's nearly identical to the union's, including the exact same laws around states being allowed to leave the country (IE, they can't), with the major changes almost all being about slavery alone. Confederate states weren't allowed to make any laws that could inhibit slavery in any way. All confederate states that existed or would ever exist must allow slavery in its most complete form. None of them got any extra rights. Seceding from the confederacy would result in the exact same situation that seceding from the union did.
>>88981420Makes it all the funnier that at the end of the war, all the confederate states got removed from the union and then readmitted as the military districts. Still a very interesting conflict that I wash there was more modern stuff about
>>88981348Considering the fucking French took Mexico during the Civil War, it wasn't a bad plan.
>>88981025SUUUREEEEE. Just liek they raved for every fucking mini from everyone.Because they exist to get you to buy things you fucking loser.I'm talking about the actual people, not the stupid fucking shills who professionally LIE their asses off for a living.
>>88981046Dcms hate women though. Ghost regiments would have her though.
New mech, what do you think?
>>88981187Just fucking stop.Razor has already comprehensively shat upon you leftoid revisionist schmucks.
>>88981367>the Northern states demanded the Southern states be kept in the UnionThe Confederacy literally attacked first? Hell the 'raw goods' the Confederacy provided was zilch by the middle of the war. The Confederacy fought for one thing, and one thing alone. To expand slavery, no matter what. It was never about leaving the union, or markets, or anything else except trying to force slavery on everyone else.>>88981550The DCMS hates everyone. Including each other, just as their forefathers did in the second world war.
>>88981025>IWM minis
>>88981564Boring energy boat/10Go put some ammo on it.
>>88981571>The Confederacy literally attacked first?I wouldn't consider a Carolina island "Union Territory" after the succession, nor would most people. It was a good enough excuse for Lincoln to get the party started though.
>>88981571>The Confederacy literally attacked firstAu contraire mon ami, people even at the time saw that Lincoln had used the situation to start the war without being the aggressor. So you are technically right, but I wanted to use that french phrase.Basically the union had for the most part been abandoning military bases in the south, but in sumter they didn't. He even sent over a warship with orders not to fire all to goad the confederacy into attacking. And considering that "honest" Abe was a railroad lawyer before politics, it's not surprising.Anyway are there any decent post helm stalkers or grasshoppers? Those two seem to get a bit shafted as most of their later variants kind of stink
>>88981564that's nice bateman, but that's nothing.
>>88979938>>88979952Nice, are those GHQ sculpts?
>>88981571Even before one shot had been fired the Northern states were demanding Lincoln do something to bring them back into the fold. Go back and read some of the Northern newspapers and even before the Inauguration they were wanting armies raised and the South burned to the ground.
>>88981025>You know, the plastic minis that basically can't have their mold lines cleaned up, have immense voids, where the Marauder torsos don't line up, and the Griffins gun is actually detached from its hand and points upwards on the torso.Soul
>>88981689Clan Assaults at 3/5 are a pathway to many abilities some would consider...unnatural.
>>88981585At least it overheats I guess?
Fellow FDM wagies, I have created a solution for tracking movement modifiers that's easier and quicker to print than the dice stls I found online. figured I'd share for any other resin-challenged individuals in the thread.https://files.catbox.moe/k7uzeo.step
>>88981601The thing I've realized the more I've read history is that most wars happen when both sides want a war to happen. The Civil War was really no different. Post Harper's Ferry at least there was going to be a war, it was just a question of when and how.
>>88981706>read northern propaganda>thanks it means anythingThe Union was the clear aggressor, and the South was absolutely justified in defending their homes. Anything else is historical revision.
>>88981782Wasn't it Goering who said something like of course normal people don't want war so it's up to the leaders to whip them up into a frenzy? Otherwise there would never be war.
>>88981777Can i have it in stl format so i can use it on my resin printer instead?
>>88981782>Post Harper's Ferry at least there was going to be a warCould've had paid emancipation like Europe did a decade earlier
>>88981825Neither side has clean hands. Both sides wanted a war, in large part because being brave on a battlefield was seen as the mark of manhood in the Victorian Age. Go back and read the Southern newspapers. They were demanding they blow Sumter off the face of the map. Both sides thought it would be one or two short battles and that would be that.
>>88981585I also made a missile variant
>>88981825>fire first shots>attack union property>but the south wasn't the aggressors because.... well just because they aren't
>>88981843I think you can just convert it pretty quickly on tinkercad if you feel so inclined
>>88981861Holy shit. I bet you think Russia is aggressing today. Firing first doesn't make you the aggressor, you can do it in self defense.
consider
>>88981881>I bet you think Russia is aggressing today. Firing first doesn't make you the aggressor, you can do it in self defense.Explain to me what threat Ukraine posed in any way that necessitated a preemptive defensive assault.
>>88981700yes they are, they've got some cool historical stuff
>>88981905Nazism
>>88981845Maybe before; after Harper's Ferry the South believed that the abolitionists' aim was not an end to slavery but a violent revolution. Emancipation would have been seen as a prelude to more northerners coming down and trying to organize further violence. On the flip side, the Antebellum south was wealthier than the North, the bill for paid emancipation would have been a hard sell in the north at best.
>>88981905They existed on our border and weren't under our control. That makes them an existential threat to Russian security.
>>88981881>I bet you think Russia is aggressing today.I mean, they could just leave Ukraine at any time and the war would stop.
>>88981572Shut the fuck up faggot, 99% of the plastic is shallow detailed mold lined horseshit that all looks vaguely the same with every mech sharing some of the same boring ass details, plus you're a weeb kys immediately with your off topic trash.
can you fucking midwits go back to r*ddit with your retard ass historical takes and can we get back to talking about Battletech and listening to people obsess about Shimmy
>>88981923>On the flip side, the Antebellum south was wealthier than the North, the bill for paid emancipation would have been a hard sell in the north at best.Paid emancipation is always a hard sell. The only place it happened on anywhere near the scale of the US was in Brazil, but there it happened after a bad drought in sugar country completely tanked the price of slaves.
>>88981947Battletech fans are usually just weebs in denial.
>>88981947>calling a BT fan a weeb>not knowingloling at you rn retard
>>88981905NATO spent 8 years building up the second largest army in Europe there and they had been talking about retaking Crimea and the Donbass. You can argue that the secession of those regions was illegal and that Ukraine had a right to reclaim them by force. At which point Russians will point to Syria and Yugoslavia and say "You set the precedent". And also mention that Crimea had been Russian longer than California had been American. (1783 for Crimea vs 1850 for California even with the 60 years Crimea was Ukrainian it's still longer). And to be fair, the Russians didn't wish Chechnya all the best with a fruit basket when they decided to leave. They got Putin the sobriquet "Butcher of Grozny". Basically trying to figure out who the "good guys" are is usually silly. Both sides wanted this war. The US thought they could bleed Russia ahead of their showdown with China, Russia thought they could shock and awe Ukraine. Now the US is stuck pouring money down a rathole and Russia has fallen back on trench warfare and "you get a massed artillery barrage, and you get a massed artillery barrage, massed artillery barrages all around!".
>>88981969The way it's playing out is about as close to fresh Battletech canon as we've gotten in a hot minute. All those years of watching Drac Combine stupidity in my future space giant robot game was great preparation for watching the Russians in Current Year.

>>88982176they all have really strong variants, but if we're talking about the default versions then the Wolverine probably has the best set-up. the Griffin is too vulnerable in CQB and the Shad, while the toughest, doesn't have the punching power to hang

>>88982362Oh there's nothing wrong per se, it's a solid mech.My general impression is just that in terms of optimization, the wolverine is generally better. Shadow hawk struggles a little until it gets some upgrades down the line.Which one is the Kuritahawk again?
>>88982362it's the most specialized of the three. the Wolverine is considered a skirmishing brawler, but the AC/5 still lets it hang at range and the Shad is a big longer range but only one of its weapons have minimum range penalties so it can vibe in close if you force it, but the default Griffin only has two weapons and they're both dedicated long-range with minimum ranges, so a Griffin that gets pushed is a lot more likely to feel bullied than its siblings. it hits harder than the other two by a decent margin, but you need to use it more carefully and don't really have space to mess up your positioningthe WVR is a very respectable skirmisher that can close in to finish fights off, and the SHD is basically the perfect training mech, but the GRF is a specialist's tool
>>88982383Viking has moar missiles.
>>88982394>Which one is the Kuritahawk again?>Originally a First Succession War field refit developed by the Draconis Combine in 2803 as the enraged Federated Suns pushed the Kurita troops back, the 2K Shadow Hawk dramatically overhauls the chassis by replacing all original armaments, save the LRM-5, with a Donal PPC in place of the AC/5 and five extra single heat sinks. Though initially introduced to compensate for a lack of autocannon parts and ammunition, the improvement in long range firepower ensured refits continued, with the 2K becoming one of the deadliest units of the Succession Wars[14] despite many Lyran opponents' opinion of it as a "Griffin knockoff."[1][9][23] BV (1.0) = 1,018; BV (2.0) = 1,147[23][24]

One is oversinked, one is undersinked. Both have the same ammo for their LRM's, both can shoot and move the PPC without overheating. The 2K would benefit from dropping a heatsink or two for either an LRM-10 or more jumpjets. The 1N would benefit from dropping a ton of ammo for a heatsink.

>>88983780Thanks for reminding me to get an Enforcer.
>>88983780probably has to do with how low all their weapons are mounted relative to the cockpit, they don't really have any exceptional abilities that make up for that.
>>88983922Any BattleTech game where the physical height of the weapons is important is retarded.
>>88983291It was the plot of the Cappelan Books by Coleman, like Binding Force above. I can't for the life of me remember what his goal was.
>>88983952Not really, it makes little sense to care about it on tabletop, but in the MW games the different geometry adds to the different feel for mechs and means cover becomes something you have to manage.Besides it is an in-universe thing too considering the logic behind the Marauder's AC5 being about going hull down for example.
>>88983952real time combat in a remotely realistic environment will not cater to the delusions that a massively abstracted tabletop game has given you.
>>88984020In universe pilots would be able to raise and lower their mechs arms unlike in MWO
>>88984098Not all of them really allow for that, but it would be a neat mechanic for one of these games too. Just control it like you might the flaps in a flight game either in stages or freely.
If you mean the minis, there's two different variants to choose from. Urban Lance or Hansen Roughrider's Battle Lance.
>>88984126I meant the MWO one, but if I get the chance I might pick up the lance with the Enforcer too eventually, though frankly I got too many minis already.
>>88984098Some mechs have arms that can do that, that won't work for weapons mounted outside of arms.
>>88984156I love that slow piece of shit, you're so late to the party that cleaning up shit with your LB10Xs can net you so many kills. That said the only mech where I've ever really had hardpoint problems where I consistently shot lasers into the hill is just the Black Knight, it's workable, but it's all very low down. The price for looking sick as fuck I suppose.
>>88984172A 300 rating engine puts it just within the realm of "acceptable speed", just fast enough to not be left behind as the team inevitably runs in a circle at top speed for no reason.
>>88984156I think the worst issue is that MWO and to a lesser extent, MW5, have an issue with convergence. It's part of the reason why on tabletop the Nightstar is a monster meanwhile in MWO and 5 the Nightstar is pretty mediocre. In MWO and 5 the twin Gauss rifles are so far away from the center and they converge weirdly so your damage can be spread out when you want to hit all shots, meanwhile having weapons in the torso's mean they hit together at nearly the same point. It's such an interesting point to discuss, many mech's have design quirks that dictate the way they're used or play. The Annihilator's huge body and head make it such a juicy target and in MW5 I can reliably headshot them from a kilometer away with ease, yet at the same time the MWO quirks for it make it one hell of a AC death machine. Hell just take the MAD-3R for example, it's model is squished down for a heavy mech and its energy arms and ballistic torso make for a versatile machine but the PPC heat -5% and Velocity +30% direct how its different from the MAD-4L which has a Gauss cooldown quirk instead. Though MW5 loses this quirk based system. It's something the tabletop lacks as the discussion with the Shadow Hawk 2K and Griffin 1N showed earlier.
>>88984207The issue is not even as bad as it should be, all weapons in mechwarrior magically gimbal to the point you're aiming at, even if they physically should not be capable of doing so.
>>88984201Perhaps, but are you really getting the true Annihilator experience if you're moving faster than the standard Urbie? Shitposting aside, I think mine probably still has the standard engine in it just because I kept all of the guns, or maybe I changed it to a Light or XL, I forget. I just know I have fun with it.>>88984207>convergenceThis is my WW2 sim autism speaking, but it would be cool to get a setting where you can dial in your weapon convergence distance. And probably add some single weapon pippers with it to aim them separately too. Just as something besides the attempt at auto-convergence.>MWO quirksHonestly I kinda wish the quirks had made it over to MW5 too, outside of mods anyway. They give you some more differences between the mechs and give them some neat features like the stupidly fast firing ACs on the Centurion. But then a lot of minor things from MWO got lost on 5 somehow, it's weird.>TabletopIt does have quirks too, just not as specific because nobody wants to track percentages for single weapons. But you could easily give one weapon one of the quirks that makes it more precise or the like. But as we all know the construction rules are both fairly expansive but also fairly limited, so a lot of the differentiation also comes from the fluff and the art or how you present a mech rather than the "handling".
>>88984239Right, forgot, this is also a thing, where the arm weapons should probably retain their auto-convergence, or any weapons that are supposedly gimballed, but the torso or other fixed ones should probably only receive very minor adjustments and otherwise fire straight. At the end of the day though this is mostly a source of looking very silly when you fire at something up close and your PPC shot comes out at a 45° angle.
