Vargarth vs benders, another shit matchup is anyone versus deep dwarves. Deep dwarves can just turtle their way to victory, and there are few factions that can do anything about it.
And with Vargarth vs Benders, if you kill the first piece locking down one of your pieces it opens you up to kill the rest and cascade the board into your favor.
That said, Summoner Wars 1st edition is amazing and it is a shame that they ruined it in 2nd edition and it is a shame 1st edition stuff is so expensive.

Hard disagree, i prefer the improved rules. Less ability interaction confusion, more interesting deck building if you're into that, commons are now very relevant and you can and will win games without champs. Events not locked to a phase opened up a ton of design space, no more catchup events that warped gameplay, no Rune Mages slotted in every deck. Turtling is a lot harder, focus on squad formation keeps your summoner near or on the frontline, boost mechanic streamlines cost and triggers for abilities. Its nothing but positives.
We lost the magic pile manipulation, but few factions actively cared about that, and the attempts to push common unit quality created several gimmick second summoner decks that relied heavily on one specific common with events and champs tied to them, diluting customization options.
The only thing missing from 2nd ed are the filth. Bring back my muties, Colby!

yeah, I can't get on board with that. we can argue about the art all day, but the balance and general tempo of the game is much improved in 2nd. I can't really see going back to the old one.

yeah, for sure. the art thing on SW will probably remain a point of contention forever. it's not a major obstacle for me and I tend to focus more on the game. I think the new art is pretty basic-boring, but I was never that enamored with the old art anyway. some like yourself have a stronger affection for it.

I was one of the anons who put together the pastebin for it, so you should check that out. you do need to get a starter set (or master set, or whatever it's called). the two versions is for everything, not just the core. basically when they relaunched they errata'd or rebalanced like 100+ cards. art didn't change, it was all rules text. anything in the dark red/black packaging is current. stuff in the white boxes is the original run. but they also did an "upgrade pack" which you can still find some places (gamenerdz still has it) that has playsets of the cards that changed. so if you have the white boxes, you can get the upgrade pack and just swap out changed cards and still end up with a full set.

as far as art consistency, they've stayed pretty close on the style, but it's not actually the same artist that did the original run anymore. but since she did literally every piece of art for like the first 4 years it kind of locked in "this is what ashes looks like" and subsequent artists have mostly stayed in that box.

Nah, I tend not to dwell on my bad matches unless they were at least funny. Any other especially notable bad matches were probably just me bricking against a deck I had an otherwise good matchup against or a match so one-sidedly in my opponent's favor, purely due to compatibility, that I couldn't do anything.

Warlord has 4 card types:
Characters
Itens
Actions
Dungeons

Characters are the fundamental "resources" in the game. To play itens you need to play them on characters and they will rarely have rules for card draw that isn't tied to the character. Action cards are performed by characters.
Dungeons are the only card type that could draw cards without that draw necessarily being tied to a character.

So if you make a deck for turn 1-3 to draw your entire deck it will mostly be done by characters performing "orders" or "reacts" (actions) to draw cards thus making Kedric able to react as many times as he wants.
He is like the anti draw warlord, that sadly is hard to counter for "one trick pony" decks.
(btw there is no "decked out you lose" rule for the game, if you run out of card you will simply stop drawing cards)(decks that draw lots of cards try to get ahead by having more and more characters to use/attack, having more actions during a turn, etc)

BLUE: League decks that are pre made semi competitive decks with up to 3 copies of ultra rare staple (or deck defining) cards and playsets of some format staples.
BLACK: trainer's toolkit are boxes with 2 reprint ultrarare pokemons that are competitive in the format and 2 copies of the most played trainer cards (+ basic energies)

This sounds good if I'm already doing this stuff without even being told. Should I mention that my nephews/nieces play the game and I know a tiny bit about it from that? It's not even a lie since I DID buy him some 2-player set when he was 5 or whatever. Because Pokemon is one of those things like Star Wars where its so popular and ingrained into pop culture that even if somebody has never seen a single Star Wars film, they would have a general idea of the movies.

Tournament schedules are kind of weird for the game. It doesn't have as wide a sales channel as other games so there aren't a lot of stores who carry the game and there are even some stores who only carry the game but don't have events. So sometimes you'll have some decklists pop up all at once or decklists interspersed over the course of a few days. And then there are official event decklists from store qualifiers or regionals which are published on the official twitter/website.

The rules we used were each player gets 8 packs and has to build a full 40 card deck. Most players ended up playing 2 main colors with some splashing more colours.

I’ve played 3 games of Grand Archive and I have to say the game is pretty fun. I think the Mage and Warrior starters are pretty evenly matched with the exception being that the mages card advantage is kinda nutty and Floating Memory seems like a bandaid fix to a broken system. I'd skip the Sylvie starter. The starters in general are a bad buy and don't really give you a sense of how the classes play. The rai starter is too inconsistent to do well. Sylvie's just sort of does nothing, and Lorraine is just doing Lorraine things and is the best of the three.

I felt like we got a good handle on what each champion wanted to do in the couple of games we played. Rai got to level 9 and nuked me in the face and drew like 6 cards a turn and I was slapping away with my units and attacks.
