>>88976501The answer for this depends on one factor.Under normal circumstances, Mio would pull the lever without having to think about it much. It gets her some praise and reassurances that she did what she could and then people move on with their lives. If there was someone else there with her, she'd pull the lever, wipe that from their memory and then trick them into making the choice. >>88976501I cannot reasonably be expected to destroy or derail the trolley given my capabilities, so my only choices available to me involve the lever. Legally speaking, if I pull the lever, then I am culpable for the death of the one person. In a practical frame, some might be capable of changing the direction of the train and racing ahead of it to free the single tied up individual, thereby preventing any lives from being lost at all. I cannot do this, so if I pull the lever then the one person is guaranteed to have died and I would have been the one to decide the death in an undeniable way. Therefore I should avoid pulling the lever, and the trolley will remain on the original track headed towards the five people. This remains the fault of the villain who engineered this scenario in any reasonable moral sense as well as objectively in a legal framework. Because if I stand still and do nothing, there will be issues with my heroing career, I must do something to act. The distance to the group of five is less than the distance to the group of one. At a dead sprint, I may be able to reach the group and use my sword to cut at least some of the ropes (we know it is fiber bonds because of the use of "tied" instead of "chained" or "bound"). It is unlikely I will have the time to physically remove any given person from the track, so freeing them from bondage is the most that I am capable of doing and so is the most that could be expected of me by a third party. If they end up cut by my sword, that evidence will be destroyed by the horror of the trolley collision, and if they are too weak to move due to the circumstances of their kidnapping then I am not culpable, so there are no downsides to this.I race the trolley and slash at the group of five. If any of them are able to escape because of this action then I will consider the gambit a success. Someone else will have to combat Drekus directly. I disengage to run interference and support until backup arrives.

>>88977282>Not just jumping onto the Trolley to defeat Drekus and stop the trainNot hero material.
>>88977354>and who knows how many undefined NPCs(nta)To be fair, not all quirks are distributed equal. So while quirks like super strength, gigantification, fire/water projection might be the most common, certain quirks are relatively much rarer to find (like self regeneration, healing quirks capable of fixing certain grave wounds, etc). So it isn't impossible for mind/memory control to be a fairly rare kind of quirk. Regardless of how rare it is, i feel like students with those kinds of quirks really should have extra supervison
>>88977384Let's say that memory manipulation is a very rare quirk. Half of one percent of all people are able to change memories, which is telepathy+manipulation if we're being frank about it. Taking into account the annual population growth of Japan, assuming that mass chaos and population booms roughly cancel each other out, and using Kyoto's current population, we can give a rough estimate that there's 6 million residents in 21XX. That's 30k memory manipulators. Even if only the top 1% of them could do what Mio pulls off, that's still 300 people, way more than a formal investigation could handle when there's other problems also demanding labor-hours. And we made a lot of really generous assumptions arriving at that figure.

>>88977451The school wouldn't be keeping tabs on every memory manipulator in Kyoto. We're talking about the students.
>>88977520In fiction it would be insane to assume that any given mucky-memory incident is the fault of one of your students, especially a student that has a good reputation with the faculty and has been trusted enough to have responsibilities higher than a typical kid. She's been in a hero program for three years. That has weight to it that has to be counterbalanced by excessive evidence against her. Opportunity is not enough. And let's be honest, she's such an evil little shit that motive doesn't really come into it either. She acts based on whim and amusement for the most part. Add all of that to the fact that most of the staff are dumb as shit, and Mio being able to avoid expulsion and arrest makes a lot of sense.
>>88976980>>88977144Glad you liked it. Hope that Spherethirst and Yui-Anon are fine with what I've done.I had to stop myself from writing Hailey preemptively telling Inigo to shut up after saying that Hifumi rubbed off on her.
>>88977056My question is, how did she even get there in the first place? Like, her quirk doesn't really apply to any of the hero duties. Did she brainwash everyone into thinking she has a different quirk? I'd sooner accept Junichi then her, he could at least be trained to use it in fighting villains and stuff.
>>88977520Nta, but you also need to take into account the quirk copiers, and we have two of those in 1D, and one in 3D if you count the mass produced builds (I don't, but I felt it was worth bringing up)
>>88977514So as in all things, the cyoa doesn't matter. It's the other anons you're playing with that are important.
>>88977610Pretty much. Like a bad enough cyoa could fail to connect Anons, but it's mostly about the themes, because in the end, we really use it only for inspiration. It's not like a ttrpg game where the mechanics decide how the game goes. If the cyoa delivers on that original kickstart for the setting and characters (and sometimes it might be the setting itself, like Hifumi was mostly made before the cyoa itself released) then it's enough.
>>88976928Very sweet anon. Nothing seemed off about Yui. The blunt 'take it or leave' approach and the homemade gift are definitely in line with what would get through to her. Not sure if/to what extent I'll follow it up but Hailey would probably find a gift on her desk for both her and Hifumi sometime in the days following. Likely still rougher to her and the rest of the clique than say Orochi or Ash, but in more of a frenemies kinda way than just hating her guts. "You're still a spoiled bitch but it'd suck if somethin' happened to you."
>>88977546>Mio being able to avoid expulsion and arrest makes a lot of senseOkay, but it doesn't sense for her to avoid a beating and correction.
>>88977654>a gift for both Hailey and Hifumi>a gift they'd both enjoy>a gift they'd use togetherI'm stumped.
>>88977654Glad you liked it. Frenemies work, I think (not quite sure if I understand the term fully, but I did imagine them hanging out involving a lot of insults and teasing). It's still another relationship for them which makes it possible for them to meet in the future (even if it's a background thing and we don't write about it), and that hopefully will lead to them receiving the friendship bracelets too on the graduation day.>>88977712Matching sweaters (or beanies or whatever, maybe socks so they could still try to wear them at school) for that couple look, of course!
>>88977744NO! Matching mittens with the name of their partner stitched on the inside! Right on top of the palm.
>>88977483Basically, I'm thinking of introducing a simillar mechanic to Sin Devil Trigger for Capstones, being like a temporary, stronger version of the final abilities of a tree.
>>88977669So write it. Anon made her to be irredeemable and annoying to give opportunity for stuff like that. Go ahead.

>>88977569If you don't see how supreme proficiency with technology and the ability to search a person's memories for clues and truths would be useful to pro heroes then there's really no helping you. Mio wastes her potential, which is one of the most interesting things about her as a character.
>>88977792Which OC is it for? This is important for my answer. Like I could see it fitting for MM but not for FE or AR.
>>88977828It is for MM.
>>88977826I don't think evidence obtained by her would be usable in court, and even for investigation, it'd probably be pretty deep behind red tape. Like if she were government sponsored it might make sense, but otherwise I'd see her in support role more than a pro-hero.

>>88979246To build on your point, I'd like to see more multi-post builds when appropriate. There's something very kino about watching each post from a high effort anon come rolling in. >>88979291Don't wanna
>>88979082Honestly, I'd like to see more purposefully "non-canon" stories. Stories where writers aren't afraid of crossing timelines, or keeping characters within their status quos. I think the fact that MPs got more organized helped in archival, but it also lost the spark of seeing your builds take part in some really crazy shit that may or may not leave them with lasting scars from the adventure.
>>88979401This. Victor, Genma, Takara and Sally can all be in 1-D even if the max size is 24, who gives a shit. Victor and Sally, Genma and Takara, Victor and Takara, mix and match. If you have a good idea for Sally or Takara in fight club then build your teams and start writefagging it's that simple
>>88979082More incest.
>>88979418So we just replace the highschool system entirely with a college style system. Who's in the classroom and who's there for a training exercise purely depends on scheduling. Maybe Victor doesn't have homeroom on Mondays, so he's not in the main classroom that day. Stuff like that. In theory you could even have classes with students from multiple grades that way, letting our 2nd and 3rd year students get into the action more.
>>88979376I agree with you in theory, but I can't say I've ever seen a build that I felt was too long. At least not to the point of me liking it less because of the number of posts.
>>88979450based

>>88979478>Don't you guys have provisional licenses? No.
>>88979246I'm never gonna put stuff that I could put into a writefag into the build itself. Even if I did, it'd be worse for it.
>>88979478No one in 1-D does yet. Though, I think there should be more writefags of characters casually interacting with villains in the wild.
Fixing the dumb provisional license test thing would be editing like two paragraphs max. Just change the test into one that makes sense and leave the rest.
>>88979470True. I think the effortfags have enough sense to manage their own output. If their build would take too many posts, they'll just take it upon themselves to export the excess. Kind of a self-solving problem. The only way I could see it going wrong would be if posting long builds became popular such that the low-effortfags started to post 6+ post builds, with each post only having like 300 or less words each- just stretching it out for the sake of achieving some kind of post quota. I doubt that'll actually happen of course. It's just an offhand thought.
>>88979533True. The best number of posts is however many the build needs, whether that's 1 post or 7.
>>88979478Just set it in the future.
>wow anon, those writefags are pretty okay but I really wish you'd make a six post long build to go along with it like a REAL effortfag! fuck you
>>88979511Nothing wrong with that. I'm sure it doesn't suit every anons style. I like seeing it, but it's not like I think it should be forced down every anons throat.
>>88979570Nobody said this
>>88979570>I really wish you'd make a six post long build to go along with it like a REAL effortfag! Why do you require constant validation and people to say you're an effortfag?
>>88979478Only seniors like Billy and Weiss have licenses. In 1-D only Owari has one (I swear I thought Victor was government sponsored as well though, turns out his connections to the feds are useless, like water inertia)
>>88979570Literally no one said this. All we're saying is that long build posts are neat. That has nothing to do with the value of the writefags that come after. Anons that put out a 1 build post with no controlC and a single amazing writefag a couple weeks later are still an effortfag to me.

>>88979082MPs that are about anons having their characters go on an adventure together like an actual story.Basically a bunch of writefags that you could fit together in a timeline from when the characters meet to the story's conclusion e.g. if it's fantasy it could be a bunch of characters meeting up and doing a quest together or if it's a longer story then it's characters meeting up to defeat a demon king or something with writings being about all the journeys it takes to get thereor if it's sci fi themed then players exploring some uncharted planet together and finding something or a group of individuals meet on a space station to perform a job etcI'm just much more interested in actual stories happening since I feel like that's the greatest strength and most exciting thing to me about MPs in a CYOA. The kind of stories you can make in a world that's been developed by the author could allow for lots of fun things kind of how like stories develop in a tabletop game.I'm not really interested at all in the smut stuff as while I think romance is fine, if it's just pure smut ERP then that makes me think of the /trash/ harahel thread which would be disappointing to see this general go that way

As long as I can writefag my silly little goof-off stories and still have the main plot continue along, then I'd be really cool with playing an MP like that. The main plot will always be carried by the extremely dedicated writefags, and that ain't me. Same for artfags too as seeing artwork get made of the events that happen really do make those stories and events that much more specialI know a big part of what my post was about though is the CYOA itself and how it's made like: what kind of genre a CYOA is, it's aesthetic, level of detail, and worldbuilding and how that draws in anons and motivates them etc so there's always gonna be a big variance there in the kinds of writings that get made I feel>>88979766yeah same my tastes are pretty similar to yours as I'm always a sucker for romanceit's always fun seeing romances slowly develop overtime based on how the characters interact with each other and how they react in varying situations whether it's comfy/cute SoL or an intense action scene etc

>>88980360Anyway, I believe that last time we left off on discussing how exactly skills work, mechanically. So, the topics include:What are the perks for each tier of a skill? What does fusion achieve? Is Fusion a tier perk, or a separate concept? Is there anything else about skills that needs to be defined in terms of mechanics?
>>88980533Honestly I like DrekusI'm having him in my next writefagWill it be good? Probably notWill it be canon? Also probably notI just think writing Drekus dialogue is fun
>>88980557>>88980568Idk
You know, Drekus got beat up by to chicks for free. Usually you'd have to pay good money for that.
>>88980602I can respect that. On my end, he's a very flexible character. His quirk means he could do just about anything without worries about power scaling shittery- he can just not like the voice and get rid of the quirk afterwards and it would be in character. And his insanity means he could do literally anything. And still be in character.Plus the anon that writes for him in thread is a absolute genius, and he's made me adore Drekus as a character. Just really shitposted the blue ogre man to greatness.
>>88980602Drekus is a very fun character. I was thinking about trying to develop some sort of bizarre but wholesome mentor relationship between him and Ashleighbut I really have no idea how I would make something like that work. Plus, there are other more pressing things I should be writefagging about.

>>88980650How did she feel about her __date__ with her cool senpai?
>>88980600>What are the perks for each tier of a skill? That should vary by skill no? Say a martial arts skill could at L1 give mastery of a style, L2 give special moves, L3 the ability to ignore defense , so on. Different stronger abilities for each rank (besides having everything level up together, so going from L1 to L2 not only increases your repertoire, but you punch better.)>What does fusion achieve? Is Fusion a tier perk, or a separate concept? What follows here depends on how fusion works. So far the proposal was T5 + T5 or T5+T3 right? Maybe fusion is where we introduce the ability to create your own custom powers? I feel like those are the coolest part of mps. Have the resulting skill have a number of extra functions equal to the lowest material (i.e A T5+T3 effectively has 3 extra levels of skill that the player can customize. We only have to give 1-3 examples of how it goes)If that's how fusion goes, perhaps it would be good to have a price on doing it, or only allowing a certain number of times?
>>88980758You should definitely still have to pay for the custom abilities. Otherwise you run into fusions being forced for optimization. Trust that anons will use the fusion system because it's cool and allows for more flexible and interesting character creation, and not because it's strictly better mechanically.
>>88980600>What are the perks for each tier of a skill? As of the current state of things, T3 and T5 have the potential to do fusion (or fusion can be opted out in favor of greater mastery). T1 is simply aquiring the skill. Meanwhile T6 is the realm of reality breaking mastery- it's where you start doing fate style swordsmanship, lighting moonlight on fire, or otherwise telling logic to take a hike. That leaves just T2 and T4 being a bit vague- it's purely being better at the skill itself, which I feel should be a given for increasing the tier of a skill. So those tiers could get replaced. We could either think of some catch all benefits for those tiers, or we could leave T2 and T4 to be specific benefits depending on the skill itself.>What does fusion achieve? Is Fusion a tier perk, or a separate concept? At present, it's a tier of a perk, and the benefits are undefined. In theory, fusion skills blur the line between two skills to achieve something that neither skill could do separately.>>88980758>That should vary by skill no?Partly I asked because that seems to be how things work at the moment. There's also the option of giving some structure to the skill perks, as mentioned above.>What follows here depends on how fusion works. So far the proposal was T5 + T5 or T5+T3 right? Honestly, I'm not feeling the idea of having to buy the fused skills separately. Assuming you took both chances to fuse, you'd need a T6 slot, a T3 slot and a T5 slot just to make a T6 skill with maximum fusions- that would take all of your crowns outright, making a peak custom skill too expensive compared to a peak class or race.>Maybe fusion is where we introduce the ability to create your own custom powers? That was the goal, essentially. Yep. Race was so anons can be cool monsters and fantasy races. Class was so that anons can have cool, recognizable ability sets. Skills was to grant the ability to make custom stuff. At least that was the idea pre-cooperation days.
>>88980663I mean, I want to write about those other things too. They're also more pressing and easier to make work. The Drekus idea just isn't a priority, even though it'd probably be pretty cool if I could figure out a way to make it work.>>88980703Somehow I don't think this is how it would go down, anon.>>88980743I think she enjoyed it greatly. Initially, I think Ashleigh saw Yui as a sort of badass punk type person, and seeing this other side of her has probably shifted it more to the image of someone who's really cool and dependable. She definitely counts herself lucky to have had the privilege to see the more caring side of her. After she got home, she was probably sitting on her bed with the plush they "won", wondering if they're "officially" friends now, and whether or not it'd be okay for her to send Yui funny memes and stuff. She definitely views Yui as a strong ally now.
>>88980844On that end, my interpretation is that custom skills shouldn't be any stronger than default ones. If it's the same price and the same power level, then it's truly divorced of any meta implications. That way it's completely up to the player if they want to do custom/fusion things, and the ones that do aren't taxed for it.(For clarity sake, I'm >>88980850 this anon).

>>88980850>There's also the option of giving some structure to the skill perks, as mentioned above.I unfortunately don't really have any idea for it. >Honestly, I'm not feeling the idea of having to buy the fused skills separately. So the problem comes here. Fusing skills is mixing up 2 skills for a stronger skill (even if the results aren't above the power level of the components, strictly speaking a fused skill is stronger because it has "extra levels" in it at least by my proposal). >>88980983I believe that's why if you opt out of fusion, you still get a benefit. If you fuse fire magic and swordsmanship, you'll be weaker in terms of pure swordsmanship than someone that took swordsmanship and didn't fuse it with anything. It's a situation where fusing makes the skill weaker in exchange for more options, such that the net strength of the skill doesn't change. If that doesn't mesh with you, then...There is another option I'd be satisfied with. We could just make skills cheaper than races or classes, such that buying a T6 and a T5 skill wouldn't literally take all of your crowns. Since the skill system is supposed to be about cooperation, maybe we can add in a thing saying that a T6 skill on it's own isn't comparable to a T6 race or class, but a T6 fusion skill can be comparable.

Anyone has any idea of a heavy civilian grade weapon that isn't an Anti-material rifle?
>>88981434If I'm remembering correctly, hunting rifles chambered in .30-06 and .308, and .300 Win Mag pack a punch and are used for killing larger animals.
>>88981477So, these calibers are used in Big Game Hunting, right? I can put the description of Heavy Weapon just being around those calibers?
>>88981544I believe so. I don't know what you're referring to in regards to the "Heavy Weapon" thing, but I don't see why not. I'd probably just pick whichever cartridge you like the most though.
>>88981561Light Weapons are things like a handgun, revolver and smaller calibers. Medium Weapons are things like the good and 'ol shotgun and some rifles.Heavy Firearms are bigger calibers, but I don't understand enough of it and the examples I got last time were around .50BMG and other big ass calibers that are impracticableto put in a CYOA like Memento Mori.
>>88981317I mean... Being a dragon or a Maou is a pretty extreme option too... But anyway, that works for me. Skills are cheaper but weaker on their own. A fusion skill at it's most fused is comparable to a T6 race/class in terms of cost and power. We also had talk of a T1 class taken at T6 being weaker / cheaper than a natural T6, so maybe an unfused T6 is comparable to one of those?Anyway, with that said, is there anything else about the skill system you feel uncertain about? Could be something you feel is too vague, or something that doesn't quite mesh with you.
>>88981592Since we are here. Thinking of you being able to select three Slice of Life Events to thin your shadow. Will have to wait for the balancing of Mundane Skills to balance it out perfectly.
>>88981592Oh, this is about memento mori? Yeah I guess you could just count any of those larger cartridges as a heavy weapon, though I think most people will be assuming that heavy weapons aren't necessarily weapons that utilize larger calibers but weapons that have higher destructive capacity. For example, any form of light machine gun or any form of explosive weapon. It sounds like you'd be better off categorizing the weapons by caliber. Maybe like:>Light Caliber.22LR9mm.45 ACP>Mid Caliber5.567.62Buckshot>High Caliber.300 Win Mag.308.30-06
>>88981734Light weapons are categorized as such. I may use those calibers for mid since I only put the good and 'ol 12 gauge shotgun as a clear example of Medium Calibers.High Calibers already use those calibers as their descriptions.
>>88981603Skills don't have a single session to check everything easily. Oh damn, just noticed that in the suggestion there it wasn't just 5-5 or 5-3, but also 3-3. What do we do about it?>Being a dragon or a Maou is a pretty extreme option too... I disagree. Being a dragon or maou is just the expected focusing on a tree, it's just buying a single T6. A maximum skill is the equivalent of buying a Maou, buying another T5 and a T3 race, plus an extra fusion tax.
>>88981755Part of what I'm saying is that the destructive capacity of a weapon doesn't entirely hinge upon it's caliber. Most light machineguns are chambered in 7.62 or 5.56 and can easily kill more people more quickly than a hunting rifle chambered in .300 Win Mag. At the same time, you could have a submachine gun chambered in .45 ACP that could arguably be just as lethal to an even larger amount of people in the right situation. Is there a dual distinction? Do you choose a caliber and then the type of weapon?
>>88981817>Do you choose a caliber and then the type of weapon?Pretty much, the only thing is that it has to be a "civilian grade", so you cannot go equipped for a war in the streets with a machinegun.
>>88981857Civilian grade by what metric? There are LMGs and military DMRs that are quite easily purchasable by civilians in many parts of the U.S. with the only difference being they're incapable of automatic fire. Though, you could easily also modify them with any number of legally purchasable specialized stocks or trigger assemblies that would get them rather close.

Maybe the price of the fusion tax depends on the weaker skill being fused? So T5 + T3 is the same tax as T3 + T3, but T5 + T5 is a different tax?Another good question is if we can fuse T5 + T4 skills, or T6 + T6, or stuff like that, or if the tax would change.>I disagree. Being a dragon or maou is just the expected focusing on a treeHonestly I'm not with you there. I get that they are the peak of the tree, and that a T6 skill is the peak of the skill tree, but I don't think a single skill taken that high is equivalent to the T6 races or classes- it just doesn't really pass the immersion check for me. Plus, if the logic is that it's the extreme of the system, you could just say that a fusion skill is the actual extreme. Similarly, you could say that a default skill at T6 is no more of an extreme than a T1 race taken at T6.>A maximum skill is the equivalent of buying a Maou, buying another T5 and a T3 race, plus an extra fusion tax.And I'd say a T6 fusion skill is the equivalent of buying a Maou alone. Buying another T5 and a T3 would be like buying yet another T5 skill and yet another T3 skill, possibly with those new skills being fusion skills too.Seems we simply don't agree on this one? This is a purely opinion/ rule of cool based discussion after all. So it's not like there's a single correct answer. Any equivalence exists purely because we decided we wanted it there. And none of that cheeky, 'but actually my opinion is the right one' silliness!

>>88981774You now, this just occurred to me, so I'll just toss it out before the thread archives. According to the original price settings, T5+T5 is equal to a T6 price wise. What if two T5 skills fused together is just considered a T6? The components themselves are still T5, but together they are T6. If that's the way we did it, I'd be fine without making skills cheaper than races or classes, since a 'T6' fusion skill would still cost the same as a Dragon or that stuff.

>>88982183>So T5 + T3 is the same tax as T3 + T3, but T5 + T5 is a different tax?The problem here is that the system proposed depends on the lower rank to determine how many benefits you get. So strictly speaking, doing a T3+T3 fusion is the same benefit (because the lowest level is 3, you still get the same 3 fused virtual levels) for less cost. >Another good question is if we can fuse T5 + T4 skills, or T6 + T6, or stuff like that, or if the tax would change.I think we should, T3/5 just being the minimum to fuse. As it stands fusing T6+T6 is the superior option (Because then you get 6 virtual levels, and a third T6 skill) so i think the tax should change by level. Okay then. You're allowed to have the wrong opinion! Checkmate!>>88982238It's a good idea.

T3 is the minimum to fuse 2 skills, and T5 is the minimum to fuse 3? How's that sound? (Going by highest T in the fusion). That's counted under the same silliness.
