Innistrad and Ravnica need to take a long break. Alara and Lorwyn are basically forgotten, but still I'd rather see something new and fantasy. OG Ixalan could have been good, but they went full reddit on OMG DINOSAURS, and completely overshadowed the new take on vampires.

>>

Alara has the most SOVL so they will never return to a multicolor plane without making it as much broken cancer as the new sets with overpowered multicolored bullshit, and Lorwyn would just get culturally enriched by nignogging all the white Kithkin and pushing fairie rogue bulkshit.

I'd argue it's less about about being goofy and more about diluting the essence of the plane in order to rocket out new products. Skeletal Grimace is also goofy, but it does so in a way that feels in place with the plane's gothic horror aspects as compared to a fucking World of Warcraft chainsaw.

Maybe it's an unpopular opinion but I actually thought Midnight Hunt was a bit of a "return to form" for Innistrad. It's not as good as the original sets but it's better mechanically than Shadows, Eldritch Moon, and Crimson Vow. Eldritch Moon had some cool body horror art but was mostly shit otherwise.
>>
>>88102029
Like Amonkhet, Innistrad and Kamigawa? Holy shit when will Maro be shitcanned and replaced by a diversity hire black xer already? It can't be worse than what he's doing.
>>
>>88101154
Eldraine was great, it was my first set so nostalgic for me.
>>
>>88102077
I actually agree with this, eldritch moon wasn't a positive direction for the plane at all. Crimson vow wasn't my favorite because blood tokens are awkward but I did like the new direction for humans and spirits

So if i pay 7 (5+UU) i get 7 tokens right?
>>

>>88101154
It is so strange to me that when Eldraine was standard legal everyone was bitching about the low power level (ignoring Oko) and now everyone talks about it as a high powered set the same way people used to talk about Lorwyn block. Same with Ixalan-when that set released the internet endlessly bitched about it, now people speak nostalgically about it and are hopeful for Return to Ixalan. The monowhite conquistador vampires had everyone complaining about them at the time but now majority opinion is they are kino. I wonder if faggots will start speaking this way about Brother's War and Return to Return to Dominaria in a few years.
>>
>>88102415
the mana value of X spells on the stack is equal to the mana cost+the X value (so X+2)
>>
So this dude got a lot better with the proliferate support added in ONE, right? Including the new him that doesn't look like him.
>>
>>88101155
>Is there anything to consider or do I only have to create the PDF and print it?
make sure to choose the correct paper size in the drop down. I've fucked up a batch of sheets myself by not checking that. The default is A4, which is not the default sheet here in burgerland
>>
>>88102481
Do spells like Helm of Awakening and Ruby Medallion lower the cost of X spells?
>>
>>88102541
Yes, this is why you add x cards to decks like Rakdos Lord of Riots.
>>
>>88102469
eldraine had other powerful cards that were too powerful and format-warping (fires, bonecrusher giant, once upon a time, embercleave, great henge, robber of the rich, lucky clover, fabled passage, witch/oven, brazen borrower). eldraine limited was low power-level and boring, but standard was nuts. it was just pretty low-power right before that.
ixalan block didn't come together well mechanically, but it had cool flavor that drew people in.
dominaria united will probably be remembered as a pretty good set, brother's war i don't really see it.

yes, by the order of casting a spell you determine the value of X before you pay costs, so you can choose an X value you can't actually pay, then apply cost decreases afterward.
That's why pic rel is so strong
>>
>>88102469

half the eldrain set got banned lol (but I blame that on being there around the same time as MH, and wotc not wanting to ban MH cards). I always said Ixalan vamps were a neat idea, but the dinosaurs and pirates were extremly cringe (woohoo wacky xd). Jace and Vraska subplot was cute since I'm a monstergirlfag, but my only memory of ixalan cards was that they were irrelevant compared to energy that somehow refused to leave.

they lower the mana cost but not the mana value. So if you have Ovika and ruby medallion in play and cast finale of promise (XRR sorcery) where X is equal to 5, you will create 7 tokens even though you only spent 6 mana to cast it

You do realise that you can group MTG cards into categories right? For example one might group on into the category of:

"Inability to design quality MTG cards"

And from there we might even start a discussion how Wizards is being careless and the sheer number of cards being developed is causing a quality that is unacceptable and hurting their brand.
Who knows though. Who fucking knows. Who knows how anything in this world works. Certainly not me.
But most of all- Certainly not you. Stay fucking desolated, because you truly are the brain rot priest.

While I’m in agreement that a Return to Mercadia set would be awesome, modern day WOTC is currently incapable of a proper execution. Part of what makes Masques such a great, unique set is the non-digital artwork and flavor the old artists of magic used to bring. They would need DiTerlizzi, Rebecca Guay, Tirese Nielsen, Fred Fields, Andrew Robinson etc. to capture the aesthetic that made Masques such a memorable and fun set. A return to Mercadia by modern day WOTC would have horrible digital art, some awful justice league planeswalker plot, and hamfisted diversity and inclusion bullshit. In a way it’s a good thing that MaRo doesn’t want to go back to Mercadia because it didn’t bring in enough shekels back in ‘99. One less fond memory to be defiled.

So am I correct in thinking that once the game is down to two players left, you, as the player with the slicer deck, will never get to keep him on "hired muscle" unless it's the turn he is cast, and there's no reason to hand him to your opponent because Goad will not prevent them from hitting you if you're the last person left?

So then at that point how do you win?
>>
Why is he so based?
>>
>>88106988
Jacob Hauken is really underrated
>>
>>88107181
He is. He got way too greedy and didn't even fucking do anything with all the shit he crapped out. He probably saw the other players protecting the disk as the table colluding or ganging up on him "unfairly". Dude fucking made himself archenemy and then fucking complains about it.

The dumbass is probably a noob and doesn't understand how to play the table. There's even a fucking playstyle to try and be the 2nd most powerful player so once everyone blows their load of interaction on keeping number one in check you just go for an easy win.
>>
>>88108257
You want to be in lethal range against the remaining player by the time it's 1v1. Otherwise you swing him out, then hopefully have a sac effect.
>>
>>88108257
>you, as the player with the slicer deck, will never get to keep him on "hired muscle" unless it's the turn he is cast, and there's no reason to hand him to your opponent because Goad will not prevent them from hitting you if you're the last person left?
correct
>So then at that point how do you win?
Slicer needs to deal 63 combat damage to players, assuming the average 4-person game, to win. He does 18-24 per turn cycle. By the time you're in a 1v1 with him, the last person should be low enough for you to rouge's passage or something for the win.
Of course that is just theory. The most likely scenario if you get down to a 1v1 despite using a group slug deck is that the other person is playing tokens or something else that counters you hard that you just can't beat.
>>

Given that value is so powerful, would it be viable to make a good deck of double faced/split cards? I imagine that playing with essentially 140 or so cards could be handy, but to my eye it seems that these double cards are kind of restrictive as they tend to play off of/synergize with themselves. Just wondering if anyone has ever experimted with the idea before I waste time on garbage.

I think modal spells like the charms and commands paired with ways to recur them is a bit more impactful. Some of the fuse cards are pretty decent though like Far/away and Wear/tear. There's also a few aftermath cards that are pretty decent. I'd prioritize stuff that can 2 for 1 or replace themselves.

Do you have an idea for a commander or colors? I run an Inalla deck that is very charm and command heavy.
>>
>>88108615
Slicer is probably the easiest. Play slicer. Buff him on your turn or stax your opponents. Turn sideways
>>
>>88108700
You know what, your post made me realize that charms and command spells ARE much better. Now I'm thinking that this idea has already been perfected in the form of lucky charms type decks.
My extremely half baked idea was just using child of alara or something like that and winning through value, which again I think has already been perfect through the aforementioned charms decks. IDK it was just a thought but now that I'm talking it out it just sounds like a bad idea.

Yennett's fun. I built her for a battlecruiser table with just big silly odd-CMC stuff, as many "minigame sphinxes" as I could fit, and lots of scry.

Merieke Ri Berit is really unique with what she needs to really function, really enjoy her.

If you play this, odds are 90% you'll get targeted by everyone from three tables over.

Honestly one of the best precons I've owned. It's so much fun. I've only made a few substitions like adding approach of the second sun.

Has anyone tried oathbreaker btw? My palygroup is looking to try it

I play with cool guys and we mutually trust each other not to be TOO degenerate, so it's all good.

playing Merieke will automatically put you into degenerate territory. Unless for some reason you agree to never steal their commanders they will never let her resolve/stick around

If Muldrotha player tries to cast something from his Yard is it too late to exile the card he wants to cast?
>>
so what does this plump do? is it just a group hug deck?
>>
>>88110823
yes, until you whip out the thoracle and ostracize yourself from your group

>they will never let her resolve/stick around
I'm confused by this. Do you regularly, intentionally let your opponents' commanders stick around when you have the means to remove them? That seems like very strange behavior. Merieke eats a lot of removal, but so do all our commanders.
Is it normal to let other people have their commanders in play for long periods? I exclusively play with a group I've known for a decade+, so I don't know "the meta."

Yes, but you control the board at the same time, then you whip out a hightide into omniscience into enter the infinite into thoracle OR you use cards like Viseling and Psychosis Crawler to murder while spreading joy OR you mill them out with your love. My favourite deck to play into new groups.

Do you serious expect me to believe everyone in your pod holds their removal and counters for commanders? Are you that bad at Magic or are you RPing like you are??

It’s great I love it. You can get a lot of the creatures if you can find the old sea monster commander precon
