Lasker's contribution as a math/philosophy Chad being the longest reigning champion was skeptically eliminative, not dogmatically additive. He just didn't believe in a lot of the poorly articulated, scatterbrained horseshit of the theorists, and he made total fools of them. Go ask any modern IM or GM to define what space is on the board, collect your answers, and then stare in horror as you compare the answers. Lasker had no time for brainlets who can't speak with precision.

Some of you guys liked looking at the first game from Steinitz-Lasker 1894, so I'm posting the second one.
Steinitz avoids castling and sets up a deadly attack, Lasker misevaluates the situation and accepts the knight sacrifice.
A point of interest for me is once again bishop play, this time Steinitz's. The Bc2 idea is quite common (I personally considered it even earlier in place of 10. Bb3), but apparently the pawn on d3 that Steinitz defended on move 17 was superfluous.
If any stronger friends can provide their thoughts, I'd be delighted.

Hey chessfuckers, I just developed a chess variant that AI can't ruin. It goes like this:
>regular chess but if you make a move that Stockfish thinks is a bad move, you get a second free move immediately afterwards. The second move must also be a move that Stockfish thinks is a bad move.

Keti, Anna-Maja, Dorina... there are plenty of lovely and smart girls; yes there are bad apples, but please don't generalize
>>
>>88097028
I find it a waste of time to study old games because you either lack the context or if you do have and get the context you must come to the dull conclusion that some of these games were simply not very good by virtue of both sides playing inaccurately and ultimately just applying the theories of that time that are since abandoned.

In short, it's overrated, unless you're some kind of romantic I guess. But we're not reading chess stories, or any story that's timeless. A bad game is going to stick out more and more against the decades of better games that followed.

Join a chess club. That helped me a lot. If you're playing slower games (slow enough you can keep a move sheet) the other people are happy to go over it with you after. They still will in blitz games but that'll be off of half remembered positions and less thorough.

Common mistake made by GMs doing these semi-educational videos is failure to mention seemingly obvious moves that are mistakes. They get in to positions where there are a couple ways to lose all advantage with natural looking moves and they just gloss over that.

I've lost many points to wifi failures at inopportune moments in blitz/bullet, it's the most tilting experience.
Also lost a rapid game due to a true internet outage. Despite the fact that I had a better position and plenty of time left when I reconnected, I was considered to have "abandoned" the game.
>>
>>88101790
There is a timer on disconnections for good reason. I'm glad lichess recently reduced theirs from 75 seconds down to around 30.

It should even be possible for them to set a desired rating, and then have the system automatically assign you overrated opponents until you sink to that level.

Evening cool math. Tonight I encountered the rare fellow strong (in shitter terms) player. This was dragon maroczy bind. I don't get this very often and I was rusty on the sharper variations so I just went for the mildly dubious early e5 plan. It turns in to a sort of inverse botvinnik english if you do that. Unfortunately a tempo down and either better for white or equal depending on if white knows the plan (it's not theory, 7...e5 is technically a mistake). White was out of book at this point and I equalized but couldn't break through. Equal endgame trade down and drawn king and pawn.

it's only shit against passive pussies who go for pawn walls then move their pieces around in 0.1 sec without any reason other than waste your time

i shouldnt even let pawn walls happen in the first place i suppose

whenever I play against passive fags I just switch over to do the same thing myself
usually they will carelessly make a bad move at some point which gives you an entry and now you have the advantage, which will make the stress and make more errors. Eventually you'll be a couple pieces up and even if you only have 10 seconds you can just push 3 different pawns and premove the mate

Chest is a full 100 points above Stjepan. Now factor in the squish and you see why I'm calling the Croat a shitter.
>well actually newborns don't know that there isn't a 1/1 relationship in rating ranges between FIDE and lichess, so I just verbally check mated you
I concede, you're too powerful.

black is up a pawn with better pieces, maybe the computer could hold a draw but it’s far from being a decidedly drawn position, black is definitely playing for a win

a 100 elo difference is not "squish" lol
you're trying to shoehorn your argument and it's funny
>I concede, you're too powerful.
ok thanks

I think neither of you understands what the other is trying to say and if you did you'd agree with each other.
2000 lichess is not 1200 FIDE, but lower than that the elos will start to see a gap that big. Above 2000 all ratings begin to converge, across FIDE chess.com and lichess (I assume what he means by "squish"). This doesn't dispute that 2000 lichess isn't 1200 FIDE, and in fact suppoets it
>>
I just play bots now since I get too mad playing real people (>muh elo). My enjoyment has skyrocketed and I'm no longer getting bootyblasted. Currently playing the ~1500 rated bots. Call me a coward, I don't care (because it's accurate).

>a 100 elo difference is not "squish"
Correct, that is never what I claimed. What I'm saying is that if we were to represent the 100 glicko-2 difference between Chest and Stjepan in FIDE Elo, it would be more than 100 due to the fact that certain lichess rating ranges are "squished" compared to equal strength ranges in FIDE Elo.
If that weren't so, I would be a 1700 FIDE. I'd probably give up a testicle to hit 1700 FIDE.

>Above 2000 all ratings begin to converge, across FIDE chess.com and lichess
shitter here, why is that?
>>
>>88110867
>2000 lichess is lower than 1200 fide
Can't wait for you chuds to start saying that you need 2200 lichess just to reach the minimum 1000 fide rating.
>>
>>88110897
so you're saying that 2000 lichess isn't 1200 fide?

I feel so fucking bad man, last month I was playing so well, climbing in Elo consistently. Suddenly I just hit a wall and my game has been total shit ever since. I don't even see how this is possible, all of a sudden I'm drawing and losing to 1300s after nearly hitting 1600 just a few weeks ago. How could I have gotten that much worse in such a short time? It's not like I fell and hit my fucking head or something.
>>
>>88110918
The higher the rating the less people there are. Once you reach a rarefied enough air there aren't enough players to inflate the rating and actual strength is better represented
>>
>>88110925
No, I'm saying that 2000 lichess is indeed 1200 elo. 1200-2000 fide elo is squished inside the ~2000-2400 lichess rapid range.

I've played more OTB boomers, the 1700 guy is just one who I play semi-regularly because we frequent the same café. I know it's difficult to accept, but 2000 lirapid really is trash.

he's right. recently, i've had:
>people rage resigning when blundering
>refunded rating (cheaters got caught)
>people playing openings that i've prepped against with very gay tricky lines
all of this is luck and not because i'm good. my rating this week went from 2183 to 2306. am i a 2300 player? no.

analyze your games.
you probably got sloppy.
might be being tired, might be a little plateau.

if it's basic mistakes, work them out.
if it's a frail plateau, study to get through it.
